Toxim ir' Kinain |
Daurros:
Wow, those things are nasty. All that damage, especially after that one took 12 points of strength penalty! Also, with 6 folks who need it, can we provide three endure elements per day? Or does that eat up all of Toxim's spell slots?
I can only give up two slots, one for me and one for another. That leaves me two slots to play with, one transmutation slot and one other.
Guard |
While Snem keeps blasting at the large cat 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6, Guard steps up to the creature, swinging his hammer from the other direction, taking in the movement into the swing: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Ardanto Valanto |
Seeker and Daurros:
From the rule book.
Spells and Critical Hits: A spell that requires an attack roll can score a critical hit. A spell attack that requires no attack roll cannot score a critical hit. If a spell causes ability damage or drain (see Special Abilities), the damage or drain is doubled on a critical hit.
So in this case ray of enfeeblement can score a critical. I only know because it came up in my game last night and I ruled wrong on the fly, as this is a change from 3.5.
Removes rules lawyer hat.
Ardanto starts whirling his weapons around like an angry buzz saw, trying to rend the cat into chunks, "Raarrrrrggghhh!" he yells, attempting to get it to face him.
Longsword +8 (1d8+8 19-20) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Longsword +8 (1d8+8 19-20) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 111d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Critical confirmation:
Longsword +8 (1d8+8 19-20) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 141d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
Snem blasts at the tiger that has Thoven as Daurros launch three arcane bolts into the same animal. Karkalla runs forward striking the tiger with her bow's blade as Guard brings his hammer down upon the beast.
At the front of the line The Finn's jab at the tiger with a series of blows landing two as Ardanto and Toxim working together drop the cat with a series of strikes
The last cat, seemly hurt drops Thoven as it withdrawals into the jungle.
Ok 1 cat down..not dead but down another one fleeing..anyone want to chase it? Anything else?
Guard |
Guard looks after the fleeing cat, lowering his hammer. He won't be able to catch it anyway.
At Urols question he silently shakes his head, answering with a hard voice: "I doubt we are able to do that. For one, we don't have the space on the ship. Secondly, I don't think we have the means to contain that thing on the ship. The sailors will not want to have it aboard too. And lastly I think we can't feed the cat good enough."
The warforged glowers at the gnome shortly, continuing: "How long will that thing be unconscious, approximately?"
Daurros Erdai |
Daurros clears his throat, and looks to Urol. "Correct me if I am wrong, my naturalist friend, but wouldn't leaving it here unconscious be somewhat cruel? It is wounded and bleeding. The scent of blood will likely draw many scavengers, especially in an environment like this. It is quite doomed to die; should we not end it's suffering? Better a quick death than being eatne alive by other, nastier creatures."
Daurros thinks a moment longer, and adds, "And shouldn't we move the carcass off of our path? Whatever it attracts may well be here still when we return."
Daurros Erdai |
Daurros looks at his friend incredulously. "Heal it? Use up our resources on a beast that tried to kill us? You're madder than usual today, my friend! I am most assuredly against that. If no one else wishes to kill the beast, I will."
Daurros unsheathes his rapier, and moves toward the animal to dispatch it.
Ardanto Valanto |
"It probably only wanted to kill one of us to eat, maybe we should of brought Avner along after all." Ardanto adds. He turns his back as Daurros approaches the helpless beast. "I told you killing the canaries would escalate," he mutters but also makes no effort to stop the slaughter.

"Hmm. Perhaps so." Yet Daurros seems bothered not at all, and finishes off the creature.
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
Urol sighs as Daurros finished off the cat, Thoven calls upon the gift of the silver flame to heal the party and Guard, Finn and Ardanto drag the dead animal a bit ways off of the trail. The Gnome seems to be collecting plant samples and one the group gets back, Happily checks his map before leading off down the overgrown trail

Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
Your trek though the humid jungle goes without farther issue, and after almost another hour of fighting insects and the humidity the jungle parts to reveal the ruins of a large chamber, once held within the root of the ziggurat above but now open to the elements. Images of pouncing an d stalking cats grace what is left of the vine-strangled walls. Dozens of fungus covered jungle-cats statues lie scattered around the edge
of the exposed chamber. along with several strangely unweathered statues of men dressed in armor. Of the five passageways that once led further into the ziggurat's depths. only two remain uncollapsed.
If I have anyone in the wrong order let me know
Guard |
Seeing the statues remends Guard of the threat of the creature that turns people to stone. He moves up foreward, in hopes of his previous thoughts to come true and, should they encounter that monster, him not being turned to stone.
Looking back at the others for them to be ready and have their preperations made, he starts walking towards the broader entry.
"Can anyone help them?" he asks over his shoulder, without looking back, but staring towards the passageways.
Toxim ir' Kinain |
Toxim slides over to Finn and whispers,
"Could you get hold of Urol to keep him from running in and getting himself stoned? I'll back up Guard."
Toxim then moves to provide cover fire for Guard, staying at least 15' back and off to a side.

Finn |
"Master Urol, I hope you will stay close behind me. I would be fascinated to hear what you have to say about the local flora and fauna. For instance, this petrified cat -- what species would you say it is?"
While Urol responds, Finn carefully examines the ground in front of him; ruined temples are famous for their traps and snares for the uninvited...]
He also keeps his ears attuned to any sounds of life from within.
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 = 25
Finn renews his Mage Armor spell, if necessary.

Magical beasts, I think. Need Knowledge arcana. Maybe Seeker can fill us in, since Daurros' last roll about them was pretty good ...

Ardanto Valanto |
Gulp, Mr Basilisk gets to go after Karkella, lets prey for a natural 20, King Harold, arrow through the eye!
Ardanto shivers nervously, terror grips his soul as he hears Daurros's shout his warning an a blast of heat washes over him, accompanied by the roar of the fireball spell. "What can you see Guard?" he asks, gripping his one sword tightly, his left hand holding the warforgeds shoulder.
I need to delay, until Guard moves and move with him.
Guard |
"Keep your eyes on my feet! It's coming." Guard states with cold determination.
The basilisk is too far away for Snem to be able to attack, so the little blue ball hovers over the warforged's shoulder, readying a soul blast, should the monster get close enough.
ready attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Have to wait for the basilisk to make it's turn
