Schist Goldcoal |

No worries! The knocked prone comes from his robe allowing him to piggy back his bloodline arcana power with his magic attacks. I'm prob phrasing that poorly.
And thanks for the reminder! Adding the extra die now.

Malorrem Dovar |

If that is the case then so long as I was at the door to open it then I should in a double move be able to get really close to one of the skum, right? Should I move me there? Also the wifi is very iffy in the new house so if I do not post in a timely manner please bot me.

GM Wicked |

I forgot to update between posts to include schist's magic missile. Although the red skin made its save to avoid being knocked "prone," it has taken 10 damage from the spell.

Malorrem Dovar |

My bad I meant to do so and forgot but the header thing is filled out now.

GM Wicked |

Thank you! Also Mal your BAB is +6 and you have Haste. You get 2 more swings :).

Malorrem Dovar |

I it that way because I had drawn a reach weapon and they got really close. I do not have quickdraw. Is it a free action to draw something from my efficient quiver?

GM Wicked |

Oh sorry I totally spaced on that point, was just looking at your dice.

Malorrem Dovar |

I will happily hit them more if you want :D also next round I am hoping I get the full attack benefit with haste. It so rarely works out that I get that.

GM Wicked |

Should it take an opposed Charisma check to make it attack, though? Fighting's something it would ordinarily be inclined to do, and it considers me a friend, so it seems to me like it should just be the ordinary Handle Animal DCs.
Good question, and a couple points. I'm pulling the opposed charisma check not from handle animal, but from charm monster, the spell you're using. While "fighting" is something it would ordinarily do, you're asking the tylosaurus to "not fight" Dima and Magne, something which I feel it is very inclined to do this moment. There's one other thing to consider as well:
And so, in future encounters I might be more lenient on implementing an opposed Cha check, I'm inclined to say it should apply here. Perhaps we can negotiate application of the check without the +5 bonus? Thoughts?
Also, Tuesdays are my longest day, so I may not update until tomorrow.

Kwesi Akerele |

Spoiler changes things - I'm good with the opposed check and the +5 bonus to it, since
Sound fair and able to be consistently applied in case it comes up again? Even "less likely to attack me and a chance of keeping it from attacking others" is worth the SLA for me.

GM Wicked |

I want to wait and give kwesi a chance to post, since being mind controlled is sort of a rare "opportunity" :). I'll bot her late tonight if needed.

Kwesi Akerele |

Sorry, Wednesdays are my IRL Pathfinder days as well as my long work days, so they're harder for me to post during. But we didn't TPK in Wrath of the Righteous! :D Getting a post put together now. Between grading...and some grading...tours with newbies...and more grading. Also grading.

"Dima" Dimaratis |

As cool as Magne is, I just realized that my HeroLab was incorrectly calculating his primary bite attack as x1.5 Str (& x1.5 Power Attack) dmg as if he didn't have a secondary tail slap attack (which I think is because the 1st-3rd lvl gator when small just had a bite attack). Corrected the profile for normal Str & PA damage, and he'll be correct here in Round 4.

Malorrem Dovar |

Your babbling was adorable and I love that song! Not to keen on being down to to players, a companion, and a summon but meh. Good writing is still enjoyable.
On a completely unrelated note. I have a session to run this weekend and responsible GM that I am I did not prep much. Packing has eaten much of my free time and they understand that, I have a wonderful group. Everyone wants to get back into combat since there has been not fighting for around the last ten sessions since they went the peaceful route. They have to travel though plains and farm land for about three days. Any thoughts I things I can do to them?

Shearwater |

Hey, don't you diss Sharky! He's pulling his weight just fine. :P
Well, at least I hope that last attack was a hit...
I can't really make recommendations for encounters without knowing more about your setting. Random encounters, maybe? Or giant slugs! Assuming the group has a tendency of nonviolently subverting combat encounters, throwing in something they can't reason with should do the trick.

Schist Goldcoal |

Ack! Paralyzed! DM, can I use my seaborn/aquatic bloodline power of water blast while in this condition since it doesn't list any V/S/etc requirements? And do I roll to resist again this round or the next?

GM Wicked |

Schist, I think yes, you should be able to use it. You can roll to resist this round, but I believe it's a full round action, so you'll need to pick one.

Shearwater |

Unless that is a house rule, I don't think he can:
"It is aware and breathes normally but cannot take any actions, even speech."
The only thing you can do is attempt a new save as a full-round action.

GM Wicked |

The ability comes from the paralysis description, which allows for "purely mental actions." I also found this thread and agree with certain interpretations.
Mal, try Donjon's random encounter generators for ideas on random stuff.

Shearwater |

Specific beats general, right? The spell description is pretty explicit in that you can't take any actions (in addition to the normal effects of the paralysis), which to me includes purely mental ones as well. Also, hold person is a mind-affecting compulsion effect, not just physical paralysis. Why wouldn't it stop you from using magic?
Of course, you're free to rule as you see fit, but that's how I see it.

GM Wicked |

Hmmm your arguments are convincing. I don't have much to say against them, so I should agree.
Schist, since I already ruled, you can use the SLA for this next round. Going forward, paralysis will prevent use of SLAs. Cool?

Schist Goldcoal |

DM, did you include my +3 bonus to Will Saves that comes from my natural dwarven hardiness and my trait, Glory of Old? My total Will Save vs spells should be +12.
Also, how many wizards are still visible? The full 7?

GM Wicked |

Schist: actually, no I did not! I believe I included that bonus in my draft, but must have forgotten to include it in my final submission. That was my fault. Since you've already resolved the effect, we'll just move on and I'll try to do better next time.
And yes, there are still seven mages swimming around.

