That's definitely my choice, as well, both for the obvious reason and that replaying what we've already done does not appeal to me.

To answer how the chronicle will work, the character that died will basically act as if didn't exist when I report it in, essentially as long as you have a character survive to the poi t in which you get the chronicle, then you will earn it. To asnwer a question that wasn't asked, you were about 1/2 way to the chronicle.
Tchort, to answer it simply 500 GP for you may not have a chance to recover gear from your previous corpses.
Once you 4 have settled on a character I have will see about getting 2 more to join over this weekend
Tchort I would probably suggest hunter over mesmerist, though that is my personal opinion, I haven't messed with a mesmerist yet

Here is Eladorn, a Hunter for Erastil with a Megaloceros companion, Shael.
Eladorn has lived in Heldren for the last 15 years or so. A global traveler for many years (where he picked up a few unusual skills, like that with his nodachi), he stumbled upon Heldren and liked its quiet, laid-back attitude. Far from the politics in Taldor's capital, but alert due to the shadow of conflict with Qadira, it was a place that suited him well.
When the snows began to fall in midsummer, only a few days ago, he knew something was wrong, and that Heldren had a vital weakness: an inability to deal with cold. Eladorn immediately headed to Oppara with his companion Shael. They have only just returned with a vital load of winter supplies that are otherwise hard to find in small outposts like Heldren.
A member of the town's hunting lodge, Eladorn is horrified to hear of the zombie infestation Ylosani--so panicked and out of breath--described in the inn.
"I knew it! I knew there was something going on. I'm in; whatever you need me to do. Me and Shael; we'll do for ya."

The stout stag standing behind the hunter snorts at its masters outburst.
Yes, apparently the regulars at the Silver Stoat can bring megafauna into the inn.
This was the best image I could find. Shael doesn't usually wear tunics, but it was an inside joke between she and Eladorn when the photo was taken. You had to be there.

Hi guys, sorry was on vacation but should be free going forward..I go by Lucklesshero on the boards. Newmark is a 1st level un-played Dwarf Wizard. I don't have much of a back-story for him yet but I'll flesh out one as we proceed (promise).
Couple questions...it seems this was being run in Campaign mode with PFS legal characters correct? 1500 starting gp right? Any special house rules I should know about?...
Looking forward to gaming with you all.
GM I'll have a complete character profile filled out by Friday evening 29th. I'll included a link to a google docs folder that will keep a herolab character sheet and inventory tracking sheet.
Anything else you need from me?
(oh PS. I'll need to post 10 time I think before they allow me to change profile to include an avatar)

Its 500 gold, and fyi you can change your avatar anytime, its just after 10 posts you can't change your name
One thing I would suggest, get the short info like how Mustafa, Tyrael have under their bame, makes it a bit easier to post sometimes

OK so I just need to confirm a few things before I make some changes.
1. We are playing this in campaign mode correct? (I know the character played in adventure must be PFS as far as ability scores (and HP) go..but does that apply to traits? What I mean is: if we're given 500gp starting gold then the character is not PFS legal technically ..so are we going PFS legal except for starting gold only? OR can I use a campaign trait from the reign of winter players guide. Also in PFS I'm forced to take spell focus instead of scribe scroll if we're allowed I'd change that back to scribe scroll. )
2. You mentioned treasure divided anyway we decided...do our characters get to keep the treasure? Or must we "give it back" at every chronicle stage and buy our own loot. (ie. like in a PFS legal game...if in campaign mode it's understood we keep our treasure)
3. If we are in campaign mode wood you like the PFS numbers of the characters we are assigning the chronicles too. (technically if our characters "in-game" die so would the PFS characters that we assigned to receive the chronicles correct?)
4. Do you have herolab and would you like me to email you a copy of my character's portfolio?
That's all I can think of for now..Look forward to getting started. I'll have an info line posted under Newmark's name shortly before we begin in a couple days. Need some clarification on the above questions first. ( I might change out the Spellsage aspect of Newmark before we begin and just use the Arcane bond feature instead.)
Cheers

1)Both tables were set to PFS legal except for the gold, I did not require any of the Campaign traits, as for scribe scroll I would still side with the Spell Focus
2) during the AP, any gear will be kept till the end of the AP
3)when you get close to the point where the chronicle sheet is to be issued, as for deaths, I expect there to be many, if just the last encounter alone has proved. I will not be issuing mandatory deaths if your character dies in the AP, so if Newmark dies in the AP, but still want to assign the chronicle to someone, it will be a death free chronicle
4)I have herolab however if you choose the Output hero statblock to BBCode you can copy and paste it into your alias background for example Viscera

