Denlar shuffles the cards then heads back down to open the door at the bottom of the stairs.

Ansgar takes a moment to look around, "Those two goblins must've been guards up hear and heard us..."

Ansgar will follow Denlar back down after his quick look.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

The door goes into a L-shaped corridor with two other doors, one to the north and the other to the west.

Denlar will move ahead and open the door to the north.

Garbund will move into the new corridor after Denlar, with his crossbow ready.

And allowing room for Ansgar to get in front of him.

Denlar tries to open the door, but its locked.

"Locked, anyone any good at opening doors?" Denlar asks while looking the other door over.

"I can open it. But not quietly." Ansgar chuckles as he moves in behind Denlar.

Denlar nods holding his Ranseur at the ready

Neither stealth nor subtlety are our great strengths." Garbund acknowledges to nobody in particular.

"I'll breach, you enter, I'll follow." Ansgar says to Denlar as he raises his leg and kicks the door right beside the lock.

I am going to batter down the locked door to the north.

Ansgar gives the door three kicks before it finally cracks open, the door leads into a small, foul-smelling butchery. Haunches of poorly smoked meat hang from hooks along the ceiling or lie heaped in and atop crates. In some cases, the meat seems to be dog or horse, but in many other cases, the meat has all-too-recognizable features, like feet, hands, or grimacing faces. Father Zantus covers his mouth and runs to a corner.

"Pha! The sooner we clear this place out the better.
"And to think that Ameiko's half-brother Tsuto dealt with this lot.
"Willingly, no less!"

... and while Father Zanthus (understandably) loses his lunch, Garbund will hold his nose and search this grisly larder for anything useful to fight Goblins.

Denlar looks in the room, holding his breath and trying not to take a breath close once they leave. Denlar closes the door and opens the western one, ready to defend himself.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the western doors is also locked.

Ansgar waits for Garbund to be done in the butcher's room, then repeats his stunt from the previous door.

Gonna get a sore foot eventually...

Garbund takes a good look at the room, but doesn't find anything that could be useful.

Ansgar's second kick slams the door open into a large throne room. The room is decorated with hanging furs along its walls, mostly black-and-red striped firepelt skins, various dog pelts, and in some cases, what look like horse hides. Four square timbers support the ceiling, their faces studded with dozens of iron spikes, with the lower reaches decorated with dozens of impaled and severed hands in various stages of decay. To the northeast, a wooden platform supports a throne heaped with dog pelts and horse hides. Dog skulls adorn the armrests and a horse skull leers over the throne’s back.

On the throne room, you can see a slightly taller and more muscular goblin with green skin, wearing a breastplate and a spiked helmet that somewhat resembles a crown, to his side is a giant gecko lizard. You can also see the blue-robed goblin and firepelt cougar that ran away from the fight outside.

Ansgar and Garbund can also see a goblin hiding behind the pillar nearest to the throne, with a horsechopper in hand.

As soon as the door opens, the goblin on the throne shouts.

"Stop, longshanks! Get no close! We talk so I don't kill you!"

"This is Ripnugget, the leader of the Thistletop goblins.", Shalelu whispers to you, nocking two arrows on her bow. "For years I've waited for this chance..."

Then we take it now?

Denlar readies himself, barely containing his excitement for the upcoming battle.

"Why shoudl we talk?"

"They're conveniently few in number. Even with that one hiding behind the pillar."

Garbund too, readies himself for the inevitable dust-up.

@ GM Wilken: How much time would be left on Garbund's mage shield?
Probably lots, but I don't want to get into a fight just to have that fizzle on me!

"Father, please heal me if you have the strength. I will need all the vigor I can muster shortly."

A grim smile on his face Ansgar calls out, "What have you to say, Sir Ripnugget? Your people attack us. Your people kill us. There is little that will sway the judgement on your crimes."

@Denlar - my first round will likely be casting a spell, so don't go more than 10 feet from the door or you might get surrounded before I can help you make a battle line.

Sure, I can set to be ready for a charge or whatever. I will use the Ranseur since it has reach and I can get an AoO

@Garbund mage armor is fine. Denlar's shield of faith is still up as well.

