Upon further inspection, the boots turn out to be a pair of daredevil boots.
Price 1,400 gp; Aura faint enchantment; CL 3rd; Weight 1 lb.
This pair of magical boots shimmers in vibrant shades of blazing red and burning orange when they are held up to the light. These boots allow the wearer to gain extra maneuverability while moving through hazardous areas. As a free action, the wearer can click her heels together to grant herself a +5 competence bonus on Acrobatics checks made to move through threatened squares or to move through an enemy's space without provoking attacks of opportunity for up to 10 rounds per day. The rounds do not need to be consecutive. Furthermore, anytime the wearer of the boots successfully moves though the space of an enemy without provoking an attack of opportunity, she gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls against that enemy until the end of her turn.

...and shakes his head, grinning. "Of course, the abjuration is obvious. It's designed to help you shake off the effects of poisons, dodge out of the way a little faster, and not fall prey to spells. Quite valuable in the field, as they say!" ((It's a cloak of resistance +1, of course. :) ))

Orrias broaches the topic of which targets the Fushi sisters are marking on the streets. Korva gives a very (appropriately) birdlike twitch of her head to the side, then says flatly, "You want me to be a bit more discerning about my targets? But of course. Only merchants and citizens that are obviously pro-Thrune, is that your idea?" She looks at her sisters, then gives a shrug. "There are certainly enough of them, and more than enough of those... militia members? It's hard to know what they are officially, of course, but they're easy enough to pick from. Don't worry, we'll make sure that no one knows it was the six of you."
Alexite Tauranor |
"Eh. Yeah, sounds right I guess," Alex says, stretching lazily. "Since no one else here liked my plan." His eyes twinkle merrily as he takes a swig from his flask. He glances at the boots that the magic-savvy have identified, and at his own feet, but doesn't say anything on the subject. At least not yet.
Those boots could be handy for Alexite--he's got the Acrobatics training and will be in the thick of things--but if there's a character for whom maneuverability is a bigger concern I'll gladly cede to them. Orrias? Sara?
Orrias Lelitaern |
As far as I'm concerned you're welcome to take the boots. I'm going to start using Long Arm to keep my distance if I can.
"No, no, you're not missing anything at all. Information is something we can never have too much of, along with coin and firepower. At the moment we're a bit light on all three." Turning towards the exit, he Korva on the shoulder. "I need to know everything you cal learn: militia numbers and who their leaders are, where they go to relax or train or keep their supplies. Thrune outposts, known spies or sympathizers, scuttlebutt on what they're planning next. We need it all."
"Alexite, I believe we have an engagement with the lovely Miss Merlot and her sister Chardonnay. The rest of you are of course welcome to join us."
Are we starting a new week then? Having our team do Gather Information this time.

Pip Fenstrad |
Pip fastens the green, rune-stitched cloak across his shoulders, and marvels at how the fabric pools around his feet.
"May need to be hemmed, eh?" he says with a smirk, but his demeanor soon turns serious. "About the more...monetary items we've found - the coins, the pearls, that copper bracelet, and what not - how are we handling those? I know it might sound greedy, but I was curious whether we would be splitting those up or stashing them into some sort of coffer."
For the first week, are we skipping the Supporter Attrition loyalty check in the Upkeep phase because we have no supporters yet?
Indra Meru |
Indra eyes the halfling as he considers what to do with the spoils. Hmph, who says HE gets the cloak. Whatever, I have a new whip to play with. She grins to herself, probably looking a little malevolent as she considers the fun she'll have.
"The items that are useful we keep and use. The rest can be sold. Although I think trophies can be kept. We will likely need a fair amount of gold on hand. Revolutions aren't cheap."
Pip, are you asking about how much should go to the group vs how much should go to individuals?
Pip Fenstrad |
Yeah. In character, while Pip understands we'll need a considerable amount of money to fuel this rebellion, he is still keen on both sending money to his family and donating to the temple. He's never seen this much wealth before, and he's perhaps over excited.
Also, it would not take much convincing - or even just a stern look - to get him to surrender the cloak of resistance.

