Reign of Winter GM |

The captain edges his sled closer to Cervin, and takes a swing with his longsword, while trying to avoid the branches.
Melee attack against Cervin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Reflex save (DC 15): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Movement (with standard action): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
He swings and hits Cervin, but the blow is blunted by Cervin's chain shirt, and the captain is forced to pull away to avoid a tree.
Meanwhile, the guards behind try to gain ground, following the trails of the other sleds.
Guard #1 (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 16
Guard #2 (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 9
Guard #3: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Guard #4: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

Falling toward the back of the group, and seeing the guards gaining, Nadya focuses on avoiding the trees and following the trail.
Reflex save (DC 15): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Movement (top speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27

Arkady Szriakou |

Arkady does his best to duck the trees while continuing to harry the oncoming sleds with acid.
Ref save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Concentration check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Ranged touch attack, Acid Splash: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Cervin Kelinson |

Realizing that firing a bow would leave no hands to guide the sled, he snaps the reigns and tries to get through the forest.
Movement (Top Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Yagello |

Yagello finds himself in the same predicament as Cervin. He would like nothing better than to attack the guards, but his two-handed weapons likewise leave no hands to grasp the reigns. He pushes those thoughts out of his mind, concentrating on maneuvering through the tricky passages.
Movement (Top Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Reign of Winter GM |

Nevinia still need to make her Reflex save.
Yagello avoids most of the branches, but while looking back at the guards a moment too long he takes a face full of soft needles. The guards slow down, and the leader loses ground after his attack. He and another guard find themselves surrounding Arkady and Nadya. "Dere utlendinger vil snart føle vreden til Blek Tårnet!"
Despite his threat, his guards are beginning to fall further back. At the front of the pack, the trees come to an abrupt end at an icy crevasse, where the trail turns sharply to the left. One look down is all it takes to see the fall here would be treacherous.
It is round 5, and the sheet has been updated. The skill check this round is a DC 15 Will save to keep your wits as you make the sharp turn.
Captain attack Nadya, while guard #3 draws weapon.
Captain Melee attack against Nadya: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Captain Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Captain Will save (DC 15): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Captain Movement (with standard action): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Captain Nonlethal damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
#3 Will save (DC 15): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
#3 Movement (with move action): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
The captain manages to slash at Nadya's arm, but he has to maneuver too close to the edge, and is forced to pull his dogs to control them enough, and then leads them back onto the path.

Reign of Winter GM |

Guard #1 (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 18
Guard #2 (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 13
Guard #4 (full speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
The guards further back try to catch up to the rest of the party. Seeing the other sleds slow at the crevasse to turn, they slow well before the turn to accelerate along the treeline.
Guards in rear take full speed action (in case of #4) or limp along (in case of the fatigued dogs of #1 and #2).

Cervin Kelinson |

White-faced from adrenaline, Cervin lets out a shout as he pulls the dogs up sharply. However, he's unable to maintain his composure, and the sled skids out wildly forcing him to slow up and return back to the track.
Movement: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Nevinia |

Sorry! Work pulled me out of the swing of things again!
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 Whew!
Nevinia tucks in tight to avoid branches, and holds herself in tight to Yagello. "Spirits protect him," she intones.
Cast guidance on Yagello.

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

Nadya whips the reins of the sled, trying to maintain control along the edge.
Will save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Movement (full): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
Nadya panics and the sled comes lurching to a stop near Cervin, but Nadya does not recover as quickly.
Note that there is nothing to deal non-lethal damage, so there is no additional penalty for failing the will save by 5 or more.

Reign of Winter GM |

As the sleds follow the thin trail between the tree line on the left and the steep slope on the right, Yagello has a moment to look back from the lead position.
Behind Nevinia and Yagello's sled, one of the guards is following close behind, but just out of range. Behind him is Cervin, trying to catch up, and beyond Cervin is the guard captain and Nadya's sled, with the captain still threatening with his blade. The other guards are falling further and further behind, their dogs nearing the point of exhaustion.
Looking back at the path ahead, Yagello sees a series of rocks on the road, making the narrow path even more difficult to navigate. He can see only two options: risk going over the rocks, praying that the sled will hold; or guide the dogs right up against the edge of the trail, avoiding the worst rocks but coming close to sliding down into whatever lies below.
Everyone can declare (and roll) their round 6 options. The options this round are either a DC 15 Reflex save to go over the rocks, a DC 20 Handle Animal check to go along the edge, or a DC 30 Perception check to spot a safe path through the rocks. Both the driver and the passenger have to make the reflex checks, but only the driver needs to make the Handle Animal check, and either can make the Perception check. The guard captain and Nadya are far enough back that if anyone ahead makes the Perception check they can follow them without having to make a check.

