Gameplay Thread.

Game will start soon.

You arrive in Qaharid by boat without incident, two letters from Venture-Captain ibn Qaradi in hand: one detailing your quest, the other a letter of recommendation that will hopefully impress a local patron.

Venture-Captain’s Letter to you:

Pathfinders,

I regret that business has forced me away from the lodge, and so I must settle for a simple letter instead of providing you with a proper greeting.

An unusual pair of cults — The White Feather and the Roidirans — has taken root in the Qadiran mining town of Qaharid.
The White Feather are ascetics who believe enlightenment comes from giving away all worldly possessions and status, while the Roidirans follow the goddess Roidira, the Dark Sister of Knowledge.
To Roidirans, nothing matters more than following their goddess’ example and rejecting established wisdom to uncover universal truth.
Recently, Roidirans have been returning from forays outside of Qaharid in the throes of grief and causing quite a few disturbances.
Whatever knowledge the Roidirans have found in their pilgrimage must be significant, and so I’m asking you to investigate it further.
This mission requires poking your noses in affairs that Qadirans might deem embarrassing.
For that you’ll need a properly powerful patron, and one well-versed in matters of faith. No patron would be better for this situation than High Priestess Amal al-Sahba, who not only oversees Sarenite activities in all Maharev, but has the ear of the satrap himself as one of the exalted Peerless — his handpicked council of elite advisors.
If anyone can help you, she can.
When you meet with the high priestess, be sure to put your best effort into impressing her. Represent yourselves well, and she could prove a powerful ally in the future.
I’ve enclosed a sealed letter of recommendation, but it won’t be enough to just go up to al-Sahba and hand her the letter; she’s a busy woman with a province to run.
Fortunately, by the time you arrive, there will be an ongoing festival celebrating the invincibility of the sun and Sarenrae’s eternal light. Like most religious festivals, it is open to foreigners; perhaps you can get her attention there.
If you can’t reach her directly, however, try her wife, Lorah Meriwether. She’s not quite at her spouse’s level of prestige, but she heads a local trading guild, has plenty of connections, and — of course — has direct access to al-Sahba.
On top of all that, she’s foreign, and may be more sympathetic to your situation. If your attempts to gain the high priestess’s attention at the festival fail, find Meriwether during her office hours in the Customs House and talk to her.
When you have finished your business in Qaharid, I invite you to join me for a full-course dinner at the Katheer Lodge.
I look forward to hearing your report over spiced cake and tea.

May Shade Never Be Far,

Venture-Captain Esmayl ibn Qaradi

Qaharid, the Turquoise City, spreads out from its docks at the vertex of the Maharev and Meraz Rivers, its forest of minarets and spires proudly flaunting the lustrous copper mined from the surrounding hills. Though far from the cosmopolitan coasts, the city rises from its perch with an eagle’s pride that sports every color of the rainbow, as though it were itself a district of the grand metropolis of Katheer.
Fifty thousand souls call the city home, and it shows. People of every description hustle through the docks, and a cacophony of accents and languages mingle with the music of charming street buskers.
A rich market street lined with bright awnings and tents leads straight from the docks to the customs house, beyond which rise the golden spires of the Sarenite temple. No doubt the prospective patron in Venture-Captain Esmayl ibn Qaradi’s letter might be found there in the Temple Ward.
Freshly painted signs announce, in several languages, the entrance to Coppersmith Lane, a place whose workaday name belies the expensive temptations that beckon to passersby from its countless tables and stalls. Here and there, almost like blank spaces in the crowd, are the unadorned, crisp white cloaks and shifts of White Feather adherents.

As you walk down Coppersmith Lane, you can try to buy and haggle for stuff, notice things or hear rumors.

DC 13 Perception:
You notice that there are an unusual number of guards on duty, even for so crowded a place, including Sarenite paladins.

