Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.

Fumble: If you roll a natural 1 on your attack roll, make a dexterity check. If you get less than 10 you fumble. If you get more than 10 your attack simply misses very badly. If you roll a natural 20 you get your attack back, roll another attack roll!

Super crits: If you roll a natural 20 on a critical and when you roll another 20 to confirm this is a super crit, increase your weapons modifier by 1. (ex: X2 becomes X3)

Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.
Rolls that will be handled by the GM:
Perception
Sense Motive.

if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.

Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.

Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...

Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: You are villains. Villains are smart, resourceful and have style! Have you ever seen a memorable villain that could just swing his sword and do nothing more?

Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).

Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

AMENDMENT TO LAST POST:

The hound archon helps Lord Zohan through the window. They examine the interrupted meal for signs of Black Arrow stew.

The hound archon is still in the dining room so its aura of menace does not affect the zombies.

Most of the meat on the table seems to be form a deer but you do notice a human arm, could be a black Arrow. There is no indicator for you to be sure who it belonged too.

That is Karla and Zohan still need a post from everyone else.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras makes a parting shot at the nearest zombie before retreating into the dining room to free up the corridor.
All the same effects as last time, I think.

going to fast forward to the end of this fight. There are no more enemies on the 1st floor.

Zadderk fires another volley taking down this zombie as well.

The other zombie moves up and attacks Karla
attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 191d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Karla hit the zombie and the others take in down with arrows.

Karla exhales and mutters a word of thanks to her god: "Iron paves the Way, and I walk it at peace, for Death is Fear, but I am already dead."

She turns to the others, carefully wiping the blood and gore on her blade on an ogrekin's tunic. "We need to keep moving and bring the battle to them. They use traps though..." She lets the words hang, partly because she tries to push away the image of her fallen comrade, partly to let others think of suggestions.

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

"Let us see what the undead ogrekin were guarding in their room. Black Arrows, perhaps?"

Male Human (Chelaxian) Magus/7 (Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +5 ; Init +1 ; Perception +0)

Lucan nods, still holding his sword. "Yes, let's press on. The building is assuredly alerted. If there are any Black Arrows being held here, we might have to move fast to recover them alive."

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

Andras puts the still-glowing crossbow away and reaches for a healing wand.
"Somehow the traps they construct are even deadlier than their hooks. May Serra's soul enjoy the access to the First Vault, but give me a minute to heal those still living."

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

Lord Zohan sends Khartelosch into the room once occupied by the zombies to scout out danger.

"That's good thinking Zohan! Send the archon to open the way. I can follow it. I'd go down those stairs now. Send the archon in!"

Reloading his crossbow, Zadderk smirks as the world slowly starts to speed back to normal again while he approaches the others. "I don't like'ese narrow corriders' one bit. Dasher's outside in tha' air, so e's gonna be just fine cuz'e won't attack unless i'm in view. E'll worry, but it'll be fine. That said, les' press on.' he says as he follows Karla behind the Archon.

As he descends he can't help but think of how swiftly the front door's trap had killed the rogue. "May wanna give the dog some distance.' he says.

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

I'm missing something. I thought the zombies came out of the room at the end of the hall on the western edge of the current map. That is the room I thought I was sending the hound archon into, and the door that the zombies had broken through and that had the trap that killed Serras. However, I'm not picky and he has plenty of speed. If the ground floor is clear, he comes back and we head downstairs or upstairs, whichever it is.

You examine the room the zombies came out of.

This dark room smells of rot and old blood. Piles of gore-spattered skin lie heaped on the floor. A horrid rubbery face robbed of its supporting skull and muscle rests on top, its toothless mouth agape and empty eyes revealing only the layer of tan flayed skin resting beneath. Three wooden coffins stand upright on the north wall.

There is a small Taxidermy lab here along with all the tools one would need to skin or stuff animals.

Some gear is stashed in the corner a leather armor and a broken darkwood bow.

There is also a trapdoor in this room.

This covers the first floor. There is little loot to be had here although I will just tell you the leather armor is a +1 leather armor.

For further exploration you can go up or down.

"Down is where evil hides. You're right Zad, I'll give the archon some room."

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

So, does this mean there are stairs going down and up AND the trapdoor going down, or only stairs going up and a trapdoor going down? For the moment, I'm assuming the latter.

