Technical blather for Bahram:
Quote:
*holding up a hand and rubbing temple with other* Let me get this right. I now have a familiar? As in: Improved Familiar?

Not quite - she's not a familiar (with the bonuses associated with that particular Class Ability); technically it's a Lesser Planar Binding spell which Bahram did the spell completion trigger for.

Quote:
Ok. Zaina is bound to me right? No matter that I didn't create the spell, I finished it and so she's still bound to Bahram? I'm wondering if it would be safe to tell her the truth so we can get info from her or if Bahram will have to bluff his way through this.

From what she said, and how she acted, it seems like she doesn't want to know if Bahram isn't the guy who summoned her. Essentially, she was stuck until she got a chance to fulfil the 'deal' (whatever that may have been) - she's got no chance of doing that if the guy never shows up (or if he's dead), so she's quite happy to play along with the idea that Bahram is her 'Master' - as long as it's enough to 'fool' whatever magic is involved, then she's happy! Overtly telling her the 'truth' would probably be bad - it's kinda' a 'plausable deniability' situation: don't ask, don't tell, (and don't poke the magic)...

Quote:
Can you tell about the genie binder prestige class? I can get access to it in the module from a friend but was wondering how you want to play it.

Bahram can learn all about it in character if he takes the time to read up on it, but OOC one of the requirements for entry is a non-good alignment - the class is all about enslaving genies at the end of the day - so Bahram's too much of a nice guy to take it anyway. You also need to be able to cast Planar Binding and have 11 ranks in Knowledge (planes), as well as a few other hefty prerequistites, so I doubt it's one to worry about for a good long time yet!

The Daivrat 'genie friend' class from the Qadira book is more Bahram's cup of tea - lower entry requirements, and it's about getting along with genies, not enslaving them. He'll still need to be at least level 7 to have a chance of fulfiling the prerequistites though.

now that i have my advanced player guide, is it okay to use? btw, it is AWSOME!!!!!!!

Quote:

Sure, use it... but not in this game... ;)

No, seriously, I've not even seen the thing yet so no APG stuff. If and when I get hold of it I'll take a look and see if anything in there fits my concepts for the game, but I doubt I'll be allowing any 'retcons' of characters or anything like that.

To be honest, with the amount of APG talk on these boards I'm starting to have that reaction you get when everyone goes on about some new movie you just have to see and you end up never wanting to see the thing ever, and loathing it out of principle... but I'm sure I'll pick up the APG at some point...

m dwarven page 18 druid 5th

okay. understand.

Blather to ProffPotts:

Spoiler:
I actually like to plan my chars, going for concept and utility rather than min/max stat crunch (although I can be guilty of that too). I was thinking of heading for loremaster, not nesicariry a high int one. Int can be augmented with magic. But I will see if I can get my hands on the quadira handbook, Daivrat sounds interresting.

The Exchange

Quote:

Watching intently as Zaina prosesses Bahram's words he breaths a sigh of relief as realizes they seem to hold within the bargain as she was still there.

knowledge plains 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 do I?

Almost forgot: yup - he can know this without the need for a roll, just using what he's observed (and the various previous rolls he's recently made).

Quote:
... Daivrat sounds interresting.

Prestige Class related blather:
Okay, since you like to plan ahead, and just in case the class does interest you:

Requirements:
Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 7 ranks, Knowledge (the planes) 7 ranks, Spellcraft 5 ranks
Feats: Spell focus (conjuration)
Languages: Aquan, Auran, Ignan or Terran (i.e. at least one of those four)
Special: Peaceful contact with a true genie (djinni, efreeti, marid, or shaitan) - (i.e. Zaina, although a genie, doesn't count as the required contact for the purposes of this class's entry requirements)

Class Summery: you drop a level of arcane spellcasting at 1st level in the class, but the rest of the progression (to level 10) is full caster. You get an 'elemental focus' (basically 'spell focus' with spells using the chosen element), bonuses on interaction and knowledge skills to do with genies, bonuses to caster level when conjuring genies, a zhyen familiar at level 6, you transform into an outsider (native) type (with associated bonuses) at level 10, but the key class feature is the 'spell-fetch' which is a special conjured genie (used in this case as a 'special effect') which gathers unusual spell energy for you - meaning that when you prepare spells you can send your spell-fetch to get you temporary access to spells you don't normally know (even spells not on the sorcerer / wizard spell list) - the max level of spell increases as you increase in class levels, and they're a little higher level to cast (a bit like using meta-magic feats) - but you gain the greatest amount of spell versatility of pretty much any class.

Prestige Class Blather:

Spoiler:
Interrested. No question.
Could the zhyen familiar be Zaina? It would be fun rp wise to actually build up a connection to my familiar instead of *poof* you have a familiar. Plus, I like her. I understand if you don't want to answer this spoiler wise.
Also, one of Bahram's class features is the ability to turn any elemental dmg spell into electric. Would the elemental focus stack with that too? For instance a scorching ray spell tured into electicity ray?

edit:
What exactly is it that I know? The djinni hierarcy? The eternal war of the genies? The templars of the five winds bit makes no sence to me personaly. Who is Jhavhul and what is the Scroll of Kakishon?

btw:

Spoiler:
The books I have are the Core Rulebook, The Campaign Setting, Bestiery, Gods and Magic and the Falcon's Hollow stuff. Anything in there I should read up on?

