A cold fury takes hold of Sinset, who conjures a snowball to cast as his foes.

Juno shuffles impatiently, waiting to see if she has killed the foolish Roidiran in front of her...

Hayato Ken |

Glad this week is over. Caught a cold though. Unfortunately all of your enemies still stand, so i'll direct Sinsets attack vs the one Cole attacked, what takes that one out.
Round 2:
Initiative Order: Felix, Cole, Moria, Dusk, R1, Juno, R3, Sinset, R4, R2.
The one in front of Juno and the one in the back are injured. All of you hit. If not stopped, they continue to attack. The one from the front moving up to attack Cole, the other 2 attacking Juno. You go first though.
Attack on Cole:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack on Juno 1:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack on Juno 2:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Sinset attempts to daze Will save DC 14an attacker still standing when it's his turn to attack. The one going after Cole if he's still alive.

![]() |

Juno takes another big swing at the Roidiran in front of her with her axe.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

![]() |

cole gets hit hard and stumbles, blood dripping down his chin, but he tries to bring his opponent down with him.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Hayato Ken |

Only one of your attackers remains standing after that, begging for her life.
Please, spare me! Nothing makes sense anymore! It's horrible.
Combat over.
The chapel room contains some benches and an altar with a red linnen draped over it, accompanied by two small and lit braziers.
Besides the Roidirians gear there is nothing worth it's while in this room.

![]() |

"Bah! Get out of here you fool!" Juno tells the Roidiran who surrenders. Then she stalks around the chapel, looking around for valuables....
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
"Nothing of use," she grumbles. "Come on."
She drinks one of her potions, then leads the way down the hall we haven't gone down yet....
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Fully healed.

![]() |

Moria gives the room a quick glance over after Juno... and then quickly follows. Nice work everyone, that seemed like it could have been a lot worse!"

![]() |

Cole leans against the wall while the others check the room over.
"I'll just...ugh wait right here you guys." he says slumping against the wall then sliding down to floor with a groan.

![]() |

Juno looks back at the wounded Cole, then growls and stomps over to him. She hands him her last potion. "Drink."
If Felix can't heal you Cole, Juno owns one last potion she can give you. I'll roll the healing for it now, but hopefully Felix offers to heal you and it can come from his spells instead of my potion. Haha.
Healing Cole: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Then she stomps back to the room entrance.

Hayato Ken |

You move on into the last remaining room.
This area seems to be the heart of the shrine. You find a circular, shallow pool that glows with otherworldly power at the center of a smaller crater also overgrown with trees and open to the sky. A sharp odor emanates from the water, at once smoky, earthy, and sweet. At each of the cardinal directions is a Roidiran supplicant, knelt in mute prayer.
The words “All discoveries reflect the beholder” are inscribed in glowing
letters along the pool’s side. Everyone perceives these words in her native language.
Unsure what to do, you approach the pool, what appears before you — first in place of your reflections, then as an entity in three dimensions rising from the water — is as stunning as it is unmistakable.
With eyes like starlight and voluminous hair full of secrets, the dark
and striking woman who seems to bend all attention and space in genuflection to her is none other than Roidira herself.
As she materializes, she looks at each of you in turn, her solar eyes almost painful to meet; then, she speaks.
Welcome, supplicants. I am Roidira. You have walked my Road and now, at last, you are ready to drink from this most perilous of cups. Answer my questions truthfully, with an open mind, and you shall be rewarded with the greatest gift in the planes: my Enlightenment.
Fail, and wander forever in the darkness of the ignorance you laughably call ‘wisdom.’

![]() |

Sinset looks to the others, wondering if his charm will work on a minor goddess...
"Other Roidirans say, 'Where does the brotherhood lie? And then respond, at peace beneath her black wings.'"
Sinset hesitates, hoping one of the others can respond better to the other half of the question.
I honestly can't remember if we've seen anything with black wings...does Roidira have wings? This campaign has taken so long I've forgotten all the back story, LOL.

![]() |

Juno scoffs. "Only fools call upon you, blasted witch!"
She swings her axe through the image before her, hoping it might do some damage.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

![]() |

Cole thanks Juno and Felix for the assist then follows the group down to the water where Roidira emerges.
Cole looks on in wonder as she speaks, completely forgetting what the question was, but before he can answer Juno attacks.
He shrugs and draws his cold Iron Rapier. "Guess it's the hard way then ey."

Hayato Ken |

Roidira waves her hand at Juno, enveloping her in a perfect darkness that deadens her to the world. It is not blindness — when Juno holds her hand in front of her face she sees it — but a total absence of all other sensory stimulation. It's not visible to others.
Roidira doesn't seem to take any damage, nor does she give the impression as if she would attack you.
Feel free to browse the campaign so far for answers!
You heard this phrase several times: “There is no presence; there is absence. There is no meaning; there is only knowledge.”
Once you remember it, please make a Diplomacy or Knowledge (religion) check to provide a weighty reply, mentioning some of the things you learned and elaborating them. Good answers might give a bonus.

Intelligence Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
"My dearest Roidira"starts Sinset, recalling the phrase used by her supplicants, Those of us who take the path to enlightment say that there is no presence; there is absence. There is no meaning; there is only knowledge."
"Certainly, this is because your presence is truly that, an absence--your black wings, a vast expanse of emptiness, as large as the space between stars. And because while learning leads to knowledge, that knowledge is the end itself, because knowledge leads to more knowledge, not a single answer, but only a vastness of questions, an ever-growing expanse of beautiful nothingness."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Sinset's tongue grows more and more silver as he speaks. Feel free to add more and aid me on that roll, friends.

