Male Halfling Warlock / 1

Hey all, got my account set up and will try to get the toon ready over my holiday break.

Hey all, this is Annette. I am posting as me (Deedo is the screen name) just t check this out. I will post in a second as my character.

Ooh, let me try my hand at the dice thing as well...

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Female Revenant Assassin 2

Okay, so Deedo is not allowed to roll my damage dice...

This is Annette again and my character, Katsuye - Revenant Assassin.

My page is filled out if you want to check it out. I have a few things to tweak but it is mostly ready. I am still going to write up the Warlock in case the DM decides to let a dragon eat me during the first series. ;o)

It's not my fault you keep making tasty characters!

Nice character sheet :)
There are a couple of notes that need to be taken care of (I'm just jotting these down so we/I/you don't forget) :
- lockpicks: you paid for them, they're in your skills, but not on your inventory
- attack bonuses: a few of your attack powers have the "weapon" keyword and so you get the proficiency bonus (+2 for a Khopesh, I think) -- we'll have to add that in.
- I had another one... I just can't remember.

Nice work. At first I was unsure of your assassin character, but I like it now. Looks like it will be fun to play.

Keep in mind two things:
1) The assassin class is not the most widely liked by the npcs in town (have a good cover-story), your power source is clearly NOT a good thing (drawing on the shadow powers is generally considered bad) -- people that fight you may be able to figure that out (a good arcane/religion check), so be prepared for that possibility. We can work out back stories with the group so they don't freak out when they see your work... but be aware that assassin powers are clearly Shadow-Spells (marking them as bad mojo to most).

2) Revenants are undead. They too are not widely appreciated. You will need a good disguise (which you could do) and a good cover story here. You will be met with a mixture of dread, suspicition, and fear when people find you've been brought back from the dead by dark-powers. I noticed that you gave no alignment -- you don't have to be evil just b/c people will assume you are; and the Raven Queen herself is not evil, she's just the goddess of death (unaligned), so you have a ton to choose from.

Male Changeling Artificer

I have aded my Stats and backstory to my Character..let me know what you guys think!

Male Halfling Level 1 Knight

OK -- I went with the Knight in the end, because it was a bit easier getting his info in :) He should actually be fun -- though I may swap out later if the Essentials feels a bit to simplistic, especially if we keep this going long enough to hit a few new levels. (And yes, I will change the image at some point. It just seemed to suit the little guy....)

Just testing to see if I can post from my Droid. Looks like I can!

Male Human Level 1 Battlemind

My Battlemind! Sean told me a quick way of getting his powers in. I've rushed it a bit -- hoping I've got everything there! I will run him after all. Sorry, Bear.

Whoohoo! You made it. I liked both ideas, but I'm really excited to see the battlemind in action -- looks like a good choice. I noticed you picked up the Multiclass Ardent for extra healing, always a nice pick -- plus it gives you one more trained skill. Love the backstory.

When you get a chance (it will help both of us out), try adding some bold to your character sheet and/or spoiler blocks. If you've never used messageboard markups it's a fast learn:

If you replace the ()'s with []'s you get:
(b)word(/b) = word
(i)word(/i) = word

Same with spoiler text:
(spoiler=Bolded Title)Stuff in the box to hide/show(/spoiler) =

Bolded Title:
Stuff in the box to hide/show

It will really clean up your character sheet and make everything easy to find.

There's a line early on in your character write-up:

Rive's Sheet wrote:

Battlemind Features:

To attack with powers: +9 vs. AC/1d8+5 Damage

Does that mean, any normal class attack power is +9 vs AC and does 1d8+5 dam?

I like that you prefigured it! I find it a big help with my online guy. (Ps, that's a huge attack bonus, nicely done!)

Aurr, what rituals do you know?
Is the Artificer like the Bard in that it gets to cast certain rituals for free each day?
Did you want to replace the ritual feat with the alchemists feat? I don't know if it would fit your concept better...

Nah I would like to Delve into the Rituals stuff anyways. Here are the ones that showed up on the New Character Generator when I created the artificer:

<<Rituals>>
Brew Potion
Disenchant Magic item
Enchant Magic item
Make whole (for repairing warforged!)

