Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The doll gratefully accepts Einar's food and then begins to recite her tale.

"Vasilla zhila so svoyey machekhoy i sestrami-shagami,
Oni byli takimi zhe zlymi, kak mogli.
Odnazhdy yeye machekha poprosila yeye prinesti ogon' iz Baby Yagi,
Znaya, kakova budet yeye sud'ba.
Baba Yaga skazal, chto yesli by dve zadachi, kotoryye mogla sdelat' Vasilla,
Togda ona dast yey ogon',

Iz zadach ya pomog Vasil'ye,
Iz zadach bylo tri.

Zatem ya vzyal polovinu semyan maka i ochistil ikh odin za drugim.
I eto bylo vse, chto Baba Yaga prikazal Vasilise.

Togda my ostavili khizhinu Baby Yagi,
S nashimi serdtsami neskol'ko oblegchilos'.
I po doroge my puteshestvovali,
Poka my ne dostigli drugogo doma.
Vasil ostalsya so starukhoy, kotoraya byla sovsem odna.

V blagodarnost' za gostepriimstvo,

Vse zhe yeye nit' byla nastol'ko prekrasna,
Etot kadr ne mozhet soderzhat' etu stroku.
YA postroil yey kadr na noch'
I ona spletala svoye bel'ye v samyy raz.

Bel'ye tsaryu ona prodala,
Kto yeye poprosil za yeye ruku
I ona poyekhala s nim,
So mnoy v karmane do kontsa.

No chto iz Baby Yagi, s kotoroy ona sorvalas'?
Baba-Yaga ne byla khoroshim neudachnikom, ona khotela plot' Vasilly.
Baba Yaga raskopala svoyu mogilu i nashla Vasiliyu vne yeye dosyagayemosti,

Ona vernula menya k svoyey Khizhine,

Togda ona zastryala menya zdes', muchaya menya den' i noch'
Potomu chto ya zastavil yeye poteryat' to, chto bylo v yeye glazakh."

Russian:

Vasilla lived with her step mother and step sisters,
Who were as wicked as they could be.
One day her stepmother asked her to fetch fire from Baba Yaga,
Knowing what her fate would be.
Baba Yaga said that if two tasks Vasilla could do,
Then she would give her the fire,
And let her leave free back to her home too.

Of tasks I helped Vasilla,
Of tasks there were three.
First I helped Vasilla take a quarter of a measure of wheat from Baba Yaga’s storehouse and picked out all of it from black grains and wild pea.
Then I took a half-measure of poppy seeds and cleaned them one by one.
And that was all of what Baba Yaga had bade Vasilla to have done.

Then we left Baba Yaga’s hut,
With our hearts lightened somewhat.
And upon the road we travelled,
Until we reached another home.
Vasilla stayed with the old woman there, who was all alone.

In thanks for her hospitality,
Vasilla begin to weave.
Yet her thread was so fine,
That no frame could hold that line.
I built her a frame overnight
And she wove her linen just right.

The linen to a Tsar she sold,
Who asked her for her hand
So she rode off with him,
With me in her pocket untill the end.

But what of Baba Yaga whom she thwarted?
Baba Yaga was not a good loser, for Vasilla’s flesh she wanted.
Baba Yaga dug up her grave, and finding Vasilla out of her reach,
Took me out of her pocket while giving a horrible screech.
She brought me to back to her Hut,
Then slammed the door right shut.
Then she stuck me here, tormenting me day and night
For I had caused her to lose what was in her sight.

Abbreviated from the whole story here - with some alterations of course.

Vasilla's doll must be given a small amount of food and drink to activate. The doll can only animate once per day for up to 8 hours. During this period, the hardworking doll can perform tasks equivalent to two people, and gives a +2 circumstance bonus to any craft check(including making magical items) made during the period. The doll is assumed to have the relevant item creation feat necessary to assist.

