Yeah, I'm really excited. I had struggled with what feat to take and had been thinking about taking Skill Focus or Alertness to boost my commonly-used skills when I realized I qualified for a familiar (since I have both minor and major magic talents), which gives me Alertness along with a bunch of other cool stuff. Once I realized that, it came down to picking the right animal and the monkey seemed just perfect for Anna.

Special thanks to Rannik for indulging me and making the discovery of Gilliam a part of the story and not just having him appear out of thin air!

I looked at a couple of prestige classes but the flavor was wrong so I stayed with plane old wizard. Soul Warden sounded good but all it really added was a weak channel to hurt undead. And with Sonny we got that covered in spades. :)

That seems like a pretty decent haul. Not much of specific use to Anna, though. (The ring of protection is useful to everyone.)

Depends on what other powers the Moribund Key possesses, but it'd be neat to sneak attack with the vampiric touch and add another 6d6 to the hit!

tolvan's take 10 was a 31 at level 10, but I will roll here. Note a little bit of cheese in that we had not leveled when we found the key so I will roll at level 10. If I fail I can roll again at level 11. :)

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (19) + 21 = 40

Might not be necessary to apply cheese.

I am not sure Tolvan can even activate an item that casts necromancy school spells since that school is an opposition school.

Too bad you cannot use the spectral hand to pick pockets, open locks and disarm traps from a distance. That would be useful. Hmm. I think you could use they key to cast Spectral Hand then use the key to cast Vampiric Touch through it at +2 to touch. Not sure if sneak attack would apply then though. Seems like it might.


@Tolvan: No problem with the permanency spell.

Moribund Key has a complex property. The skull in the center can rotate and is placed properly could activate powerful wards, programmed images, or the release of arcane locks. The setting that Tolvan can figure out will activate a programmed images.

Sadly, this power, and all the others, once activate, will confer anyone of a good alignment 1 negative level when you activate it.

Yes. That's why the roll. It's not exactly a curse, but more like a trap for any good character trying to use it.

Ouch. Is it a permanent negative level, or one of those things that stays with you until you drop the item?

I think a Restoration would fix the negative level, even if permanent. But think it would cost 1000 gold iirc. But "normal" items like this do not impose an immediate permanent negative level. Something about if you do not remove it with X number of days, maybe a week, it becomes permanent?

Either way I think we likely need to hear/watch the message contained.

Well, there's always Use Magical Device. Anna could try to emulate an evil alignment. At +16, it's not impossible.

Though, someone's going to have to tell her that she's actually good before she tries using the thing.

She wouldn't believe it, but the others may have picked up on the fact that she's exhibiting a good alignment.

Note that a negative level is not that bad if it can be removed. If we actually need this as a tool to accomplish our mission... Want to at least run that programmed illusion. I keep thinking of Princess Lea. lol