Cool... I just looked it up on the DDI. It says you also get to cast the Disenchant Ritual for free... that's nice.

Male Changeling Artificer

Love everyone's backstory so far! I am curious to see how we will all mesh to be the "Ultimate Adventurers!".

I just got word from our Invoker friend, it sounds like he will be up and running soon-ish.

YAY!

PS. I've found a way to add bullets to your posts/character sheets, and also how to indent a tab space

Change all () into []

(*)stuff, makes it look like:

    And:
    (list)stuff
    more stuff
    and even more stuff (/list)

    Gives you,

You can see them in use on my character sheet... check it out here

  • Some questions/thoughts for you and your character::

    - How might your characters know each other?

    - What was your role in the last war -- The Last War was a huge world changing event that touched nearly everyone (it is now about 4 years since that war).

    - What would draw you to working as a merc?

    - What would draw you to House Tharashk?

    - What are your current and longrange goals? (money, fame, revenge, exploration, achievement points, reputation with the Fallen Titans, find the Isla de Muerta and return the lost Aztec Gold...???)

    Male Changeling Artificer

    Hey Guys!

My character Aurr, is a pretty good natured fellow and would team up with anyone as long as they were not implicitly tied with House Cannith or is not an evil village/raiding/murderous type.

As for suggestions for other characeters

Aurr would defintely feel some kinship for the Revenant/asaasin Katsuye because of their common goal of finding out what really happened to their lives. The only diffrence is Aurr remebers much of his life. Maybe Aurr offered his services to help finding out more about Katsuye life in exchange for her skills as an assasin???

As for Rive, I see Aurr wandering into trouble with a local establishment(Most likley assocatied with House cannith in some way or even some soldeirs that claimed to have raized a village during their time in the war) and Maybe Rive came to help him out???

As for the Deva Invoker, as a direct channel to the Sovereigh Host(the good Gods!), aurr would be facinated by such a person because of all the hardships he had to endure. He would ask such difficult theoligical questions such as "Why do the gods let these things happen?" or "If you are an angel how comes no wings???"

As for the Halfling warlock, maybe he can relate to the "trading your soul for more power" thing that warlocks have to do. Not sure yet...waiting to see Dave's decription/backstory

He would try to associate with House Tharasak for a few reasons:

-A dragonmarked member of this house could find his kidnapped warforged "father" but such a specfific case require large amounts of gold. (espially for a warforged). Working for them would not only help pay for that cost but it would also help get closer to the inner workings of this house and hopefully make a trustworthy contact that can help locate his "Father" without necessarily paying them large amounts of gold.

-The mission involves House Cannith is some unspecified way. Aurr would be interested in any mision invovlving them as an oppurtunity to learn about them and hopefully gather information about the warforged roles in the Last war.

During the Last War, Aurr lost his parents and was on the run during most of that time. He moved around mostly trying to avoid fights (sometimes unsuccesfuly) with the help of his warforged "father". I imagined them as refugees moving from city to city trying to avoid the war but failing in that respect but always have each other. Excpet when the war ended of course. That was the day His warforged father was kidnapped. Aurr has been honing his skills and trying to find out more about House Cannith and trying to locate the warforged "Cutter" as well as the commander of the the warforged army that sent them to destroy his village.

    In short Long-range goals are:

-Locate his warforged "dad" called Cutter
-This ties in to current goal of "get more money to help find him."

-Find out who ordered the razing of his village and why? (his warforged father never told him...)

Excellent stuff Aurr! ... still reading through it all and developing ideas.

    One question came to mind:
Most Changelings don't walk around in changeling form for fear of being hunted down... do you have a primary face/race you keep on? Do you change frequently? Do your friends in the party know your true face... I imagine they would all be pretty forgiving of a changeling (come on, if an undead/reborn can't look past a little doppleganger blood, what's the world coming to! lol)

Oh yeah! Didn't think about that...

Aurr would most likely by in random male human form most of the time. He probably would change a whole lot. He would of shared his changeling heritage with the whole group I believe. He might have trouble holding his face when killing someone related to his past. Unless someone has an element in their backstory that would clash with it i don't see a reason for him to hide his origins from the group.

