Well, let's avoid the barracks.

If the other building just has a weird polar bear in it, I see no reason to bust in.

I guess we should take a look at the (strange) corner towers, before moving on to the 'inner' part of the camp...?

Retired to Triaxius

that works for me, do you want to call it or do you want me to?

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Its more like the polar bear is blocking your view so you can't see anything more - remember the part about the bear hunter?

Male Bleachling (Gnome) Oracle (Spirit Guide) 18 (HP 219+5/219+5) (AC 49/27/38) (CMD 24) (Fort +17, Ref +25, Will +17) (Init +2) (Perception+32)

Yeah, but at present, we have no reason to think that the bear hunter is anything but a minion... so I still say we should move on...

1d2 ⇒ 1

...to the south-east corner tower.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

C3

A tall watchtower standing on rusted iron pylons stabs upward into the air like a deranged skeleton, its apex topped with a curiously levitating torus dancing with sparks of arcane energy.

Working on the assumption that you're suited up/those going in view of the Russians are suited up.

Einar, Crummock and Dimitri head up the tower. In the tower itself there are 4 russians. Two of them are behind some sort of screens with a machine guns attached to it, and the other two are carrying rifles. They seem to be guarding a strange control panel.

One of them hails Einar boredly, "Yeshche raz, Vladmir? Vse sistemy funktsioniruyut normal'no."

Russian:

Maintenance again, Vladmir? All systems functioning as per normal.

Now that Einar is close to the control panel, he realizes that at the bottom of the panel is written, "Viktor Miloslav, Akuvskiy monastyr', 1917 god"

Russian:

Viktor Miloslav, Akuvskaya Monastery, 1917

He also realizes that the control panel controls the curiously levitating torus dancing with sparks of arcane energy. The levitating torus can be used to discharge a powerful lightning blast to desired targets. He suspects that besides controlling the levitating torus, the control panel can be used to perform another function - but what, he does not know. An activation failure for the other function would trigger a massive electrical discharge on the person who is attempting to tamper with the control panel.

Another chain lightning trap - its within your take 10 range on DD

The second function is not within your take 10 range, Or your take 20, for that matter, even if it were allowed - which I do not allow take 20 for DD for disarming traps. Should you attempt it, but fail, you will trigger the chain lightning trap - even if it was earlier disarmed - since it would reactivate it.

Male Bleachling (Gnome) Oracle (Spirit Guide) 18 (HP 219+5/219+5) (AC 49/27/38) (CMD 24) (Fort +17, Ref +25, Will +17) (Init +2) (Perception+32)

Crummock nods noncommittally.

"Хорошо. Продолжайте, товарищ."

Russian:
[b]"Good. Carry on then, Comrade."

He then heads back downstairs.

I guess we need to find this Viktor... From what GM Mort posted earlier, I would guess that he was dead, so I suppose the next stop is to go have a chat with the Tombstone Fairy, and find out where he is buried, since, oddly enough, I don't have True Resurrection on tap...

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Tombstone faery

The muddy trenches tear a gaping scar through a field of headstones and wooden crosses at the northwest corner of the prison camp. Upturned bone from centuries of burials crunch underfoot, hidden beneath the packed snow.

"Strannaya sud'ba. Ne pokhozhe na to, chto ya videl." The tombstone faery sniffs the air cautiously as she eyes the party warily."I vy chuvstvuyete zapakh stranno ... kak zimoy i smert'yu."

Russian:

A strange lot you are. Not like any others I have seen. And you smell odd...like of winter and death.

Male Bleachling (Gnome) Oracle (Spirit Guide) 18 (HP 219+5/219+5) (AC 49/27/38) (CMD 24) (Fort +17, Ref +25, Will +17) (Init +2) (Perception+32)

Crummock nods politely to the creature.

"Это точное утверждение. В конце концов, мы привязаны к Великой Кроне. Мы, в конце концов, не отсюда. Скажите, вы знаете, где лежит тело Виктора Милослава? Мы ищем информацию, которую только он может предоставить, и полагали, что вы, возможно, знаете, учитывая, что у вас есть особый интерес к таким вещам."