Sara came down the stairs to the hideout. Her bow was fastened on her back with quivver at her side like normal. However Ruina was nowhere to be seen. Instead, tucked into a handbag thay Sara carried over her shoulder, was a bla k pomeranian that did not look happy to be where she was.
"How goes things?" she asks. When she notices Indra she reaches into her handbag, the pup shifting aside to help, and pulled out a white leather belt.
"Not my best work, but I'm still learning and proud of how it came out," she said before rolling the belt and tossing it to Indra.
i have no opinion about the boots though feel the cloak should go to either whoever has the worst saves or would benefit the most.
Pip Fenstrad |
Like a scolded child, Pip shucks off the cloak and hands it back.
My saves are already pretty good. Halfling luck and all.
"Fine work, Sara. Not only is the leather craftsmanship impeccable, but it seems to have magically turned Ruina into a slip of a pup. Hmm, Pup Fenstrad..." he muses, rubbing his chin.

Yes, bypassing supporter attrition for now. Laria and Rexus aren’t going anywhere!
And yes, we’ll begin the next week of downtime.
Korva nods to Orrias and beckons her sisters. [b]”We’re on it. See you here in seven days to report.”[/ooc] The tengu discuss a plan for a minute in their own, croaking cant, then depart one at a time over the course of the following two hours.
As for treasure distribution, just make sure to mark it on the loot sheet! And let me know if you want me to make a “Rebellion” column to more easily funnel money into the coffers of your resistance.
Indra Meru |
seriously Pip, I didn't mean you had to give up the cloak! I'm of the opinion that sooner or later everyone will get one by hook or crook. If we go by lowest saves though, that would appear to be Alex. Orrias' aren't stellar either

Really?? Didn't realize mine were so lousy...keep in mind I'll frequently be under the influence! ;)
Alexite grins at Orrias's invitation and rolls to his feet, springing forward. "NOW you're speaking my language, friend! C'mon, let's get out of here and fine a nice wine bar. Blondie? Blue? Pipsqueak? Rex, I know you're a no, you're good."
On the way out, he grabs the boots. "Anyone mind?" He assuming that no one seems to, he leaves with them tucked into his belt, to change into later.
I don't feel the need for the cloak, since I just got a magic item. Also, meant to mention this earlier...I'll leave the silver morningstar in the hideout unless we have specific plans for it.
The next week, Alexite goes about his life much as he normally does, though he pops into the hideout below the Long Roads Cafe every once in a while to see how Rexus is doing. But most of his days are spent snoozing or wondering, while his nights are spent dicing, drinking, and laughing with Will (and anyone else willing to join them).

Indra takes a moment to appreciate the belt before putting it on. She makes a few adjustments to make sure she can quickly reach a dagger or spell component should the need arise. "Thank you, Sara. I appreciate it." And she does. She isn't used to having new clothing, let alone something made for her specifically. She smiles, hoping for friendly, though it probably looks a bit sinister as usual.
Hmm, these people are becoming more useful all the time. Though I may have to have a chat with the lush if he continues to call me 'blue.' At least it's better than 'pipsqueak.'
herbalist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
During the week, Indra brings down a number of tools to the Nest to allow her to package herbs and whatnot: measuring spoons, an extra boline, that sort of thing. It's a pretty slow week. After harvesting so many plants last week, many of the small gardens she visits aren't quite ready to be harvested yet. And Thrune's dictates have already cut into her business. Mint was one of her biggest sellers. She transplants a few cuttings to an area near where the sewer lets out, hidden from the thoroughfares. It may be more difficult to sell, but mint grows quite well in conditions less than suitable for many plants.

It doesn't look like the Cloak of Elvenkind is taken, I'd be happy to have that.
Continuing his researches, Orrias pores over his textbooks and experiments with his alchemical formulae. During one jaunt down to the Wasp Nest he tests out one one his concoctions--and abruptly shifts to resemble Indra. The not-Indra whoops with delight after checking its appearance in a small mirror.
"This is fantastic!" the disguised Orrias gushes. "Do you see what this means? With my new elixir I can do more than merely disguise myself as a 'tall, hark haired human' or what have you, but I can actually RESEMBLE SPECIFIC PEOPLE! Imagine the kind of intelligence we could gather by striding into a guardhouse, not as some generic guard but as the officers themselves! We could plant false orders and fake reports under their very noses!"
Elated, Orrias begins putting together a list of items useful for forgeries, before glumly remembering the state of the rebellion's coffers. "Perhaps...we could sell a few items off? Does anyone really need this morningstar, or that Thrune pendant? I don't mean to be greedy of course, my excitement sometimes gets the best of me, is all."