    Male Changeling Artificer

I humbly request some backstory on the "Fallen Titans" reputation thing. I know that is the name of our guild in WOW but I don't know how they fit in the Eberron world and Sean's campaign. Thanks!

hahaha. That's all it was, a reference to WoW (so was the achievement reference, lol). The last one was a Pirates of the Carribean reference...

But I like the name Fallen Titans... I may have to work them into the campaign now

Maybe we can do a shared campaign element where the Fallen Titans are a Shadowy power hungry organsation with varied evil members. I will use them in my campaign as well and we can have a small connection between the two!

I think Rogziel sounds like a paricualry evil person! Don't you guys?

    Aurr, Artificier wrote:

Considering "Rogziel" is the name of one of the 7 Angels of Punishment (translated "Wrath of God"), I'm not sure what his alignment would be... He might not be a "bad guy", but he's certainly a "bad @$$ guy" :)

And you're right we may have to work out some sort of shared backgound on the "Fallen Titans" in our campaigns.

RE:1)I figured that being an assassin wasn't something you advertised but I hadn't considered how her powers might look to others. Good thought. Katsuye has a decent intimidate but most of her skills are focused on hiding the truth. I think of her as a deadly street urchin...she uses what she has to survive. She would be unapologetic about her abilities and either threatening or misdirecting depending on what she thinks will work best.

RE:2)I added something to her description. It isn't really a disguise, but I could really think of a way to hide her eyes which are the easiest giveaway that she is different. I gave her a hooded cloak. Maybe a bit cheesy but she's going to draw some attention and this makes her more mysterious rather than frightening (I think). I am open to other suggestions. I also updated my char page since The Raven Queen does not exist here. I left Katsuye unaligned for a few reasons. It isn't so much that I plan on going evil and want to be sneaky about it, but that she doesn't really know what to call herself.

Good fix on the Raven Queen. Yeah, she's not in Eberron. I like the use of the Blood of Vol, though. Remember for many worshippers of the BoV, it's not an evil religion. The countless people at the front of the church think of it as a way to replicate the immortality that the Aerenal Elves have achieved (see later) -- it's where the religion sprang from. There are many good and noble worshippers of the BoV. Of course, there is a TON of back story behind the church and solid history/religion roll will tell you more.

AND I'm not sure why I didn't think of this before... Being a revenant might not be too bad.
There are people that like undead.

  • Karrnath. One of the original Five Kingdoms (a major power player) They use undead as servants and warriors. Karrnathi skeletons and zombies are very common (and stronger than the norm) You would certainly be a special type of undead and might be met with awe and respect... others (mostly nobles) might treat you still like a servant. But there won't be rampant fear at the sight of you. Heck, there are probably a few revenants wandering Karrnath for various reasons.

  • Aerenal. The Elven island-continent to the SE of your continent. They raise thier dead elders to serve as mummy/lich-like God-Kings and Councilors, collectively call the Undying Court. They are generally considered to be immortal and VERY powerful (known as "deathless" rather than "undead"). Revenants would be close to that, so some aereni elves may look at you as a novelty, others as an abomination/mockery because you were not raised by thier magic ... guess it depends on the elf. It also doesn't help that your Human -- most might not look to kindly on you for that.

Sooooo ... outside of those two places you could use that information to pass through town. Most brelanders or dromites might just think you're a regular karnathi and think nothing more. You might be able to convince a non-elf that you're a human emissary from the Undying Court. 'Course, they might think you're a spy for Karrnath or a stranger from a strange land, but at least they won't think of you as the walking dead spat out form hell itself to reap destruction on their very souls... unless you want them to think that :)

Looks like everyone is set to go! I see Scott updated his dude! Anything else you need from us to get started? Is Dave all set to go?

    Whoohoo

The game thread is up and ready to go!!

Follow this link and lets get "rolling" :)

We're missing Dave (and maybe Frank) still, but I'll get ahold of them and work them in as we go. We can start with 4 players.

    Male Halfling Warlock / 1

    hey all,

talked with Sean tonight and working on getting all set up. I should be up and running real soon and looking forward to it.