Consider it a watered down version of someone with Cooperative crafting feat

Any preparations first? I told you you'd all be eating candy, under suggestion...unless you LIKE eating poisoned candy?

Vasilla's doll casts heroism(30min) on Einar, in thanks for her rescue.

"Before we go any further, I could use some healing."

How about climbing into one of the coffins to get to A7?

If we go through the fireplace again, Mr. Whiskers will use his scroll of Protection from Evil on Crummock so Crummock can take care of the candy. He will also ask for a Resist Energy (Fire) before going through the fireplace -- if no one else will provide it he will burn another of his scrolls to do it himself.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

I take it Crummock goes in alone/with Geist to cast dispel magic on the magic trap, if going into A2?

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Yeah, I think I like your plan of going to A7 better...

The party crawls out of a coffin into a roomful of them.

Rows of wooden coffins lean against the thick timber walls of this room, with dozens more lying stacked and scattered on the floor. A dusty fireplace sits to the south, and a stout ironbound door stands in the eastern wall.

The grimy windows and look out over the hut’s exterior surroundings, providing a view of a snowy hilltop overlooking a burned and ruined village next to a wide, ice-choked river. A cracked clay bowl with a brown hen’s egg inside sits on a table against the western wall.

A lit fireplace leads somewhere else(A5).

A skeletal figure dressed in strange dark robes and crowned with a tall fur hat slumps in a dusty chair in front of the room’s door. He is seated behind a dry-rotted coffin, grasping a crooked scythe in one hand and a deck of cards in the other. Several cards are dealt on the coffin lid before him. He sighs heavily when he sees the party emerge from the coffin, then gestures for them to sit on one of many coffins around the room.

"I am the Coffin Man, and I am Baba Yaga's cousin." He introduces himself to the party.

Mr Whiskers knowledge planes: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (2) + 23 = 25

Yeah Mr Whiskers can't remember what the heck is this thing.

Retired to Triaxius

’An interesting story, a guardian for a little girl, how odd, the second guardian for a little girl I’ve met, I wonder how Mierul and Thora are doing.’’ After hearing the dolls tale, Einar offers her some water from the not-turned ceramic container. Smiling, looking at Crummock he tells her. ”You can stay with us, we know a little girl. If we get back to where she is we may be able to arrange for you to stay with her, isn’t that right Crummock?” Receiving the dolls blessing ’heroism’ Einar rest her on his pack. ”if you get tired or we get into a dangerous situation, you climb in the pack.”

Realizing the group had agreed on the coffin Einar climbs in and out of the coffin, seeing the room full, he gives a quick count. ’At least eighteen, well at least they weren’t planning on exactly us or they would have stopped at five.’ Seeing the skeletal figure it the fur hat, Einar touches his own, then smiles a toothy smile, ’Nice hat.” As he takes a seat on one of the coffins he asks ”Coffin man, that sounds more like a title, do you have a name, or a story, or an explanation to where that door behind you goes?”

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The doll happily hides in Einar's pack and doesn't come out.

"I am the Coffin Man." He answers with a tone of finality. Then he chuckles, a nasty sound. "The door behind leads to a world gripped by war, in a frozen country stillborn in bloody revolution. I guard the gate."

"And I see you're missing your shadows."He taunts the party.

Retired to Triaxius

'Guard the gate.' Einar shifts on the coffin, so both his sword and hammer are readily available. "Many worlds are gripped by war. The country we were in, not so long ago, was gripped in it's own revolution. That is why we are here, to free Baba Yaga. If you are truly her cousin, this will affect you, either for good or bad. But you guard the gate. Tell me, do you guard if from those who would leave his place or from those who would enter it?"

Heightened Awareness, so the knowledge check is 27. Probably doesn't matter.

Mr. Whiskers looks for a 'seat' of the proper size.

"I am called Mr. Whiskers." He gives a small, polite nod. After taking a seat, he says "If you choose to tell us a story, could it be about Baba Yaga's son? It seems he is somehow involved in the current situation."

