Just so everyone is aware. Tomorrow, just like yesterday I will likely not be able to get online. However it should be the last day that I'm without the internet. I work long shifts from Sunday on and will have access to the internet then for several days and my computer should be repaired or replaced before I have another day off. I'm sincerely sorry for the inconvience and thanks for hanging in there despite the crawl it has put us at over the last couple of days. Things will be back up to speed in only a couple of days time. I'm cross posting this in the other thread as well to make sure that everyone sees it and knows I'm not abandoning the group and that I'll be on regularly again starting Sunday.

I wouldn't mind knowing a bit more about our group members, so in that spirit, here is some stuff about me. Be as specific or as vague as you like.
Age: 30+
Sex: Male
Status: Married w/kid(s)
Location: Alberta, Western Canada (GMT-7)
Occupation: Psychotherapist - (yes, I will analyse you based on your character's behaviour; yes, I do think you're odd)
Gaming Since: The 3rd grade
First Game: TMNT (Palladium)
Favorite Game Style: Heroic and/or epic struggle
Favorite Class: Ranger or Gish (Fighter/caster) type
Sex:
Status:
Location:
Occupation:
Gaming Since:
First Game:
Favorite Game Style:
Favorite Class:
The most basic classic group would then usually be a Fighter, a Wizard, a Rogue, and a Cleric. I thing we cover all the roles, though we do some better than others. We have a lot of Arcane and a lot of healing, which are both great.
Primary roles are in bold.
Fighter: Ansruath and Flit + Gorgoron and Tardek - based on a chance to buff up.
Arcanist: Alyoma and Dehrisan + Tardek
Skills/Traps: Flit + Dehrisan and Tardek - both Int based casters for bonus SP.
Healer: Gorgoron and Dehrisan + Tardek
I was going to ask what we need to do to make sure we are rounded out well enough, but on second thought, I think we are looking pretty good. So far we have felt a bit weak on fighting, but I think that is just because we were caught unprepared in this battle and have so many unarmed/armoured etc. Once people are properly equipped, I think we'll be a lot better off. Of course, if anyone has suggestions on how to improve, this is likely the forum for the suggestions.
Feats:
Scribe Scroll (1st) - best for utility spells - Gorgoron?
Brew Potion (3rd) - Tardek or Dehrisan (both classes have potion stuff)
Craft Wondrous Object (3rd) (mostly defensive/utility objects)
Craft Magical Arms and Armour (5th)
Craft Wand (5th)
I had originally thought of giving Gorgoron Craft Wondrous. I think ideally, each of Gorgoron, Alyoma, Dehrisan, and Tardek would have one feat, which leaves one out, or somebody with two... Thoughts?

Sex: Male
Status: Vehemently single
Location: Tianjin, China (I hail from the US Midwest, though)
Occupation: ESL Teacher
Gaming Since: Got interested in AD&D when I was eleven, started playing 3.0 in high school.
First Game: 3rd edition D&D, though I studied the AD&D core books religiously before I ever started playing.
Favorite Game Style: Role-playing, tactical combat (not statistical monsters), character development, and moral conundrums are all things I enjoy in games. I like to play heroes that are really tested as such.
Favorite Class: Skill monkeys and spellcasters. Traditionally it's been the bard, but recently I've really been getting a kick out of witches and wizards.
As far as item creation feats go, I expect I'll pick one up at either 5th or 7th level. I really want to pick up either toughness or spell focus before I start making stuff.
btw, Gorgoron... If you don't mind my asking (I'm sure you were expecting this) what have you ascertained about us so far, based on our characters?

I do not know the group seems to work pretty well yeah this battle yeah stuff went south but that was because the lay out mostly.

Gorgoron |

btw, Gorgoron... If you don't mind my asking (I'm sure you were expecting this) what have you ascertained about us so far, based on our characters?
I don't think I should tell you until after the guys in white coats arrive.
I jest of course, I'm here to have fun; I make the joke because everyone does ask. A good fantasy life is healthy.

Ansruath |

I know just for note if he keeps this up Ansruath is going to knock him out just for warning do not mean soon just mean eventually when lives of women and children get involved he gets bit yeah. I think the major problem we are having is your character sees the here and now while my character sees problems more into later. If I am wrong sorry but I am seeing it.