    Male Deva Invoker

    1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

    Atreos is searching for someithing.

Never mind me. I'm just trying to figure out these commands.

Just making sure everyone caught the note. This fight is almost over (you're down to a couple of bloodied artificers and 1 warrior and it looks like you have the fight now in hand). When it's over you will probably have enough xp to level up to 2nd level. So. Start thinking about it :)

You'll also (most likely) be able to get in a good long rest too!
unless some evil DM pushes you to keep going... AND takes your spellbook from you -- who would do such a thing!

    LOOT!

The majority of this comes from the fight at the chasm, but some of this is from the main chamber (evenly split between you and the other two groups):

Your group gets to divide up:
    Total Gold: 275gp
    Total Residuum: 235gp

The following items come from the chasm fight. You get to keep all of them, decide who should get what...

1 Ritual/Spell Book with Comprehend Language, Silence, and Spirit Fetch.

    3 scrolls

    • Enchant Magic Item (will create any non-rare magic item upto level 3 -- you still need to pay the ritual cost)
    • Create Campsite
    • Unseen Servant (the scroll is the 25gp focus)
(there were two used scrolls as well, it looks like one to make camp and one used to make the sandals... those scrolls are useless now)

    +1 magic scale
+1 magic leather, Rat Killer's Coat (resist 5 vs swarms).
    +1 amulet of protection (+1 to Ref/Fort/Will)
+1 cloak of fortitude (+1 to Fort ONLY)
    Feyleaf Sandals
+1 Ki focus (a small khyber dragonshard braclet, midnight blue color)
Cannith Bolts: 6 Immobilize Bolts, 9 Shock Bolts, 7 Flame Bolts.
    A Cannith Fabricator's Schema

The following items came from the fight in the main chamber. There were six magic items, that 2 items for EACH group. The other NPC groups are willing to take the leftovers of whatever your group doesn't want...

    • Leather +1
    • A magic gem (radiates evocation magic) - it was attached to the lead warrior's weapon and will make any weapon magic
    • The lead artificer's implement (+1 and grants an extra daily healing infusion)
    • A +1 amulet of protection (+1 to REF/FORT/WILL)
    • A magic gem (radiates abjuration magic) - it was attached to the lead warrior's armor and will make any armor magic
    • A scroll of item creation (up to level 5)

As a group, you need to pick a total of TWO ITEMS from this list and decide who gets them (the other four items will go to the other teams)

Finally, there's another ritual book from the lead artificer in the main chamber.
Vendis would like to study this ritual book first. Since you guys need to sleep, he wants to use the time to learn new rituals... seems like a good use of time if no one objects.

    Some explanations:

    Ritual Books:

Everyone can study a ritual book, as long as they have the Ritual Caster Feat and meet the minimum level requirement. It takes 8 hours to master a ritual from soemone else's book, and you MUST BE at least the same level as the ritual you are mastering.
Then you can copy that ritual into your own book and you now have a new ritual. You can have as many rituals as you want.
It doesn't destroy the book to master a ritual from it, so all of you could theoretically EACH master the same ritual from the same ritual book.
    OR
After you have mastered the ritual, you can just keep the extra book, and cast the ritual from there... you're welcome to have as many ritual books as you want, just remember which rituals are in which books!

    Scrolls:

    Scrolls are prerecorded condensed rituals.
ANYONE can use scrolls. You don't need the Ritual Caster Feat and you don't need any level requirements, if you find a level 30 ritual scroll, you can cast it!
BUT you cannot copy a scroll into your ritual book regardless of your level. They're not complete rituals, so you cannot master a ritual from a scroll.
These are 1 use items. The ritual takes 1/2 the time, but you still must spend ALL the material component costs.

    Cannith Bolts:

These magically enhanced bolts glow with inner power and shimmer in the light.
Property: When using a Cannith Bolt with any ranged attack power, you gain a +1 to hit and +1 to damage.
Effect: These bolts can be fired with any ranged attack power (including a ranged basic attack). If the power specifies a set damage, these bolts add their effects to the results of the power (similar effects do not stack). If the power specifies [W] damage, use the normal crossbow damage they are fired from. If the power does not do damage, then these bolts ONLY add their effect, they do not add extra damage.