Can we get a brief synopsis of what has happened up to this point so far. Strangely enough, the player's guide for RoW is rather mute. I know we are in the village of Heldrin in southern Taldor. Ylosani has come in to the Silver Stoat and told us about a wizard or something killing his company of companions.
"what else should we know?" "Has an early winter set in?" "what are the conditions outside?" presumably the rest of our party has been in town at least a day or two before Ylosani.."Have we heard rumors as to some adventurers venturing out of town to combat an evil or go on a noble quest, ect...?"
Just trying to get a feel of where my character's head space starts.
| Eladorn |
I'm going to field this, @GM, I hope you don't mind. Please add to or correct anything here.
There is an unnatural winter occurring here in Heldren, especially in the Border Wood. It's currently summer, but snow has been falling there now for a couple of days. A caravan carrying a noble (Lady Argentae) from Oppara was attacked near the Border Wood by fey creatures that seemed to be native to cold environments. One survivor of the caravan, an Ulfen Guard, made his way to Heldren and asked for help; he is presumably still there, recovering at the Apothecary. The original PCs stepped up and went to the Border Wood to investigate.
How long the new PCs have been in Heldren is between each player and the GM, but it seems reasonable that anyone who's been in Heldren for a day or more would easily know anything described above.
I'm playing my new PC as a longtime resident of Heldren who immediately left for Oppara to get additional winter supplies for the town once the snow started falling. Unsure of what was happening, he decided that preparedness was the most important thing, and took swift action to secure supplies for Heldren before they could be bought out by others if the winter continued to spread. Now that he's back with those supplies, he's eager to learn more about what's behind the winter; Ylosani's call for help being the rallying cry that he's going to follow.

Ok so I can safely assume Newmark had time to swap out his normal Scholars outfit for a cold weather outfit before play starts correct?
Maraxus Keld

If you are from out of town, the unnatural cold is probably what drew you. I would think.
So fuzzy underbritches would make perfect sense.
| Thorn Slivertip |
Having played this before though I have never managed to get past a certain forest.
Best estimate would be about a week or so?
And I'd presume we have to be in the appropriate attire? Nothing says much else about a character prancing about in very little because of Cold Endurance or the like.
Newmark

looks to be a good active group. We're all embracing our characters and trying to interact in character so far. That's promising. Here's hoping we don't get slaughtered in our first few encounters !
Newmark

When is group play scheduled to start?
Maraxus Keld

10-4 good buddy!
Or however that goes.
When I did delivery driving truckers always annoyed me what with their sitting in their cabs reading or texting while the millworkers unloaded the semis while I had to haul my heavy machine parts by hand up the steps (cause the semis were parked in the only functional loading bays).
Did I say annoyed? I meant jealous;P

So just throwing this out there from experience...Newmark is bustling about as he'll tend to do in this adventure..But from a game metric point of view...it's much more efficient in PbP...to elect a leader for the group and just stick with their decisions. ...If we end up voting at every cross-road we're going to bog this game down. It could take two days just to decide which path to travel if everyone gets a vote. Speaking from experience: that just doesn't work.
I propose we hash out in advanced who leads in 90%-95% of situations..If the elected leader is not posting frequently or is making a lot of decisions that, hurt the party...we can just propose a new election (with no offense to the former leader) and have a vote on the discussion form.
The roll-playing is great so far btw...
But for efficiency sake I say we have a speaker leader...from a narrative standpoint ..Ylsoni makes the most sense to me..But he may not be up to the task (often posting twice a day)..Never-the-less..He'd be the one I nominate.
If Ylsoni didn't want the title of leader...I'd vote for Eladorn. He's a local from the area so he'd be the most interested in investigating the problem.
That's my 2 cents...hope u guys agree cause it could be a slog if we have to have say ....3 or more players agree to move forward (which I've seen plenty of argh!)
Real life combat teams aren't a democracy ...no reason we should be.
Mustafa al-Tali
|
Seeing as how Ylosani brought is together, I agree, he should take the leader spot. At least for now. If later on, he would like to step aside or whatever, we'll deal with that when the time comes
| Thorn Slivertip |
Agree.
Thorn should be last to be leader in anything. :P
Ylosani

I want to thank you all for this trust you have entrusted in me. Webster's dictionary...
I was going to give a heartwarming thank you and inspirational speech but that's as much as I could think of.
But I'll play Ylosani taking charge. Of course, everyone is welcome to give their opinion.
Newmark
|
In the end it speeds things along...the GM doesn't have to ask everybody, "what do you do next" he just waits for Ylosani to answer and we move on to the next thing..
| Eladorn |
I've found the Rule of Two to be a good approach; when two PCs agree on a strategy in the Gameplay thread, the GM moves the action forward. This allows the party to move forward without having to define a formal leader.
In this case, I think there's a great story element in Ylosani assuming the mantle of leadership (only survivor of the previous slaughter), so I think it's great to take that approach here. (Maybe fall back on Rule of Two if Ylosani is absent or posting slow.)
