Raijan, practically hopping from foot to foot squawks impatiently, "Well, now that we've each got a shiny new playing card, and a terrifying fraternal apparition has appeared, let's go track down a fortune teller - To the Traitor's Mews!

"Sure, might as well start there." Rose tucks the card into her belt and looks at the others. "Unless anyone has a different idea?"

"No other ideas here, let's go," Bailey proclaims. "...The Idiot, I ask you..."

"Oh, and if talking doesn't cut it, just make a wish. Maybe people will become our friends, or get weaker, or maybe suffer a wicked headache."

The band of Pathfinders make their way down to the Traitiors Mew. When the group arrives this is the scene come across.
Wedged among the many-tiered tenements that clog Korvosa’s poorest district, this rambling black-brick manor house has been claimed by displaced families. The wary eyes of countless waifs, beggars, and other people in tattered clothes peer through shattered windows, their spirits as weathered as the building itself. From the spot in the road you can see the entry way. It is filled with piles of straw and rags. The rags and straw serve as chairs for the homeless and lost. There is group of people in the entryway.

Dhane gives a nod to Kaminari Raijan and another to Bailey to let them know that he'll back them up, following their lead. "I hope this doesn't turn into trouble," he says to them under his breath. "But if it does, I'm sure the guards would appreciate it if we don't kill anyone..."

Raijan's eyes grow weary as he looks upon the wretched people that surround him, his swagger blunted by their sorrows. He picks out a curious looking child, squats down on his haunches 'til he's eye-level with them, and in a gentle tone asks, "Hey kid, we're big important heroes, but we need a little guidance. Is there a fortune teller around here?"
Raijan subtly palms over a gold coin to the child. No need to make the little one a target...

With his Harrow card in hand, Norvegicus walks into the Mews. "Beer is proof that the gods love us and want us to be happy." he says as he sighs in a relaxed tone.

Though he's laid back, his eyes constantly dart back and forth, always on the look out for danger. Can't be too careful 'round these parts. I smell a rat ... Oh wait!

Dhane puts on a friendly face, "We sure would appreciate the help, kid. She's the older lady who looks a little Elven."

Druaga circles around the Mews, intently watchin the building from a higher vantage point. If she doesn't want to be found, she's going to try to sneak out pretty soon here… Or send some people to discourage questions.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

"Say, Bartender. Do you happen to know of any local mediums? I kind of need one. You know, for personal stuff. She'd be - Yea high? - sleek, older ..."
Norvegicus tosses him an extra gold coin. "Here."

Dhane casts a wary glance at the people hanging around to see if any conspicuously leave as the group starts asking questions about the fortuneteller.

Mixing around with the people, first and foremost you find that there is no bartender.

In fact, according to the bits and pieces of information among these scattered remanants.

However it seems that most of them are unwilling to speak to you further unless you speak to another of their own but seem unforthcoming about whom.
Raijan's efforts earlier seems to have paid off as he notices the child looking pointly towards a sunken-eyed woman before looking down and ducking out of sight.

The Empty? The Empty! This is exactly the sort of callous disregard I'd expect from a damned Oni!

Raijan resettles some of his ruffled feathers, promising himself that no tyrant stands forever, before gently approaching the sunken-eyed woman.

"Excuse me Madam, I swear to you we mean no harm," he softly qworks. "We have been told that there is a fortune teller here who can help us prevent terrible disaster. Can you help us? If so, I swear no harm will come to you by your aid.

Diplomacy since she seems reticent: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

The woman stares at you not speaking a word, as if contemplating to have you strung up, drained dry and what spices/herbs would go well with you.

"Perhaps you don't understand the gravity of this situation. We could really use your help, and we can make it worth your time. Please, name a price."

Unsure of the overall effect of his words, Bailey sends a quiet message to his comrades. "Now would be a good time to make a wish," his voice whispers. "Just say we want her to be our friend, she may not even suspect a casting is taking place."

She finally speaks though her tone isn't friendly but wary.
"Why do you not offer your terms and maybe I'll see if they are worth the effort." she speaks with a varisian twang.

"We are associates of Zeeva Foxglove, I believe you performed a reading for her after her kind gift. The reading troubled her greatly, but she said you seemed even more stricken by it.

If disaster is going to strike, we are here to prevent it. What does your caravan need? We really want your help.

"Thank you, Raijan. If this works, we will have about two hours, we must use them wisely."

"I have seen many fortun-" she cuts off as her eyes glaze over before looking at Bailey smiling.

Her young son Tamas clings to her skirt, his eyes full of worry, and she pulls him close reassuringly. However he's seen what Bailey has done and so has the other people as well.

The atmosphere darkens around now the gazes are filled with hostility and suspicion as they mutter among themselves.

Well, seems as if they saw me, even if they didn't hear. And she might've been about to help, but I've gone and messed it up, Bailey notes, thinking quickly.
"Why the dark faces? No one has done anything wrong. Is that not right, Miss-?" he finishes by gesturing to the woman as if to ask her name.

The ifrit hopes against hope his words have smoothed the situation over, and if not, perhaps the woman can keep the people calm for them by confirming that all is well.