Russian:
"That is an accurate statement. We are bound to the Great Crone, after all. We are, after all, not from around here. Tell me, do you know where Viktor Miloslav's body lies? We seek information that only he can provide, and figured that you might know, given that you have a particular interest in such things."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (4) + 29 = 33.

retcon
When Einar sees Crummock putting on the odd suit with the funny breathing mask. He shrugs his shoulders, putting all weapons except for the newly acquired longsword, in his pack. ”Going in costume, that will save the lives of a few of these soldiers. But what will we do with Mister Whiskers and Geist?” Einar picks up the other suit and hands it to Greta, ”Keep the sword, that appears to be normal here, you can put the spear in my backpack, then draw it out as you need it.”

after the weapons shed
Walking with Mister Whiskers and Crummock, Einar asks, ”That dead thing back there, would the ice hammer work on it? I only have one use, but it’s useless if the prisoner has a friend to break them out.”

’Well time to find out how these costumes work on real people.’ Climbing the tower Einar approaches the four guards, ready to rage at a moment’s notice. When one of the four ask about maintenance, Einar breaths a sigh and nods affirmatively. Looking at the panels and taking in as much information as he can. He lets Crummock do the talking and then follows his sword brother back down the stairs. ”That panel had two tasks, one I could disable the other I have no idea what it even is. You are correct we need to speak to Viktor.”

’Ah, the assumption is that he is dead. Not a bad place to start then.’ Following Crummock to the graveyard. Einar smirks at the fairy’s description, then responds in sylvan. ” Հոտ է գալիս ձմռանը եւ մահվան, դա ամենագեղեցիկ բանը որեւէ մեկը ասել է մեզ, քանի որ մենք ժամանել այստեղ:”

aid another: diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 so that rounds us to a nice 35 diplomacy right?

Sylvan:
”Smells like winter and death, that's the nicest thing anyone has said to us since we have arrived here.”

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Working with assumption that only those suited appear in view. The rest who aren't suited are hiding somewhere around the corner.

"Akh..Izvestniki malen'koy babushki," The tombstone faery gives a wicked grin. "YA Polina. YA predvidel tot den', kogda kto-to zakhochet vzyat' tron Malen'koy babushki. I teper' ishchushchiye, kto stroil yakorya mira, i tot, kto skryvayetsya v tserkvi, no ne v tserkvi, daleko, daleko, mezhdu nami i zemley, iz kotoroy ya prishel."

Russian:

Ah..seekers of little grandmother,

I am Polina. I forsaw the day that the one would want to take Little Grandmother’s throne. And now the seekers seek the one who built the anchors of the world and the one who lurks in the church-but-not-the-church, far, far away, between here and the land from which I come.

"Tot, kto postroil mirovyye yakorya, kotoryye prinosyat zemlyu, iz kotoroy ya prishel, mertv. I eto ne tol'ko vashe telo, kotoroye vy budete iskat', no i yego dusha." Polina answers, "Yego telo lezhit v rukakh golodnogo shakala,"she points in one direction, "I yego dusha lezhit s rogatym zverem," she points in the other direction.

Russian:

The one who built the world anchors that bring the land from which I come is dead. And it is not only his body that you will seek, but his soul.
His body lies in the hands of the hungry jackal,
And his soul lies with the horned beast.

Body = yellow arrow. Soul = dark blue arrow.

Which way? Won't be giving the ring door view use, since you already know what awaits you in the inner courtyard.

Male Bleachling (Gnome) Oracle (Spirit Guide) 18 (HP 219+5/219+5) (AC 49/27/38) (CMD 24) (Fort +17, Ref +25, Will +17) (Init +2) (Perception+32)

Crummock nods politely.

"Спасибо за вашу помощь."

Russian:
"Thank-you for your assistance."

I guess we should go after the body...?

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Einar unlocks the wooden gate, then the partyfollows the muddy road continuous through it through a barbed wire fence into the prison camp's inner courtyard.

As the party steps through the gates, they see a ramshackle building housing several mechanical vehicles in various states of repair, and two massive armored vehicles with caterpillar treads. Then they hear a telepathic voice within their minds.

"Soldaty ne dopuskayutsya vo vnutrenneye soyedineniye. Ubiraysya ili my strelyayem."

Russian:

Soldiers are not allowed into the inner compound. Get out or we'll fire.

Mr Whiskers, then tanks

Retired to Triaxius

'a voice in my head, that's disconcerting, I didn't expect telepathy with the technology.' Seeing the large metal creatures begin to crawl towards them, turning their odd heads toward the gate, Einar begins to reach into his haversack calling out to Dimitri. "Димитрий, каковы эти металлические гусеницы и как мы их убиваем?"