The Exchange

Further Prestige Class Blather:
Quote:
Could the zhyen familiar be Zaina?

Only time will tell...

Quote:

Yup - it's basically a spell focus for spells with the correct elemental descriptor, and your Bloodline Arcana can give a spell that descriptor.

Quote:

Sorry - I thought you meant the Knowledge check to relate to the 'bargain' holding up. No, for all that other stuff it was a naff roll... ;)

Books related stuff:
Quote:
The books I have are the Core Rulebook, The Campaign Setting, Bestiery, Gods and Magic and the Falcon's Hollow stuff. Anything in there I should read up on?

Not as far as I know.

blah blah blah @ ProfPotts:

Spoiler:
How does it work game wise when a char turns into an outsider? Outsider traits are pretty massive, but how des it work?
Does it work retroactively? or does one have to take levels as an outsider? or does you his dice, saves and bab change to outsider whatever class you take?

Spoiler:
Made you look!

Yousef olan Ahmad wrote:

hehehe...

of course. I'm curious!

The Exchange

Why are we using spoilers?:
The level 10 transformation thing for the prestige class is basically like all those level 20 transformation things for the various sorcerer bloodlines - just a reason for a bunch of bonuses really. Of course, changing type also helps against certain spells and what-not, but basically it's a good thing... and a lot of levels away, so really, no need to worry about it!

Yousef:
LOL!

The Exchange

Hmmm... seems to have been a bit of a slow-down in posts lately... was it something I said? Also, does anyone know if Saul's abandoned the game, or just not been around the boards at all lately?

I didn't notice a slow down, but yeah, we are missing are smart, wise and friendly barbarian now aren't we.

My guess is he's swamped with work.

Was I really the last person to post on the adventure page? I think we need to continue onto new things and worry about this chest later. At least until we get more skills or find a key.

Heh. That did make me laugh out loud :-)

Does Yousef perchance have Profession(High School Teacher) as a trained skill? ;-)

If so, we could test that theory :-P

I've taught High School: trust me, your characters aren't ready for a CR that high yet... ;)

Of course, for the ol' kidney stones, I prescribe... more beer! ;)

... He takes position in front of the door with his spear readied to accept a charging baboon.

Which is great and all... except that Yousef's the only one who can actually open the door (since it locked behind them when Rashid shut it)... Unless the baboons are that intelligent ('They cut the power, man! How'd they do that, they're animals!').

The Exchange

By the way - loving the door slam attack idea Yousef... even if the dicebot kinda' screwed you there it's a great idea!

Oh, and I've finally got the APG. Most stuff looks fine to use - I'll not be using 'Hero Points' though (too disruptive to the flow of play in a PbP methinks... besides, you're too good to need 'em, right?). Character options which don't require changes to your characters (i.e. stuff that doesn't kick in 'till level 2 or higher) are likely to be fine, as are the new Combat Moves, Feats and Spells and stuff. If you've got specific questions about what you can and can't use, feel free to ask.

Some of the new classes look a bit 'forced' (like how they've worked the Alchemist to fit into the whole 'spells per day' mechanic), and some a little pointless (such as Witch Vs Wizard), and the Inquisitor looks like it needed some more proof-reading (the high-level Judgement powers talk about 'reseting' which doesn't seem to actually be a part of the Judgement mechanic at all), but generally okay if anyone does feel an irresitable urge to multiclass.

You guys will be leveling soon, but try not to get too dazzled by the shiney new flash of the APG if you can help it - there's some interesting stuff to be sure, but a solid base to a well-rounded character is more important than pure niftiness... IMHO, natch... :)

I have had a look over it as well.

There is plenty of interesting stuff, but most of it is not relevant to Rashid.

A couple of things:

Glory(Heroism) subdomain - nothing from it will kick-in until 5th level, so it is a fair way off yet.

Breadth of Experience feat - provides more flavor than anything else - if this had been available earlier, I would certainly have taken it as my 1st level feat :-)

A couple of the minor wondrous items are quite flavorful, and will certainly be considered:

Ring of Arcane Signets
Campfire Bead
Manacles of Cooperation

However, my favourite would have to be the Ioun Torch - I like the idea of a Cleric of Sarenrae with his own personal miniature sun :-)

I will go over the new cleric spells, and post about the ones I find interesting later...

I'm jealous. I want the APG too. *pout*

I saw the Monk of the Empty Hand and thought perfect for Yousef level two, then I realized that monks need a decent Wisdom score. Boo to MAD.

The Exchange

Quote:

Yeah - aspects look like a great way to get that 'shapeshifter' element into the character from level 1, instead of it suddenly just popping up a few levels later.

