Right - I missed Marik's trait there... but yeah, it doesn't really matter right now (and I'm not re-writing that lot!).

Tony grimaces as he slowly recovers consciousness and looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Thoughts drift through his head painfully...
Well, this is a fine situation we're in now.
Note to self; Strangle Shisa first chance.
I wonder how Grognard of the Jungle would get out of this?...

He tries to slip his bonds-
Escape Artist vs DC25: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

He tries to break his bonds-
Strength vs DC23: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

He slumps a little, tired for the moment.

Male Human Paladin 2

Groaning as consciousness greets him, Aerodus strains his head to take in the surroundings.

Perception (to see if guarded): 1d20 ⇒ 2 Nice to see some things stay the same.

Seeing the state of his fellow survivors, his looks at Aery's bandaged stump with attention:

Heal Check(on Aerys/Anyone): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 (see if diseased?/sick?)

Once that is done he hangs his head and whispers "I'm sorry...." after sighing and realizing where he is he looks around again and finds Taki missing: "Wait, where is the priestess??" he urgently whispers again.

Flexing his arms, Aerodus tries his bonds:
Str:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 BOOYA! Starting to go Aerodus's way again!

Hopefully breaking them, he silently gives a swift prayer to his deity "Thank you goddess, for granting me strength!", and tries to sneak over to the others and undo their bonds. Closest first I guess!

Stealth:1d20 ⇒ 20 ITS THE LACK OF CLOTHES! HE IS An unstoppable juggernaut!!

where were you earlier double 20's?!?!

Edit: Will Get the dagger/go to marik to find about dagger. Hopefully get it and proceed to cut the other's bindings.

Feeling the hot sun against her skin, she opens her eyes slowly and takes stock of her surroundings. Hearing the voices of the others nearby, she mutters, "Ok, that didn't work out so well."

She looks around at her fellow captives, and raises an eyebrow at the other half-elf's arm. Quickly, she looks around the pen to see if her dagger landed where she threw it.

perception take 10 = 10 + 11 = 21

She watches as Aerodus snaps his bonds and says, "Aero.. retrieve my dagger over by the wall," and motions with her head towards where it lays. "You can start cutting the others free."

With aching muscles, she begins to try and wiggle free of her bonds..

Escape Artist (TC) Take 20 = 20 + 6 = 26

After what seems like an eternity, she feels her hands slip free.

Ok, she's delirious.. stars are suns right?? :) I knew I shouldn't have edited what I originally started writing. No wonder Aero couldn't see the dagger.. it's dark and his blinky-light rock thingy is not with him.

The Exchange

In the interests of fairness I'll say that Marik failed to cast that last colour spray but didn't lose the spell... of course, without a spell component pouch it may not do him much good anyway...

Quote:
"Wait, where is the priestess??"

'Oh for crying out loud!' retorts Gelik in an angry hissed whisper, 'she's not a "priestess" you dimwit - she's a cannibal witch! The one who came up with the plan which landed all of us in here, if I'm not mistaken! If only someone had suggested it may be a bad idea... While I'm all for playing "pacify the paladin" I've just about had enough...'

Bursting his bonds in a display of naked heroics (thank the gods for strategically placed shadows...) Aerodus quickly follows Shisa and Marik's directions to the dagger before setting about cutting the others free.

When Gelik is freed he takes a moment to rub his wrists, then hurries over to Jask's side, laying a hand on the priest as he quietly chants arcane words...

Eyes fluttering open, Jask stares at you all. For a moment he tries to speak, but only a small rasping sound escapes his parched lips. Taking a moment to close his eyes and concentrate, the middle-aged Garundi man mutters a prayer to Nethys and cups his hands in front of himself. A moment or two of chanting and water fills Jask's hands - water which he at first sips, then gulps down...

As Jask recovers, Gelik moves over to Sasha, then Ishirou, reviving each in turn. Jask follows as soon as he's able, to supply water to both.

'That's it,' whispers Gelik, 'I'm all out of healing.'