Arkady Szriakou |

Seeing the rocks ahead, Arkady asks Nadya, "Over or around?"
Arkady has a slightly better chance at the Ref save than the Perception check, but if Nadia prefers to try to find a path through, he'll help look. Take the die roll below for whichever Nadya chooses. Ref save is +5, Perception check is +8.
1d20 ⇒ 6
We-e-ell doesn't matter either way, the dice gods are not on my side regardless.

Nevinia |

Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Non-lethal: 1d6 ⇒ 3
She looks back at the closing sled, and with a blatant disregard for her safety, scoops up a handful of passing snow, scraping her hand on a rock. She regards the driver, then the lead dog, and blows the snow at the canine.
Slumber Hex on the lead dog of Guard #3. DC 16 Will.

Cervin Kelinson |

Cervin looks around wildly and then shrugs, shouting at the dogs.
"Go! Go! I... don't know what words make you run faster but do it!"
Old Deadeye be with me Old Deadeye be with me...
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Movement: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17

Yagello |

In the midst of all this chaos, Yagello suddenly notices that Nevinia is drawn very close to him, and a nervous beat of sweat trickles down his forehead. He calls backs to the comely witch, "Be careful, it may get a little bumpy ahead. I don't want to lose you over that ravine!"
He doesn't quite trust his ability to maneuver the sled so close to the edge, so he pushes forward over the rocks.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Movement (Full Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
BTW, was I supposed to roll nonlethal damage back there when Yagello failed an earlier reflex save?

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

Yagello - no, you only take the non-lethal damage if you fail by more than 5. Failing by less than 5 only means you were slowed.
Nadya looks at the rocks ahead, and sees Yagello and Cervins sleds bump over the rocks. "Over, OVER!" She steers after them, hoping the guards are not as lucky.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Full movement: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
She stays to the sled, but slows for a moment to allow Arkady to get seated again. She looks back to see where the other guards are.

Reign of Winter GM |

Dog's will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
The snow blown by Nevinia moves in a hypnotic pattern, as if barely moving among the chaos of the chase, and as the lead dog passes though the fine mist, he collapses in a heap. The other dogs get tangled up in the reins, and the guard curses in Skald as he gets stopped in the rocks.
The guard captain realizes he is falling behind, and grabs hold of the reins again, whipping his dogs into a rush, while trying to stay on over the rocks.
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Move full speed: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
Behind, the remaining guards try to stay not far behind, hoping that the others will tire eventually.
Guard #1: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Guard #2: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Guard #4: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Guard #1 reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Guard #2 reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Guard #4 reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
One guard going through hits a rock funny but whips his dogs to catch up. The other two guards race to go over the rocks as well, but end up colliding with the sled that was stopped by Nevinia, and although they try to continue forwards they would only catch up if the other sleds stopped.
Yagello give himself a moment to look back. He is far ahead of his allies, who are still contending with the captain and one of the guards. The three remaining guards after that are far behind now, and could be outrun at this point.
The trail ends at the end of a long slope to the floor of a snow-covered valley, and the dogs are finally beginning to tire.

Reign of Winter GM |

The dogs are nearing the point of exhaustion after having run at full speed for so long. Ahead, the flat valley offers no further obstacles or delays.
There are no obstacles this round. After this round, the dogs will have to start making fortitude saves to avoid fatigue.
The guard captain sees another opportunity and attempts to attack Nadya.
Captain Melee attack against Nadya: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Captain Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Captain Movement (with standard action): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
The guard hits Nadya's leg, and Arkady can hear Nadya wince as she tries to maintain control of the sled.
The other guards try to gain ground, while the guard still up on the hill wakes his dogs.
Guard #3 spends the round waking his dog. The other guards take a full movement round.
Guard #1 (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 1
Guard #2 (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 20
Guard #4: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

Nadya tries to focus on the dogs, ignoring the growing pain in her leg as she focuses on trying to stay ahead of the guards.
"You have any more magic to help?" she asks Arkady.
Taking a full movement round.
Nadya's sled: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27

Arkady Szriakou |

Arkady tries once again to foul the leader's sled with acid.
Concentration: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Ranged touch attack, Acid Splash: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
I doubt the concentration check succeeded, but just in case, here is the crit confrirmation:
Ranged touch attack, Acid Splash: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Cervin Kelinson |

