Dotted in! My computer (with hero lab) crashed last week. I have a replacement, but still have to take the time to get hero lab installed on the new one and go about getting the company to let me switch licenses to the new one also. I will hopefully have Cyrus' purchases and profile updated this weekend. I have a long list of things I am going to buy...
I am also kind of excited to make a slight change in his gear... I have been using a Sickle since the beginning, but have decided that I am drawn to the rapier... the extra critical chance is more appealing than the trip ability of the sickle. The reason I am kind of excited about it is I am going to use Gunari as my inspiration for making the change... I love being able to work actual game play stuff into legitimate reasons for altering my character.
Also... Cold Iron... I need cold iron. :)
Finarin Moonstep |
Thanks Karma so much for this. My daughter may have an affinity for 2 Nordic princesses, but you are my favorite Fin, well after Teemu Selänne.
Gunari Maximoff |
So, guys, what do you think. Should Gunari save up for a +1 weapon (he cannot afford it quite yet), or get his armor enchanted to +1? His AC is usually pretty good, but there is always room for improvement (I like to be at level +20 for AC guys, which he can get with a single spell).
I don't think we'll get quite enough for him to be able afford both after this chronicle (guessing he'll be short by about 100gp). This is possibly because playing out of tier gives him a a little less gold than he would normally have, but I am not 100% sure of that. No big deal, though.
Just looking for opinions!
Cyrus the Flea |
I typically try to focus on being really good at one thing, knowing there are others in the group who can "pick up the slack" so to speak. Plus, for 2000 gold you can get a +1 shield and +1 armor... (actually can't remember if you use a shield...) Pretty sure shield of faith stacks with a regular shield bonus, unless I am remembering it wrong

Gunari Maximoff |
For sure I know the costs. Part of the goal is to be able to use my sacred weapon ability to make my rapier keen, but it needs to be +1 first.
Gunari does use full plate and shield (part of the reason he rarely casts in combat other than with Fervor). His role has definitely been to take hits, so I will probably increase his AC first. And Shield of Faith is a deflection bonus, so certainly stacks!
GM Karma |
I agree the shield + armor will get you the best immediate benefits. I think you can make your sword count as magical pretty easily anyway. The keen ability is nice, but I think it can wait until you get a bit higher base damage.
GM Karma |
OK, the scenario started. You'll be in Absalom (no boat trips!), so you can quite easily make purchases.
Finarin Moonstep |
Bought scroll of cat's grace x5 with 2 pp. I have 2 spring loaded wrist sheathes, one with the scrolls, on with my wand CLW.
Cyrus the Flea |
Woohoo! I'll be home tonight to finish updating my character sheet and get a post in. For now I will botch this appraise folk, and hope ibid can pick up the slack for me...

Getting ready to hit the road soon... Probably the last post I will be able to sneak. This and one Jaender post...

Alas... Cyrus is saddened. I mistakenly thought that the Rapier was on the Ninja's weapon list, but it is not. However, a nearly identical weapon, the Wakizashi, is. For role playing purposes, I can easily say I have an 'odd' version of a rapier, and just use the Wakisashi's stats. If it gets too confusing for PFS since the rules need to be adhered to closely, then its a good thing I didn't make a big deal of it in gameplay yet... :)
Also... for bookkeeping sake, do I need to sell my masterwork sickle in order to buy a masterwork cold iron sickle? Hoping I can just pony up the extra 6gp (only difference in cost) rather than eating the 150gp for selling/rebuying... I will post my extensive shopping list momentarily... (and assume the above is ok. If it is not, I will just have to alter my current gold total...)
Edit: @Lort - Based on two sessions now where characters have had their strength sapped, and with us playing up, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea... those are level 2 spells right? Might be a pricey way to do it though...
Cyrus the Flea |
Sorry for the post blast...
My shopping list before this scenario:
Purchased: masterwork alchemically silvered light mace (325gp), masterwork wakizashi (335gp), replaced masterwork sickle for masterwork cold iron sickle (6gp difference), Oil of align weapon (300gp), oil of magic weapon x2 (100gp), bandolier x2 (1gp), wrist sheath x2 (2gp), smoked goggles (10gp), tanglefoot bag (50gp), thunderstone (30gp), antitoxin (50gp), antiplague (50gp), bladeguard (40gp), potion of touch of the sea (50gp), air crystals (50gp)
hunting cat Jaguar, purchased with 1PP (150gp or less purchase)
Sold: light mace
If replacing the sickle for cold iron isn't kosher, I just need to dock the 150gp from my current gold total.
GM Karma |
AFAIK you cannot upgrade a weapon into different base material.. If it's just a backup weapon, then masterworking it might not be that crucial (since enchanting it will be horribly expensive)
Lort |
GM Karma is right, it's only enchantments you can add, not materials. I agree also about keeping it as a backup weapon. You are far better off enchanting your existing one. Aside from the one off 150gp sacrifice you'd have to make now, enchantments cost double on cold iron blades! Not exactly the kind of weapon you want as your PFS base weapon.
Miro Ammars |
Dotting before I get 100 posts in again and have to be reminded! :)
GM Karma |
I actually find Amenopheus outburst quite funny. "Look who's talking..."
To his defense, the Sapphire Sage is not officially a member of Pathfinder Society, but I do think he might have sent pathfinder tombrobb... eh.. relic-gathering missions.
Gunari Maximoff |
FYI - just so you all know, because I am replaying this, I will not be leading any of the decision making. I'll make suggestions at times, and play in character, but I'll be riding the fine line between player and character knowledge. The good thing is that I haven't really read the S.S. mission, so don't really know what is going on for that one.
I'll stay in character, and have the excuse that Gunari's "little buddy" is distracting him!
GM Karma |
The Perception DC to spot the trap was 29! Slightly impossible to lvl 3-4 characters. Luckily the effect wasn't that bad, just ... interesting.
How's the pace so far? Looks like it's roughly week per mission with this pace.