Speak Kelish or succeed at a DC 15 Linguistics check:
You notice amidst the chatter concerned whispers about the growing strength of the Roidirans. Will they do what they did yesterday? one woman asks.[ooc]Possibility to follow up with a diplomacy check here and interact with locals.

Beyond the crowds lies the Temple Ward, and perhaps a way of getting a certain High Priestess’ attention amidst all the chaos.

Juno stands on the docks of Qaharid impressed. She smiles at the wealth clearly on display and remarks, "My kind of place."

Juno is an attractive, well-groomed dwarven woman of sturdy frame with muscles well-honed from hard labour. She wears well-worn armour and carries a dwarven waraxe and steel shield. She wears nice looking silver jewelry, fashionable clothes, and wears her long red hair loose down her back. It's well-groomed and shines in the sunlight beautifully. She stands with pride.

She eyes anyone openly displaying wealth, fine clothes or power with jealousy as she wanders the streets of Qaharid. The sight of Coppersmith Lane makes her eyes widen and her smile broaden, but she tosses a disgusted sneer at the adherents of the White Feather as she nears them.

"Fools," she mutters in disgust.

Turning her attention to the shiny baubles and jewelry, Juno eyes the objects covetously.

As they reach the Temple Ward, Juno raises an eyebrow.

"So, the woman we're to woo is in there?" She lets out a whistle at the sight of the grand temple of Sarenrae. "No problem, right?" she asks her fellow Pathfinders, ensuring they're with her.

He towers over most of the locals, his powerful muscles rippling beneath his brown and red scales. Moria goes along with the others, her long braid swinging back and forth in every direction trying as her head moves to take everything in. This was her first mission and her enthusiasm couldn't be more apparent. Moria small for a human, with long brown hair tied in a braid and electric blue eyes and various items strewn about her, the like of which looked to be on the heavier side for her. As a general info, because some are new, when i post checks with spoilers, your characters can try those checks and if you succeed you can read what´s behind the spoiler. Those normaly mark the possibilities you have. Pathfinder Society is a bit of a railroad at times, but that´s to drive the story in the scenarios. The diplomacy check in this case must be made by someone who either made the linguistics check or speaks kelish. As far as i saw, nobody succeeded. If anyone wants to buy something seriously, please say so. Any normal items are available for sale.

It’s noontide on the longest day of the year, and yet the dry heat has done nothing to still the clamor of religious devotion. For all the schisms and debates within the Qadiran Sarenite church, today they are all one in her service. Unfolding on a canopied stage is the final scene of the Qadiran ballet, “The Dance of the Golden Veils,” depicting the remarkable triumph of Sarenite paladins against impossible odds, all to the melismatic strains of an orchestra performing beneath a sea of colorful parasols.
In the opposite corner of the square lay a large, inert machine some 30 feet in height depicting the evil god Rovagug and a worried priest pacing around it. A sign saying “See Sarenrae defeat the mighty Rovagug! Noon Today!” sits beside it, but it is past noon, the ballet is about to end, and there are no actors in sight to operate the clockwork monstrosity.

Moria realizes that this festival is probably a very good place to start if you want to impress a priestess of Sarenrae.
As you approach the worried looking priest of Sarenrae, he immediately turns to you: Can you please help me out? The usual actors are all curing their hangovers in some tavern and unable to perform. I urgently need some reenactors! He proceeds to explain to you how it works.

A much-beloved feature of the Sunwrought Festival is a reenactment of the battle between Sarenrae and Rovagug.
A young woman typically plays the role of the Dawnflower, while a group of actors operates a clockwork frame-andcloth affair to portray the Rough Beast. The usual crew is doubled over in the local inn nursing their hangovers, however, and the increasingly nervous young priest who
is choreographing today’s performance is ready to ask just about anyone to take on the all-important roles and get on with the show as noon approaches. When the PCs approach, he begs them to help, and explains the basics of performing the re-enactment.
The PC portraying Sarenrae can impress the audience by attempting an Acrobatics check to dance away from the Rovagug puppet’s attacks, a Knowledge (religion) check to precisely recite divine litanies, or a Perform (act, dance, oratory, or sing) check to charm the onlookers with her performance.
The rest of the PCs can work together to portray Rovagug.
Whoever is at the head can attempt an Acrobatics, Intimidate, Knowledge (engineering), or Perform (act or dance) check to put on an impressive display. All other PCs within the machine can attempt an aid another check using any of these skills to grant a bonus.