    Example:
If a power speficies 1d6 damage + stun (for one turn) and you use an immobilize bolt, the damage is still 1d6, the target is still stunned, but the target is ALSO immobilized. If it is just a ranged attack power that normally does [W]+Dex, now it's [W]+Dex+Immobilize.

Three main types you have encountered:
*Immobilize Bolts: target is Immobilized (save ends)
*Shock Bolts: target takes a -2 to hit (save ends)
*Flame Bolts: target takes 2 ongoing fire damage (save ends)

    Cannith Fabricator's Schema:

This is a small palm sized cicular disk, almost an inch thick made out of silver and gold. The bottom is smooth with small nobs for feet so it can be set on the ground or a desk, while the top has several magical runes carved into and raised up out of its surface, plus a small red eberron dragonshard the size of your thumbnail is mounted at its center. The edges of the disk look to be somewhat puzzle-piece shaped and it looks like it could lock into place with several other similar Schema.
When used as part of a ritual, the dragonshard glows with energy that the runes focus and infuse into your ritual.

Property: All rituals cast with the schema grant a +2 on the appropriate skill check for the ritual.
Daily power: Free action if used during a ritual
Effect: The schema replaces some or all of the residuum for a ritual. Make an unassisted arcana check with a -5 penalty. Multiply the results by your character level, and you get that much residuum (free) to use for the ritual (up to a max of 100gp worth). This is not actual residuum, so it cannot be traded or stored for later use.

Example: If a level 2 character uses the schema in a ritual and gets on a 17 on thier Arcana Check (with penalty), the schema counts for 34gp in residuum. Extra residuum is wasted, and any remaining costs need to be paid by the caster. The schema is NOT used up in the process.

    Male Halfling Warlock / 2

Cog has low AC and wears leather so one of the +1 leather would be awesome for him. He can use a split of the residuum and is a ritual caster so he would be interested in the books or access to copy rituals from them. Those would be my top choices.

    Female Revenant Assassin 2

Current Group Loot - only sharing within our little band

    • 130gp (25 each person with 5 in our communal bank)
    • 100 residuum
    • +1 leather (Katsuye is wearing)
    • a vial of one strange ironroot (we used the second one)
    • a pouch with a Karrnath Emblem on it
    • a House Cannith signet ring--(History Check)
    • a bundle of papers (journal entries, rituals, scrolls)
Rituals: Animal Messenger and Tenser's Floating Disk.
Scrolls: 2 scrolls of Water Walking

Several partial rituals, we can try to study them for fun, or if we had a full library at our disposal we may be able to reproduce them... they're worth keeping for a future time.

    Ring:
The ring is clearly a signet ring of House Cannith (we easily make out the metal gorgon's head). Generally worn by someone of importance. But the design and styling is odd/off... You would guess that this particular design is several hundred years old (not used anymore), but the ring itself doesn't appear to be that old (based on the wear and tear of the the object, you'd guess it no more than a few decades at most) -- (PS. it is non-magical and could be sold for some coin if we wish.)

    Papers:
The papers are pages from someone's ritual book (you can tell from the quality of the paper and ink). It appears that the book also had some journal entries (which means they must be important if the author would waste space in a valuable ritual book). The journal entries will take some time to decipher -- they're in some shorthand and sloppy penmanship (during your next extended rest, you'll be able to make an intelligence check).

    Female Revenant Assassin 2

    Cog, good idea.
Rive, could you use the scale?
    What would the casters prefer?

I already took leather from the first fight so I am set.

    Male Halfling Warlock / 2

I'm going to assume that the lack of response from Rive, Atreos and Aurr means they are conceding their share of the loot and Kat and I should just split it 50/50!

    ROFL!!!

    Male Halfling Warlock / 2

Have you heard from Aurr and Atreos lately, they haven't posted for a month and a half? Hope they're ok and just busy.

    Male Changeling Artificer

I would like to Bid for the lead artificer implement. I think that it would be beneficial to the party for me to have it! (+1 healing infusions!)