GM Wicked |

Could we say that he gets another action this round, and that the hold was cosmetic as such for all intents and purposes?
Yes, proceed to kick ass.

Malorrem Dovar |

Hey, don't you diss Sharky! He's pulling his weight just fine. :P
Well, at least I hope that last attack was a hit...
I am not dissing Sharky. Mal was busy with the other group and not paying attenion to the things going on below him so he is not certain the shark is on his side. The skum is just more important.
I can't really make recommendations for encounters without knowing more about your setting. Random encounters, maybe? Or giant slugs! Assuming the group has a tendency of nonviolently subverting combat encounters, throwing in something they can't reason with should do the trick.
As to the setting. They are currently in Andoran. The group normally prefers violence but for the plot they went the peaceful route. I have three vets who have been playing for many more years than I have then there are three newbies. Something that cannot be reasoned with would be good though. Once they make it to the forest many of the baddies can be reasoned with. And I have one player they should be bothered by the giant slug if I play up the slimy factor :)
@GM Wicked! I forgot about that wonderful website. Thank you!

Kwesi Akerele |

Seconding random encounter generators - quite useful. :) If the generator doesn't quite do it for you, there's a list on d20pfsrd.com of bestiary entries by environment - that lets you see a lot of different possibilities at once, and you can pick and choose from there. (It's how I did a lot of my random encounters for Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale.)
Probably my new favorite random encounter is the chimaera I threw into Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale - the Hover feat especially is a neat way to up difficulty that I haven't seen used much. Animals (and to some extent magical beasts) in general are a good way to make an encounter they can't get through non-violently unless they've got wild empathy or really good kitty treats.

Malorrem Dovar |

The druid likes to muck those things up. Dirty druids! I have never had a chance to sun a chimaera so I will look into that one.

GM Wicked |

Haha, a true commitment to roleplay, Dima! I can't help but think of the babbling avatars in The Sims when they talk to each other.

"Dima" Dimaratis |

Haha, a true commitment to roleplay, Dima! I can't help but think of the babbling avatars in The Sims when they talk to each other.
Hehe, well I was trying to think on how to do it this morning, and so it ended up being an excerpt of latin translated by a fantasy language translator (chaoticshiny.com). So if that's not gibberish I don't know what is :)

Malorrem Dovar |

I certainly liked the babbling :D

GM Wicked |

Need actions from kwesi and shear for an update!

Malorrem Dovar |

I am trying! You are drunk ;)
Also my players last night managed to surprise me. Ended up going with ankheg's attacking a small group of farmers. The group skinned the ankheg's and gave the farmers the carapace to sell. Then after they ate with the farmers families they spent that evening and the next day burning all their spells to put wall of stone in various places in the fields and around the houses as safe places. Now I have to get a nest set up. Ankheg's are really fun critters too! Also the wizards opening move in the fight was to lay a wall of stone down as a safe place for the farmers during the fight. They are such nice people :D

Kwesi Akerele |

I totally thought I had updated already! My bad! D: I'll have a post up in the next little bit (coming to you from atop my washing machine, which has to babysat through the drain cycle because our plumbing is terrible).

GM Wicked |

Sounds like the movie Tremors, Mal ;)
One of my favorites movies!
coming to you from atop my washing machine
How appropriate!
Edit: Off to dinner, hopefully I'll find time to update before falling into bed...

Malorrem Dovar |

The player that is the wizard called them graboids. I was considering other critters until I saw the potential Tremors references. The nest will give me more chances for that too. I wish I owned the movie so I could pirate ideas! Sadly I did not have the chance for the slamming into a rock but if I play my cards right I may be able to get the scene with the people crawling around on shelves. I will need more than four baddies though.

GM Wicked |

There are still two images surrounding the mage. I rolled the max number :(.

Malorrem Dovar |

Best low level buff spell! We are rolling horribly to hit him. Don't be sad this is a good thing. Most fights are over quicker than this. I do not think I have seen a single NPC last this long in a fight due to one damn spell.

Kwesi Akerele |

I think I've actually seen the full eight images plus caster (a PC) before - and then he proceeded to get attacked precisely zero while the spell was active. :p It's a hell of a spell - Kuurung'd be daft not to use it like he did.

Malorrem Dovar |

My GM for S&S had us fight some snake people who had it as a spell like ability. So over a dozen of these critters with good ac for our meager level of four and they all had between three to six images. That little dungeon took forever! He is the second most brutal GM I have ever had.

GM Wicked |

Loot spreadsheet updated for Kuurung and his henchman. I'm not concerned about spellcraft/appraise checks, as it's way faster to just present the loot to you this way. What we lose in realism we make up for in time.
Also, valuing spellbooks, yeeeesh. I found a calculator online, so I assumed they sell for half value like typical gear. Anyone have experience or advice there?

Schist Goldcoal |

If all our combats are going to be as exciting as this one was, we're in for a wild ride ;)
And alas! All this fine wizarding loot and Schist can make use of so little of it. Not the headband, nor the pearl, nor even the book of spells. Ah well. Anyone mind if I grab the wand of lightning bolt, though?
I don't have a Ring of Protection, but don't expect first dibs on it either. If someone with a +1 ring ends up taking it so as to upgrade, I wouldn't mind their hand-me-downs, however ;)

"Dima" Dimaratis |

HaHA! We laugh at more intelligence...uh...and things!
I think the Wand of Lightning Bolt is a good Schist pickup. Dima is fond of his own Ring of Protection for now...maybe that's a good pickup for our resident rager perhaps?

Malorrem Dovar |

The only thing I would want is the ring since more AC is good but I understand lots of people wanting more AC. The wand seems like a good option for you. I would be more likely to hurt myself with it :D