"We can't talk this way, one longshanks come closer and we can talk. Just one!"

Denlar takes 2 steps forward

As Denlar steps out into the room, Ansgar steps back into the butchers room to hide his casting a spell.

"Ragathiel, shield me in the fight to come." Ansgar prays.

Casting shield of faith on my self. AC is 21/14/16 for the next 3 minutes.

"We no talk like this, closer, longshanks!", Ripnugget says, impatient.

As Ansgar retreats to cast a spell, Zantus follows him and makes a prayer to Desna.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ansgar heals 9 hp

"Thank you father." Ansgar says. Seeing that the goblin wanted someone to come closer, and not wanting to risk Denlar, Ansgar strides into the room shield on his arm, but his sword away in its scabbard. His faith in Ragathiel providing him with extra protection.

As Ansgar strides past Denlar he mutters, "Try to flank." Hoping that the creatures will focus on him.

Stopping right in front of the cougar, Ansgar barks, "Speak what you have to say Ripnugget!"

Ansgar readies to five foot step to the left, draw his blade, and attack if he is attacked first.

AC is 21/14/16 for the next 3 minutes. Probably should've been a paladin given my current antics. LoH would be nice to have right about now.

Denlar steps a head again 5', poking the ground first with his Ranseur to make sure it isn't trapped.

As Ansgar and Denlar get closer, Ripnugget shrieks.

"Fools, I trick you! Kill them!"

You don't know how you didn't notice before, but three goblins come from behind the pillars, surrounding you and cutting Ansgar and Denlar off from the rest of the party.

With a roar Ansgar pulls out his blade and swings at the creature behind him. Need to free up room for Garbund and Shalelu...

"Denlar, push left a bit. We need to create a pocket!" Ansgar says.

Denlar Growls at the expected Betrayl, lashing out with a spiked fist at the cat in front of him.

Although Garbund knows he's not the best combatant, he moves into the room slightly and attacks the nearest goblin (blue):

Ansgar cuts the goblin behind him, killing it.

Another goblin runs towards the door to surround the group inside the room. Denlar gets an AoO vs Green, he then swings his horsechopper at Denlar.

As the attack misses, Zantus touches Shalelu's shoulder and mutters a prayer of luck to Desna. Bit of Luck on Shalelu

The goblin to the west side of the room starts chanting a familiar tune...

"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!"

The other goblins seem invigorated by the song, swinging their blades at Denlar with great enthusiasm.

Warchief Ripnugget jumps from his throne into the back of the giant gecko lizard in front him, the lizard then circles around the room.

Shalelu steps into the door, two arrows ready, and sends them loose at the goblin warchief.

The fire goes through Ansgar's armor, badly burning him.

The cougar then lashes out at Denlar.

Roaring as the fire hits him, Ansgar swings at the goblin that just came up behind them, trying to keep Denlar from getting swamped and giving Garbund room to maneuver.

The goblin had 12 hp, so you were off by one, unfortunately, but it does mean Garbund kills him with the dagger.

Ansgar hits a powerful swing at the robed goblin, who recoils with pain. Riled up by the song and in the presence of their warchief, the goblins stay in the fight despite quickly losing two of theirs.

Zantus quickly moves into the room, making a prayer to Desna and touching Denlar's back.

"Stay in the fight and the starsong will protect you!"

Temp Hp: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Zantus casts Aid on Denlar. Denlar has a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saves against fear effects, plus 9 temporary hit points

The remaining goblin shifts to the side and swings his horsechopper at Denlar.

The goblin to the west chants something in goblinoid, the says to Ansgar.

"What has 100 legs but can't walk? 50 longshanks, hahaha!"

He casts Hideous Laughter at Ansgar

Ripnugget points his shortsword at Garbund.

"CHAAAAAARGE!", he shrieks, as the gecko lizard runs towards the half-orc sorcerer.

Garbund takes 15 points of damage

Shalelu readies two more arrows and keeps shooting at Ripnugget.