![]() |

Juno growls angrily and flails around, swinging her axe at the darkness!

Int Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Moria thinks frantically, unable to come up with an answer
Diplomacy, Aid Another: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
"Uh... yea, what he said!"

![]() |

I can try aid another.
"We... er seek the knowledge that only the nothingness can bring... or something?" Cole says with a shrug and a look to Sinset that says I have no idea what I'm doing.
Aid another Diplo: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Hayato Ken |

Roidira smiles and claps quietly as she lowers her gaze upon you.
Thus you have learned the true significance of emptiness. Tell me, as a good Roidiran, then, do you believe in nothing?
Knowlege Religion check for help. Once again, feel free to browse the campaign so far to remember the knowledge you gathered.

![]() |

Juno continues to swing at the darkness.
"Damned fool Roidirans!"

![]() |

Felix thinks long and very hard to find something useful to add.
KnowRel: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 But he was never really into it.
He then remembers something from his briefing.
"Well, the good Roidiran beliefs in finding the universal truth, by rejecting established wisdom!"

![]() |

Having no knowledge of religion, except what he's heard in the court parlors, in his travels, and on this adventure, Sinset continues to take a wild gander at what the goddess is getting at, bowing as he says,
"Of course we don't believe in nothing, we believe in the perfect void of emptiness that comes from the knowledge of the goddess herself."

![]() |

Sinset smiles back.
"We are not enlightened," says Sinset. "Certainly, your greatness would know the answer to this better than us."

![]() |

Unable to hear the posed questions, Juno continues to swing her axe uselessly at the darkness.
Looked through the thread and found a few quotes that might apply here to help things get moving. Anyone care to help Sinset by saying one?
- ‘Death is knowledge.'
- ‘There is no meaning; there is the goddess,’
- ‘There is no presence; there is absence. There is no meaning; only knowledge.’

![]() |

Moria begins speaking, really have no idea what she is going to say. "I think true knowledge is possible, but only in the absence of meaning can we hope to arrive at such a state. Like you can't really truly know what it is to breathe in the air until you've lived life without air. You can't appreciate the wind in your hair without having felt without.
Err... Yeah?"
Moria nervously bounds on her heels, not really understanding any of this whatsoever.

![]() |

Having been raised among the courtesans in Oppara, Sinset is more comfortable with platitudes and flattery than religion.
Nevertheless, Sinset obeys the goddess, stands up straight, and says something honest for once. "The truth," says Sinset, is that we'd really like to know why so many of your former worshippers are now phantoms.

Hayato Ken |

Roidira smiles and exhales, as if a burden has been lifted. So, you claim understanding. You have mastered the ways of the tongue, now let us test the deepest rafters of your mind.
Now you may drink from this fountain of enlightenment, she says, as she gestures to the pool beneath her feet. Sup on the knowledge that shall shatter all you hold dear, she says, with a strange edge of intensity. All of you, step forth. Don't be afraid, this will not turn you into a phantom.
She doesn't give a further answer to Sinset, but seems to wait for you to claim your price, to drink from the fountain of enlightenment.

![]() |

Juno gasps and looks around. She does not drink from the fountain, instead looking around warily with her axe in hand.

![]() |

Having witnessed poisonings in the capital, Sinset leans close to the water and pauses, sniffing it, and waiting to see what happens to Felix.
Perception, Sense Poison: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

![]() |

Cole unhooks his lucky mug from his belt and fills it halfway with the water. And with a quick prayer to Cayden cailean he drinks from it.
"Oh boy I hope this is the right thing to be doing right now."

Hayato Ken |

The water is redolent of mulled wine and the sting of narcotics. What follows can best be described as a vision.
You must now wrestle with the effects of the bracing waters of enlightenment. DC 12 Fortitude save takes 2d6 points of damage.
All of your senses fade, leaving you floating in a dark and silent void. In this silence, a telepathic presence presses itself upon your mind, I am not, and I have never been. Lesser minds construct reality from ephemeral illusion, forcing the trappings of existence upon that which has never worn them. All the void can grant are echoes.
The water is redolent of mulled wine and the sting of narcotics. What follows can best be described as a vision.
You must now wrestle with the effects of the bracing waters of enlightenment. DC 12 Fortitude save takes 2d6 points of damage.
Roidira, fully corporeal, stands before this very pool in some age when the shrine was better maintained, polished and swept with reverence. Standing in the pool, she produces a long, curved sword. Leaning her head back, strong arms skillfully maneuver the sword until its point presses into her starry robes. With a single breath and thrust, she runs
herself through and dissolves into the pool, a shower of white feathers fluttering down before all fades to black.
The water is redolent of mulled wine and the sting of narcotics. What follows can best be described as a vision.
You must now wrestle with the effects of the bracing waters of enlightenment. DC 12 Fortitude save takes 2d6 points of damage.
Roidira speaks, You are not Roidirans. Did you all really think to take me for a fool? No matter. Hear me now, for no one, least of all my wretched faithful, shall ever believe you: I have no use for followers. Where I now walk is beyond your imagining, beyond the realm of your comprehension.
It seems the water contains wine and stimulants.

The others having already drunk from the fountain, Sinset looks to Juno, and shakes his head to indicate that she shouldn't drink.
