I was just suggesting that I approach the dogs. If they attack then we are in the right to defend ourselves. We don't sneak up on them and kill them cold heartedly. We should know their intentions first. What if they have nothing to do with Beast and his father. They may be looking for victims or looking to raid the place. Not being an expert in engineering or stonework, Anna isn't completely confident in what she's seeing, but there does some to be some signs of a recent attack on this place.

What can I recall about Troll dogs?

Tolvan recalls/posits that these trollhounds indeed have regeneration ability, a deadly bite likely combined with a diseased mouth. Given the singular nature of trolls, these hounds probably focus on a single foe until it has been killed then focus on the next and so on.


Anna silently moves along the edge of the river, amongst some low rocks, as the others make their way up the road. At about 50', both hounds raise large heads, noses held high. As one they turn down the road and see the two women walking slowly toward them, their body language all menace. Standing, the two animals crouch with hackles raised, clearly about to charge.

As you've been aware of them for awhile, and waiting for anything aggressive, you have a surprise round action.

Having been climbing so much recently, you can see the walls of the gorge are extremely slick, and it would take great skill to climb them without some major assistance. The walls of the buildings look nearly as difficult to climb, but not quite as bad. A fall from this area would result in roughly a 100' fall into the swiftly moving river below.

Anna rolls her eyes a bit as the rest of her party gives the troll-dogs ample time to get up and alert everyone inside the gatehouse. When the blacklight line of energy shoots across the road her jaw drops a moment, but she starts moving again nonetheless. She stops at the base of the watchtower, just around the slight rounded corner.

I don't see a grid, but I'm going one square northeast and five squares east, pressing myself against the wall and hunkering down to avoid being seen.

Round 1
Tolvan moves forward a standard move of 30' trying to close the distance to the rest of the party and fires an arrow at the closer troll dog. You said 'readies to fire' but did not state the conditions, so just firing for you.

Danica readies herself to take a swing with her flaming temple sword at any troll dog that comes to attack her and/or Andjela. Readied action.

"Keep taking the lead from those two, and we'll kill everything under the sun." Andjela states blandly, and uses some animal training techniques commonly used to soothe and calm animals.

"Lady death show these creatures the light of your power." Kimberly holds out her hand and a beam of black light shoots forth toward one of the dogs, missing it narrowly, singing a few hairs and burning into the heavy gate behind it.

Anna rolls her eyes a bit as the rest of her party gives the troll-dogs ample time to get up and alert everyone inside the gatehouse. When the blacklight line of energy shoots across the road her jaw drops a moment, but she starts moving again nonetheless. She stops at the base of the watchtower, just around the slight rounded corner, keeping out of sight, and still unnoticed by the two animals.

The two dogs tilt their heads curiously at Andjela, and then tear forward at charging speed, barking ferociously, slavering madly from gnashing jaws. The first charges Danica, massive jaws closing quickly on the womans leg, but are suddenly stopped just short by the magical armor bestowed by Tolvan. For herself, Danica unleashes her prepared sword strike in a impressive display of prowess, cutting deeply into the dogs shoulder and side, the flame making the rent flesh sizzle.

The second charges Andjela, but her armor is too well crafted, the teeth scraping against metal and unable to find purchase.

Now Tolvan will haste the group, all except Anna as she's too distant. As he completes the arcane gestures phrases he crushes a root in his left hand and then reaches up and taps the badge he now wear, extending the spell for a full 12 rounds. Effect is +1 AC, +1 Reflex Save, +1 to hit, up to +30 move (double your speed, max 30), AND 1 extra attack when taking the full attack action.

"Violence only begets violence!" Andjela says, even as her curved blade takes several deep cuts from the trollhound, the cuts immediately starting to heal.

As the carnage erupts down the road, Anna sends the rope upward. The magic rope slowly making it halfway up the two story wall, another 10 feet still remaining till it reaches the top and is able to secure itself. 10' a round, and it's as yet unsecured, so I figured you wouldn't want to climb just yet.

Danica uses the sum of her combat intuition, reflexes and Tolvan's enhancements to try to keep the creature at bay. She uses her free hand to try to deflect any lunges coming in her direction. She continues her offensive with the searing temple sword. "No Leash...then you are wild. Fair game. We are in the right." And puts the truth to her words with two quick cuts with her sword, felling the Trollhound before her and the flames preventing any rapid healing by the creature.

The second animal doesn't give it's fallen fellow a glance, lunging single-mindedly at Andjela. Once more the yellowed and glistening fangs fail to penetrate her armor.

Suddenly an extremely large crossbow bolt skips off a rock near Danica's feet, careening harmlessly away. Following it's trajectory shows an extremely large Troll partially obscured by the battlements atop the guardhouse in the southwest tower, working to reload a huge crossbow. Even as you observe this, two other trolls, not as large as the first but still dangerous-enough looking, take up positions on the northwest and southeast, hefting large rocks and looking your way. Atop the farthest tower, a trio of goblins pop up, squished onto the tower, and start hurling insults your way. None of the attackers appears to have noticed Anna (or her magic rope) as of yet.

Round 3:
Anna pulls the rope back down when she sees the tops of the battlements defended. Instead, she rubs her face in frustration, then begins to work around to the front of the gatehouse, hugging close to the walls to keep out of sight from those above. Once she's near the doors, she'll take a look at the doors, gate, or whatever it is that appears closed.

I might have another action if there's something for me to do at the doors.