Dehrisan |

Ah, quite the contrary. Dherisan is loathe to end a life if he can avoid it because he cannot know what impact that creature may or may not have had in the future. He does not feel he can influence the entire world, so he intervenes when and where he can. He feels that killing these goblins would be a waste, and that if instead they can find and eliminate their leader, they'll go back to their usual goblining around, which might cause a few deaths, but he's a bit of a naturalist, and feels that such is the natural course of the world.

Ansruath |

Sees that is the problems we can go look for the leader but and this is what Ansruath is trying to explain what is stopping A the goblins and B the boss from attacking the town while we are looking for the boss. This is the point he is trying to get across. I understand now what he is thinking but that does not really work when the leader is still working while we are working. Which I guess will not be easy to explain to him is it?

Gorgoron |

I think it's settled now. I personally like a moral discussion here and there, and I think they are necessary, particularly at the formation of a new group, until we adopt a common outlook.

Ansruath |

If he is going to keep doing it will be a problem. To Ansruath nature does not cover up for evil. If they are evil and killing people they need to be stopped. So instead of having an argument every time we have to fight these the goblins. I can change Ansruath though you said had the character idea for a while.

Dehrisan |

Well, I think one reason it devolved to the level it did is that Dherisan's "go grab some loot" idea didn't go quite as he had intended. His intent here was basically "You go over there while we finish off your minions, then we'll talk about who's behind all this." Clearly though, that's not how it went down...

Alyoma |

Or, now that we've regrouped, if the goblins don't get running, we can attack them. They aren't quite as tough now that they're down on the ground.
Of course, I'm hoping that everyone can keep them from killing me if we get into a fight again...
And, as long as we as the group can metagame together, neither Dehrisan or Ansruath have to quit the group. You both know where your characters stand, just avoid pushing each other to the edge.
I would hate to see either of your characters quit.

Ansruath |

I refuse to metagame that is the problem. What I know and what my character know will be different things just how I play the game. Also how the people who showed me the game taught me to play it. The major issue is how our characters see the world and how we want to deal with problems. Ansruath wants to deal with it now so we do not want to have to deal with it later. Dehrisan is all about nature and not screwing that up so he wants to get rid of what is messing with that natural order.

Alyoma |

The reason that I say what I did is because I have seen people play perfectly good characters out of a game because "That isn't what my character would do!"
And most of the time, if that player had just bent a little in his playing of the character, the character would not have had to leave.
Metagaming to do actions that your character would have no way of knowing is one thing, metagaming your actions so as not to wreck the party is something else.

Ansruath |

Yeah the problem is my character has a scar from child hood. To his thinking right now those goblins killing kids parents and ruined theirs homes. They are no better than the men who killed his parents. If he can stop the goblins from doing it again he will. I cannot metagame that away unless I change his back story which I like.

Alyoma |

I wouldn't change his backstory.
On the other hand, the fact you stopped fighting and got in the discussion shows that you aren't mindless about this, and would let them go (if they left soon). Of course, if a fight breaks out...
And I would expect arguments between you character and Dehrisan's about this. But I would not expect to see either of you leave or change your characters because of this.
I guess this is what I see as metagaming between "I must kill evil." and "I want to kill evil."

Alyoma |

I meant that you had stopped combat to discuss the issue, not that you had stopped discussing the issue.
And, from everyone elses comments, if the goblins don't go soon, or try to cause trouble, everyone will attack them.
I'm of two minds about the mini-bio. Not that I'm secretive, but because I'm curious as to what Gorgoron has to say about me just by my writings.

Gorgoron |

Alyoma, the comment in my bio is just a joke. I am a therapist, but I'm not going to be analyzing anyone. I'm not even that kind of therapist. My work actually focuses on substance abuse. As I said a few entries later, I make the joke because everyone does automatically ask when they read what I do. The mini-bio was just meant to be a bit of a 'get to know you' kind of thing, which is why I said be a vague as you like.
Since I know next to nothing about anyone on this forum, any conclusions I came to about anyone would likely be no better than guesses because they lack any context whatsoever about why someone is acting a certain way. Add that to the fact that this is fantasy and role-play, where people are deliberately portraying themselves in a different light, there is an extra layer of information filtering any character actions, which makes any conclusion that much more difficult to reach.
I'm here to play a game and have fun, maybe socialize and get to know a few more people, not do more work.
Besides, I'm a perfect stranger you met on the internet; why should you care what I think about you?

Alyoma |

Sorry. I was sort of hoping that someone was actually doing some sort of study on players and characters. Yes, I do wonder about things like that.