Pip emerges from the garderobe and greets the person who he thinks is Indra, but then he witnesses another Indra bringing down some of her herbalist gear and his face blanches.
"Have mercy, Calistria," he whispers. "Is this because I haven't fixed your nose yet?
He wants to ask about the progress they've made on securing a rowboat for using the watery passage out of the Wasp's Nest, but he figures that another, very imminent discussion will take precedence.
Therefore, Pip wordlessly excuses himself for Crissali's to help with the weekly dusting before the first of the week's performances.
Perform (Comedy): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27
Towards the end of the week, he visits his family. With profuse apologies for being a stranger for a few days, he brings along a bit of the money he's earned - exchanged into silver and copper, of course.
"Servant slips with gold are surely suspicious," as his father would say.
Alexite Tauranor |
"Uh, given how tough those slime devils we fought were, I say we keep the morningstar," Alexite comments, looking deeply concerned by the presence of two Indras. "It's silver, we might want it."

Indra is not amused at Orrias' disguise, but takes advantage of it anyways. She walks over and says, "Turn around. I want to see how I look from behind. Hmph, I may want to start wearing heels." She turns and wanders back towards her work. "And I suggest you start learning how to walk if you're gonna pull a disguise like that off. My hips sway more. See." As she sits down she looks at him deadly serious. "Oh, and one more thing. Don't use that particular disguise ever again without my permission." As if to accentuate her statement, she snips the head off a rather phallic root with a grin.
At his suggestion of selling items, she notes, "Fat lot of good the disguise will do if it doesn't come with the appropriate accessories, like the Pendant."
if it really isn't worth keeping, by all means, feel free to sell it, but if it's needed as part of a disguise, we might want to keep it
Orrias Lelitaern |
Unabashed, the pretend Indra tips the real one a lascivious wink and sashays away. "Like this?" the elf chuckles as the disguise fades away. "I apologize if I gave offense, and you make a good point about the pendant furthering a potential disguise. I'm merely impatient to acquire the tools of the trade."

Will catches Alexite one night in the midst of the revelry, as another friend goes to get the next round of drinks. "Look, I don't wanna pry, you 'n the family have enough goin' on with these new proclamations. But where'd you go last week? If you're gonna take a trip somewhere, why not bring your best friend? Unless," he gives you that look that drunk people give when they think they're having a moment of revelation, "You took a new kinda friend somewhere? Ah, who is she, you sneak! And when you going to bring 'er around here?!"

Pip's family is incredibly grateful for the new influx of coins. "You spend too much on us, son. How do you afford to live here?" your mother asks. "Don't tell me that bookseller gave you a raise of some kind - she doesn't sound the type."
- - - - - - - - - -
Rexus listens to your good natured antics with good humor, and the occasional chuckle. At one point he cries out in some dismay when a pile of documents slides off his makeshift table. "Confound it! There isn't even a breeze here, how did that happen?! Bah, I must be working too much, I can't even keep my hands from messing up my work. I had just deciphered something about a defensive measure that the original Silver Ravens used, called the "Song of Silver". While not giving any details like lyrics or music, it must have been potent indeed - it kept the city protected from enemies. You should keep an eye out in your goings-on to see if you can learn more."

Later in the week, Korva and her sisters report back to Orrias. "We've been hearing a bit more about the places that burned down on that Night of Ashes that the locals are going on about. A few weeks back, yes? With our friend's family home," she indicates Rexus, "Bein' part of it. Can't be pure coincidence that the Thrashing Badger, that's a bar here, also the Silver Star, one of the shops, burned down all on the same night. Have you six gone to check out those ruins yet? Might be something what hasn't been picked over yet, if you keep a close eye out."
Sara and Orrias, go ahead and make your weekly income check if you want. You have two leads from this week that you can try to track down: checking out the burned sites, or hunting up information on the Song of Silver. What do you do?

Nerris jumps up as if she forgot something important and says,That's right. I'm going to buy something relatively expensive that could help us out. I was just wondering outside of healing potions what sort of potions and alchemical items would you like me to make. I've always wanted to get an alchemy kit since I saw one in the local shop. But its so expensive.... So expensive."
After hearing about the two rumors Nerris walks about and says,"I vote that we investigate the burnt buildings. We probably could get away with saying that idle curiosity got the best of us. Researching the song would be a hell of a lot more conspicuous. Though first Rexus I want to take a look at you. If you have a health problem I want to know. "

At the hideout, Alexite nods. "I agree with Books here. Let's check out these fires...the Night of Ashes can't have been some kinda coincidence." He straightens up from the spot he'd been leaning against the wall. "I have another question, too...how d'you all feel about bringin' new people into this? Are we ready for that?"

