Normal light to 20’, dim light to 40’; both distances double for characters with low-light vision (which are Lalandar and Bose in this group). Normal light means no penalties for the light-sensitive. Dim light means that there is a 20% miss chance in combat due to the reduced light level. As an addendum, Ferrum with his darkvision also benefits from light because his vision is black-and-white only in the absence of light. This means he can see textures, but nothing requiring differentiation of color. At my table, that means he cannot read the written text on a typical scroll or book because there’s little to no texture difference between the letters and the whitespace between them.
You can certainly drop the torch on the floor as a free action. You can also designate one of the humans as a torchbearer.
If you choose to try to force open the door and want Ferrum to participate, his Strength bonus is a +5. You fellows may decide who rolls for him.

Lalandar |

well you said specific so I was aiming on the outside. I was thinking same as Bose, might be non goblins. Thought maybe there'd be hand prints, foot prints, something indicating if it wasnt goblin.

Lalandar |

try the door again, maybe they moved something out of the way? then switching to elvish Please stand back. We will be trying again.
would I know the language most used in the area after hanging around town?

Pixie Rogue |

well you said specific so I was aiming on the outside. I was thinking same as Bose, might be non goblins. Thought maybe there'd be hand prints, foot prints, something indicating if it wasnt goblin.
I see. I would have told you such information the first time, especially with a 27 on the check. The Common tongue is most common for humans; elves are the most common non-humans. You should have it covered with those two languages.
The response to Bose’ assurances is a murmur, but it’s too quiet to make out. More furniture seems to be shuffled.

Pixie Rogue |

Ferrum nods at Lalandar’s remark, then listens to Bose and agrees with him, too.
Setting his feet, he positions himself to give the door a steady push. Looking to confirm that the elves are ready and the humans are still covering everyone’s backs, he turns and gives the door a slow, steady push.
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
The door gives way much more easily than the half-orc expected, however, and with a grinding sound the bench set behind the door moves with it. Ferrum is left catching his balance in the doorway, arms extended against the door, when everyone clearly hears the ‘twang’ of a bow.
Arrow from the darkness!: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Ferrum is hit!: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Map update will come later. In the meantime, if you wish to participate in the coming scrum, I suggest that you make an initiative roll. Feel free to roll for any of the NPC’s - I will add their bonuses after I know your rolls, just let me know which roll is for who. I will let you guys decide who’s playing what NPC and I’ll play the ones you don’t want. Fair?

Pixie Rogue |

The map has been updated. Bose is up. He can see that Ferrum was struck by a Small arrow. Lalandar's torch illuminates part of the room, so he is able to peer past his partner and see two large beds against the far wall. A table and benches can be seen in the middle area of the room, but of more pressing concern, he can also see a goblin scrambling to draw another arrow for his shortbow on the other side of the table. He can hear, but not see, someone or something else in the room, as well.

Pixie Rogue |

Ah, error on my part. The goblin acted in the surprise round, shooting Ferrum, and also had the highest initiative, so he gets a second shot at the flat-footed half-orc.
Goblins Attack!: 1d20 ⇒ 5
The little fellow's second shot flies over Ferrum's shoulder just as Bose' reply shot hits him square in the shoulder and he squeals. The composite shortbow threatens a critical on a natural 20 unless a feat or special ability grants a larger range. The accuracy of that shot made the cover granted by the table irrelevant, however. Good shot!
From behind the door, a much larger goblinoid steps into view. He grabs the bench on his side of the table (the one that wasn't used as a weak barricade for the door) and charges at Ferrum with it!
Modified Bull Rush: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Flat-footed and completely taken by surprise by the maneuver - and the size of the opponent, Ferrum is shoved back into the wall of the hallway, knocking him prone. The creature steps into the hallway opposite Bose, snarling as it readies a morningstar.
A second creature steps into view, javelin in hand, and flings it at Bose, but the missile doesn't even make it out of the room.
Javelin: 1d20 ⇒ 6
The "big goblins" (Knowledge (Local) check to identify) are wearing leather armor and carrying heavy wooden shields in addition to the morningstars and javelins mentioned.
Ferrum is up next, but he is prone adjacent to an armed opponent, so I'm going to think about his action before posting. You are welcome to make suggestions (or take the action, if you are so inclined).

