There are bottles of every shape, size, and color imaginable scattered around the sprite's domain. Most of them aren't corked, so you know there's nothing special about them - just simple glass bottles of various construction. One, however, is corked and sitting near a large fungus.
Do you:
A: FIll one of the bottles from the fountain?
B: Have a look at the corked bottle?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Misroi |
You pick up the corked bottle, and are surprised to find that while it's filled, it's not filled with a liquid but some sort of powder that clings to the inside. A label on the bottom reads "Mushroom Disintigration Powder." Probably could have come in handy against that killer mushroom you encountered earlier. You store it away, just in case you run into another one somewhere.
Do you:
A: Fill one of the bottles from the fountain?
B: Investigate something else?
Misroi |
You pick around for what looks to be the cleanest bottle you can find, and you fill the bottle with the fountain's water, and stopper it with a cork you find under the cap of one of the oversized mushrooms.
You now have a potion of magic resistance, which will allow you to negate all damage from a single magical attack when you drink it.
Do you investigate:
A: The fountain?
B: The bottles?
C: A big mushroom behind the fountain?
D: The waterfall of transportation?
E: A strange orange fungus near the fountain?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Just a Mort |
Investigate the fountain, then drink from it.
I was considering using the waterfall of transportation to give him one of our healing potions for the magic sword, then showing up at faerie court with magic resistance potion

Fill bottle from fountain

We were told that the bottled fountain water is a potion of magic resistance?
Zanbabe |
Hmm, I read back and you're right, she would probably let us. Still... it's too easy. What if it counts as eating and drinking down here, or the effect is random, or she gets mad that we already took some of her water and now we want more? Let's examine and then decide. Caution, right? Maybe I'm paranoid, but we can't risk our potions. We need one for the king and one for the smith.
Misroi |
The sprite's fountain seems to belong more in a formal garden than a forest of wild mushrooms and faeries. You can't tell where the water comes from, or why it never overflows the pool, but it never ceases to flow, and it never seems to increase the water level. A bas-relief of a bottle sits at the center of the fountain, carved and painted with exquisite care. "My trademark," the sprite says produly as you regard her handiwork. "The writing around the bottom is my slogan." At her prompting, you regard the writing: Sprite Lite, the cool water that keeps you safe. You don't know about that, but the cool mist that caresses your face from the fountain is refreshing. You feel tempted to climb into the fountain and cool off.
Do you:
A: Climb on in?
B: Decide to check something else out?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Misroi |
You take off your boots and step into the fountain, reveling in the coolness of the water.
"HEY!", shouts the sprite, leaping up from the toadstool she had been reclining on moments earlier. "That's my livelihood you're getting dirty!" Suddenly, you feel a tiny arrow pierce your shoulder. In pain, you fall, feeling the cool water wash over your face. Blackness soon follows.
You gradually come to, lying on the ground in dew-covered grass. You sit up, marveling at how quickly you fell asleep inside the mound, but your heart falls into your stomach as you see a massive earthen barrow at the center of the clearing you now find yourself in - the faerie mound itself! Somehow, you've awakened outside the mound, and all of the items you've found have disappeared!
So, here's the rub - you can either start over from the beginning, or crush a Gem to undo this last action. Since you technically are starting over, you'd also have your Gems restored as well.
Do you:
A: Start your quest anew?
B: Restore from a previous save?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Just a Mort |
We won't keep our items on restart but I suspect we may be able to go to the same places to get them? Doesn't matter since I'm outvoted on this.
Zanbabe |
We already get to see the paths less taken, really, by going back and making other choices.
I mean, of course other than unkilling things. I'd rather get further in the plot. We can always start over.
Misroi |
Just a Mort has the right reading - if you restart, you're basically starting over anew. Anything you've found is removed from your list, any single use items you used are restored (including Life Gems!), and areas are treated as this is the first time you've been to them. Basically, if you restart, everything that happened thus far is a dream, and didn't actually happen!
Misroi |
You crush one of your two remaining gems, and find yourself back at the fountain, with one of your boots unlaced. Thinking better of things, you tie it back up, and ponder your next move. You realize you only have one other thing to examine here, and that's the waterfall again.
