Checking his rope attachment to the Mouse, he follows Trevor out the door.

![]() |

it looks like the only door is the one in the main rooms, so i guess that's the one we will use.

Keith S. |

You leave the hospital, and work your way through the living area to the door to the courtyard. No one tries to stop you, but you do get a few odd looks.
You open the door and step through. Dense, sour mist fills this spacious courtyard. Eddies in the mist form phantom shapes among the shadows of bent trees and wilted foliage.
A cobblestone path winds through the yellow fog.
(who leads, who has the rear?)

Keith S. |

Is everyone tied together as JP suggested? Or ????

Keith S. |

The three of you move across the courtyard. In some areas, yellow mist swirls and forms unsettling half shapes. In others, it hangs in the air in wisps, forcing you to move through it.
You hear some cackling shouts and screams from somewhere ahead of you ... ending in a gibbering sob.
Overhead, for a moment, the beat of heavy wings.
Trevor is in front, the party is tied together ---- who is in the middle and who is in the rear?

![]() |

Actually we are tied in twos. We can have Mouse in rear as last time. Trevor in front with Dr.

Keith S. |

Tied in twos is hard when there is only three of you.
Per the discussion tab on how to proceed.

Keith S. |

You move through the eerie mist, staying on the cobblestone path (let me know if you stray from the path). It winds and twists in the fog.
With a THUMP a body falls out of the mist and lands on the ground next to the cobblestone with a SPLAT. You hear two wingbeats from overhead.
Any special actions or do you move along the path as before? You are, perhaps, halfway across the courtyard.

![]() |

"Let's keep moving,"" grabbing the body by the collar and continuing on.

Keith S. |

The body is dressed in stained clothes that look to originally be white. You think perhaps an orderly, or nurse? When Trevor rolls the body over, he sees that the body cavity has been opened up, and the soft internal organs removed. Something sharp did this if this was Delta Green, you would be rolling SAN right now!
As everyone is staring at the body, you are surprised by the creature flying down from above. As no one answered the earlier question about who is tied to who, I will go with all three of you tied together.
A tall, ebon creature with batlike wings and a long prehensile tail swoops down on you out of the fog. But the most disturbing feature is its lack of a face!
tail attack 1 is Trevor, 2 is Lazare, 3 is JP 1d3 ⇒ 1, and Trevor is the target.
grapple with tail: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27, and Trevor is grappled! He is also tickled by the tail, and needs to make a DC14 fortitude check or be nauseated from the tickle, being unable to do anything but make a move action (while grappled).
The things razor sharp claws go snick, snick, and the rope is cut between Trevor and Lazare!
Players may go. It's AC18. Trevor is grappled and needs a saving throw. Its CMB is +17 in grapple, and CMD is 22.

I like to pause occasionally to give Dr G a chance
Shaking his head, he aims the pistol at the faceless horror.
Swift action divine favor, this might be +1 more but its touch, so I don't think it matters
pistol, in melee, divine favor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Keith S. |

Trevor is wrapped up by the tail, but the tip still manages to sneak under his arm and tickles him mercilessly! So bad that he is nauseated and unable to do much at all! (other than a single move action)
JP puts a solid round into the creature, which flinches with the hit.
It's wings flutter and flap - you note that it is not actually touching the ground, and has lifted Trevor off the ground - so it is a strong flyer!
Lazare is up!

![]() |

Do I get back the pistol I loaned to the Dr? If so, I'll put this one away and draw the other as a move.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Keith S. |

I think that the Mouser can do his mouser thing.
The creature is, in fact, flying, but its feet are mere inches from the ground.
I would even allow Lazare a chance to jump on his back and do his mouser thing while hanging on - but he runs the risk of being on his back if it flies off.
To jump on his back, perhaps a grapple check vs. a CMD of 22.
If he fails, he stays on the ground but in the creature's square.