Meanwhile, the cougar bites and claws at Denlar.

The Cat is just ripping me to pieces, but I am super flanked.The cougar is not listed on the round chart. We need to concentrate fire.

Gritting his teeth at the pain to come, Ansgar changes his focus to the robed goblins cougar.

Denlar intercepts Ripnugget with his ranseur as the goblin warchief charges; he then turns around and hits a hook at the cougar's head. The animal is still standing but clearly struggling to keep his balance.

Garbund withdraws back into the corridor, away from Ripnugget.

Ansgar strikes at the cougar as well, but the creature ducks below his sword.

Zantus prays to Desna.

You all regain 3 hp

A wave of healing emanates around him, healing everyone but the cougar and Ripnugget.

The goblin next to Denlar strikes with his horsechopper.

Goblin(Red) vs. Denlar): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14

Cursing as he misses, he then shifts to the side, hiding from Denlar behind the pillar.

The goblin to the west runs behind a pillar as well. A few seconds later, you can hear multiple goblins shrieking warcries coming from the south.

You all recognize the warcries as a magical illusion, something about the sound just doesn't sound real.

Ripnugget retreats, lining up another charge. Denlar gets another AoO

Shalelu steps foward and tries to help Denlar and Ansgar take down the cougar.

@ GM Wilken: Thanks for botting me. That strategic withdrawal into the corridor is what I would've done!

@Garbund: You had to spend your action withdrawin on round 3, otherwise you wold've taken an AoO, you can keep your round 3 damage roll for round 5 if you want to cast Magic Missiles again

Ansgar and Denlar both miss their strikes, Garbund launches two force missiles at Ripnugget, who seems fairly wounded at this point as he gasps for air.

Zantus prays to Desna and touches Denlar's back.

Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Denlar recovers 8 hp. Feel free to slot an action here as you would've been able to do so without losing 1 hp

Denlar feels some of his wounds closing and some of his strength returns.

Zantus then steps foward to intercept the goblin behind the pillar, the goblin swings his horsechopper at the cleric.

Zantus winces in pain as he holds his wound.

The singing goblin hustles toward Ripnugget as he chants a spell, touching the warchief and healing some of his wounds.

As his wounds are healed, Ripnugget spurs his lizard and charges toward Shalelu.

The shortsword hits her on the shoulder, she gives Ripnugget a hateful look, stepping back and letting two arrows loose.

But Ansgar deftly dodges.

The cougar smells blood and goes after Denlar.

Only his bite connects, but its enough to once again leave Denlar staggered.

So I would have healed to 8, then took 9 so I would have dropped. Now I did forget to add on my +2 hp from my Armored vigor. SO I am at 1 then get healed for 6

Ansgar and Denlar keep attacking, but the cougar is faster than expected and once again moves away from both strikes. Garbund also fires at Ripnugget but misses.

The goblin next to Zantus hacks away with his horsechopper.

Shalelu steps next to Ripnugget and shoots, opening herself to his attacks in the process.

Slightly panicked at Denlar's demise, Ansgar swings at the cougar again, praying for a hit.

He then moves closer to the dor and tries burning Ripnugget:

As Denlar's body hits the floor and his blood starts spilling to the floor, Ansgar makes a powerful strike and feels his blade against the cougar's skull. The creature cries out in pain and seems barely alive at this point.

The cougar had exactly 11 hp left, it is at 0 hp and staggered.

Garbund steps closer to the door and shoots a ray of fire towards Ripnugget, the ray hits the warchief, who also seems about to drop from his mount.

The goblin near Zantus strikes trying to finish off the cleric.

The bloody chant coming from the goblin to the west of the room suddenly stops, as he coughs and seems to have lost his voice. He draws and shoots it at Ansgar.
No more turns of bardic performance, the inspire courage is over.

The small arrow crashes into the pillar next to Denlar's corpse.

A severely wounded and surrounded Ripnugget withdraws from the combat, hiding behind Gogmurt.

"You are NOT running away!", Shalelu screams, going after him with little regard to her own safety and receiving a strike on her way.