Nodding, Jask moves over to Aerys, takes a moment to examine her bandaged stump, shaking his head, then casts a healing spell of his own, placing his finger to his cracked lips as Aerys awakens with a start, then creating water for her to drink.

With the prisoners all nude, it's now impossible to miss the fact that Sasha sports a tattoo between her shoulder blades - two crimson insect legs, crossed to form an 'N' shape... the symbol of the infamous Red Mantis assassins...

Leaving a concerned Ishirou to tend to Aerys, Jask moves back to huddle up with the rest of you...

'I can cast three more spells of healing,' he explains softly, 'but I suppose who I cast them on will depend on the plan... there is a plan, isn't there?'

Glancing over to Aerys, Sasha rubs the stump where the pinky finger of her left hand is missing (an old wound she had even back on the ship) as her jaw sets in a grim line,

'Kill them all,' she states, 'That's the only plan now.'

'That's all fine and dandy I'm sure,' sneers Gelik, 'but I vote for us not dying to be some part of whatever plan we come up with - I couldn't care less what happens to the Thrunefang right now, as long as we're not dinner.'

'Well I couldn't care less if we die on this rock or not, right now,' Sasha hisses back, 'as long as they all die...'

Marik:
As the group discuss their plans in hushed whispers, you feel Yipper near... sure enough, you glance up to seem him perched on the nearby wall, looking at you with what you feel is genuine concern...

Shisa takes a brief moment to stretch a bit to loosen up some of her sore muscles. "Well, we're in no shape to fight," she says, her words a bit slurred due to a fat lip and swollen jaw sustained during her beating. "We have no weapons other than a dagger. We do however, have an element of surprise that we may not have later as they think we're tied."

Pausing a moment, she brushes the blood matted hair from her face and continues. "I think we should try to gather some weapons, preferably our own, then head back to the grove to recover before venturing further into this Cayden cursed camp. We may not get another chance."

Male Human Paladin 2

Glowering at Gelik for a moment, Aerodus holds his words back. Moving over to the now freed captives, reaches over to touch Shisa/Tony shoulders. "May the goddess relieve your pain." he whispers.

LoH: Shisa 1d6 ⇒ 5
LoH: Tony 1d6 ⇒ 3

"If our more... stealthy comrades could retrieve our belongings we would stand a better chance against the odds. Even if we retreat, we should take advantage of the night to do as much damage as possible." As his eyes smolder with anger. "But we need to do it quickly and quietly! They most likely have that lizard of theirs on guard." he reaffirms. "As for healing, I may be able to assist but once more, after that all I have left to give is my life."

Its on you stealthy/sneaky/smart folks!! Good luck!!

Male Human Paladin 2

"For weapons we could try those..." Pointing to the stakes in the ground, Aerodus tries to pull some out.

Str Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

"Or the rope..." Gathering some pieces together he tries to tie them and wrap them around his wrists.

Craft Check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

Maybe we can use these as improvised weapons? Thinking, rope gauntlets/stakes, sure beats trying to punch someone!!

Feeling a little better, Tony will pick up a stake and twirl it around easily. He seems to have no problem with improvised weapons.
"Alright then, any idea where our weapons are?"

Tony Nedraid wrote:

Thinking for a moment, she replies, "According to what Taki was saying, there should be a storage hut. If I remember correctly, it should be to the east a bit. She holds out her hand to Aerodus and asks, "Dagger please?"

Prof, are these buildings sitting on the ground or elevated? ie can one crawl under? 2d question is.. do the walls appear to be constructed with nails or lashed together with vines / ropes?

Male Human Paladin 2

Lost in thought, it takes Aerodus a few moments before: "Oh, here you go." handing Shisa back her dagger. Satisfied with his work, he uses the last of his healing on Marik, "You will be more useful than I in our plan." he explains.

LoH Marik: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Turning to Jask, Aerodus lays out his plan "Your remaining blessings should go to the volunteers. With luck, they should be able to remove the guards quickly before they can raise the alarm." Turning to address the group at large "Who here is confident in their skills at going unseen and unheard?"