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"Both, Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson, both. I care not if Baba Yaga is freed or not, for I have been asked as a favour by Baba Yaga herself, to ensure that nothing goes, nor comes through that door." He answers.

"But since its a favour...well, that could be negotiated. If you amuse me." He watches Einar like a cat might watch a mouse.

Missing my shadow?

Mr. Whiskers looks around, not having realized his shadow was gone. Must have happened with those shadow demons that manifested! Now how am I supposed to get my shadow back? Most very inconvenient.

As a player, I hadn't realized they were missing until Coffin Man said something. Yes, you said they manifested from us. That didn't suggest to me that my original shadow was gone.

Missed it, obviously.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The Coffin Man answers Mr Whiskers as if he was but a dispassionate observer of events.

"Oh, Baba Yaga's murdered but living son, Rasputin the mad monk. Killed for strange powers that he possess in a world that rejects mysticism. In a world that magic has long fled. She abandoned him, you know? Left him on the doorstep in Pokrovskoye, to be raised as a human, he whose blood was more then mortal. "

"He dreamt of Queen Elvana, his sister separated by the vastness of stars, for the ties of blood are truly thicker then water. She, on her side of the bargain, taught her of his true heritage and magical power. Of that he had the blood of the Great Crone within him. He was fueled with resentment, for what Baba Yaga had done to him. He was so far above mortals, yet why should he be cast down among them to live their miserable lives?"

"So the brother and sister pair plotted together, to lure Baba Yaga to this place, Earth, where they laid a cunning trap of magic and technology unheard off in Golarion to drain off her power, so that he might ascend. Queen Elvana would get Baba Yaga out of the way, and him, Rasputin, would become a god in truth."

Knowledge 27 doesn't QUITE cut it :(

Retired to Triaxius

'So we will find the great hag here, well we may as well get to it, once I settle a score with my shadow.' Smiling, as if to a private joke, Einar nods to the cousin, "I am impressed, when most say my name they leave out the title 'kinslayer.' It generally make the speaker uncomfortable to look me in the eye to say it, but not you eh. Thank you for the information. You say things are up for negotiation if you are amused, what kind of amusement are you looking for, I find myself already in more debt than I prefer."

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"Rasputin has used strange machines to call Baba Yaga's thrice-tenth Kingdom to this world, and attempts to claim Baba Yaga's cold throne with the aid of long-slumbering evils and an army bristling with strange weapons, of likes you have not seen before. Do not underestimate him, for he is an ambitious, dangerous man, on the verge of becoming a god." The Coffin Man continues.

"Oh. There's nothing to be uncomfortable of. Death in its many forms is perfectly natural, and nothing repulsive." He gestures at the empty coffins. "I would be happy to host you in one of these, should there be a need." He gives a snigger, "As you can see, there's tons of space."

"Amusement...well we could play a game of cards." He gives a nasty grin. "You win, you get to walk out of here, and follow the path of your shadows."

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Crummock immediately decides that gambling with the devil is NOT a good idea, and politely asks him to move off.

Crummock can easily make the diplo check, I don't see any reason why I should delay you.

Impressed by Crummock's silver tongue, the Coffin Man opens an empty coffin, revealing a flame tongue sword, a sword of the planes, four elixirs of hiding, 4 potions of good hope, a scroll of chain lightning, a scroll of iron body, a scroll of mage's sword, a scroll of mass hold person, a scroll of reincarnate, a scroll of wall of stone, and 3000 gp."To assist you in rescuing Baba Yaga."

He then waves the party towards the door, "You may freely follow the path of your shadows."

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Should you decide to leave the Hut - describe in detail what you'd want to do

Looking out of the windows, the party sees a devastated village, burnt to the ground. The churned mud, black piles of charred timber, and splashes of bright crimson blood among the ruins contrast with the heavy white snowdrifts blanketing the ground. Crummock, Seraphine and Einar have a feeling that the village may not be as deserted as it appears to be...