Russian:
"Dimitri, what are these metal crawlers and how do we kill them?"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"Oni dovol'no bronirovannyye - zabirayut mnogo patronov, chtoby nanesti im vred. O, i oni mogut sgladit' vas tozhe." Dimitri answers.

Russian:

They're rather armored - takes many rounds of bullets to harm them. Oh and they can flatten you too.

Flee: Turn around and calmly leave.

Fight: Wall of Stone to block off the tanks. Can make a wall straight across their front.

'What did he say?' Einar watches Mister Whiskers wall go up. Looking from Mister Whiskers to Crummock then back to Mister Whiskers, nodding his head at Crummock, "So what's the plan?"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

One of the tanks begins to ram the wall down.

A 5ft section of the wall collapses.

The other tank moves behind the first tank, then fires it's large cannon.

Mr. Whiskers gives a small sigh at Crummock's reply. Sometimes I wonder why I even ask. Still, I don't want to abandon them. He then erects a wall of stone in front of the tanks.

Seeing the wall immediately get breached, Mr. Whiskers decides to try a different tact. I think someone said there were people in those things. Since they can see out there must be gaps in the wagons somewhere...

He casts confusion at the back of the first tank, encompassing both of the contraptions. Knowing how dangerous those things are, he spends a point from his reservoir to provide more power to the spell. He then moves in order to get out of the narrow field of fire created by the destroyed section of wall.

Confusion, DC 21 + 1 for Arcane Reservoir

He would move in which ever direction works best. For now, I'll assume that is right.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The tanks are completely unaffected by the confusion spell. "Chto vy pytalis' snova sdelat' v tanke?" Dimitri asks.

Russian:
What were you trying to do to the tanks again?

Greta moves forward while drawing her adamantine longsword.

Red line demarks breach in wall. Grey is the wall.

Crummock casts Plane Shift, and attempts to send one of the tanks to the Maelstrom.

Examining the remains of the tank – there is no one, but the interior smells of something strong and suffocating (formaldehyde). Instead, there is only a glass vessel containing a human brain in some kind of fluid, plugged to multiple wires.

Dimitri blanches, turning pale and looking horrified at the discovery. ” Viktor byl zaklyuchen v tyur'mu dlya eksperimentov s lyud'mi - on utverzhdal, chto, yesli on smozhet sovershenstvovat' svoi otkrytiya, on mozhet sozdavat' tanki, kotoryye ne trebuyut, chtoby lyudi pilotirovali ikh. Russian:

Viktor was imprisoned here for experimenting on people - both living and dead – he claimed that if he could perfect his discoveries, that he could create tanks that didn’t require people to pilot them. I never thought I’d see this happen…

Mr. Whiskers replies to Dimitri "Я пытался повлиять на людей, которые, как я думал, должны были находиться внутри танков. Очевидно, я что-то не понял."

Russian:
I was trying to affect the people that I thought were supposed to be inside the tanks. Evidently I misunderstood something.

After the group examines the remains of the tanks, Mr. Whiskers notes Dimitri's reaction. "Так это были люди? Чем больше я это вижу, тем меньше мне нравится эта технология."

Russian:
So these once were people? The more I see of it, the less I like of this technology.

Mr. Whiskers spends a few moments examining the destroyed machines, trying to determine any potential weaknesses that might be exploited.

Kn: Arcana if Constructs: 10 + 23 = 33
Kn: Engineering: 10 + 12 = 22 I expect this would be used for the tank systems

Looking around, he says "That caused a bit of noise. We best get moving soon!"

After the second machine is struck down, Einar releases his rage, then examines the remains of the tanks with the warband. 'Their brain in the machine, that doesn't sound like a way I would want to avoid death. I like having a body too much.' Turning from the tank, he nods his head in agreement with Mister Whiskers. ” Это кажется эффективным, но я бы не хотел, чтобы это было сделано со мной, это напоминает мне куклу души. Однако мне нравится оружие Димитрия. Кажется достаточно простым для оружия дальнего боя.”
Turning to Dimitri he points to the rifle, ” «Когда у нас будет шанс, вам нужно будет показать мне, как использовать огнестрельное оружие. Но теперь вы знаете, где Виктор был заключен в тюрьму?”

Einar then goes to the nearest building and, using the ring, looks inside.

if Dimitri indicates a specific area where Victor should be, Einar would go straight to it.

Russian:

“It seems efficient but I would not want it done to me, it reminds me of a soul doll. However I do like Dimitri’s weapon. It seems simple enough for a ranged weapon.”