"YEAAAAA!" shouts Cervin as his sled flies over the rocks. He lands with a thud and seeing flat ground ahead, snaps his reins,t rying to get the last he can out of the dogs.
Movement: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34

Yagello |

Yagello takes his eyes off the trail for a moment and replies back to Navinia with a satisfied sigh, "Yes, I think the worst's over. I'll take us down into that valley, and maybe we'll be able to see the others from there. Because honestly, I don't really know where I'm going!"
Movement (Full Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

Reign of Winter GM |

Yagello looks back as the dogs begin to slow from exhaustion, and relaxes a bit when he sees he has a couple hundred feet lead on any of the sleds. However, Nadya only has a slight lead on the others. The only thing for certain is that the dogs are nearing the point of exhaustion, and will not be able to run at top speed much longer. Ahead, the valley trail ends at another rise up a long, slowly sloping hill. The dogs begin to balk at running much further.
Welcome to round 8! At the beginning of this round, each driver must make a fortitude save for their dogs (DC 15, 1d20+5). Failure means the dogs are fatigued and all further movement checks get a +0 bonus. After that, there is a choice of two obstacles to force the dogs to proceed, a DC 20 Handle Animal, or a DC 15 Intimidate check. Passenger and/or driver can assist one another on this check. An updated sheet is available.

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

"Hiya!" Nadya whips the reins, trying to push the dogs to stay ahead of the guards.
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Movement (fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 3
The dogs begin to yelp, though, and the sled begins to slow.

Reign of Winter GM |

The guards try to push their dogs to catch up to Nadya's sled.
Fort save (leader): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Intimidate (leader): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Movement (leader, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 20
Intimidate (Guard #1): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Movement (Guard #1, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 3
Intimidate (Guard #2): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Movement (Guard #2, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 12
Intimidate (Guard #3): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Movement (Guard #3): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Fort save (Guard #4): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Intimidate (Guard #4): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Movement (Guard #4): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
The captain manages to get one last push from his dogs, even getting ahead of Nadya and Arkady as his dogs begin to slow as well. One of his men's sleds manages to keep with the group, but the three other guards far behind remain out of reach.

Cervin Kelinson |

Cervin valiantly tries to get the last out of his dogs.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Movement: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Wow, did my luck ever run out!

Yagello |

Yagello sees the others away in the distance and hesitates for a moment. He exhales deeply and says to Nevinia, "The dogs are starting to get tired, but let's continue for a little bit. I'll follow the trail up that next rise, and see if the others can catch up..."
Fortitude Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Movement (Full Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25

Reign of Winter GM |

Yagello reaches the next rise, and looks back again. Now Nadya is leading the pack, with Cervin caught between the captain and one of his guards. The other guards are far behind, and if it weren't for the two sleds with Cervin, his companions could probably keep at a slower pace and get away.
Now that most of the dogs are fatigued, there are a few options. First, if the party can significantly delay the remaining two sleds while moving ahead, then the party will be free. Second, the party could stop and fight (Yagello can turn around if desired). Other ideas are welcome as well, however the party will be unlikely to lose the guards now that everyone is fatigued.

Reign of Winter GM |

The guards try to keep up with the action. The captain sees Cervin's sled slow, and takes the opportunity to steer his dogs alongside and swing his sword.
Captain Melee attack against Cervin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Movement (leader, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 13
Movement (Guard #1, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 9
Movement (Guard #2, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 10
Fort save (Guard #3 DC 16): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Movement (Guard #3, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 15
Fort save (Guard #4, DC 17): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Movement (Guard #4, fatigued dogs): 1d20 ⇒ 5
The captain misses Cervin aboard the slowing sled and yells in anger, as the other guards dogs are tiring and slowing down.

Cervin Kelinson |

Cervin ducks as a sword slash nearly cleaves his head from his neck.
"They've caught us! I'm just going to get some range so I can use my bow!"
Cervin snaps his reins in attempt to get beyond the guards.
Movement: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Hopefully pulling away a bit, Cervin drops the reins as the sled slows and aims his bow at the captain.
"Old Deadeye guide my arrows and strike down this snivelling servant of a tyrant!"
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Cervin is attempting to pull away from the guard captain and smite evil, since I beat his roll by more than 5 I assume I get some distance.
If smite evil is successful Cervin hits for 19 with 10 damage. If Cervin is within 30 feet, that's 11 damage.