Awesome, considering Christmas, New Year's, and you are what US CST +8? I believe Lort, Gunari, and I are all CST (if he is back from Oz), and Cyrus and Ibid are EST so that'd be +7. Miro is mysteriously anonymous.
Combat might go slower because of the time difference, so we might have to spam combat ideas. Guess we'll find out soon.
Cyrus the Flea |
Catching back up on the gear discussion I left up above - I sold my masterwork sickle, and purchased a cold iron sickle. (gained about 140ish gold overall) I will add that to my profile so it is updated properly. After this scenario, that +1 weapon will be mine! Muwaaahahahahah
Also, pace is good with me, I agree with Finarin, considering all of the distractions and the time change, we are doing quite well :) I have been trying very hard to make sure I post in the day when I know our GM is awake, to give him more of an opportunity to respond.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
The pace is awesome so far, much faster than I expected! After the holidays I should be able to do a much better job keeping up than I was previously. So... sorry if I was the group's anchor there for a while :)
Lort |
As per my discussion post on Accursed Halls, I'll be flying home tomorrow and posting very erratically.
When you need to bot Lort, his standard is to hit whatever needs hitting. He's not afraid to charge the biggest thing in the room. He will always power attack unless it becomes obvious the thing's AC is definitely over 20.
Finarin Moonstep |
Um - why are we trying to diplomitize when he just shouted to kill us all? Not really how to proceed here: should I wade into combat or wait until Miro's smooth taking goes off?
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
I'm cool with fighting the enemies. I figured I wasn't out anything since I'm firing from range, rolling my attack and having it held until Miro can post (or someone attacks), since I don't need to stand next to the enemy, in harms way, with my action held. I just didn't want to fire off a shot if you guys wanted to talk them down.
Feel free to attack, just have your toon voice that he will attack, and Ibid will fire.
Cyrus the Flea |
I don't think they want to parley... Might as well jump into the fray... They can beg for mercy once we cut down a few of them... Maybe her shouldn't have yelled "leave none alive!" :)

Hahaha, well played, Sir!
Gunari Maximoff |
works for me. Gunari is still giddy with the idea that we'd actually be "unrobbing" a tomb. Plus, he isn't known for completely rational thought ;)
GM Karma |
Had some server issues as well, but at least it didn't eat my posts...
First mission almost complete...
The scenario gives a lot of opportunity to roleplay and discuss a salon and society politics with a number of "VIP"s, which actually doesn't have anything to do with the scenario/missions. More of a backdrop. Are you interested in this? Or would you rather move quicker to the missions?
GM Karma |
Having an unavoidable, almost undetectable curse trap kind of sucks... Although it's pretty much in the theme of Osirion tomb. At least the effect is mostly nuisance, on 6-7 it would have been a save-or-die.
Finarin Moonstep |
Not sure how this scenario is laid out, but before we get our next assignment I was wondering if there was time for additional purchases? I am caught between something immediately useful: Pearl of Power for 1000gp and something I have to save for: Belt of Incredible Dexterity +2 (need 3000 more gp and 6 more Fame Points)
Weird how specific the module requirements are to seal the tomb up. I would have thought we could have 'done' something other than having a specific spell memorized or just paying 6 gp.
GM Karma |
Actually the scenario does allow creative solutions, so I would have ruled the cave-in as a workable solution. Just gave you the "official" solutions due to Gunari's knowledge roll.
In earlier times, I believe the faction missions often required an obscure profession check to get the another PP.
Gunari Maximoff |
Karma, you could have always allowed the Kn: Engineering to work (at a penalty), or perhaps other things... craft stonecraft, architect, etc. Hiring a stonemason is cool as well. Worked for me!
I could also see summoning an earth elemental, or something like that.
GM Karma |
Ugh, work laptop broke down... Might have problems posting, but on the other hands that's least of my worries... :P
I try to push the game forwards this evening
GM Karma |
I'm slightly worried about this fight... On the other hand, this party is quite resourceful...
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
I we should have this.... (Says the guy not on the front line)
So, I guess we need to make sure we deal acid or fire damage each round to whichever ooze we attack. I'm all for focusing fire, and trying to burn one down as quick as possible. I do have alchemists fire as well, if the group would like me to be the one to hamper their regeneration for a few rounds.
Cyrus the Flea |
You can probably do more damage than me with your bow (blunted arrows obvs), I can throw the flasks if necessary, and I have a few. I'm not going to be able to get up there anytime soon anyways, so I can start with that at least, then we can go from there.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Thank you for helping an old man feel useful to the group :)
How about our position as a group in this combat? If we can remain where we are, Lort could completely block their approach to us and then he'd be only only one risking their gross disease :) . But seriously, in order to attack Lort I assume they'd have to bunch up beside one another, in which case an alchemists fire would hit both simultaneously. The big problem being, in that case, Lort would be the only one in melee range with those creepy looking things.
Let me know if this is too much metagaming of this encounter.
GM Karma |
Feel free and metagame, this is an encounter where you need it...
And it's good to have a walking encyclopedia such as Ibid :) This encounter would be much harder if you had to find out opponent's abilities by trial and error...
