Female Human (Rashemi) Witch 1

I'm down.

With Fatty that makes it three so far.

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

I'm definitely still here - school has me beat, but I'll be posting today, for sure.

Male Human

Fatty hasn't written a reply to the thread though. So we've got three, maybe four at least. More than enough I say.

I'm keeping an eye on the thread, please remember you don't need to wait for my updates to converse with each other.

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

I just realized I never leveled up. Well, let me correct that then.

HP: +1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
BAB: +1
+1 to Ref/Will
Gain Combat Casting, lose versatile performance and well-versed.
+1 0-level spell, +1 1st-level spell, +1 1st level spell-per-day.
Choice: Message; Grease

Male Human

I was hoping Oz would have posted, but no dice, I'll put an update up by tomorrow afternoon (my time, its almost 1 am now)

That said, we seem to be slowing down, so lets get some OOC discussion going, What would you like your characters to go do? You've seen cultists and Drow, have a King gone off to Myth Drannor and just became Adventurerers with your own Charter, and this is without the normal gathering info plot search stuff. So I can plan better, and we can keep things rolling, what are some ideas you guys have?

Male Human

Ok, so with this update I'm starting to really worry about this game dying. But it looks like we still have Arikor, Ruhk and Imzel.

I've given hints for ways to do some investigating, you can also go find out info in your own way, though sometimes an OOC note of what you are looking for may help (I'm kind of lost as to what Arikor wants, :p)

If no one has any objections, I'm going to put up an ad for two new players. It's been a week since we came back and I'd like to get the group back to full strength, and get things moving ASAP.

Hey sorry I have been away working. I'll try and catch up asap.

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

Basically, I was doing research in order to officially 'level up', as it may be. That's one goal of doing that, besides finding plot hooks.

I believe we should head for Cormanthor, but I'm biased towards that since it's my favorite region in almost all of Faerun.

Also- on families in Shadowdale - he looks for records of Elminster, of the Lord himself, of Oz (since he's from here), but that's about all I can think of.

Dark Archive

Social Construct of Masculinity Definitely Not Snake People or "Sneople" Archivist Bard 3

Myth Drannor is my vote, if only because of Imzel's goals.

Rennick:
I was just curious, this staff may become Ruhks main tool now, and since it is to handed it sort of makes the sheild part of Ruhks training a bit wasted, might Ruhk switch those feats as aside effect of the new knowledge thing? Also, since he is becomming an Eldrich knight, is it possible the staff might grow as a weapon as well as a magic tool? I imagine it won't be at full strenght now anyway

Ruhk probably won't have a clear opinion himself at this point.

Male Human

Boggbear:

I'll let you retrain it with no XP cost or anything, but I want you to find someone to teach Ruhk how to fight with a staff. The staff will grow as a weapon. Just what that means... I can't say, :p

sorry for the delays, been a busy week. Will have an update for you guys tomorrow.

Female Human (Rashemi) Witch 1

A couple things, re: my posting schedule.

1) It will be sporadic between now and Wednesday. My laptop is being repaired and that means I am bound to the use of my significant other's laptop when it's available or my desktop PC, limiting my flexibility on posting.

2) I will be starting a job Tuesday that is 8-5 PM (CST) without free reign of a computer. All this means is my posts will be in the evening vs. daytime during the week.

Also, should I go ahead and assume time spent communing with my familiar/the land as it were was my level up training? Or do I need to do something more?

Hi i'm one of the new guys here :)

Rennick:
I rather like the idea of him not knowing much about that part of his past so if it's ok with you i'll keep the name and have him born in exile with his family that way you can decide how you want that part of his past to play out (my realms lore gets shakey after 3.5 :)) can you suggest a good place for him to have grown up i'm not sure whats happening in sembia but that would seem the next nearest place Edit: also with his family past i'm interested in the idea Sir kadian was killed by people who recognised Daen's lineage :D

Male Human (Sembian) Rogue 2

Hey folks! Another of the newcomers here. I understand that all you magic types are in need of someone to poke holes in things for you. I hope to fill that niche adequately.

A brief word about my posting habits: I am on the East coast and do 90% of my posting from work. I am a Network Administrator and sometimes things get crazy around here or I need to take a network cluster down for awhile. I have no problem maintaining the 1-2 posts per day specified in the recruitment thread, but every once in a great while you may not hear from me for a day.

Thank you for the invite and I look forward to stabbing things for you all very soon!

EDIT: Oh, Rannick, I assume you looked at my character's languages and whatnot. I took "Thieves' Cant" just to help reflect his formal thieves' guild training, but some GMs don't allow it as a language (since it's a combination of hand signs, body language, and double-entendres). I'll leave it on there unless you have some objection, though I kinda doubt it'll ever get used (but very handy if we ever need to infiltrate a thieves' guild).

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

We do? Last I checked I filled that role pretty good...

