What was that confusion aura? Seemed ridiculously powerful for this level...

![]() |

That's a bit nuts to put an 8th level cleric power in tier 1-2... That seems like TPK bait right there. Even in tier 3-4 it's way off the mark.
Presuming it acts the same then, the effect ends completely when you leave the aura, but you aren't immune to it if you re-enter... so everyone re-entering should get a new save.

![]() |

I've seen worse Marcus, he he.
While Masym is no cold-blooded murderer, knowing the priest was the cause of him attempting to kill his Snow-Sister he would have done the dirty deed himself.

![]() |

Yeah, I've seen some bad ones as well... but I usually take a star or 2 off of my rating for stuff like that... at least when I take the time to write them... which I should probably start doing again. Using the 'young' template to shove a monster into a subtier is another great way to TPK parties.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Maybe I am a glutton for punishment but I quite liked that

![]() |

Could be on Londo's boat too but I quite enjoyed that fight!
Would have been more dramatic if I had kept the Smite Evil, but still, loads of fun! Really cut that one close!

![]() |

I was fine with it in this tier as a reasonable challenge booster, it's just the mention of that aura existing in tier 1-2 that really puts me off.

![]() |

Right in Fifi's heart...RIP hahaha

![]() |

Yeah, I enjoyed that battle too.

![]() |

Midge is in 'finger waggling' mode. You'd better watch it, guys! Haha.

EM±GM |

And, in case you guys were not aware, we are nearing the end of this particular scenario... we will be segueing right into the next.
I mention it now in case folks have leveling to do, so you can be ready to go when we transition.
And, since this is still Gameday, we can win boons, which I will roll for now!
(19's and 20's are your friends)
Fifi: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Kioshi: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Londo: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Marcus: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Masym: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Midge: 1d20 ⇒ 12
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 4
And, it would seem, Londo will win boon number 1d4 ⇒ 3!

I am going on a trip for my anniversary this weekend so starting tonight I am going to be unreliable at best til Sunday evening at the earliest.

![]() |

Congrats! Have a great time!

Marcus would like to leave a letter in an attempt to recruit Orfeo to the Sovereign Court...
Dear Orfeo, I hope this letter finds you well after your harrowing ordeal. It was a pleasure to work with you and I hope that you and your family would be willing to maintain an open line of communication. Should the winds ever change against you, know you can find friends among the Sovereign CourtPathfinder Society.
-Baronet Marcus Vulpares Fantailler
Diplomacy DC 23: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 Fail
Was probably too casual... he'll come around though...

EM±GM |

Before things get too far off the rails... which can be fun to, but I'm trying to get to the start of the next bit, not drag this one out more =)
We could debate paladin tenets 'til the cows came home... but I don't see any reason to bring them up now.
But, I would like to cover one of the items... as I find it comes up a lot.
-I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my actions. [as Taldans would be considered ignorant of Sarenite faith]
I wouldn't call the Taldans ignorant. They have a very real reason for being the way they are. It may be outdated, but it is not without cause.
I've played and GM'd alot of PFS scenarios over the years, you see hints to the dark side of the sarenrite religion more than you'd think... especially historically. So it is even somewhat Golarion canon.
Taldor is no different than the entire country of Rahadoum ... though Taldor just 'mostly outlawed' one... while Rahadoum kicked out the entire lot. (and for the record, a lot of that was Sarenrae worshippers' fault to... I think only Rovagug is officially outlawed in more places!)
The Dawnflower probably has more bodies connected to those following her name, than some of the evil aligned gods, truth be told)
Fifi really needs to read some history!
Who knows, maybe some day she'll take a rank in Knowledge (history)! =)

![]() |

That's true enough. Fifi doesn't really know what Sarenites have done in Golarion - she is ignorant to the Crusades, and the extremists.
She only knows of the Dawnflower's existence, and her core tenets - not how they're carried out throughout Golarion.
To her, the aspect that appeals most to her is the redemption domain. Sarenrae is the only deity to have actual reformed devils and efreeti in her home. That, to her, is the ideal of good and love, despite how her followers interpret the tenets of the faith.

EM±GM |

Midge!
I was starting to prep chronicles and such, and realized, as I was looking at the saved copy I have from the previous scenario, that it had the wrong Faction listed for you!
Did that mistake make it through to you, or was that just on my local copy? (I have a somewhat convoluted process of creating them, which makes either option entirely possible =))
And more importantly, do you care!

EM±GM |

Oh, and back on the topic of chronicles...
Marcus, somewhere, in the back of my overly-busy brain, I seem to have this vague recollection of you saying you were going to do this scenario on Slow progression... but can't for the life of me find a reference to that happening... so not sure if I was imagining things or confused or on drugs or what.
Clarification?

![]() |

You had mentioned that at some point during this campaign Marcus should slow track a scenario or so. I wasn't planning on it being this one necessarily. As it stands, Marcus will level from this unless it is slow track. I'm fine with whatever helps you keep subtier sanity.

![]() |

Hi GM, just a note: Kioshi including this scenario currently has 8 xp.
Kioshi has 3 scenario chronicle sheets (total 3 xp) waiting for him at level 4 for playing pregens earlier this year which will push him to level 5 after the next scenario (when he reaches level 4) and given the fact that this is my -1 character I would not like to go slow progression as I would love to experience high level play and PF1 ... who knows how long it’s played. ;-)

![]() |

Looking over Masym here it looks like he will level up to 5th after this scenario completes, but that should be OK as, since he has already played in the next scenario, he will not be playing in it so he will stay in tier.

![]() |

Yes, the level difference is too much, right?. :-(
Is bringing in another character after the next scenario an option?