"Perhaps grab a plank off that coffin or use the cracked bow to open the trapdoor, Khartelosch? It's certain to be trapped as well. If only I'd been clever enough to prepare an open enclosure spell. Wait! Perhaps I DO have just the thing."

Lord Zohan casts unseen servant and instructs the shapeless force to open the trap door, hoping it isn't locked or stuck. If it is unable to, he'll ask the hound archon to do so.

There are stairs going up and a trapdoor to the basement.

The unseen servant opens the trapdoor revealing a ladder going down to a dark hole in the ground.

"After you..." grins Karla at the archon.

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

The archon's canine visage grins back and it looks down into the dark.

Perc: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Sensing obstacle nor evil nor threat (darkvision, detect evil, scent), it leaps down into the cellar, sword at the ready.

The archon goes down and signal for you to follow.

Below is a surprisingly large chamber 70 feet across and 40 feet from ground to ceiling. You find yourself on a catwalk 20 feet from the bottom.

The catwalk goes all the way around the room and at each corner is a cage.

Three of the cages are empty but the cage in the south-east corner holds three men.

You came in on the west side of the room.

The walls, ceiling, floors and the center of the room are all filled with thick spiderwebs.

You notice a few large spiders here and there in the webs seemingly dormant.

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

"Not spiders! I detest spiders." thinks Lord Zohan as he considers how susceptible he is to various vermin toxins. "Khartelosch, my comrades are going to extricate those three men from that cage somehow. Would you fend off any attacks for a moment while they do so. I'm going to, hopefully, provide a little distraction."

Lord Zohan commands the unseen servant to glide along the spiderwebs from here to the north-west corner and begins to cast summon monster II to bring up 1d3 celestial dire rats to occupy any eight-legged surprises.

"I'm going to leave the task of saving those men to the rest of you, if you don't mind. I don't quite have the stomach for spiders."

"How will we open the cage?" asks Karla flatly.

Any doors out of here?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Magus/7 (Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +5 ; Init +1 ; Perception +0)

In the room with the taxidermy equipment and the flayed skin, Lucan grimaces. "Ogrekin are beasts, but this... this is worse and more brutal than what you usually expect of a hulking beast of the wilds. This is bad."

Downstairs, Lucan will walk over and inspect the three men in the cage. Are any of them awake? If so, he will ask, "Hello, my name is Lucan Arcaranarian. Are you of the Black Arrows? How long have you been down here? Do you know where there is a key to open the cage?"

He'll turn to his left, then to his right; failing to locate his invisible familiar, he says, generally, "Lily, can you look around and see if you can find a key?"

A small voice next to him says, "Sure! A key, to open many things..."

Lily's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

"Yummy! Magic items are my favorite snack."

The Greedy Bag swallows up the +1 leather armor. It sits looking at the broken darkwood bow with an expression of uncertainty on its cloth surface. "Might someone want to repair this thing or is it not worth schlepping around?"

Zadderk looks down the trap door from above before following along. Looking at the cages, he immediately heaves a sigh of relief at the thought that at least 3 people in this hell hole survived. What he doesn't understand is what is with all of these webs? From the safety of the doorway he looks closer, trying to discern exactly what's going on with this room. There aren't any ogres down here, after all, on guard.

Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33

I should also point out to everyone that, upon my next level, I'll be taking a level in rogue to be the trap finder. My perception to find them will likely be 20, so finding them won't be an issue. Disabling them, however... well, Zohan has Summon Monster I for a reason.

As the situation seems to stall, Karla is confronted by the horrid things she saw upstairs and tried to push away through focus and flow of resolve.

What horrors have taken place here!?! These are more cruel than ogres, but how can it be?

She places a hand on the wall to keep her balance as the image of the skull-less head floats in her mind, howling.

How can this be?!

"Someone has the key. Let's go ask for it..." she says darkly as she looks for a door.

Trying to keep as many buffs active... Don't want to end up in the cage!

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

"You might ask Lily to check those three ogrekin we just decimated. I'm speaking of the ones that weren't already undead, of course. No need to keep the key with a zombie... or would they do just that?"

I can see I'll be scribing scrolls of summon monster i.

You summon the rats who get entangled in the webs and the spiders rush to devour them.

Lucan makes his way to the cage, it's made of wood but seems quite sturdy.

He doesn't see any key.

One of the men looks to you. "Yes were black arrows, I am Jakardros the second in command...First now I supposes. Watch out for the big spider it's at the bottom!"