    Female Revenant Assassin 2

This is my suggestion for assigning gear and if everyone agrees we can divvy and get back to the game:

    Aurr -
    1. The lead artificer's implement (+1 and grants an extra daily healing infusion)
    2. +1 amulet of protection (+1 to Ref/Fort/Will)
    3. all of the special bolts (look through the messages above...there are a lot of them)

    Cog -
    1. +1 magic leather, Rat Killer's Coat (resist 5 vs swarms).
    2. +1 cloak of fortitude (+1 to Fort ONLY)

    Rive -
    1. +1 magic scale
    2. A scroll of item creation (up to level 5)...weapon...hint, hint

I already took +1 Leather and will snag the +1 Ki Focus.

Anyone can take the sandals (I will take it if noone wants them - they save you when falling) and I think that only Cog and Aurr use rituals so you should decide who gets the scrolls, residuum and schema as well as reading the rules above about using the books.

If you all agree, "take" your items and I will condence the party list down to something more manageable. I can also stack all of the ritual stuff to be divided later if you'd like.

    Male Halfling Warlock / 2

I agree to those options. We can leave the ritual items bundled, there is nothing I can use in combat so we can leave it bundled until we get back to town where Aurr and I can study the rituals properly. Anything he wants right away he is welcome to.

    Male Changeling Artificer

I also agree with those options!

    Female Revenant Assassin 2

I will email Rive and tell him to go ahead and update his sheet and join us on the playing side. I am going to only keep track of group loot. Anything we already handed out is now to be tracked on your personal sheet (so we don't end up with duplicates.

    GROUP LOOT
    405gp, 335 residuum
1 Ritual/Spell Book with Comprehend Language, Silence, and Spirit Fetch.
1 Ritual Book from the lead artificer in the main chamber.
    1 Cannith Fabricator's Schema
1 vial of one strange ironroot (we used the other one)
1 pouch with a Karrnath Emblem on it
1 House Cannith signet ring--(History Check)
1 bundle of papers (journal entries, rituals, scrolls)

    Scrolls
    1. Enchant Magic Item (will create any non-rare magic item up to level 3 -- you still need to pay the ritual cost)
    2. Create Campsite
    3. Unseen Servant (the scroll is the 25gp focus)
    4. 2 scrolls of Water Walking

    Rituals
Animal Messenger and Tenser's Floating Disk.
Several partial rituals, you can try to study them for fun, or if you had a full library at your disposal you may be able to reproduce them... they're worth keeping for a future time.

    Further Descriptions:

Ring: The ring is clearly a signet ring of House Cannith (you easily make out the metal gorgon's head). Generally worn by someone of importance. But the design and styling is odd/off... You would guess that this particular design is several hundred years old (not used anymore), but the ring itself doesn't appear to be that old (based on the wear and tear of the the object, you'd guess it no more than a few decades at most) -- (PS. it is non-magical and could be sold for some coin if you wish.)
Papers: The papers are pages from someone's ritual book (you can tell from the quality of the paper and ink). It appears that the book also had some journal entries (which means they must be important if the author would waste space in a valuable ritual book). The journal entries will take some time to decipher -- they're in some shorthand and sloppy penmanship (during your next extended rest, you'll be able to make an intelligence check).

    Male Halfling Warlock / 2

I was thinking, shocking I know, that although I would enjoy the rat killer's coat, that perhaps it would be better suited for a melee person. I also wasn't sure if I can wear that coat as well as the Cloak and Armor. If I can wear it all together and no one else wants it, then fir-shizzle, however if that's not the case I will opt for the armor and cloak and let the coat go to a meat shield or into the community liquidation loot. I will wait on an answer before finalizing the upgrades.

    The Armor is The Coat.
It's called a +1 Leather Rat Killer's Coat (it gives +1 to AC, AND it protects you from swarms, resist 5). And yes, you can wear that with a cloak just fine.

Now, as for a melee person wearing it. Right now, Katsuye is wearing regular +1 leather armor (no extra bonuses). You two could trade, if you wish.

In our table top game... Sorin (my mage) has swarm protection and it has come in handy, Tempest (melee) has had swarm protection and it too has come in handy. It's tough to say who "needs" it more.