Diplo if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Gauging the wall's height taps his chin, "We could help the volunteers over the wall, if they would be willing to stand on shoulders..." how high are the walls? do we have to climb to get up to the 'butchery' floor? It is raised

Plan:
1: Stealthers get our stuff (Tony, Shisa, + NPC Stealthers)
2: Stealth kills guards (stealthily!)
3: Bring back stuff, we regear

This is where there is probably some disagreement comes up.

Make a break for tree spirit island? Or sneak over to Malkinda's hut and kill her in the middle of the night, her hut was a bit away from the village, and she only has one skeleton left! Loot her hut, (maybe she has potions....) and continue our night assault?

Q & A time...

Quote:
Maybe we can use these as improvised weapons? Thinking, rope gauntlets/stakes, sure beats trying to punch someone!!

Rope gauntlets are possible - they take a minute to wrap and a minute to soak (but Jask can provide water for that), plus you only need the Exotic Weapon Proficiency to inflict slashing instead of bludgeoning damage, for anyone else they just make your unarmed attacks 'armed' and lethal. The stakes are pretty much logs pounded into the ground, so not really suitable as even improvised weapons (unless you happened to be large sized or something).

Quote:
Prof, are these buildings sitting on the ground or elevated? ie can one crawl under? 2d question is.. do the walls appear to be constructed with nails or lashed together with vines / ropes?

There's a small crawlspace under each hut, yes. The walls of the prisoner pen are bamboo and driftwood, lashed together with vines (but also pounded firmly into the ground, of course). The huts are wooden with palm-frond roofs, but are of a more sturdy construction (logs, wooden pegs, and vines).

Quote:
how high are the walls? do we have to climb to get up to the 'butchery' floor? It is raised

The fence is a little over ten feet high. It's a DC 10 Climb check to get over it (hence Sisha's failure on a '9'...), or a DC 23 Strength check to break it. The 'butchery' is constructed like the other huts, the elevated floor having a small crawlspace under it. Steps lead up to it from the prisoner pen, so no need for Climb checks. There's a low bamboo railing along the side of the butchery floor open to the prisoner pen, with a simple gate where the steps lead up. The butchery itself has a wooden door and two windows (just openings, no glass) - one facing north (to the central clearing) at the eastern end of the building, the other facing north (into a guard room) to the western end of the building... so yeah, guards could glance your way at any time (although the drop from the window to the pen is quite a bit, so unless you cause them to bother making a proper check they may not spot anything amiss).

"We could help the volunteers over the wall, if they would be willing to stand on shoulders..."

'If we can't get over that wall unaided, then the whole thing's doomed to failure anyway...' whispers Sasha.

Quote:
"Thank you but that was completely unnecessary as I don't intend to engage these cannibals in hand to hand combat again."

'I'm pretty sure you "engaged them in hand-to-hand combat" about as much as I did,' mutters Gelik, 'but I agree it's not an experience I'm planning on repeating either...'

'What spells have you available?' asks Jask, 'Lord Nethys has currently granted me the ability to create water, sense poisons, purify food and drink, and to aid slightly in one's resistance to adverse effects - orisons which were proving helpful to day to day survival here.'

'I have cantrips to sense magic and direction, cause an object to glow like a torch, move small objects at range and, of course, prestidigition in all its wonderful glory.' replies Gelik.

As the spellcasters are talking, Sasha holds out her hands for Aerodus to wrap them, ready for soaking into rope gauntlets,

'For what it's worth,' she whispers, 'I don't believe Taki would betray you. At that age love is an all-encompasing thing, not easily ignored... That does mean we shouldn't leave without her, of course - if we run, chances are she won't be here... at least not in one piece... by the time we come back...'

Quote:

She casts a glance over at Gelik and quips, "I'm not sure what that pre whatever you said is. Does it help?"

Turning to Marik, she asks, "Marik, can Yipper fly over to where ever the storage hut is and back to see if there are any guards around? He's likely to attract less attention since he's not walking on two legs."

