Sorry for the delay, computer troubles.

"Yes ma'am!" Alexite calls up to Indra. To the goon in front of him, he growls, "Your lucky day! Maybe." Lunging forward, he grabs the goon's cape and yanks it around, over his face!

Dirty Trick with Combat Expertise!: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 1 = 15 If this exceeds his CMD, Goon 2 is blinded (move action removes it) for 1 round +1 per 5 by which it beats the CMD.

Alexite then dashes into the crowd of prisoners. "'Scuse me! Comin' through! Liberation underway!" He staggers out of the crowd near Kossrani. "Hey dwarf! No need to pick on the bookish lady!"

AC this round: 17. I think Kossrani might get an AoO as I move to where he is. I'm assuming that I can move through the prisoners (and hoping that I can move at full speed, especially given my Heart of the Streets racial trait).

Actions:

Standard: Blind the goon!
Move: Weave through the crowd to Kossrani!


My bad, Indra! I should have looked up that spell. Actually, that attack was just his normal round of action, not an AoO, so let’s see what happens...

Will Save: 1d20 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 1 - 2 = 13

As Alexite grabs at his cape, the fighter he was standing against looks even more worried about his chances, thanks to Indra’s droning, and seems to lose all sense of what to do against the lithe fighter once the cape gets tangled over his head!

Blinded for one round. Ill say yep, heart of the city gets you to Kossrani without an AoO. However...

Once Alexite gets close enough, he’s momentarily deafened and slightly seared when Nerris’ bomb strikes Kossrani square on the shield and EXPLODES in fire!

Nerris, how much splash damage do you deal to the surrounding squares? From Kossrani’s current position, you’ll hit captives 1 and 2, in addition to Alexite.


The dwarf pats at a few flames on his clothes before roaring, just in time for Orrias’ bolt to slice across his shoulder.

Kossrani laughs in battle lust, now swinging as hard as he can at Alexite...

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

...slamming home a solid blow to the fighter’s ribs!

"You remind me of the two dwarves who went hunting," Pip says, trying to distract Kossrani, thus disarming the greatest threat.

"They were out in the woods with their crossbows, when a beautiful, unclothed elf emerged and eyed them seductively. She asked them, 'What are you doing?' and they replied, 'We're hunting game.'

With a coquettish smile and wiggle of her hips, she says, "Well, I'm game.' - So they shot her."

Pip weaves his magic into the joke, assuming that Kossrani would get no further than the surface humor and never catch the subtle jab towards him, characterizing him as a man so cruelly focused on his task that he callously destroys something more precious.

Beguiling Voice on Kossrani: DC 14 Will Save or lose his next turn's actions.

Indra’s arrow scrapes the guard’s ribs, leaving a bloody furrow.

Sara’s aim is a little blocked from easily reaching Kossrani, so she takes a page out of Indra’s playbook and shoots the guard nearest her...

ATK: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
CONFIRM?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
DAM: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 8, 6) + 3 = 21

...neatly delivering an arrow to his eye and instantly dropping him to the ground!

Kossrani Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Bwah ha ha ha HA! the dwarven warrior roars. Ye’re right, halfin’, I LOVE guttin me any elf I can get me hands on!

ALexite and one of the captives manage to avoid the worst of Nerri’s bomb blast, but another of the captives isn’t so lucky, and catches the full brunt. In his weakened state, the man collapses to the ground, unconscious.

Alexite hisses in pain as Nerris’s bomb goes off near his face, though he manages to avoid the worst of it. ”Watch the goods, Book!” Taking up a defensive stance, he swings at Kossrani.

Just gotta keep the sucker busy long enough for the others to take him down... Alexite thinks grimly. He steps quickly away from the prisoners, hoping to ensure Kossrani won’t go after them.

"Damn," Orrias grits his teeth as the bomb goes off--injuring two of their rescue targets and making considerable noise. "I should be more careful about what I wish for!"

Still, they had some time. Slotting another bolt into his hand crossbow, the elf patiently waits for his opening. As Alexite and Kossrani engage Orrias fires.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 4 = 18 Damage?: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Nerris panics as she sees the prisoner fall. "No. That's not what I wanted to have happen.....," she says as she runs over to the fallen prisoner and starts administering an extract.