Pixie Rogue |

The choices aren't great, but staying prone is worse than taking a hit for standing up, so...
Ferrum scowls at the creature that knocked him down and stands, anticipating an attack. He's not disappointed. The creature sends the morningstar whistling at the bloodrager's head, connecting solidly.
Attack of Opportunity!: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Oh, no, he hit him!: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Once he's on his feet, Ferrum rages, increasing in size until he fills this section of the hall, and he takes a swipe at the creature with a massive clawed right hand.
You will fear the Claw!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Maybe you will fear the claw later...
Note: Ferrum is looking pretty rough from a health standpoint.
Lalander is up!

Pixie Rogue |

Lalander is up!

Lalandar |

Lalandar will rush in, side stepping Bose to get in that square below him and drop the torch. Then will attempt to cast magic missile, aiming at.. Just realized I'm not sure what level I am knowing at least level one, I'll target the big guy that aimed at Ferrum first then if I can, shoot another at the archer.
Force Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
damage of 2nd: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Let me know if I get a third, it would be targeted at the big guy again.

Pixie Rogue |

Lalander is fourth level and has two missiles from a casting of magic missile.
Bose has a wall directly below him. Passing through Bose’ square to get through the doorway would provoke AoO from both of the ‘big goblins’, which I assume was not your plan. The dotted red lines indicate the positions of the door when closed (obvious) and where it is currently.

Pixie Rogue |

"I hear you, my friend!"
Jaonos, knowing that healing one's enemies is hardly the path to success, keep his distance as he calls out for a boon of healing from his god.
Channel positive energy: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
"Frenhir, attack!"
The wolf leaps into the fray, teeth snapping. Unable to get past the creature in the hallway, Frenhir dashes into the room and attacks the small goblin, as any good pack animal would do - go for the prey that looks weakest. The manuever exposes him to a possible attack from the big goblin in the room, who has no melee weapon, but does have a readied shield.
Shield Bash AoO: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
The shield connects solidly. Frenhir pushes past, but his teeth fail to pierce the little archer's armor.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Will: 1d20 ⇒ 1
With the wolf in his face, the goblin shrieks and backs away, swinging ineffectively at the canine with his bow.
Bose is up!

Pixie Rogue |

Struck three times by missiles, even if no solidly, the big goblin facing Ferrum is looking rough already. Scowling, he backs away from Ferrum, who lashes out with his claws in an effort to stop him.
Ferrum's Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
FEAR THE CLAW!!!: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Crit confirmation: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Crit damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
The big creature glances over a shoulder as he carefully backs away, but doesn't count on the reach of the far larger Ferrum and the oversized half-orc slashes his claw across the goblinoid's throat, silencing him forever.
The second larger goblinoid doesn't see what happened to his ally, but he saw Ferrum's claw lash out and the sound of an unhealthy gurgle. Stepping away from the half-orc, he draws another javelin and lets fly, this time at Ferrum.
Javelin: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The missile flies true and hits the enlarged bloodrager solidly.
With his increased size, Ferrum is unable to move nimbly into the room. As he steps ponderously in to get right in the big goblin's face. He snarls and pulls the javelin out of his chest and drops it on the ground as if it meant nothing before trying to rip the goblin's face off. Literally.
Claw attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Intimidate check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
The blow nearly stuns the goblinoid, but he knows he's dead and refuses to go down without taking someone with him!
Two natural 20's but no confirmed crits. Big Goblin #1 is bleeding out, Big Goblin #2 looks like a stiff breeze might do him in, and the little goblin is looking terrified and might need a change of clothes.
Lalandar is up!