Finally, she turns to the others. "If the storage building is where I think it is, I ran by it on my way here. There's woods behind it we can cut through to stay out of sight if we stay on the edge. Everyone can wait there while we sneak in to get our gear."

Slipping into Elvish she looks at Aerys.

Elvish:
"Aerys, you'll need to be their eyes. It's dark and these humans keep needing a glow stone to see."

She thinks for a moment then continues, "We can always burn them out. Light a fire underneath the huts near the doors. Cook them as they wanted to cook us." Her voice is flat and devoid of emotion making it difficult to tell if she is joking..

Being only human and unable to see in total darkness, can Tony realistically sneak about? Or should he stick with the rest?

Realistically? yes. It's not that difficult to move quietly in the dark with a bit of training, which I'd assume Tony has since he's a rogue. Plus, with the stars out, I wouldn't think it'd be 'total' darkness.. be dark, but there's also any campfire, moonlight, etc. JMHO

Not to mention that Sasha and the cannibals are probably in the same boat!! Also, 3 rogues are better than 2 rogues for ganging up/sneak attacking!!

Question about the plan... are the sneakers going to bring stuff back? (I imagine this would be hard over the fence), or going to secure the hut and comeback and tell the rest of us? or are we all going out over the fence and hide out in the jungle while you guys secure the hut then go in and regear?

Aerys glances towards Shisa at the sound of her elven words, but it's hard to tell if she even registers what was said, a far-away gaze in her eyes as she cradles the stump where her left hand used to be...

Marik:
You get the impression that Yipper doesn't know where Taki is, but he seems willing to go look for her...

Looking towards Marik for a few moments, Yipper suddenly takes off, into the night sky...

Easily vaulting the pen wall, Tony's hardly landed on the far side when a cry goes up from across the central clearing. Opposite where he's landed (between the prisoner pen and the storage hut), beyond the communal fire pit and across the clearing, there's a large hut which Taki indicated was the communal sleeping space (at least for the men in the tribe... the women all sleep with Klorak in the tower...). Raised ten feet in the air on thick stilts behind the communal hut is what appears to be a guard tower or lookout post - a lookout post manned by two cannibals who even now are yelling blue murder and pointing towards Tony...

Infernal:
'Awake! Awake! The meat is escaping!'

Moments later Shisa lands next to Tony... just as a pair of javelins are hurled by the guards in the tower... One thuds into the ground by Shisa's feet, the other sails overhead into the dense jungle behind the roguish pair...

Oh, and BTW this really isn't one of those 'take 10' situations... General wandering through the jungle, sure... nerve-wracking escape from deadly cannibal camp... not so much... ;)

There are plenty of stones and bits of wood lying around to be used as improvised weapons if Tony wants... the cannibals aren't that tidy...

As the rest of the group try to scale the wall (not one of them rolling above an 8...) and Aerodus moves to aid them, two more guards vault through the open widow from the guardroom between the lighthouse and the butchery, landing on the butchery floor, rusted old cutlasses in hand, and charge towards the escaping prisoners...

So... that'd be initiative and declared actions again... sorry...

Watching as the two javelins sail a bit too close for her comfort, she looks over at Tony and quietly say, Grab it and head into the trees behind that hut!" Without looking back, she quickly scoops up a fist-sized rock and heads into the trees behind what she hopes is the storage shed.

Marik moves with Tony towards the storage shed. "I've got to find my component pouch" he thinks to himself

The Exchange

Heading up the steps to the butchery floor, Aerodus is quickly felled by the lead guard before he can even swing a punch... Aerodus takes 3 Hit Points of damage and falls over...

Meanwhile Marik finally makes it over the wall and, along with Shisa and Tony, scurries behind the (hopefully) storage hut...

Jask and Gelik also make it over the wall... but the only sign of the others is the sound of a scuffle going on inside the prisoner pen...

As the Garundi priest and the gnomish Pathfinder reach the cover behind the hut, both gasping for breath, a few more javelins rain down, and sounds of the rest of the tribe waking up can be heard coming from the direction of the communal hut...

