A birthday cake...out of which bursts a Risen Guard-themed chippendale! Partay!
| lucklesshero |
*then it happens*...a sudden rush of air brushes past you as the wall before you splits in two and begins to slowly grind open on ancient rollers that haven't been used in centuries. Simultaneously you here the click of the blade trap above you release; However, Myth's forethought in disabling it, has spared both Analia and himself from dodging the blade as it would have most certainly of swung through their area.
As the door grinds to a halt, it reveals a rather bare room. There are carvings similar to the ones you saw out in the Portico on the walls and two statues of Jackle headed humanoids on either side of a large set of stone double doors. Other than that, the room appears empty.
Did the suspense kill ya? LOL Fyi your on slide 13 now
Jamir "Hamstring" Montajay

Jamir raises his eyebrows and glances up at the jammed blades.
”Well, that was almost a ... close shave,” he jokes, albeit weakly. ”Craggark, would you care to make a wager as to how far we can get into this room before those statues come to some evil mockery of life and try to crush, decapitate, fold, spindle, or mutilate us?”

are aid another’s allowed on knowledge checks?
Jamir "Hamstring" Montajay

Well, that's an interesting question, isn't it?
(In particular, take a look at our online VC HMM's responses in the thread.)
Jawhar
|
"Have we seen those jackal headed statues before? They seem quite familiar.
I've heard some stories from people who visited Osirion of a god or angel or something who had the head of a jackal. Unfortunately, my studies always centered around the gods of the usual pantheon.
I hope they aren't more constructs. Those staffs look as if they could be formidable weapons."
Jawhar tries to peer around the corner at the carvings. "Well, this certainly seems like the entrance to a king's tomb."

"I seem to recall something to confirm your thoughts Jawhar." Lia says with excitement. She then begins to tell what she knows, hopping to aid Jawhar in recalling more details about the jackal headed being depicted here.
If you allow the Aid Other on the knowledge check, we get the information in the spoiler, but if not, I won't spoil it here.
Jawhar

"Of course, now I remember!
Those statues depict Anubis, the Ossirian god of death, mummification, and tombs. It always struck me as a bit of a paradox.
How can there possibly be two gods of death, especially if they operate from different planes of existence?
All I can say is that he apparently doesn't have the same abhorence for undeath that Pharasma does, based on our encounter so far."
Yes, this looks promising. Here, we should find something worthy of Jamir's glory
From the back of the group, Jawhar starts edging forward, anxious to get into this new room.

Ok making a GM call to get things moving..based on Jawhar's post: "From the back of the group, Jawhar starts edging forward, anxious to get into this new room." Going to put Jawhar one step in front of Analia a few feet in to the room. No surprise round..you all expected the statues to animate.
As Jawhar crosses in to the room the statues begin to animate.
Roll for initiative. (I'll roll for anyone who hasn't when I post again tonight)

Jamir tightens his grip on his rapier, then tilts his head to one side until his neck pops. He rolls his shoulders, then nods at the big half-orc standing with him ... at the rear? How did we get to the back of the group?
"So if you are paying attention, my friend, you can see that had you taken my wager, the winning bet would have been 'less than 5 feet.'"
Jawhar

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Still fascinated by the realization that these statues represent Anubis, Jawhar doesn't react quickly to the movement of the statue's heads.
When he does, he let's out a squeak, and looks around to see that he mistakenly crossed the threshold in his distraction and is now in front of everyone.
"Help", he squeaks in the most manly way possible

Working on my post as well, won't be long. Hope Myth gets in a good shot while they're flat-footed as well!

We did heal after the last combat, right? I said something about healing, I distinctly remember. Fixing my HP on my tagline, taking off the wand charges.
Jamir follows Craggark into the room, ducking past Analia and Jawhar.
Or is it merely an antechamber?
"Where do those doors go, do you think?" The little swashbuckler muses as he lunges at the enormous animated artwork. "And why are these statues guarding them after all these years?"
Spending a panache point to double the precision damage while the thing is still easier to hit as flat-footed.

Nice! Also, they should be flat-footed, so no attacks of opportunity for them.

If you have specifically stated that you healed please take off the appropriate amount on your 'happy sticks' and heal yourselves before entering combat. I will assume you all entered combat fully healed.
Myth let's 2 arrows loose that chip the black statue good. Jamir moves to the creature's side and attacks, scoring a minor hit. Craggark sticks his foot out and shoves the creature tripping it!
The blue statue begins to move now and moves right past Myth firing his bow and positions itself at Myth's side. It then takes a mighty swing at the elf with it's Kopesh. Kopesh: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 confirm crit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21crit dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 The statue gives Myth as good as Myth gave it's counter part and opens an ugly cut on Myth's upper arm with it's ancient blade.

Analia cast a small ray of fire that hits but doesn't seem to affect the statue. Torvald does one of his strange mixtures. The black statue tries to stand provoking attacks of opportunity from Craggark and Jamir.

Finally breaking out of his surprise, Jawhar looked around to see how he could best influence the fight. Factoring in his depleted spell selection and the fact that they would likely have another battle once they breached the next room, decided that improving Craggark's chances to do damage would be ideal.
"Don't worry, Myth, I'll be back to help."
Jawhar takes a circuitous route to avoid AoOs and moves behind Craggark, casting Blessed Fist on him.

She is casting enlarge person on Craggark, and it is a full round to cast so it won't come into effect until her next action. BTW, after this encounter, I was going to suggest we head to a previously cleared area and secure it so we can take a rest and to recover spells before we continue.

Looks like that crit confirmed, which means Jamir gets a panache point back, which I'm going to use here to double precision damage on a it. If I'm wrong, please subtract 3 points of precision damage from this attack - I do NOT intend to let Jamir's panache drop to 0.

Answer:You do need another check: however, you nearly automatically beat their CMD (with your Acrobatics modifier) so don't bother.
Myth dances through the battle getting on the opposite of Jawhar and managing to knock a chip out of the blue Anibus Statue. Jamir stabs strait in to a large crack of the black Anibus statue bending his rapier till it almost *snaps*; at last he' rewarded with the satisfying sound of stone splitting and the large crack turns in to multiple fissures as the black statue breaks apart and crumbles to the ground.