You have 1 Life Gem remaining. As per previous usages of the waterfall, you can choose any chamber to return to.
Misroi |
You return to the dwarf's clearing, and are unsurprised to see him still toiling away at the sword. Once again, you wait until he's letting the metal heat in the forge before speaking to him.
"Ah, you're back," he says at last, wiping his soot-covered hands on his leather pants. "Come to trade in magic weapons?"
"I haven't found any you'd be interested in," you reply, unshouldering your backpack. "But I could trade for that sword of nightmare control, if you still have it."
"That I do, lad, that I do. Do you have a gem or potion for Felafel?"
I'm assuming since you came here, you're wanting to trade one. Which one?
Do you give him the:
A: potion of healing?
B: potion of magic resistance?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Zanbabe |
Don't really care. We told the other faerie that we'd advertise her product, so I suppose hanging on to that one for now makes sense, but then again... healing. Have to show on to the king though, so can't really *use* it, at least for now, but it seems useful after that. So... either way. Healing if no one else chimes in, and flip a coin if someone else chooses differently.
Misroi |
"I have this [i]potion of healing," you reply, offering it to the dwarf. "Will that suffice?"
"Aye, Felafel will certainly like that," he says, taking the glowing flask. "Now then, your sword." He takes the large blade off from the side of the forge and hands it to you. "Use it well, lad." With that, he returns to work on his own blade, leaving you free to explore.
Do you investigate:
A: The dwarf's key?
B: The hedgehog?
C: A hollow tree that contains a stairway leading up?
D: The anvil?
E: A hole with log steps?
F: The weapons on the forge wall?
G: The dwarf's hammer?
H: A pouch hanging from a nearby branch?
I: The forge's bellows?
J: A path leading off into the woods with horseshoe prints on it?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Misroi |
You begin treading the path from the dwarf's clearing, following the freshly-made hoofprints. It winds its way through an ancient forest, and divides into two paths - one well worn by many travelers, but the hoofprints go down the more difficult path.
Two paths diverge in a yellow wood. Which do you take?
A: The road more traveled?
B: The road less traveled?
Sorry, had to reference Frost. That's not in the book, just my own nerdiness. :)
Just a Mort |
The road less travelled. So everything hasnt been looted up yet! Moar loot for us!
Misroi |
You begin to follow the trail, and as you step upon the tracks, you find yourself magically transported in a blast of flame!
You don't even have a second to gather your wits about you before a massive black horse with flaming hooves threatens to stamp you into the ground. The heat from the nightmare's hooves and from two nearby firepits stings your nose an eyes, stifling your senses. The harsh screams of the evil horse from another plane of existence pierces your ears, overwhelming you.
Wait...a nightmare! You draw your sword of nightmare control, and brandish it. In a moment, the creature calms down, slowing his prancing and ceasing his echoing screams. At last, this quiet, beautiful black horse stands before you, the last signs of nervousness tippling away from his body. You pat his nose calmingly.
Do you wish to:
A: Ride the nightmare?
B: Explore the room?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Just a Mort |
Explore the room! Moar loot! Good thing we had the sword of Nightmare control!
Zanbabe |
That does sound like the safest thing to do... although, you know, if it were a choose your own adventure book I'd go read the page just to see what *would* have happened if we rode the evil horse.
Misroi |
With the nightmare pacified, you turn your attention to the hellscape before you. Three firepits dominate the room, burning without an apparent fuel source. A glass bell jar sits off to the side, containing what appears to be flowers. A chariot with a glowing gem sits in the cavern, and there is a road with hoofprints leading away.
Do you investigate:
A: The firepits?
B: The bell jar with flowers?
C: The chariot?
D: The road?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
Misroi |
The flowers in the dome look completely alien in this setting that you're sure they must have some significance. You pick up the jar, and study it. The flowers are elaborately set - whoever arranged them had incredible skill. Then again, you wonder if anything in this place is what it really seems. Without opening the jar, you really can't determine more than this.
Do you:
A: Open the dome?
B: Leave the dome and investigate something else?
Voting closes tomorrow evening.