As he speaks you see an enormousness creature making it's way up from the bottom.

"Get out of here! Warn the people of TurtleBack Ferry! The fort has fallen! The town is about to be destroyed!"

3 large spiders and 1 huge spider, they are distracted for now but wont be for long since summon creature vanish when killed and cant be eaten.

"Jakardros you say... Then there's a lady who needs to have a word with you. I bet you don't even know which one!! ...So how do you open this cage..? Let's try it my way before the spiders get bored! Stand clear spider-snacks!" she says, heaving her great sword up and smashing the wood of the cage.

You manage to break open the gate to the cage but the black arrows are also chained to the wall.

Attracted by the noise the largest spider attacks Karla.

Encounter map

Ok so this battle has the challenge that getting into melee is going to be tricky. The spiders are in the web which fills the center of the chamber. they Are suspended 20 feet above the floor.

Let me know if you have a problem with your staring position, I put Shalelu and Zohan in the small hallway which is off the map.

"Chains! Crap! All I've done is open the door so the spiders get y-" she stops short, noticing the fear in the captives' eyes, and spins around, but too late...

Karla's defending plate stops some of the spider's attack, but it's not enough. She feels the venom being pumped through her...

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

"Aaargh!" She yells, as she feels her strength leave her.

She utters a few snarky comments directed probably at the spider or Gorum...

I'm in the threat area of the big one, and if I move, I get stuck in the web... Yeah, it's bad. I thought we had time... ;(

Can we get our Initiative block in the discussion board?

Given the circumstances, Zadderk isn't particularly surprised, and he can now tell why the people were both locked in cages and chained up with no resistance from Ogres. These damn spiders were sitting in here the whole time, and they never came to attack just because they weren't in the webs. He spits, taking a 5 foot step back and loading his crossbow accordingly, not wasting the haste. These weren't people or giants, but they were still big and as a result he saw no issue with filling them full of arrows.

If they have thick webbing concealment, it won't stop my bolts.

Spiders weren't his Forte, and he'd made it a point to aim for the legs, against his better judgement. Not to mention that the surprise of them plunging their fangs into Karla surprised him enough for him to haphazardly place an arrow for the first time in years. All that aside, he was still a profoundly good Crossbowman.

You can move on the catwalk whiteout worrying about the web actually but your right about the treat area. Also no the webs don't give cover against range. The large spiders have about 30 hp but the big one is a real danger with over a hundred.

Male Elf Conjurer 7 (Init -1 | Perc +6 | hp 23/27 | AC 13/9/13 | Saves 3/3/8)

Dang, this is another fine fix we've gotten ourselves into.

Khartelosch, the hound archon, looks at the options and at the spiders to determine if they are normal or fiendish in some way (i.e. evil). It risks the AOO to move up next to Lucan and readies an action to strike the huge spider when it tries to bite him.

just in case: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 dmg: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5) + 3 = 9

Lord Zohan: "If you're up for melee, Andras, I could make you bigger for a while. I also have a flask of acid, if you think that would get through the chains or manacles holding the prisoners."

For this round, however, he sees a need to split the foes, so he casts summon monster ii to call in a lantern archon that will appear next round.

Male Human Vigilante (Faceless Enforcer) 7

By Abadar's grace, these eight-legged freaks are worse than the ogres!
The view of a huge spider draining Karla's strength unsettles Andras, but he tries to stay calm and inflict as much damage as possible. He touches his weapon with his holy symbol, and the bolts immediately set ablaze as they are fired.

"I have to be able to get into melee with them!" Lucan says. He starts casting a spell defensively. He manages to get the spell off while not opening himself up to an attack from the huge spider in front of him. That done, he flies into the air, and moves in closer to melee range with the spider.

(Lucan takes a five-foot "step" -- more of a five-foot flutter -- one square forward, brandishing his sword. He will be able to fly for the next 7 minutes.)

Question for GM: from the previous combat, Lucan would still have 4 charges of Chill Touch left on his sword. Are they still there, or would the spell have dissipated in the intervening time?

Uh oh. Our hound archon friend nods and then winks out of existence in this dimension.

Haste is also over.

Unable to go through the movements of a prayer, for fear of being stabbed or worse, Karla spits on the floor and raises her father's sword behind and above her head, setting her hips opened to be ready to send a great blow at any appendage coming her way: "Come on you bloated flytrap!