But welcome aboard nonetheless. You'll find my oration is very appealing, if not amusing.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Oh, another important note: I don't actually know much about the 4E changes to FR with the Spellplague and everything. I know about the Twilight War in Sembia (and indeed that may have been part of what granted Aleppo the opportunity to escape) and I know that the Spellplague killed off a bunch of big scary NPCs and gods in the setting...

What I don't know is the following:

1.) Did the Spellplague kill off a lot of ordinary people, too? Are we talking about a worldwide epidemic that killed millions here? Or did it only really affect spellcasters?

2.) I listed Aleppo's deities as a combination of Beshaba, Tymora, and Waukeen. I assume all of them are still around and have worshippers? Or are some of them dead now? Despite the fact that Beshaba is generally seen as an "evil" god, Aleppo worships her aspect as the maiden of misfortune and hopes to appease her when he can simply to avoid her ire. Similarly, he thanks Tymora for moments of good fortune and seeks to remain in her favor so that he keeps up his luck. Finally, Waukeen is Waukeen... any Sembian pretty much can't escape the influence of mercantilism and wealth itself is, in Aleppo's eyes, a noble enough goal. Just depends on how you go about getting it.

Male Human

Arikor, you do fill it nicely, but its nice to have another stabber, and this one can open locks! :p

Meanwhile Daen can be stabbed as well as stab.

Welcome to our new Players.

I really want to apologize for being so tardy with my posting these past few days. I'm teaching camp in the morning, filming in the afternoon and evening and going to practice at night. I absolutely promise you will get an update tomorrow (my time, later in the day for most of you)

Again, sorry guys. thanks for understanding.

Yeah, stabbing is all fine and good and I built a more "martial" rogue since you said you wanted martial types... but having a rogue who can at least handle all the "classic thief stuff" is very handy for most campaigns. I intentionally dumped CHA on him because I knew we had a bard already, so I won't be stepping on the Diplomacy/Social skills specialist anytime soon. Traps, locks, and stealth, though, I've got covered in spades!

I like to think of myself more a a stabie rather than a staber or otherwise a mobile wall :D btw when you said max gold was that max for level 1 or the standard 1k for level 2?

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Hm. I notice that you guys don't seem to be using battle grids for combat. While I have no inherent problem with this, I have a trait and a class ability that are rather dependent on things like flanking. Is this going to be an issue? I do have Acrobatics maxed out, so avoiding attacks of opportunity to get into position shouldn't be too difficult, but I'm just wondering how this kind of thing is going to be arbitrated.

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

He most likely meant level 1 equivalent, as we only have so much at this time (not regarding the amount of artefacts amongst us...)

After all, there's only one level where 'max gold' means something. :)

And you're right - I'm not much for opening locks, but I sure can swing a sword! (and hope I hit...)

I noticed some of you have nice things :) but max level 1 gold is fine by me thats what i spent (it's easier to add stuff than choose what to give up) in couple of levels i will have fairly effective healing abilites on top of my melee ones :)

BTW are these characters suposed to be 15 point buy or 20?

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

*bump*

Haven't seen any activity on the game thread in a few days. Just seeing what's up.

I don't know for certain but i think he wants to finish off us newcomers characters before going much futher in game.

Male Human

Sadly nothing so proactive.

My real life unexpectedly swamped me this last week, between work, an Indie film I'm trying to finish before I leave Asia and daily practices for Korean Martial arts, when I lose track of the schedule to tends to really go off the rails.

That said, Saturday now, I'll have an update asap.

And I think we used 20 point buy, but I could be remembering wrong.

Male Human

updates small, but up. still trying to find a spot to fit Aleppo in, but we're back to playing.

Sorry to add to your workload but there is still the matter of our second traits. To save you some work should we look at the others and create a few ideas for you?

As to the update i love it :D seems like a great way to bring me in.

Male Human

No worries about the traits, I enjoy making up stuff like that, I'll have one or two options for each of you, probably by tomorrow, before the next update for sure.

As to fitting Aleppo could he have been the one to drag me to shadowdale?

Male Human

I like it! I think that's exactly what's going to have happened.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Hey Rennick: Do you treat the spoken language of the Drow as it's own thing? Or is it just a dialect of Elven? I ask because I wanted one of Aleppo's supervisors in the Night Knives to have been a drow... and that's where he learned Elven and Undercommon from in his language list. If the drow language is it's own thing, though, he would've learned that instead of elven. His version of "thieves' cant" is also very likely inspired by the drow sign-language as a result, but probably not identical.

Male Human

It would be a separate language with similar dialects, similar to how someone who speaks French or Spanish can pick out words and probably piece together enough to understand most of what's being said. but the two languages are different.

campaign traits on the way,

Okay, I will change it to Drow, then, instead of Elven.