I forgot to mention before all this started that my third spell would be a CLW.
I don't know how many actions this will take....

Nerris, if you move up like that, you’ll definitely provoke an AoO. I’ll rule that you can draw the extract while you move, then apply it as a standard action. I’m also going to put the AoO in a spoiler for now, in case you want to adjust your action to avoid this. As an alternate option, Alexite did get hit by Kossrani for a good bit of damage, so you could apply the healing to him without provoking. Your call!

AoO vs. Nerris:

ATK: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
DAM: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
The dwarf slams you in the shoulder with his mighty mace! However, you reach the felled captive, and your extract revives him. He looks at you with confusion in his eyes, even as he is clearly grateful for the aid.

Shrugging off the minor nick from Orrias’ crossbow, Kossrani lunges again at Alexite, trying to take down the lithe fighter...
ATK: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
DAM: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
...striking you in the stomach, nearly knocking the wind out of you!

Since its down to you and Kossrani, the party is now up! I’ll go ahead and post Sara’s attack now, but if she crits again I’m just going to give up combat for a while >.<

I should brush up on my poison lore for future fights, this is taking far too long, Orrias considers, loading another bolt and taking aim at the dwarf. "You're tough, Kossrani, but not unkillable," Orrias tells him as he puts another bolt into the bearded Asmodean.

As Indra draws a bead on the dwarf, Nerris leaps across her field of attack to help the downed man.

Could use some healing at your next opportunity, Nerris! Down to 2 hp. Dang that high attack roll he has...

Alexite grunts and doubles over in pain as Kossrani belts him. Flecks of blood fly out of his mouth as he coughs, then wipes his mouth with the back of one hand. "I'll pay you back for that with interest, dwarf," he growls. His legs are shaking slightly as he lunges, though...

Attack (CE): 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 1 = 16 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Current AC is still 17...


Orrias' attack just manages to punch through Kossrani's armor, and the minor nicks and pokes are wearing the tough dwarf down.

Unfortunately, Alexite and Indra's attacks either miss completely, or simply bounce off the hardy dwarf's shield.

Pip and Nerris, still your go for this round of combat before Kossrani jumps in!

"Bugger!" Pip groans softly. It figures that this fellow would be too dense for the subtlety of both his words and his magic.

Pip wiggles his index finger in the air, conjuring a growing mote of fire from nothingness.

"Alright," he says in an overly grim tone, "You wanna be salty...?"

Pip flicks the flame, and it grows into a draconic shape, unfurling its small, fiery wings as it flies. It zigzags between the captives, allies, and rubbish in the alley before exploding in a shower of sparks between Kossrani's stubby legs.

Snapdragon Fireworks Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

DC 14 Reflex Save: if he fails, he takes 3 damage and is Dazzled for one round. If he succeeds, he takes half damage.
Pip can also launch another Snapdragon on his next turn as a Move Action.

Nerris turns to throw another bomb but as she readied to throw another Korssrani takes another attack against her battered arm. Unable to deal with the pain any longer she collapses from shock.

Kossrani jumps just in time against Pip's firework, which connects against a meaty thigh instead of an even more tender target. After his mace glances off Nerris' skull, he brings it around again to target Alexite once more...

...but he's off balance! The attack goes very wide, and the dwarf grimly takes a defensive stance against his opponents. He's clearly slowing down after all the little nicks and cuts add up.

SaraBOT fires another arrow at him...

S PBS, PS ATK: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

...but her shot just barely glances off the dwarf's pentagram-embossed steel shield!

The rest of the party is up! Nerris, make a CON check, others can post as needed. Feel free to move Sara if you'd like her somewhere else and not in the way, was just getting her closer. You've done 23 points of damage to Kossrani so far - he's a tough one, but you're doing great!

Alexite groans inwardly as Kossrani puts Nerris on the ground. Not Books! She was going to heal me... Gritting his teeth, he takes advantage of Kossrani's distraction by Orrias and...

Whiffs again! His sword whistles through the air, drawing the dwarf's attention back to him. He steels himself for another blow. Nowhere to run in this damn alley...

"Why am I not surprised that you're used to painful burning between your legs? Pip jibes Kossrani, launching the verbal barb just as he prepares to launch another magic snapdragon. Making him laugh was no good, so the slip thinks to leave him stunned with anger. "What harm's one more then, you devil-dabbling dwarf!