Yagello |

Yagello shakes his head in frustration, "Uh-oh, it looks like the others are in trouble! I had a feeling this would happen which is why I wanted to fight back at the village!"
He begins turning the sled around to rendezvous with his companions, coaxing the dogs with soft commands.
"Nevinia, if combat breaks out, do you think we could change positions on this sled and you could take the reigns for a moment? If I touch you inappropriately by accident while we're shifting, I apologize deeply in advance. A woman should only be touched certain ways by her husband, and I mean no disrespect..."
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Movement (Full Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33

Reign of Winter GM |

Cervin's arrow sinks into the captain's arm, between two of the sheets of his chainmail and he yells in pain, moving along side Cervin's sled to retaliate. One of his guards pulls up along the side to box Cervin in.
Captain takes 11 points of damage, and for his round 10 action moves along side Cervin at takes a melee attack with his sword. Guard #4 move up a position with dogs and attacks.
Captain's Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Guard's sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Cervin manages to duck to evade one swing, and skirts his sled to the side to avoid another, narrowly missing the second guard's blade.
The sheet has been updated. Now that the dogs are fatigued, I've changed the layout to indicate exactly how far everyone is from each other in terms of positions, direction facing, along with a distance chart. Assuming everyone stays on their sleds, each sled can move up to two positions each turn as an essentially "free" action (as the dogs are just taking two move actions) or change direction, while anyone can take a full round of actions, with the exception of drivers, who must keep one hand on the reins at all times.
For example, in this round the leader stayed put at position 10 to attack Cervin, Guard #4 moved to position 10 to attack Cervin, and the remaining guards moved up two positions to attempt to catch up.

Arkady Szriakou |

Arkady braces himself and aims his crossbow. As soon as Nadya brings them close enough, he fires.
Wait until we are within 80' to avoid range penalty, then fire at one of the guards harassing Cervin. He'll try to pick one that isn't currently in melee to avoid the additional -4, but if that is not possible he will fire anyway.
Attack, crossbow: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

Nadya whips the reins to get any speed she can out of the dogs, and whoops as Arkady lets a bolt fly. It hits the leg of the guard menancing Cervin, although it appears to only graze before ricocheting off into the snow.
Arkady connects! Nadya steers the sled to position 9.

Cervin Kelinson |

Cervin keeps riding and turns to fire off another arrow at the guard captain.
Smite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Movement: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Reign of Winter GM |

Cervin's drops the reins of the sled to draw his arrow, and it flies straight and true, nearly hitting the captain in the same arm, and the captain kneels down on his sled in obvious pain, dropping his sword on his pack.
I'm going to say that Cervin's sled slowed as he dropped the reins and he only moved one position away. Successful hit, though! I'll give a bit of time for Yagello and Nevinia to take round 10 actions, and then I will take the guards' turn.

Yagello |

Yagello continues to urge his dogs onward, circling back as quickly as possible to aid his friends.
Fortitude Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Movement (Full Speed): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
I'm assuming since I've made all of my fortitude checks, I can still push the dogs to full speed?

Reign of Winter GM |

Yagello - no, the fortitude save has been rising, and you missed it by one last round.
[url=https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CT12e9wbwIhXpuINV0RPNPgfgkdRim4SL9dns9scxjw/edit?usp=sharing]The sheet has been updated with the status as of round 11. All dogs are fatigued, and can move a fixed two positions each round (1 or fewer if the driver is not actively guiding the dogs).
The captain of the guards drops the reins and begins going through his pack and pulls out what looks like a small compact case. Meanwhile, his companion pulls in front of Nadya's sled and attempts to slice at the woman.
Captain uses a move action to retrieve an item, and remains at position 10. Guard #4 moves forward to position #9 and attacks Nadya. The remaining guards move forwards two positions, 18 to 16, 22 to 20, and 24 to 22.
Guard attack (longsword): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The guard misses and he snarls in frustration as his dogs pull him past Nadya and Arkady.
Everyone may take round 11 actions. At this point if the captain and the only guard still with him can be dispatched, the party can still escape from the other guards as they are so far behind. However, if the melee lasts much longer the trio will eventually catch up.

Cervin Kelinson |

As Cervin's sled slows, he raises his bow, whispers a prayer, and fires off two arrows at the captain.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Nadya Petska of Waldsby |

Nadya swings at the guard as he passes, then begins to steer the sled around to go back towards Yagello.
Nadya steers the sled facing the right way again, and tries to "axe" the guard a question.
Handaxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
"Bah!" Nadya exclaims in disgust as she misses her chance.
Arkady and Nevinia can still take an action, but I'll likely move to the next round over the weekend to keep things moving!
