OK so guys...you're on the last couple of rooms... I can do one of 2 things...

1. Post when I can and finish this up maybe a month or two from now with very erratic post..(perhaps as little as once a week)

2. Or just end it..you've defeated the main bad guy...earned all the treasure...there is to be had..and frankly you'll probably walk over the last encounter as easy as you did the Mummy...

I am Ok with either I just don't want to tie up Society characters un-necessarily

Just a reminder: Jawhar fronted the gold for the camels and the kids who wrangled them for us, which I believe amounted to 23 gp each, assuming Anwar returned the full deposit.

Camel rental costs: ((2gp/camel/day) + (3sp/day for teenage assistants)) X 10 days = 2.3gp/person/day X 10 days = 23gp/person.

Jamir repays Jawhar immediately for his share, and I will deduct it from the chronicle sheet with my other purchases. Jawhar, better make sure you have only deducted your share of the expenses.

Hey GM, I was going to tick the following box on my Faction Goals sheet, with your permission:

"Gain access to a unique or variant item during the course of an adventure whose rules are printed on your Chronicle sheet." - that silver figurine of wondrous power identifies itself as a variant magic item. That counts, right?

HANG ON: I went reading into the periapt of foul rotting. It's a lot worse than previously imagined. Per the rules: "The periapt (and the affliction) can be removed only by an application of a remove curse spell followed by a cure disease spell AND THEN a heal, miracle, limited wish, or wish spell.

Are you kidding me? A 3rd level adventure gives a curse that requires a heal, miracle, limited wish, or wish spell?

There's something else though. A character has to keep the periapt in their possession for more than 24hrs for the curse to take effect.

So - did Craggark keep the periapt for more than 24hrs in his possession, GM? Do I have to go and find a Heal spell from Drandle MF Dreng? If so, then I'll simply pay 2 Prestige Points for it.

Just let me know.

Yes - but I don’t think I can ignore the need for the Heal, Miracle, or Wish spell. So if Craggark gets socked with the curse, than I have to spend the 2 PP to get the spell cast.

If I don’t hear from our GM, I’ll assume that I need to do that. Legally, I can’t ignore that for Pathfinder Society’s sake.

And yes, having the non-cursed periapt on the loot list is like a punch to the junk.

I’m sorry to say I agree with you, Craggark. It’s a terrible item to include in a low-level adventure, especially one given away for Free RPG Day. It would have required a 35 on Lia’s spellcraft check to identify the item as cursed - impossible at this level.

Also, as written, there is no way to get rid of the curse with spells at all - the required spell “cure disease” doesn’t exist. I just checked my late edition Core Rulebook and Ultimate Equipment, and they both include that typo in the description. I do think it is safe to assume they meant remove disease, though.

HOWEVER, we also found a periapt of health (it’s on the chronicle - it must be one of the items Lia couldn’t identify; there is no periapt of wound closure on the chronicle sheet, so your junk is safe). I vote that we crush it while we are on the ship back to Absalom and sprinkle the dust onto you, breaking the curse that way. Shouldn’t cost you a copper.

That's not how items in PFS work - you find them, but you always have to pay for them at the end of the scenario. That's why the inclusion of this stupid cursed item is such a kick in the head - not only do you have to pay (or have the ability) to get the curse and the disease removed, but you also have to cast a HIGH level spell for some stupid gods-awful reason.

It's just not well-balanced for the level of characters going through the adventure. Perhaps it would've been most appropriate for 5th level characters, but definitely not my 2nd level hide. Oh well. Rant over - it's been taken care of.

I guess our GM isn't going to comment on this.

You’ve got a lot more experience with Society play than I do, but I thought that if you find a consumable item - a scroll or potion, for example - you can use it during the scenario and there would be no cost. It would even still be on the chronicle at the end. My suggestion was that the periapt of health should be treated the same way. I can understand seeing it differently, but I also suspect that’s why it’s in the scenario in the first place. As long as you’ve got it resolved, that’s the important thing.

male Snows of Summer

As far as the cursed item goes, they give u a free remove curse scroll... so that’s ok... unfortunately this particular cursed item also calls for a remove disease spell , either an oversight by the author or Paizo being Paizo ... remember Gygax was some of these guys hero... you know about the curse in tomb of horrors right?

I’d check with HMM or Redalia on this. I just don’t believe the periapt of health would be an item found during the scenario and not usable before the end of the scenario without having to buy it. It’s the only way including this cursed item makes any sense.

Also, I would point out that the original Tomb of Horrors was set up for level 10-13 characters...

Um if the GM has any say in this I would rule that it only requires the remove curse and disease, if not I would just rule that you found out you were cursed in the last fight and didn’t wear the item for the required week ( meaning you can save the cost of the remove disease casting as well) so don’t stress on this ok? Just if you can’t get a satisfactory answer from one of the Venture officers Your GM rules you never had it in your possession the required week for the curse to ‘ take hold’ I believe it’s supposed to be a ‘ fun’ annoying item ; there to remind you that ancient tombs still hold curses in Golarion. I don’t think it’s suppose to be a punitive item meant to punish curiosity

The required time to wear it to get the curse wasn't a week, GM - it was 24hours.

Here's the text:

This engraved gem appears to be of little value. If any character keeps the periapt in her possession for more than 24 hours, she contracts a terrible rotting affliction that permanently drains 1 point of Dexterity, Constitution, and Charisma every week. The periapt (and the affliction) can be removed only by application of a remove curse spell followed by a cure disease and then a heal, miracle, limited wish, or wish spell. The rotting can also be countered by crushing a periapt of health and sprinkling its dust upon the afflicted character (a full-round action), whereupon the periapt of foul rotting likewise crumbles to dust.

BUT....I found THIS LINK. It would seem that Jamir is correct! If we found and identified both the cursed periapt and the periapt of health, then we could use that instead.

I would be happy to save my 2PP and have us have to pay for the identification of the items in Eto (nearest city), and then all of this badness can go away and Craggark will never wear pendants or periapts EVER AGAIN.

Is that cool?

Maybe the pharaoh put the cursed periapt on while HE was exploring an ancient tomb and didn't want to admit his mistake.

All of the undeath was simply him attempting to have some company after the foul rotting turned him into a mummy!

That is pretty cool that the module built a resolution into itself.

I will happily chip in to cover the cost for identifying the items.

And I think Craggark brought it all on himself by offering to wear the pendant on his butt.

OK pay for 2 identifies and the deal is done...sorry there's such a nasty cursed item. But, it's been kinda fun finding the solution. Gonna close this thread today to clean up everyone's boards.

Thx for playing guys!