Snapdragon Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Standard Action: Beguiling Voice - Will Save DC 14 to avoid losing next turn's actions.
Move Action: Launch another Snapdragon Firework - Reflex Save DC 14 for half damage and avoid being Dazzled for one round.


K Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
K Ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

As he sidesteps Alexite’s swing, Kossrani’s roar turns into a laugh at Pip’s bawdy joke, and he dodges nimbly away from the firework so that it only catches him in the hip. Better to have gotten it than lived in a monastery!

He steps closer to Orrias, but not so far that he leaves himself exposed to Alexite. I’ll deal with you in a minute, crossbow - but first!

K PATK Alexite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

He overconfidently swings a powerful backhand at Alexite, but it is easily parried by the nimble fighter!

SaraBOT lines up another shot...

S PBS, PS: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

... but it just clangs off the dwarf’s shield! She steps out of Indra’s way, sensing a solid strike incoming.

Next round, party! Nerris is stable, Indra has True Strike about to hit, and Kossrani is HURTING!

"I've had just about enough of this," she snarls. With a small flash of magic, Indra's arrow streaks toward the dwarf.

Alexite is limping badly, but grinning like a madman. ”Heh heh...slowing down...ain’tcha...stumpy?” He coughs a bit of blood onto the pavement. ”I got three words for you...Down. With. THRUNE!”

And then he reads back and lobs a phlegmy, blood wad of spit directly into the dwarf’s eyes!

Dirty Trick (CE): 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 1 = 23 Good timing, bot! If that beats CMD, he’s blinded. A move action gets it off, but he’s flat-footed until then!

Actually...assuming he is blind...

Alexite, taking advantage of the opening, staggers toward Orrias and pushes his way past the elf. "Take your shot and move, ears. Either he'll come to me or I'll come to him; either way, I'll kick his ass." He braces himself for a charge--giving or receiving, he'll find out soon enough.

AC remains 17.

"No offense Alexite, but you seem to have gotten the worse end of it when it comes to asses being kicked." Orrias quips, slotting another bolt into his crossbow and calmly shooting the (Blinded?) dwarf again.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Confirm?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Wow, my dice roller is hot this fight!
Critical Again!: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

Between Indra and myself that's an extra 11 points, hopefully that does the trick.


Kossrani cries out in frustration when the bloody spit strikes him square in the eyes. YE CHEAP BASTARDS! I"LL BE THE END O- HURGK!!!! he cries in fury, then confused pain and fear. Indra's arrow strikes him squarely in the hip, severing a tendon, just before Orrias comes up with a deadly crossbow bolt straight into the dwarf's eye! Kossrani drops to the ground, shuddering and twitching, before falling silent and still.

HOORAY! Sorry that battle took so long, but well fought!

SaraBOT runs forward to Nerris, and calling upon the healing forces of the natural world, lays a hand on the doctor's wounds...
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Then stepping over to assist Alexite with the same...

The captives on the ground are recovering from the shock of the battle, but one raises his eyes and, seeing the dwarf bleeding out on the street, offers a sigh of relief. Praise Cayden, I thought I'd die in those salt works, then I thought I'd die here in this alley. I can't thank you enough. I'm Forvian Crowe. Who are you? And why are you helping us?

"We're no friends of Thrune or its lackeys," Orrias answers as he pulls Crowe to his feet. "But first let's get to safety. There'll be time enough for questions once we're off the streets with our wounds tended. Quickly now!"

Nudging Kossrani with the tip of a boot, Orrias grimaces. "Don't suppose anyone has ideas about hiding the bodies? We made a lot of noise just now and probably don't have much time."

specifically, I'm thinking about prestidigitation or something like that. should allow the cleaning of 'evidence' fairly easily

Nerris slowly starts to stir after the healing she received. After inspecting the numerous welts and bruises she turns to everyone else and says,"I'm sorry for screwing up the plan. I didn't think he'd believe us after you shot him. If anyone needs healing I'll provide more after we are safe."

Orrias stares at Nerris a moment, mouth agape. "Mess up the plan...?" he begins, before it dawns on him and he starts chuckling. "Nerris, you didn't mess anything up, I'm shocked the oaf fell didn't see through such a stupid lie. Come on, let's get you out of here..."