Quote:

To be honest I'm fine if you want to swap this out - considering your level 1 Feat is 'Heavy Armour Proficiency' and no-one's had a chance to wear armour of any sort yet (not to mention that heavy armour and a desert climate really don't mix). 'Breadth of Experience' is kinda' overpowered with its bonuses (compared with other Feats), but it does match the way you've been playing the character and the backstory you wrote. Rashid will have to be older than 100 and younger than 125 of course (since any older than that would alter his age category and his Ability Scores).

Quote:

You're okay - Sorcerers just got some new bloodlines, and yours fits the campaign the best anyhow. As for new arcane spells... well, I'm kinda' already chucking in spells from all sorts of places (you'll see...) which the characters may eventually pick up, so you may come across a few of the new spells anyhow. ;)

Quote:

Not to mention that pesky Lawful alignment thing. I don't know what alignment Yousef is, but I'm pretty sure Lawful he ain't! :)

Oh yeah, that. Yousef's actions and motivations to me indicate a Chaotic Neutral alignment. He isn't exactly evil, but he has a healthy disregard for life considering his own life circumstances have taught him life is cheap.

Dang Bahram, we get the message :-P

Yeah sorry. The messageboards f-d me over. It apeared as it had eaten all my posts. and *poof* there they ALL are.

That has been happening to me, yet I haven't seen anything pop up yet.

m dwarven page 18 druid 5th

ditto

Xealot's been quiet for some time now. You recon he's alright? He's not exacly in the safest line of work.

I love it when the site eats my posts...

take 2, action.

Level up:
+1 BAB
+4 HP (3 class, 1 con)
+1 will
+1 CL, Flare selected
Skills: 5 points (2 class, 1 human, 1 int, 1 Favored class)
Diplomacy +1, Knowledge Arcana +1, Knowledge Plains +1, Linguistics +1, Spellcraft +1.

Bahram will spend the evening mostly in discussion with Zaina, learning some tact, gaining insight into things magical and the mysteries of the plains as well as learning the basics for Auron.

Cool?

The Exchange

Looks good to me.

We can only hope Xealot's okay. It's the two-edged sword of internet anonymity: you can just drop out of stuff whenever you like with no real fallout, but then people don't know why you're suddenly not around any more.

I've vanished off sites before due to nothing more than increased workload - you know you should log on and mention it, but the last thing you want to do is even look at a computer screen, and eventually you get to that point where it seems too late to have any point doing so anyway.

I'm not about to kill Saul off or anything. For now I'll just have him follow along in zombie mode, and if we get to a point where it's convienient to drop him off I'll do that - but Xealot's gonna' be welcome back at any point if he turns up. After all, it's stupid to be judgemental over a game, and people do have real lives to cope with out there. From a game point of view it's no big deal.

So yeah - I hope the guy's okay (or girl, or swamp monster, or whatever he, she, or it may be in the RL beyond cyberspace), and I think that's all any of us can really do from here.

looking at the varant druid stuff. can see in order cave[dwarf miner], mountains[born in and lots there] and desert[countrty has alot]. very little woodland. dont like the waiting till 6th for wildshape though. like the shamans better, but dont work for this character. what do you think?

The Exchange

I think you're right in your assessment: the mountain and desert variants in particular are fitting, but like you mention - waiting two levels for wildshape is a big, big, disadvantage (especially in a PbP where you tend to wait a long time to level). Having looked them over, for Keldar, I'd recommend sticking with the 'regular' druid. Despite the name, 'Woodland Stride' is still handy in Katapesh for passing through stuff like fields of (non-withered) cacti and that sort of thing, even if actual 'woodlands' are pretty scarce, and the rest of the 'regular' druid class features are equally applicable wherever you may be.

Sorry about my multiple posts, but I thought it would better show off lavender's divide on the issue...and her chaotic nature...

If it is annoying let me know and I will not do it again.

The Exchange

Actually it can make things a bit tricky if you do it too much: I tend to need to scroll back over all the posts since my last one when doing DM posts (to cut-&-paste quotes, check rolls, all that jazz) - since the messageboards only give us so many posts to look at per screen multiple posts like that can eat up 'allocated' numbers of posts fast. To be fair, this site gives us quiet a few per screen / page, so it's unlikely to be a huge issue - but if several people decide to post like that, or there's a big in-character exchange between the PCs between my posts, or anything like that, then yeah, it could cause a problem.

Otherwise - great scitzo-ness! :)

I guess I'll display what changes I made to Yousef as well.

+6.5hp (4.5 class, 1 point con, 1 point Favored Class)
+1 Reflex
+1 Base Attack Bonus
+1 Intimidate
+1 Stealth
+1 (+5) Knowledge (dungeoneering)
+1 Disable Device
+1 Perception
+1 Acrobatics
+1 Use Magic Device
+1 Bluff

Rogue Talent:
Combat Trick - Combat Expertise

I was thinking of taking the Thug archetype, but I imagine it would be less Yousef-full (har har har) then staying a regular Rogue. I would like to ask your opinions.

The Exchange

I'd stick with regular Rogue, besides - Yousef's already used some of the class features he'd need to swap out, so I wouldn't allow a retroactive change now anyway!

I had no idea if I did or not. I guess I did. That makes it easy.