Mr. Whiskers frowns at the words 'no magic', obviously uncomfortable with the concept.

"So this world is a desolate wasteland, all the magic expended?" He looks past Coffin Man, out the window. "There is a small area on our own world that is supposed to be like that. Two mages battled, leaving behind the Mana Wastes. I've only read of them, but it sounded horrible."

Technology tends to be very unreliable, so dismantling that shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Taking care of the magic is a different matter though, especially if the way it works is different than what I was taught.

...and with that I'm off to bed. See you later!

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"Oh - Magic is there. It's just no one believes in magic anymore. Not when technology is so much more reliable." The Coffin Man answers.

Retired to Triaxius

’I’ll have no coffin especially from this one.’ Happy with Crummock’s flowery words, Einar stands from the coffin, shaking his head. ”Death in all it’s forms? You’ve obviously not walked Pharsma’s cobblestone and had to listen to Mierul’s yammering. But I will look at those two swords.”

Einar quickly drops the bag of money into his Haversack, he then pass out the scrolls and vials. Leaving the two swords, he hefts them, one in each hand, passing the flame tongue sword to Greta and tucking the sword of planes in his belt. ”Follow our shadows? So they managed to leave beyond your door? Some guardian.” turning to the others, he asks. "Leave now or after we prepare.” Looking from one to the other smiling. ’and by prepare I mean see what other riches this place may give before we return it to the hag, I’m sure Mr. Z can get us a good price for those little fairy men.

Edit: My logic with the swords, is this will give Greta a fairly affective one shot range attack, while Einar still has the hammer.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"They gave me your names. It was a fair exchange." The Coffin Man gives Einar a chilling smile. "Oh, I've walked those paths longer then you could ever imagine. Mierul...servant of Pharasma. Pesky buggers. Always interfering with our rightful business, I'd say."

Mr. Whiskers is unconcerned with the talk of gods and who has walked what path.

Looking to Einar, he says "Some preparation time would be good. Wait to go out there until tomorrow?"

Mr. Whiskers then turns to Coffin Man and asks "What can you tell me of the world out there? The last world didn't have any members of my race, and it occurs to me the same may be the case here."

Gnome, halfling, wayang. I wonder what races are common here?

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"No Ratfolk. This world is populated solely by humans. And it is a world where technology has taken the place of magic." The Coffin Man answers.

So what are the plans? Candy Room? Bribe little Otik with food so he lets you pass to the other passage?

Or just zz?

"Only humans?" Mr. Whiskers squeaks in surprise. "That will certainly make blending in challenging..." I don't think I've any spells that will last very long which will allow me to pass for human. Outdoors I could bundle up enough to perhaps pass for a child, but as soon as the cloak comes off it would be pretty obvious that I'm not human.

Hesitantly, Mr. Whiskers asks "Did the humans kill off all the other races?"

Edit to add: I would say our next steps should be candy room, then feed Otik the purified candy.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"Well, there were dinosaurs, then there was this meteor strike, and a great ice age. For their size, their souls were rather stringy. Then came the age of mammals, some of them begin to walk on two legs, the homo erectus, that evolved into homo sapiens, which we call humans. There were no other sentient races to begin with." The Coffin Man answers. "Humans at the best of times don't even get along well with each other. Everytime tribes of humans bearing different flags meet each other, it generally devolves into conflict where they try to kill each other."

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The party backtracks to the room with the golden birdcages. The domovoi stare blankly into space, ignoring the party.

Crummmock and Geist enter the room, after Crummock has protection from evil casted on him. The trap triggers, but Crummock and Geist are unaffected.

Geist due to the language dependent clause.

Two lanky hummanoids dressed in a long dark coat and a tall hat slide down from the licorice curtains and glare at Crummock and Geist, seeing them unaffected by the trap.