Indra's a little grumpy about the way things went, but satisfied that they won. She casts a healing spell on Nerris. After the whole thing with the lemures I messed up, I guess I can't be too angry.

Pip grumbles unintelligibly that his magic is more useful for cleaning blood off the cobbles than it was for subverting their enemies.

As he works his Prestidigitations, he keeps cocking glances over his shoulder to look for any interlopers who might have heard the sounds of battle or, sigh, his snapdragons. Pip keeps ready at half a moment's notice to whip out his ensorcelled silver tongue to convince any such arrivals that they should just turn right around and pay no mind.

"Ah, thanks for that," Alexite says to Sara, tousling her hair slightly if she lets him. He stretches, wincing at the wounds that still remain.

When Nerris apologizes, he laughs. "You haven't been in enough tavern brawls, Books! Things never go according to plan. Tell you what, you and I should go out drinking sometime. Then you'll see a plan that's really messed up good and proper!" He paws through the guard's bodies for a second. "Junk...junk...hmmmm. Nice bow. You want, Blue? If not, I'll take it." He holds up Kossrani's bow for her.

Once the loot's been secured, he unceremoniously dumps any of the dead guards behind the crates.

Do any of the guards still live?

You haven't heard anyone on the main street scream for guards yet, but you can't be sure if you're just in a friendly part of town or if you actually got away with it.

The guards are both long dead - each has an arrow from Sara that has punctured a vital organ, and they bled out within a moment of the strike.

Right - first things, then, Forvian struggles to his feet. We got another man back there in the Salt Works, and I ain't goin' anywhere without him. How do we get him out?

Indra approaches Forvian. "We will get your man. One, we need all the help we can get. Two, any blow against Thrune is worth it. BUT, we need to move out of this alley first. Then you can tell us what the set-up is at the Salt Works and how many guards remain. We can't just run in blind."

I'm assuming we can dress up some of the newly freed guys in the armor and weapons of the dead guards. We might even keep one dressed as a slave, with manacles on that aren't locked, and head back to the Salt Works... the old prisoner transfer bit

With your support, the four captives make it back to the main thoroughfare before you have to trickle your way out of the alleyway and not draw too much attention to yourselves...

...and you manage to get to Forvian's quiet spot (a little garden behind a residence) with little more than a few odd looks your way.

Right then, he sighs, breathing heavily from the exertion. So you took out Kossrani and two of the guards. That leaves two in the salt works right now, then the night shift'll be in the barracks out back, four of them. The guards're no worse than the two you fought here, especially without Kossrani to back them up. The four of us, he motions to the other exhausted captives, can stay here until you get back to collect us. Though you might grab a few sets of clothes on the way, if you see them. He manages a weak grin at this, gesturing to the disgusting outfit that he's obviously been laboring and sleeping in for a long while.

As for the layout, there's a big front office, and it connects to the salt pit - where they dry it out for everyone. In the back, there's a hallway to the storage room, but also doors that go to the salt furnace and the holding cell where we were kept at night. There's a work yard out back, and then the barracks on the other side of the yard. Kossrani slept there, too.

Six guards total, but only two on duty right now. If you're quiet enough, might be able to get the last captive out without raising the other four. Give me a plan! :)

Orrias frowns as the magical enhancements to his disguise dissolve, the alchemical elixer's time expired. "I like Indra's suggestion, we could try it as a variation on the trick we just pulled," he offers, scratching his chin thoughtfully. "I resume my previous disguise, Nerris too if she feels up to it, and we take the rest of you in as 'captured troublemakers' and spring our attack while they're surprised." the elf sweeps a hand to indicate Indra, Alexite, and Pip.

"Pip, do you think your magic could lull them enough that we could overpower the ones on duty without alerting the night shift?"

"Shouldn't be much of a trouble," Pip says with a grin. "Just let me get a few magic words in before swords are drawn, and I can leave them stupefied. They're probably halfway to stupefied already."

Pip uses a bit more Prestidigitation to make himself look more like a captured laborer - dirtying his clothes and giving his eye a black, swollen look. He also rips his clothes a bit, silently promising both Soria and his mother that he will magically mend them after all is said and done.