Just so everyone is aware, I'll be heading out soon and will be back tomorrow afternoon/evening (not that specific times of the day mean much with how we are spaced on the globe, eh?) to keep things running. My computer ninja informs that my computer seems to be unfixable, which is unfortunate. Luckily my roommate's family has one that we will be able to start using and borrow. It is old and slow and needs a wireless card, but it'll work until he can afford to replace my notebook. So within the next couple of days I should be fully capable of checking on the thread around the clock again.

Dehrisan |

So this might be a little premature, and I make no promises as yet, but I'm thinking about starting up a Carrion Crown PbP sometime next month. The last PbP I tried to run did, I confess, fall apart, due partially to a sudden commission (which will be finished by the end of June) and partly because of my lack of access to any form of mapping tools (and now I can get around the Great Firewall. Yay proxy servers!) I've been experiencing a resurgent interest in PF though, and I think that with these issues taken care of, I'll be able to focus much more effectively.
I was wondering that if I undertook this endeavor, would any of you have an interest in playing in it? My only word of caution would be that I have had a tendency of late to really take off the gloves when it comes design and description, and given the already dark nature of Carrion Crown, well... It's not going to be a B movie thriller, but it's probably not for the squeamish.

Ansruath |

I would if I can reason I am saying that is because I am in a Online Carrion Crown. I would be fine playing through the AP again. Up to you if you would allow me to. Also I might have a friend who might want to join in if the others do not want to or if you do not want me to.

Dehrisan |

Doesn't sound like it would be problematic. Honestly, it's sometimes nice to have one or two PCs that are familiar with an AP, because they can take initiative in-character to help keep the party on track.
As for your friend, I don't want more than 6 people, and the current players in our game + Ringtail have first priority, but assuming anyone doesn't wish to play, your buddy is next in line.
We've got time though. As I said, this won't be until late June or early July (I got a little mixed up there when I said "next month")

Ansruath |

I figured we got first pick why I said if any of us did not want in or if you did not want me. Well than a lot of reconing will be done because of Ultimate Combat will be done if you allow it around that time. I was thinking of going with this Saurian Shaman I was making but than I noticed the time you put and Ultimate combat comes out around that time.

Dehrisan |

Ah, and as far as rules for this game go, it would be 20 point buy, all 18 base classes open, but no alternative classes (no antipaladins, gunslingers, samurai, or ninjas). PCs would take the maximum possible result for their starting wealth. Non-evil PCs, plox (unless you can do a darned fine job of convincing me you could play a non-disruptive evil PC).
As far as allowed source material, the Core Rulebook, the APG, the Inner Sea Primer, and the Inner Sea World Guide and Ultimate Magic are allowed. If you wish, other supplements might be allowed at my discretion.
PCs, as usual, are allowed two traits. You may naturally select traits from the Carrion Crown Player's Guide, but this is not required. Even if you do not select one of these traits, though, you must include in your backstory how you know Professor Lorimer.

Ansruath |

As for the Saurian Shaman the way I made him he could show up anywhere really to be honest with you. I did a really nice background story for him. He is Ansruath's lost cousin. Question I understand no anti paladins they are evil. I get no gunslingers they uses guns some DMs do not likes guns but why no samurai and ninjas?

Dehrisan |

I'm just still not completely sold on alternative classes. I can kind of understand the gunslinger requiring a base class, but only if you want to encourage heavy use of firearms in a campaign (I love them, personally, but I don't want to see them far outside of Alkenstar). Beyond that, if you want to play a ninja, why can't you just play a rogue? If you want to play a samurai, why not a cavalier or a fighter? It seems that Pathfinder has given us enough customization in classes that you can rub a little bit of flavor into them and make it work for the concept you want to fill, and alternative classes feel like they cheapen that a little.
I could still overlook that, though, to a degree. My primary reason is simply that they have not yet been released in their finished format. It's not simply a new class we're dealing with, but a new class structure (alternative class). I wouldn't be opposed to one (maybe two if they're connected in backstory) oriental themed character in the party - that might be interesting, but I'd really prefer to wait until after the classes are released in Ultimate Combat to put them into practice. If you really want to play a samurai or ninja, make them a cavalier or rogue for now, and we can consider retconning them after the Ultimate Combat is released.

Flitter Whistle |

I'd like to play if you have the space! :) I'm thinking maybe a Summoner, native of Ustalav, making his/her Eidolon a true horror (Can Eidolons rot continuously? :P Hahaha)