One of them casts Crushing despair on Crummock and Geist.

Crummock will save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Both of them feel great despair as the spell washes over them.

The other shrouds the room in darkness. Darkness spell

Then both of them fire their Quickened Phantasmal Killer Spells at Crummock and Geist.

Crummock Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Crummock Fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Crummock and Geist both see an apparition reaching for their hearts and ripping it out of their chests. Crummmock manages to stop that apparition from pulling out his heart. Geist, unfortunately, does not, and dies of a heart attack.

Mr Whiskers recognizes them as Boogeymen. They have the following spell like abilities:

Constant—detect thoughts, tongues

3/day—crushing despair, hold person, quickened phantasmal killer
1/day—nightmare

And they have DR 15/cold iron.

Unless they start fooling around with quickened spells, or cast defensively.

You can cast a quickened spell (see the Quicken Spell metamagic feat), or any spell whose casting time is designated as a free or swift action, as a swift action. Only one such spell can be cast in any round, and such spells don’t count toward your normal limit of one spell per round. Casting a spell as a swift action doesn’t incur an attack of opportunity.

Sure, we can lead with that next time, or alternatively I have Resist Energy for anyone that wants to fight in melee.

I think though, that when the party all goes as one, then Mort resolves action as in, first in, first served, which means that I usually post after we have entered melee and therefore delay to avoid Friendly Fire.

I don't mind delaying though, Einar is going to outclass anything I do for single target damage, I'm better suited against multiple opponents when I can get the damage + possible stun lock on most of them.

Yes you could do that - problem was they stayed in hiding so until someone walked in, you'd see no one. I have no issues with putting on buffs in the hut and all that - point is I never saw it done.

Geist will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Crummock and Geist see shifting hazes of images coming from both Bogeyman, and are shaken. Einar badger, of course, doesn't care.

Using this

Deepest Fear (Su) A bogeyman is cloaked in a 30-foot aura of fear. This aura manifests as a shifting haze of images that reflect the viewer’s deepest fears. The first time it ends its turn within the aura, a creature must make a Will save or become shaken for as long as it stays within the aura. If the creature succeeds at the saving throw, it cannot be affected again by the aura for another 24 hours. This is a fear effect. The DC is Charisma-based.
The one next to Crummock takes a step back.

The wounds on the bogeymen begin to heal.

Concentration check for more crushing despair v DC 23: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20

It does not manage to get the spell off. Then it fires a Quickened Phantasmal Killer at Crummock, for ruining its work on Geist.

The other also fires a quickened Phantasmal Killer spell on Crummock.

Crummock Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Crummock Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Crummock manages to fight off the Phantasm that is trying to pull his heart out.

Then it turns invisible, and moves away from Einar.

Party up, blue border one is invisible. Mr Whiskers can see him fine, though.

Seraphine, seeing perfectly in the darkness, immediately casts Invisibility Purge/

Everything in 65 feet has its invisibility countered.

EDIT

Nevermind Trixians don't even get dark vision. Man what a terribly designed race. So, I don't see the creature, but my Invisibility Purge will make it visible to everyone else that has darkvision.

Greta moves into the room, then breaths a cone of frost at it.

The boogeyman seems to have avoided the worst of it.

Mr. Whiskers decides to haste the people in the room, hopefully allowing them to finish the fight that much faster.

I don't think I can quite get everyone within 30', so everyone except Crummock.

edited for haste
'I wonder how bad of shape they are in,' paying attention with the new spectacles, Einar tries to determine how injured the two fay are, telling the others what he sees. He then steps south and thrusts the glaive at the fairy he had attacked earlier.

Haste pls. And cover for hitting over Greta. Before your attacks they are fighting off death(>4hp)

The second attack misses, as Einar has to turn his blade not to hit Greta, but Einar makes short work of the southern boogeyman with the rest of his strikes, then stabs the one over in the north east.

how alive is the one in the north east corner? Glasses