No pressure Rennick but we're still waiting on the traits :D

I hope my start was ok with a wisdom like his i tend to think he would be rather impetuous and easily distracted.

Male Human

Waiting a night to see if Imzel's around, worried we may have lost another PC.

Will also make sure to sit down and work out traits for Daen and Allepo, sorry for the delays, I'm insanely busy right now.

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

I'ma lso sorry for my erratic posting lately. I've been swamped with homework (like this weekend, I have 230+ math problems + a take-home quiz, due Tuesday!) so I'm doing what I can to post more often.

Male Human

Traits for our two new players. I'm sure you can figure out which one is for who. Admittedly these are both a bit beefier than the first round's... but it's a double edged sword this time.

A knife in the Dark - For years you've seen The darkness that lies in men's hearts... and just how powerful a tool that this can be. Years above back alley dealings, tavern room strong arms, nobles left dead in their own solars and other "messages" have given you skills few others have. Gain a +1 to Stealth and a +1 to intimidation skills. Also receive a +5 bonus to intimidation checks when claiming membership in the Night Knives, (But face the consequences of such actions)

How far does the apple fall? You are a Cormaeril. A Family of nobility, wealth, prestige and most importantly, power. One of Cormyr's oldest families; yours is the blood of Kings and Kingmakers. Your family tree revered by all around, at least until many of your kin attempted a political coup and Regicide. With your lands stripped and the majority of your family exiled from the Kingdom, your name still holds sway among many of the nobles within Cormyr and other lands as well. The only problem is if they will see you as latest in a long line of proud nobility, or as traitorous filth to be washed clean of? Because of this you may voluntarily add the benefit of this trait to any social check involving nobility. The check may be a +5 or a -5. DM's discretion.

Male Human (Sembian) Rogue 2

Well, with my 8 CHA and 0 ranks in Intimidate... I suppose a +1 to Stealth is cool.

Male Human

Honestly I didn't tailor any of the campaign traits to how people built the character they're playing. All of them were written as something I could see developing from each character's backstory and gives a nod towards that. They may be really helpful sometimes, or sometimes they're pretty useless. But just because you don't plan on intimidating right now, doesn't mean you won't ever need to.

I just note a pretty stark divide on the effectiveness of the traits, is all. Ruhk gets +2 to two of his main ability scores for his "trait," and someone else got a free +1 frost weapon to start. I'm fine with it, though, but I honestly don't ever expect this character to use Intimidate. He's just not good at it, even WITH the trait. He wasn't a bruiser/kneebreaker type, he was a spy, thief, and assassin. Handling the threats and extortion was someone else's job.

Male Human

Alright, give me some time to think it over and I'll see what I can come up with to better suit your concept.

wouldn't you like to know! Dungeonisius Masterius Evil Genius/9999999999999999

And this is my DM notice for Imzel, Need you to either show me your still alive or your character will be walked off stage and I'll find another player.

(People with legit reasons for extended absences will be welcome back of course as long as the game permits.)

Visually and thematically speaking, Aleppo's attire and weaponry is very similar to Ezio from Assassin's Creed II.

Aleppo keeps his daggers concealed within the sleeves of his tunic, but they can be drawn as an immediate action thanks to the spring-loaded sheathes. Unlike Ezio, they actually spring into his hands, they aren't attached to his wrists while he fights... and they aren't retractable. Re-sheathing them requires some effort.

However, it does serve him well to appear as an unarmed wanderer when needed. He keeps the darts in a bandoleer across his chest, but his cloak can be closed over them to conceal those as well.

Just thought I'd provide a bit of description for a better visual aid. :)

Male Human

Sorry for the misrepresentation, your profile is missing your background and your appearance, so I had to guess in a couple spots.

and I love AC, so much.

Ah, my mistake. I thought I'd included those. I'll get something in there later today.

Male Moon elf Bard (Arcane Duelist) 2

Sorry that I haven't posted in a few days - college decided to overload my entire weekend, on top of giving us an extra day of class to go to this week.

I'll be back in my normal posting order and so forth soon, probably by tomorrow or the next day - though I thought we agreed to travel at night... Oh well! Onwards!

I kinda have to agree on the traits thing mine is a penalty really as it either makes me better at what i am already good at or cripples me i love the idea that nobles will either see my heritage as good or bad thing but to give that as the only thing and then make it my choice to use it seems odd.

If i could have my choice i'd make the modifier manditory but as a bonus maybe let me get skill points like an aristocrat npc class :D in place of the usual paladin.

Male Human

Man, everyone's a critic! alright I'll rework yours as well. Next time's final though.

and no worries Arikor. life can be hectic, I get it.

Hey don't get me wrong if you said suckit or leave i'd still keep playing :D just thought you should have my honest thoughts about it.

BTW: would you like me to drop you an e-mail on the earlier adresses so you have another point of contact incase you need it?