Oh hells. Raijan looks out at the darkening mood of the crowd and spreads his arms in a placating gesture.

Friends, we have made a terrible mistake. In our haste to help you we have overstepped our bounds, and for that you have our sincere apologies. I swear to you we have no purpose here but to save as many as we can, but we think you have information that will help us save many lives, perhaps even your own!

[b]"Tsura" the woman answers in a dull voice. The crowd though not out to break into a riot still views you with great suspicion.

I understand you don't want us here, please, we just need to know about this harrow reading and we will be on our way. My companion will of course dismiss the spell. Is that acceptable?
Raijan is looking out across the crowd of unfriendly faces as he speaks, but finishes while looking at the charmed woman, hoping she'll weigh in , and that none of them can pass a DC 20 Sense Motive to see she's still charmed if Bailey hasn't dismissed it...

"Yes, I'm very sorry, but we needed a simple service you may not have been willing to provide. It is of great importance for all of us, and we would have asked nothing more. I dismiss the spell as a token of good faith, so that we may part ways with the aforementioned Harrow reading."

"There's a woman named Goldtooth, a Sczarni criminal who sometimes impersonates a harrower. This Goldtooth fled Korvosa after trying to cheat “some fancy lady from overseas” but recently returned with some mercenaries and took over a room upstairs. Now leave me and my child be. Ones such as you should leave us common folk alone." She takes up her child and attempts to move away from all of you.

Thank the gods and little spirits we didn't have to hurt these poor people. I truly feared they would attack, and leave us little choice.

Raijan bows to the woman. "Again, you have my apologies. I may not be in this city for long, but before I depart, you have my word that I will make life better for you and yours."

Ugh, you always promise too much!

With that he strides towards the stairs, beckoning to Dhane and loosening his sword in its gaudy scabbard. "Hey big guy, you should probably take the lead!"

"Yeah, Raijan, I think yer right," says Dhane, putting a hand on the large sword strapped to his back. "We probably will make life better fer them and theirs by doin' this."

Dhane makes his way to the stairs and casts a glance over his shoulder at the rest of the group before starting his way up. Maybe Galt's endless war has made me paranoid, but I seen too many folks fall to insurgents to trust that these mercs haven't made a contingency plan. He proceeds up the stairs slowly, inspecting the stairwell for malicious meddling.

Checking the stairs for traps as I move up them, as this would be a good place for traps to be

With Raijan on teh steps and Dhane finding no traps on the way, the party heads up the stairs!

I did dismiss the spell, it might have been a little lost at the end of my speech.

"Once again, my deepest apologies."

Bailey trails Raijan up the stairs, ready to cast.

Dhane reaches the top if the stairs and casts a weary smile back at his companions. He puts his hand on the large sword strapped to his back and flexes his body, ready for action. After a brief moment, he allows his hand fall without drawing the sword as his bidy relaxes.

Everyone deserves a chance, he decides. This is almost certain to devolve into violence, but these people don't need us to make that decision for them..

Dhane calmly raises a mailed fist to the door and politely raps, then concentrates on hearing any commotion from inside.

Going to knock on the door then listen

Bailey steps to the side of Dhane. He then speaks to the whole group with several messages. "We should start by talking. Despite how well it worked last time, it would help if someone wished we could settle this without killing, should mundane words fail us. I could try to charm one, or knock them out. Raijan, I have taken a small part of your soul, you cannot be the one to make the wish. Fear not, it is harmless and will be returned when I next refresh my magic."

Dhane hears nothing beyond the door. In fact he can detect no movement behind said door. Something the others easily pick up as well.

Raijan tries the handle, padding quietly into the room.

The handle opens. The door creaks unusally loud to all your ears..........

The room is empty.
Very Empty.
Like deserted empty.

Suspiciously so.

"Hmm..... I would wish we could tell if there was magic in there IF IT WOULDN'T TAKE A PIECE OF MY SOUL!!

"Worry not, worry not, it'll come back," Bailey mutters, clearly not paying much attention. "If you want to register a complaint, find the maliks who created this form of magic. That'd merit a medal as well as a response. Besides, no one's soul need be held hostage for such a simple task..."

The two of you finds no traces of magic.

This ramshackle attic is filled with knickknacks of all sorts. Most of it has been thoroughly scavenged for anything of value, leaving rat-chewed paintings, shards of porcelain, and cobwebs. On the far end of the attic, a crate serves as a makeshift desk, holding a stack of papers and an inkwell. A flyer is nailed to the wall above the desk. The window beside the crate is shattered, letting in the cold air from outside.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Raijan looks around before walking across the room towards the flyer.

Hopefully it has some sort of clue to follow.

Dhane hesitates briefly, then sees the Tengu walk across the room. His face adjusts to the situation and he moves forward to back him up in case foul play materializes.

He's spotted a trap!

There's loose bricks near the ceiling and a tripwire runes through it with the design being to dislodge part of the roof on the unsuspecting.

Can any of you cut that tripwire safely?

In lieu of that. Any body has any creative ideas to try altenative skill checks? Or One of you can just trigger it lol
