Ringtail's Rise of the Runelords - Chapter 1: Burnt Offerings

The party, along with their newest ally, brave the perils of the Nettlewood in order to face the goblin threat at Thistletop and put an end to the menace once and for all.

Unfortunately we recently lost a great player due to a busy schedule, and we need a new 6th man to round out the team. Character submitted for consideration should be 3rd level (the PCs will be this level soon, by the the time you'll be able to hop in), point built with 15 points, 2 traits, and standard wealth for a 3rd level character (3000 GP). There is currently a two-handed fighter, a cleric, a sorceress, a witch, and a ranger in the group.

The ranger has been having computer problems and we haven't seen him in over a month. We aren't replacing him yet, since we want to give him a while longer to pop back up, but it would be nice to have a replacement ready and waiting in case we should need it.

Recruitment will remain open until a replacement is selected. Feel free to post here with questions. Game thread is found here in case you would like to poke around.

So what you're saying here is that you need a bard? I might be able to do something 'bout that.

How frequent is the posting for this campaign?

We might get the man who made AM BARBARIAN? Sweet. We use to post a lot but than summer ended but we mostly try to post at least once a day.

Yes, we used to post quite rapidly, but everyone's schedule has been slowing them down (though between my jobs I'm probably the worst offender lately, which as the GM is embarrassing to admit- I actually had to excuse myself from a couple of online games as well as table games to open up some free time recently). We do try to get a post in a day each anymore, though sometimes there is a dry day. We'll be picking up the pace again after the end of the month when my next deadline is due. Winter is a slow season for both of my current career choices. A bard would be a solid addition since the skill based characters have gone missing.

Jawsome. I can do once a day no problem. I'll see what I can throw together and put it up here. It'll either be a Bard, or some kind of Sensei Quiggong Monk, depending on my mood at the moment. Your team would go great with a force multiplier, I think.

Ever play through RotRL before?

Nope. I'm GMing jade regent, but I've never touched RoTL except for to copy the floorplan of one optional dungeon for a homebrew game because I'm lazy, and I don't even remember that anymore.

Cool. It is getting to be a rare thing to find someone who hasn't played through or run the AP (something that will get even harder when the aniversary edition is released I am sure).

Probably, yeah... I'll start character creation in a bit--I'll try to have something on your desk by monday at the latest.

Ack! Question! What books are allowed to draw from?

Everything from CRB and APG is good to go. Most things out of UM and UC are fine (I just like to check them on a case by case basis just in case since I'm not overly familiar with the books). Other supplements are usually okay as well, but they are treated just like the UM and UC.

Shadow Lodge

I've got an alchemist I've been itching to play. I'm familiar with the first two adventures of RotRL, but beyond that I only know the summary on the back on the back of the book. I'll sat him up if you'd like. I'd like to use archetypes out of both UM and UC if that's okay (I can live without it if it's not): Vivisectionist and Raging Chemist.

So I decided to make a Bard that follows Shelyn. The Jade Regent AP #2, Night of Frozen Shadows, outlines her faith specifically, and one of the boons her followers (including Bards) can get is the ability to cast Eagle's Splendor as a level 1 spell instead of level 2. Would I be able to use this?

After much thought, a Bard is a better skillmonkey force multiplier than a Sensei. As a result I have created A BARD! I took one of the Sandpoint campaign traits from the back of the APG. (It does mention game sessions; not sure how that'll end up working in a PbP but that I'll leave to GM discretion.) Inner Beauty is a Shelyn faith trait from Faiths of Purity. If either are not allowed, let me know and I'll change them. Tap Inner Beauty under the 1st level spell list is from the Faiths of Purity, it gives a +2 insight bonus on all charisma ability and skill checks for 1 minute/level, the range is personal. If that is not allowed, I can change it as well.

I also assumed average for the HP past level 1 of 4.5. If I'm supposed to round up and take 5 both levels, let me know and I'll update it.

A Brief History:
Lleneth was born in western Varisia, and was raised travelling across the countryside in a caravan of entertainers. As a child, he was constantly surrounded by music, and took to it much as a fish to water. However, a savage raid on his caravan left him the only survivor (Proving once more that birthing or harboring a PC is the leading cause of mortality in Golarion). He drifted alone after that for a time, until he turned up in Sandpoint. He found his way in the town by doing odd jobs and errands for Belor, who took a shine to the hard-lucked boy. He scrimped together enough money to afford a room, and has lived in the town ever since, doing odd jobs and growing increasingly restless.

Personality:
Lleneth is a cordial soul who believes in the inner beauty of all things. A devout follower of Shelyn, he believes in bringing out the inner beauty of others and allowing them to shine. He is a dabbling fashionista, and also a dabbling songwriter and storyteller. He's a friendly person who prefers to talk his way out of trouble if at all possible. He has a sense of adventure, and has always wanted to do something bigger than the series of odd-jobs and errands his life has become.

Random Things:
That spellbook is for scribbling together stories and songs that come to mind while on an adventure or out traveling, or to keep notes of the party's particularly impressive exploits, to retell and possibly embellish later.

Appearance:
Lleneth has tan skin and blonde hair, with violet eyes. His armor is trimmed in a rainbow of colors, going from red through to violet in order. When not suited for battle, he tends to wear loose, colorful, comfortable clothes. He is a pretty, pretty man.

Both archtypes would be fine if you would like to submit a character. I will likely be accepting Trinam first, since he has a suitable character already built. But, like I said, we do have another missing player and may or may not need to round out the party with a replacement for him as well(I'd like to double check with the other players first), so don't worry; there may still be room.

That should be fine. I don't see anything game breaking about getting an ability pumping spell a bit early, especially since the spell will still use up one of the bards precious few spell slots.

** spoiler omitted **...

I like the character a lot and think he will compliment the party well. As far as "sessions" go I'm thinking perhaps once per...I guest they would be called "chapters" (or perhaps "scenes"). Basically, since there are about 3 to 5 sections within any particular book of an AP being able to do so once each sounds about (given the pace it takes to complete one when I run at a table). Alternatively there is the possibility of once per week. Actually, I'm going to split that; once per chapter or week, whichever comes first at any given time.

For HP you can take half of max +1 (just over average) or roll each level if you are feeling luck, your choice made each level as you level (choose before you see the results, obviously). Feel free to head over to the discussion thread and get to know your fellow players if you'd like, and we can get you updated on the what's happened so far in the adventure and work you in soon.

Are you still looking for replacements? If so I'd like to drop my hat in the ring. I'd probably submit a rogue with both the knife master and scout archatypes. If your still looking I'll have my character up in a few hours for your approval.

Ringtail, I hope you don't mind me doing this....

Sorry, Trinam's character has already merged with the group, but if you would like to hang around, we may need another soon (as stated above), depending on whether or not we hear from our ranger again.

No problem. Group's rounded out (for now) so go ahead and poach away.