“When we have a chance you will have to show me how to use the firearms. But for now do you know where Victor was imprisoned?”

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

After some poking and prying of the destroyed tank, Mr Whiskers realizes Greta’s longsword works best on it. DR 10/adamantine

” Tanki obychno pilotiruyutsya lyud'mi. My tak ne delayem. Vot pochemu Viktor byl zapert v pervuyu ochered“[/ b] Dimitri mutters darkly.

Russian:

Tanks are usually piloted by people. We don’t do things that way. That’s the reason why Viktor was locked up in the first place.

[b]” Posmotrite - u kazhdogo iz nas yest' to, chto yest' mozg,
Dimitri gestures at the brain in the glass vessel,” V nashikh golovakh. On kontroliruyet vse nashi funktsii. Eto mog byt' lyuboy iz moikh druzey!” He looks sadly at the brain in the glass vessel, but does not do anything with it.

Russian:

Look – each of us has that – which is a brain
In our heads. It controls all our functions. That could’ve been any of my friends in there!

The blackened remains of a long wooden barracks building threaten to crumble to ashy ruin in snow,. The haphazard pile of burned timbers resembles a mound of charred and tangled bones. An emaciated humanoid with the head of a jackal about to feast on a hunchbacked body with a prosthetic leg.

Mr Whiskers Knowledge planes: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (6) + 23 = 29

Mr Whiskers recognizes the creature as an advanced Maeladaemon. As personifications of death from starvation and thirst, Maeladaemons spend their time destroying resources and spreading hunger. It has 10 DR/good.

” Telo, o kotorom idet rech', yest' Viktor. YA by uznal, chto hunchedback b @ stard gde ugodno!” Dimitri exclaims.

Russian:

The body it’s about it eat is Viktor’s. I’d recognize that hunchedback b@stard anywhere!

The Maeladaemon is so intent on its up coming feast that it does not notice the party.

Knowledge religion Mr Whiskers: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30

Mr Whiskers realizes the risen bodies are variant Baykoks.

Infused bullets

These baykoks create magical bullets when firing their rifles – they do not need to carry separate ammunition. These bullets do normal damage, but gain a +1 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls. In addition, each bullet deals an additional 1d6 negative energy on a hit. Further, the first creature a baykok successfully shoots each round must succeed at a Fort save or to avoid being paralyzed for 1d3 rounds. This replaced the baykok’s normal infused arrows ability.

Dread Howl

Once per day, a baykok can unleash a blood-curdling howl. Any living creature within a 30-foot-radius burst becomes paralyzed with fear for 1 round unless it resists with a Will save. Any creature that makes this saving throw is instead shaken for 1 round.

If it makes a difference to the paralysis effect, Crummock doesn't actually take any negative energy damage, since he has Negative Energy Resistance 5...?

Geist snarls, and pounces forward onto one of the creatures.

Dimitri finishes the first one off with a single shot to its chest then helps Geist deal with his, by pumping it full of bullets until it falls over too, then puts 2 rounds into the third one. Greta moves forward and gets ready to strike anything that comes into her range.

The meladaemon tries to bite Geist, but its teeth clang off harmlessly off Geist's armor.

’Blast, who knew it had friends.’ Realizing the shooters were going to free the deamon, Einar snarls, to Dimitri, ” Вы сосредотачиваетесь на стрелках, я отвлечу демона” charging the no longer frozen deamon, Einar begins to rage, calling up his demonic heritage. His body tranforms. His ankles and feet shift becoming more animal like. His hands grow larger with talons, now appearing as claws. His maw extends and his eyes grow red. His small black horns became more prominent as his skin goes from pale to dark blue, emphasizing and enlarging the scales. His Cambion ancestry becomes very prominent. As he lets out a roar, ”Frozen, you would have lived!” Smashing at the creature with his hammer.

Einar gives the Meladaemon a good clobbering, injuring it.

Reflex save on the Baykok? It full attacked and didn't move. The Meladaemon will also need one if it doesn't move.

The meladaemon takes to the air to prevent itself from falling into the pit.

Then it begins to cast a spell. Mr Whiskers recognizes it as horrid wilting.

Crummock - add the modifiers later - if Dimitri's fort is > 16, he takes half damage.

Then it raises one of its arms and arcane missiles streak towards Dimitri. Mr Whiskers recognizes it as a quickened magic missile spell.
