We must be getting closer to the Irrisen border.
Warmer temperatures and lighter snow cover, now that's a good sign.
Snow? Are you sure? I suppose it's possible from the cloud cover, but we don't get a lot of snow in Cheliax.
Filios Philandril |
Maeltheron stares at the skies.
I agree with Belegorn. This may be a bad one. Let's start to make up camp now. We really need to make use of this cold weather gear. We are going to have to ride it out.
Konnar |
Very well then, let us make haste, and we can be keeping an eye open for good shelter, should the snowstorm break... Konnar pulls his winter coat closer and forges on ahead.
Gryne Skystone |
Ughhh a snowstorm is brewin', so much for a relaxing night.
I must support my Dwarven brother and Filios. There is a storm brewing and with the distraction of this gentle break in weather it could leave us stranded without a sound camp to survive a blizzard. I'd suggest we take the extra time to reinforce a camp with a secure location for our lil' companions.
An inadequate camp could lead to our mission derailing on only the second day.
I'd rather push ahead, but with the sensitive cargo, it is better to play it safe
Belegorn of Erastil |
I would prefer to put these towers behind us. We can travel for two more hours or so and still have plenty of time to set up a secure camp for the night before the storm hits full force.
Konnar |
I have very little knowledge of the wilderness, how long do you think we have before the storm hits? Do you think we will be able to find some shelter better than these towers before it becomes too rough? How are the goblins dressed? Do they look like they are minding the cold at all? They are blue, not your run of the mill, Varisian goblins I am guessing.
Roshan |

They seem to be handling the cold quite well, though they won't stop running off in random directions if they see a snow hare hopping through the snow or something shiny in the distance. It's annoying but you start to anticipate when they're about to run off and you pull their line taught. They grumble and moan that "youse so means" and "I hates youse" but they seem to have the attention span of a gold fish and soon after are off about how much fun they're having, or that they're hungry.
Gryne Skystone |
Roshan, do we have a sense of when the storm will be upon us?
I'm fine pushing on to the last minute for us to set up a sturdy camp, but it cannot be haphazard or I know we'll lose a goblin or two.
We will need to set up a secure camp before the sun goes done, just so we can get some rest with the Goblins in tow.
If you all want to push on, that would be fine with me, but let us be wary of the sky and the strength of the wind.

It's hard to say, the weather can be fickle. In a couple minutes the winds could shift and take the storm far out of your path, or it could dump it right on top of you. It's not an exact science, all you know is that there's a good chance of a blizzard hitting you.
Looks like you're moving on.
Konnar |
When the snow starts to fall, Konnar begins keeping an eye out for possible shelter to take, that we can get to soon. As he spots places, he points them out to the others. Will that work?

When the snow starts building to a flurry, Konnar wraps his cloak around himself and turns back to check on the others...
Roshan |
Something shiny in the distance?
What are the goblins looking at?By the horns of Asmodeus, a warm hearth would be a welcome comfort.
It looks to be glimpses of the sun peeking out from overcast skies reflecting upon the snow. Fleeting shinies.

There is not a whole lot of shelter here, the best you can see is a lone tree about a mile off. It seems to be fairly large and would offer some additional cover from the snow.
Roshan |
"Seems the best option in our predicament." Strat looks around as well for any other possibilities.
[dice=Survival]1d20+4
Unless you'd like to dig a hole in the ground there is literally nothing else for miles. A few hours back can take you to the towers but your progress will be severely hampered by the weather.
Filios Philandril |
Let's get busy with the shelter...now!
@GM Roshan: I assume that you are requiring Survival Rolls?
Filios will attempt to aid any others with skills in survival to set up camp.
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Roshan |
It's a little hard with the wind starting to pick up but with everyone helping you're able to get a shelter set up. Unfortunately the weather takes a turn for the worse during the time it takes you to do so.
Fortitude Saves against cold If you have cold weather gear or endurance remember to include their bonuses in your roll.
Roshan |
Those who roll below 15 take 1d6 ⇒ 6 non-lethal damage as the cold chills you to the bone. The goblins seem to chortle as you rush to get the shelter set up. Once inside it's actually pretty toasty, a dozen warm bodies in a small space keeps it pretty warm.
Konnar |
Teeth chattering, S-so c-c-c-cold-d-d-d...
Once the shelter is built and a fire is going well, Konnar huddles next to it, trying to get warm.
Any idea, how long this might last?
Gryne Skystone |
Gryne listening to the wind blow the snow across the frozen landscape feels a sense of calm fall over him. His connection to the wind and air brings him confidence and comfort.
Ahhh Nice and toasty in here. We'll rest here and continue on our journey when the storm blows over.
Addressing the Goblins.
You all will be safe in here, you have my word, If you decide to take advantage of this storm and escape us, I will promise you nothing less than death awaits you.
Belegorn of Erastil |
Bah, you can’t take a little snow storm, Longshanks? No wonder you have been sticking to Absalom for so long! Belegorn chuckles. Don’t singe your cloak now. It'll be warm in here soon enough.
Belegorn pulls out his pipe and shortly fills the shelter with a robust aroma.
Oh, that reminds me! Belegorn reaches deep into his pack and pulls out a small keg of Ale, pours a mug, and hands it to Konnar. This should help to warm your toes! Drink up!
Konnar |
Thanks to you, friend Belegorn! Ale is a much welcome sight! Fishing through his pack, Konnar produces a tankard, his hands shaking slightly as he waits for the dwarf to fill it.
Other than for the purposes of relieving himself, Konnar is not leaving the tent.
Roshan |
The howling winds die down a few hours before sunrise. As the night turns to day you can see the light from the sunrise peeking through the top of the tent. Exiting the temporary shelter you can see that the outside has been buried under several feet of snow.
Gryne Skystone |
how hidered are we as far as walking through it, speaking as a Dwarf of course?
Ahhhhh a fresh blanket of snow, we'll have to be careful as we cannot cover our tracks as well now.
Roshan |

Just outside the tent is what you would consider hindering (2-3 feet), but that's only because there was a break in the wind and a place for it to collect. The strong winds that brought the blizzard also didn't let it settle too deep in any one place. You'll have to watch your step as the entire ground is blanketed in snow but it doesn't come up higher than your ankles in most places.
Konnar |
Pulling out his spade, Konnar starts shoveling a path out of the tent and begins clearing the area around, so that everyone can break down the tent.
Good morning all! he says, stretching, I'll have this all cleared out soon! Somebody want to make some breakfast?