Lalandar |

I'm going to get hit with an AoO aren't I?
Lalandar will step into the room and try to be the breeze that blows that huge guy down
Rapier: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
damage on hit: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Pixie Rogue |

Frenhir is unable to reach the little goblin that he tried to attack earlier, so he bits at the big goblin instead, but misses.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Jaonos quietly tells the two humans, who both look very nervous, but have readied shots if anything comes up behind the party, "We have two halls to watch, gentlemen. I suggest one of you move over to where the dead one was fleeing."
The two men look at each other wordlessly. Conn nods, "All right. I'm the one for it, then." And he moves past Bose and the combat room to watch the far corridor. He keeps his crossbow trained on the fallen goblin in case it's faking, though.
Jaonos glides down the hall and into the room by his animal companion. As he moves, he draws his dagger. As he comes to a stop, he holds up the dagger and it flies from his hand at the larger foe.
Hand of the Acolyte: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
The dagger misses, but rather than clattering against the far wall, it returns to Jaonos' open hand to be thrown again.

Pixie Rogue |

New round
The little goblin, stuck where he is by the press of larger bodies in the room and knowing firing a bow with Ferrum so close would be suicide, draws a handaxe and lunges in, trying to hamstring the half-orc.
Handaxe attack: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
The damage is minimal, but damage is done.
Bose is up!

Bose Aufero |

Bose will set his bow aside as he moves to the space above the goblin formerly known as archer, drawing one of his rapier. He wil move around Ferrum, to stay out of the reach of the larger beasty till he is ready to engage.
Arriving, he will try to return the favor done unto his friend.
rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Pixie Rogue |

Bose's attack strikes true and the little archer appears to be on his last legs.
The big goblin draws his morningstar and attacks Bose.
He hits AC 22 for 10 points of damage. If my notes are correct, that's a hit, yes?
Ferrum's large size prevents him from effectively attacking with everyone else packed in around him, believing the others have things well in hand, he returns to the hallway and allows his rage to end, causing him to become fatigued.
Lalandar is up!

Lalandar |

Woth everyone stumbling, lalandar will continue trying to chop the goblin down.
Rapier: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Lalandar takes that chop but the goblin saw it easily and turns enough to allow the sword to pass by without even scraping his hide.

Pixie Rogue |

Frenhir would really rather attack the little goblin cowering in the corner, but his hackles are up and Bose has been hurt, so he will take a shot at the larger foe right in front of him.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Trip attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
As Lalandar's lunge causes the creature to dodge his blade, the wolf times his jump perfectly and catches the big goblin right in the throat, driving the creature to the ground. His eyes are open and he still breathes, but he's dead and just doesn't know it yet.
He's conscious, but just barely.
Jaonos, seeing Ferrum's many wounds, moves to heal him before more enemies make themselves known.
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 5) + 4 = 11
New round!
The little goblin takes a half-hearted swing at Bose and misses badly.
Bose is up!

Bose Aufero |

Bose feints away from the goblin's clumsy swing and slices down with his rapier as his prior target falls.
rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
rapier crit confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Ferrum perception: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Pixie Rogue |

The rapier catches the little goblin under the chin. In reaction, he jerks his head back, but the rogue's killer instincts are finely honed and he drives the thin blade forward through the exposed softness under the jaw. The goblin involuntarily jumps backward at the pain, but falls to the ground, bleeding heavily and his breathing is labored.
Down the hall, Bose hears a crash - something heavy being thrown over or down, perhaps - that doesn't match the steady din of goblin chaos that he's some to expect from their current environment. Conn appears in the doorway, still watching to the right, to ask if anyone else heard that...?
The fallen big goblin stands back up, looking like a hard breeze would knock him right back down, but his morningstar remains on the floor. All he can do is stand and glare.
Standing provokes attacks of opportunity from both Bose and Lalandar. Get him, boys!
Ferrum moves to the hall where Conn (and Bose) heard something.