'Aerys didn't look like she was about to move,' Jask notes, glancing back towards the prisoner pen with a worried expression, 'and Ishirou wasn't about to leave her. Sasha just seemed eager for a fight... Not that I can blame her, after what they put her and Aerys through...'

Chanting a few quick arcane words, then licking his finger and holding it up for a moment, Gelik points into the dense jungle behind the hut,

'If I'm not mistaked, about ten feet through that lot is the witch's hut... assuming young Taki didn't steer us wrong on that point. From what she told us it seems the rest of 'em are scared of the old bat... perhaps that would be a better place for us to "lay low" for a bit?'

Next round actions please!

Listening to the sounds of a scuffle coming from the pens and the javelins crashing through the trees, she looks over at the others. "We need weapons and armor, but perhaps Master Gelik has the right of it. If we can kill the witch and hide in her hut, we may be safe for a while," she says, keeping her voice low.

With dagger in hand, she begins to slip through the bushes, relying on the darkness to help hide her in the trees.

The Exchange

Forcing a path through the dense jungle bordering the Thrunefang camp is tough going... not to mention painful (especially considering the group's state of undress)... Master Gelik curses and complains, but seems to be having the easiest time, aided by his smaller stature...

For the rest of you, two DC 20 Escape Artist checks are needed... although you can re-try them if you have to. If you've not gotten at least one success in three tries, then you'll still be struggling to enter the jungle by the time the cannibals get to your position...

Anyone who makes it through...:
You emerge into a small clearing, mostly taken up by a single wooden hut with a palm-frond thatched roof. The hut appears to consist of two rooms - one maybe ten by fifteen feet, and a smaller annex maybe ten by ten feet in size. There are no entrances on the side of the hut you emerge from the jungle (scraped and bruised) facing, but around the other side the smaller room has one external wooden door. On the side where the door is, the path leads off east, turning towards the north after maybe twenty feet (and, one assumes, then coming up behind the skeleton pen).

Lucky, lucky bastard...

Heading off into the thick growth proves to be more difficult than she expected. Branches scratch her skin and vines threaten to entangle her as she tries to force her way through as quietly as possible.

Emerging from the trees, she motions Tony to go one direction while she heads off in the other, hoping to catch the witch between them by surprise.

So... we like the dicebot now, huh? :)

A foul combination of smells eminates from the witch's hut - a hideous mix of body odor, bitter alchemical waste, and monkey...

Both of the rooms of the hut have simple windows, but these are closed from the inside with wooden shutters at the moment. Snoring (not to mention the occassional bout of flatulence) can be heard coming from the larger of the two rooms...

Only because it let me get through that stretch of trees.. I know it's just lying.. in wait.. patiently.. waiting to pounce.

Slipping up to the back door with dagger in hand, Shisa pauses but a moment before slipping inside as quietly as she can..

OOps, forgot about the rock she picked up.. she'll have to toss it into the trees (away from the hut, opposite side) before she can open the door to enter.

Tony creeps around to the other side, seeking an enterance. If none there, he will go around to the side Shisa is on.

Shisa and Tony both slip in the 'back' (and only) door to the hut. Lifting the latch with the blade of Shisa's dagger is easy enough, and the wooden door swings quietly open...

The first, smaller, room appears to be a workshop of some kind, as it's cluttered with foul-smelling alchemical mixtures, medicines, balms, potions... and even the remains of a meal (dwarf jerky!). A cauldren bubbles a little as it sits in the dying embers of a fire. The rest of the room is an odd assortment of boxes and tables, which appear to have been salvaged from a variety of ships, all covered in herbs, animal parts, unidentifiable liquids hissing and popping in bowls and jars, and other ingredients of the witch's craft. A wooden door to the right seems to lead into the larger room... where the snoring is coming from...

A variety of the items lying around the workshop look like the could potentially be useful, but it'll take a while (and proper examination) to identify exactly what they all are...