Indra drums her fingers on the table. "Depends on the people. It would need to be people who are trust-worthy, particularly if they were to be shown this place." She gestures around. "Best if they also had a grudge against Thrune. And some sort of loyalty to the city."
Of course, it would also help if we had some sort of insurance against people turning us in. I believe I will look into new recruits personally. Make sure we have something to use against them to ensure their loyalty. did I mention she has trust issues?
"I, too, would like to check out the burned buildings. I had meant to before but it got lost in all we've been doing. I'd like to vote for heading to the Silver Star first."
Orrias Lelitaern |
"What are we hoping to find there? Clues? Caches? Something else?" Orrias isn't opposed to the idea, but he likes to have a goal in mind. "Nerris, my research would also benefit from a few alembics and the like. If we come into some coin shortly I'd be happy to split the cost with you."
Indra Meru |
"Ideally we'd find clues, about whether there were any survivors, or where they may have gone. We have suspicions about who caused the fires and why, of course. It may help if we are able to discover physical proof of this; that may help sway others to our cause. I would assume the places have been picked over, but it's possible an undiscovered cache may remain in any of them."
Pip Fenstrad |
Filu laughs softly, not realizing that her son hadn't meant that as a height-based joke.
"I've actually been more successful with my performances. I dare say, I might actually have genuine fans. I'm not sure what else to call people who toss so many coins my way."
Pip has always striven to avoid telling outright lies to his parents. Instead, he offers what he has come to call "omitted truths." After all, it is certainly true that the money he's brought to help his family has been from performances. It does his mother no harm to leave out mention of where he goes after those performances.
"Well, at least they're throwing coins and not rocks," she says with a chuckle. "And to think your father actually believes you get your sense of humor from him."
He laughs along with his mother, but soon catches her eyeing the signet ring on his finger. Blast! He forgot to take it off.
"In seriousness, though, if we need a cover story, we could play the part of ragpickers rooting around for scraps. With Old Barzai at the economy's helm, a new gaggle of scavengers would hardly stand out. The guard would scarcely dare to look at us, much less approach us with questions."

Back in the alley...
Your initial search is limited by the darkness (for some of you) and your desire to remain at least somewhat unobtrusive. Unfortunately for Indra, this means missing a key detail - the rubble isn't exactly stable! However, with nearly perfect reflexes (Nat 20!), she dodges out of the way of being dropped further into the rubble and buried with debris.
Just as the commotion settles down, Orrias hears someone coming down the street, and in the distance he sees a trio of militia members coming towards your position. The five of you all do your best to slip deep into the shadows... and - SOMEHOW - they completely fail to notice ANY of you, and keep right on walking into the night.
If you want to accost them as they retreat, you would easily get the drop on them and have a surprise round. You could also just let them go, and continue your search of the Silver Star. What do you do?

Sara's week was uneventful. Having recently gone to Castilla Manor, she had no need to return for another week or so. At home with Mikhail, Ruina was often in her wolf form though whenever they went out together, Her armor was donned and a smaller, less aggressive form was put forth. "You still amaze me," Sara said the first time Ruina shrank in size.

Back at the wasp nest, Sara hung back mostly. Listening to plans and other discussions putting in a word or two when she felt needed. Careful with the other, she helped in search for anything that may be of use towards the cause.

No worries! Glad you're all right.
As Sara, Indra, and Nerris dive into the rubble once more (after the patrol passes), they eventually come upon a small iron coffer. Though battered and blackened on the outside, the latch has held the lid firmly closed. Inside, you find five scrolls written in a flowing hand, and almost a dozen potions, each nestled carefully in a leather carrying case.
- a scroll of cure moderate wounds
- a scroll of daylight
- a scroll of remove blindness/deafness
- two scrolls of remove disease
The remainder of your search, though incredibly thorough, turns up nothing further of help to your cause. There are no bodies to be found in the rubble, if anyone was caught inside when it burned, and it would take weeks of work to clear the rubble for the reconstruction of the music store.
There are two other locations that you could investigate: The Victocora Estate (though before you left, Rexus would have expressed doubt as to whether there's anything he missed in his nights of combing through the ruins), and the Thrashing Badger.