Moria, happy to not be doing a central roll, immediately warms up to the others enthusiasm as well. "All right, let's do this. I'll help with controlling the body too!"

She leaves her gear aside, of course, to not be encumbered during the performance.

Posted something in the discussion thread. You can totaly come up with reasonable other skills and good uses. Might even snack a little bonus, but please keep it reasonable and good roleplay. I´ll move this as soon as we cleared what i posted in discussions. Awesome roleplay so far!

Felix of the Golden Coin is a rather well-muscled sized young man with a somewhat bulky frame, hiding his strong muscles. He has soft green skin and medium tight braided blond hair in the colour of honey and amethyst coloured eyes.
He prefers a gray and brown coloured explorer´s outfit with a long blue overcoat, completed by a Parade Armor from Absolom and a long curved Falchion for battle.
Atypical for a half-orc he has a warm mellow Tenor voice and enjoys to sing.

”Well late, delayed or just fashionably on time, the show MUST go ON!!!”, the Nagaji says excitedly. He pulls together the costume needed to play Sarenrae and dumps it in the half-orc’s lap.

”I am Dusk by the way. Glad you made it. We need to impress a priestess of Sarenrae so this performance is very important.”

He then gets into the Rovagug end of the costume, shaking with excitement.

"I suppose a classically trained singer might be a better choice," says Sinset to Felix, stepping aside to let Felix take the lead role. "Let me lighten up that green skin a little and do your eyes and you'll be all set for the grand festival stage." Sinset takes out some makeup from his entertainer's kit.

I'll stand aside and liven up the performance with a few stage tricks I learned in Taldor.

No way is Sinset getting inside Rovagug. But I will try to enliven Felix's performance with a Dancing Lights and Ghost Sound spell

Cole feels his body shaking, then hears a voice and more shaking. Opening his eyes he hears the voice. Through eyes that are sore and a slight headache a man shakes him again and yells at him to get off the boat and that all his 'friends' have left and he can't stay here anymore.

"Ah hell's!" Cole says as he gets up and climbs off the boat.

"yeah yeah I'm going." He walks up to the market and looks around.

"Now where didja'all get to." He thinks.

Walking down through the market he takes in the sight while looking for his fellow Pathfinders/

but he's a bit distracted by the pretty faces of the local ladies and throws a smile their way whenever he passes one.

Cole stands at 5'9" with shoulder length sandy brown hair tied away from his face but still a little wild looking. A loose shirt with sleeves rolled up and some leather armour that looks like it was picked up and thrown together. Loose breeches and soft leather boots.
On his left hip he carries a well used but old looking Iron Rapier and on his back an overstuffed backpack. He has a tankard hanging from his belt with the symbol of Cayden Cailean upon it.

Eventually he see's the rest of the group shuffling around the big mechanical Rovagug and so he saunters over.

"Hey y'all. sorry for being so late to the party. Whats up with Rovagug here? Ugly thing ain't he."

He rubs his hands together "So what'd I miss?"

Glad you are back. Hope all is well and you have recovered from your cold. My understanding is that Felix will play Sarenrae and Sinset will aid using minor spells, like dancing lights and ghost sound to enhance his performance.

Dusk is correct. Felix took the part of Sarenrae, and I assisted him by covering over his green skin and adding some eyeliner from my make-up kit, then casting dancing lights and ghost sound to assist his performance. I rolled a Diplomacy check because I had no idea what else to do ;)

If I'm reading the numbers right Felix rolled an 11 for Acrobatics and a 14 for Performance sing. Let's hope the crowd isn't too tough.
