It took a 20 to be able to see the giant pyramid in the middle of the walkway. LOL
Jawhar casts Detect Magic again.
"You guys are being overly cautious, don't you think. You're acting like we just passed a cunningly hidden trap designed to bring the whole roof down on us.
Oh wait... nevermind."

![]() |

"Hmmm, a stone thing on wheels. Yup, I'm out of ideas. I'll just wait here, ok?"
Craggark seems flummoxed.

![]() |

"Perhaps it is an astrological device? It does seem like an odd place for a model of a pyramid."

![]() |

"I agree, it is very strange. I have absolutely no idea what it could have been intended for whatsoever. I suppose we may as well approach it and see what we can learn from a closer - but still cautious - inspection."
Jamir turns around to give Myth, Torvald, Lia, and Jawhar a confident wink, then turns back to face the strange obstacle with a considerably more wary mien.
“Well then, my friend,” he murmurs to Craggark. “Let us advance. There is no glory to be found at this end of the corridor, eh?”

![]() |

Know Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Suddenly, as if waking from a deep slumber, Lia is jolted from her musings of the place they are in and she blurts out, "Wait Jamir! That seems to be some sort of construct. Don't provoke it, or at least be prepared that it may take your actions as hostile. Other than that, I agree that we should move closer."
She smiles with great interest and, if it is even possible, her eyes seem to widen even more than normal.

![]() |

"A construct?" Torvald looks skeptical but intrigued. "Its design seems less than ideal for defending the hall, but that's not to say you're wrong."

![]() |

"One way or another, we have to get by it, though. Can we fit beside it or will we need to try to push it out of the way?"

![]() |

"I've got it!" Craggark exclaims.
He starts to walk forward, cautiously. After two steps, he turns around and looks at Jamir.
"Well? Are you coming?"
Craggark plans on getting a running head start and leaping over the thing unless it moves to react to him when he gets closer.

![]() |

Jamir looks at the point at the top of the pyramid and eyeballs the height of the gap between it and the ceiling, then looks up at Craggark, then back at the pyramid.
"I think it might be a little easier to go to the sides where the pyramid slopes away from the ceiling, instead of straight over the middle. But yes, I believe we are thinking along the same lines."
Jamir, too, will take a running jump to get past the pyramid - unless, as Craggark said, it reacts as they approach. He will take at least 10 feet for the running start, and will use a point of panache to add 1d6 for Derring-Do! When he leaps past it, he will continue his move another two squares past the pyramid unless he sees a reason to stop sooner.
Acrobatics, Derring-Do!: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 9 + (5) = 15
So hooray for Derring-Do! I suppose whether Jamir faceplants into the side of the pyramid depends on whether his plan to jump closer to the wall is enough to bring the DC down to 15 or lower, but even if it doesn’t, getting a 15 on a natural 1 sure beats the alternative.

See discussion thread.
Jamir runs at the pyramid and attempts a stylish leap over it. Everything slows as the camera pulls back. Jamir’s laughter booms as he launches himself into the air, and as his head turns toward Craggark to say something - probably a gentle taunt about the half-orc’s inelegant, lumbering charge - the toe of the halfling’s boot catches the corner of the structure, and he slams down against it before falling to the floor.
Luckless, I’m not sure where Jamir should land. I’ll put him immediately in front of the pyramid - on the same side as the party, opposite from Craggark, but feel free to move him if that’s wrong. I assume he is prone as well?

![]() |

This is much bigger than I thought.
Craggark considers changing his course as he rushes the obstacle, but instead tries to spring off the side of the wall and over the pyramid's sloping side. He passes by, limbs flailing, by the hair of his backside and lands on his feet, his momentum taking him ten feet beyond the now-moving pyramid.
'Now-moving'? Aw, f------

Jamir and Craggark try to rush the Pyrmaid and clear it in a single bound. Craggark just clears the object but Jamir trips up landing in front of the the thing. The Pyrmaid shakes off a couple thousand years of dust and sand and it's rollers start to spin and smoke. The causeway is filled with the terrible screeching sound of stone grating against stone at a high speed. Jamir looks up from his position on the ground. The Heavy construct moving and looming over him. An uncomfortable lump is lodge is throat. Analia was right this is no object of art..it's an ancient guardian come to life...to defend it's home!

"Ah, so that's what it does. So, Lia, some kind of construct, you say? Is there anything you might be able to tell us about it that would be of immediate use, my friend?"

![]() |

Lia communicates what little she knows to the team.
"And that's all I know! I hope it helps!"
Lia's action will depend on what she knows about the construct, other than typical construct traits.

Analia relays that, this creature most likely has normal construct traits, that anything but Adamantine weapons, will probably be less effective (hardness '8'), that even though it looks like a block it might be able to grow appendages (reach '10'), and that the rollers indicate some type of special attack (has trample)

"Oh this is going to hurt." Lia says with a sigh, as the deadly stone sentinel trundles along it's path.
"I doubt my magic will have much effect... but I will do what I can!" she says the last part with great enthusiasm as she runs away at full speed.
She is going to try to gain some distance from the thing so she can attack effectively, though sadly a double move is only 40. Maybe giving herself a few rounds before it runs her over.