![]() |

Londo levels to 5 after the next scenario as well (which you should have figured given he was level 4 to begin with)

![]() |

Marcus has 1.5 XP pending at each level. He went in with 5.5XP. After the first scenario he gained 1 XP from the scenario and 1.5 for pending chronicle, putting him to 8 XP. After this he goes to 9 + 1.5 = 10.5XP. If you want to slow track him for the next couple he'll stay level 4 for a bit, keeping him close to Masym and Londo. Kioshi will be rapidly catching up, but Midge and Fifi will be... 3? Having a party of level 3-5 seems like a reasonable spread given that the subtiers here are 1-2, 3-4, and 6-7.
Expected levels for next 4 scenarios
Londo 4 - 5 - 5 - 5
Masym x - 5 - 5 - 5
Marcus 4 - 4 - 4 - 5
Kioshi 3 - 4 - 5 - 5
Midge 3 - 3 - 3 - 4
Fifi 3 - 3 - 3 - 4
APL 3.4, 4, 4.16, 4.6
Devil We Know 2 - APL 3.4, Tier 3-4, Max PC level 4
Devil We Know 3 - APL 4, Tier 3-4, Max PC level 5
Devil We Know 4 - APL 4.16, Tier 3-4, Max PC level 5
Dalsine Affair - APL 4.6, Tier 6-7, Max PC level 5
Seems like we run into trouble for the finale, but for DWK 2-4 we wont have anyone really out of tier aside from level 5s where there is no subtier for 5.

EM±GM |

Not quite, but close. Kioshi will never be level 4, he skips straight to 5 now apparently.
But you are missing the main issue.
These older scenarios are designed for 4 people. To make it a 'reasonable spread' I'd have to remove two PC's. What might seem a reasonable spread in later seasons, is no such thing in the earlier ones. I try to make the encounters interesting and not a complete walkover. But all this outside leveling makes it harder and harder as we go along. Thus why I'm griping a little.
Trust me, it was hard enough in the current scenario, when the NPC's were level 1 and 2, and 2 of the PC's were level 4
It will be a hundred times worse when half the PC's are level 5, out of tier (high), and one of them is throwing around hastes and fireballs.
But it is the hand you've now dealt me. 8P

Midge!

...Ak! You did indeed write the wrong faction on the last chronicle! How did I not notice this? Haha. As long as it was reported properly that's fine with me. I can fix my chronicle myself.

EM±GM |

on that note, have reported this one (including Londo's boon) and am working on the chronicles now.
Always forget all about the Day Job stuff... so roll them if you have 'em!
Also, ask any faction card questions you might have.
- you did rescue roughly 50 people, so there is that.
- the slavers were CR 2 or less, so only Midge can use that
- the undead were cr 2 or less
- there were a bunch of divine casters of evil gods, but again, only CR 2 or less.
- and of course, there was an artifact, but you did not recover it

![]() |

I won the Celestial Traveler boon in another game and I'm going to apply it to Midge. It reads:
"Between your mission for the Pathfinder Society, you seek opportunities to connect with the Upper Planes. You may spend your downtime and 4 PP to travel to either Nirvana or Elysium. If you do so you may elect one of the following benefits, crossing the other off you Chronicle sheet.
[] Celestial Spark: You can a +1 bonus on saving throw against the spells and spell-like abilities of outsiders with the evil subtype. Additionally, you may check the box that precedes this boon to send forth a surge of channeled energy that harms evil outsiders, as if you were a cleric of your level with the alignment channel feat. [...] (the rest is irrelevant)
She's capable of paying the PP to earn the celestial spark ability right away, but she also wouldn't 'leave' in the middle of a series of missions. Do you mind if I spend the PP and use it after this mission, but hold off on describing Midge taking a jaunt to Elysium until we have enough time in-character (I obviously don't know if that will be possible at all), or would you prefer I wait until she has the time to actually take a trip to Elysium in our downtime to spend the PP?

EM±GM |

Go ahead ... there will be a bit of downtime in Cassomir before things blow up again... enough for a quick planar jaunt and back, I'm sure. At least that one doesn't necessarily interrupt the narrative... and can be worked in, as planar travel doesn't require you to actually go anywhere! No travel time!

![]() |

Forgoing downtime to reinforce my political connections.
Nobility DC 18: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 Fail
No checkboxes this time.

![]() |

Profession:Soldier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

![]() |

I was about to say - hey I don't have a Day Job!
Then remembered Fifi does provide dancing lessons haha
Perform(dance): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

![]() |

Updates for Fifi:
-Fifi got her own Wand of CLW! And a Shining Wayfinder just because!
-Fifi's Lay on Hands now cures Shaken.
-Fifi is now immune to disease! Magical or otherwise7.
-Fifi bought "The Cost of Beneficence" boon.

![]() |

Looks like some of Marcus's... less savory connections have begun to pan out! (AKA, Plunder and Peril chronicle applied)
He shall now be wielding a +1 Cutlass (2315 gp) embossed with the name Fearsome Tide. Today, the blade... tomorrow the ship!

![]() |

Londo has done absolutely nothing fancy and in an effort to keep the game balanced has bought no new equipment

![]() |

Marcus is all style and no substance. He spent 2k gold for +1 to damage.

![]() |

Way to break Midge's heart!

![]() |

By the way, Midge is free to keep that sash for the duration of the session.
You don't worship Sarenrae I don't think so you don't get the free heal at 0 HP but it is still a constant Endure Elements vs warm and a free feather fall.

![]() |

@ Londo: So Rora's playing Duskmire Accord, and I feel the need to point out how much she misses Grinds.

![]() |

Grinds really needs to hook back up with that group.