![]() |

Lazare tries to scratchthe bottom of the flying monster Ayaie! screaming like a while halfling banshee.
5' step action, no actual grappling or anything crazy, yet.
Attack, Mouser, Flanking, Magical: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26
Dagger Damage: 1d3 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + (5, 6) = 12

Keith S. |

Wow, another solid hit! The thing is rocked!
It flies straight up 40 feet, and then drops Trevor! (Lazare gets a free AAO as it moves out of his range)
falling damage for Trevor: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 4) = 20
Trevor can make a grapple check to try to hang on to the tail (if he wants) against a CMD of 22.
If he wants to fall, he takes the falling damage above.
Of course, if he hangs on, he may be flown off into the mist on tail of the tickler.
The player's are up! The mist is giving it a +2 cover bonus to its AC
(making its AC 20 where it is now).

Keith S. |

Well, on the bright side, he is not nauseated and he landed right next to his hammer.

![]() |

The Lord of Cats lets loose with a parting shot, "And stay out!"
pistol, divine favor: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 141d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

![]() |

Moving to his friend, he asks for Bast's blessing on this unbeliever.
Next round stabilize spell then inject him with CLW

Keith S. |

Note that the thing is NOT flying off...it just flew up to drop Trevor; you are still in combat time; JP thinks it will be swooping back down.
Trevor still gets a move and action for his turn; he fell on the flyer's turn.
Same with JP (if he wants to change what he does) and Lazare.
Still in combat time.

Trevor Culexis |

Just noticed this on my sheet
Talisman of Healing Power: These talismans are inscribed with the names and symbols of spirits and other figures associated with healing. The first time that the wearer is reduced to fewer than 1/2 his maximum hit points, he automatically heals 4d8+7 hit points. Moderate conjuration; CL 7th; cure critical wounds.
Heal: 4d8 + 7 ⇒ (6, 7, 1, 8) + 7 = 29
Does this crumble after healing?
Trevor grabs his hammer and stands.

![]() |

Did I hit it with that 14 touch?
Seeing that Trevor is ok, he readies his musket for another shot.

Keith S. |

The shot hits the beast. However, it is a full round action to load a musket, and you took a shot (attack earlier). You still get a move action though.
@ Trevor - you are correct that the magic is discharged and the Talisman crumbles. But he bounces back to his feet, brandishing his hammer, and is untouched.
Lazare needs to make an AOO for the thing moving away (flying up) and then take his normal round.

![]() |

I've got 2 pistols and that is all i fired. I had slung my musket before we went outside.

![]() |

As the winged monster tries to fly off, Lazare lashes out at the beast trying to continue prevent it from taking off with Trevor.
AoO: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27 Damage: 1d3 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + (5, 4) = 10
Any idea what this crazy thing is? Something that can survive in this midst is definitely a concern!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 2 = 13

Keith S. |

Your shots and parting shot damages the creature severly! It re-evaluates its position, and its wings beat strongly, lifting it out of sight into the yellow mist.
The heavy wingbeats fade away.
An eerie quiet returns again to the courtyard.

![]() |

"Agreed. But at least we have a pretty good idea that it can be killed."

Keith S. |

There are two doors (circled in red on the map, which should be updated soon ish).
How do you approach?

![]() |

"We will need to stop to reload once we are safely inside."

Keith S. |

As Trevor approaches the door, he notes that there are openings where windows used to be, and bars over those openings as well.
He can easily see inside, and he spots 3 figures watching him, then they dart to the side, out of line of fire.
He thinks there were ghouls.
He tries the door but it is locked.
So - ghouls inside the door. They know you are here.
What do you do? Take a round to reload your weapons? Use Trevor's big hammer on the door?

Trevor Culexis |

I see you in there! He turns to the others. It looks like there are three ghouls in there. They got out of the line of fire and the door is locked. You guys reload your guns while I cover with my hammer, Lazare, can you pick the lock?

![]() |

Placing his back to the wall, he reloads both pistols.
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

Aye, Trevor but the fog and the threat of ghouls will likely make my hands shake a bit. But I can give it a try before you use your force to turn this nice door into a pile of timber.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Lazare feels like he has done this before, but strangely he can't recall why or how.

Keith S. |

Nothing stoops out of the fog at you guys, so that is good.
Lazare easily unlocks the door.
No ghouls can be seen through the door at this time.