Vroom! Vroom ! Screech!!! The Pyramid lurches forward attempting to roll over or bowl over anyone or anything in the way. It passes right through Myth and Jamir easily, (who may be both knocked prone)! bearing down on Analia Torvald and Jawhar!
Going to move you all down the hall a little so we have some room to play with. Jamir you can make an AoO at the charging Pyramid or a reflex save (DC:18) to get out of the way(for 1/2 dmg). Myth your only choice is the reflex save.

My preorder is obviously invalid.
Turn around and Run (full round action) in the opposite direction. This will take me off of the current map and onto the next map. Not sure how you want to handle that.

lucklesshero |

note if you run, not withdraw, the construct gets an AoO Jawhar. also you are about 1/2 way down a 700’ hallway ( think I already posted that somewhere)

"Gah! It's much faster than it looks!" Stumbling backwards from the oncoming pyramid, he hurriedly backs away down the tunnel, thinking furiously about his options. "It's just a block of stone, my bombs won't do anything but blacken its exterior!"
Double Move, I'll eat the AoO
I don't think I can hurt it with bombs, 1/2 damage minus hardness means I have to do at least 18dmg to it and my bombs max out at 17. I don't think acid would do any better either.

lucklesshero |

guys I may be wrong but, A. Pretty sure hardness only applies to weapons and natural attacks not spells an energy damage. Also though it may not make a lot of sense constructs are treated different from objects made of the same materials ... ie I couldn’t find any evidence that stone or metal constructs only took 1/2 dmg from energy based attacks. If anyone has anything to contradict this please bring it to my attention thx

"Oh wow," Craggark says, his expression of the word 'wow' not sounding like the word 'wow' at all.
I've got a plan...
The half-orc moves up, performing a quick kata as he considers his half-baked plan.

There has been no mention of it having arms. Its only attack so far has been rolling over people. I don't see how I can take an AoO from something that is rolling over people. Does it have visible arms? If so, I will change my action. Otherwise, it stands. I can run for 700 feet, eventually. If it catches up or turns around, I will have to change tactics.

BTW got an answer on energy damage. It was answered in a 'Year of the Sky Key' FAQ of all places.
When a creature with hardness sustains damage, subtract its hardness from the damage dealt. The rules for halving damage, doubling damage, dealing damage with ineffective tools, immunities, and the like only apply to damaging inanimate objects.
(This is apparently a question the Design Team has received a few times during the development of Iron Gods, so they were ready to go with an answer!) Here is the Link to the FAQ.

Maximum damage with Jamir’s rapier without burning panache is 10hp; after hardness, that’s 2hp. I’ll forego the AoO and try the Reflex save.
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Jeez. Just getting the bad rolls out of the way, I hope.
Jamir yelps as the animated pyramid barrels over him, leaving him a little the worse for wear on the floor behind it as it continues down the hall towards Lia, Torvald, and Jawhar.

Sure I don't know I didn't design the creature...it's imagination time...I'll throw the statblock under a spoiler for any who want to peek.
Large stone animated object (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 14)
N Large construct
Init +0; Senses darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision; Perception –5
Defense
AC 16, touch 9, flat-footed 16 (+7 natural, –1 size)
hp 52 (4d10+30)
Fort +1, Ref +1, Will –4
Defensive Abilities hardness 8; Immune construct traits
Offense
Speed 30 ft.
Melee slam +9 (1d8+9)
Space 10 ft.; Reach 10 ft.
Special Attacks trample (1d8+9, DC 18)
Statis tics
Str 22, Dex 10, Con —, Int —, Wis 1, Cha 1
Base Atk +4; CMB +11; CMD 21
SQ construction points (stone, trample) So nothing in the stat suggest it can't run or charge or take AoO's like every other creature. It has a slam attack and a 10' reach. So it gets to AoO just like everything else. But it can still be hit and destroyed (in fact it's AC is lower right now because it just charged)...Apparently energy damage effects it the same as weapons. Be like Dutch, "If it bleeds sand...we can kill it!"...GM is done defending animated pyramid block.

Sorry, I somehow glossed over the appendages part of that post.
Jawhar steps up, hoping to block the creature from going further down the hallway.
5-foot step into the space Torvald left. Draw Scimitar. Total Defense.
OK, that is dumb since the Trample automatically succeeds
Might as well try to damage it.
Two-handed scimitar swing (-1 to hit due to buckler).
Scimitar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 that should be 1 less

What about acid? Is acid considered energy damage? Tried to research it, got conflicting answers...
depending on what kind of acid we're talking about generally acid corrodes metal. Silica based things like glass and stone are more resistant..unless shown official errata that ruled otherwise. I'd rule that acid bypasses metal but not stone's hardness.
