Bulgo Bluefoot |
Bulgo eyes up the tall knight. Tapping his umbrella on the ground he suggests. "There are lots of things in the quarter. But after seven years, don't you think many should be left alone?"
He tries to assess the caliber of the knight in front of him
sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Does he seem like he is sorry for what he did, or could he maybe still be playing two games?
Bargus Highbrew |
Bargus looks at the regal looking soldier, then looks at J, trying to read both her and the Eagle Knight.
Sense Motive @ J: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Sense Motive @ Colson: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
"Now, now... introductions should be done, with a drink.!", Bargus turning to pour some ale into a mug and offers it to Maldris.
Haro はろ |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Haro watch in wonderment. Not understanding much of what is going on.
GM Baerlie |
Colson Maldris seems to be sorry that he conscripted his younger brother to aid in spying, but he also knows that some information might cause trouble in the wrong hands. He wants the papers and intelligence Grishan collected long time ago. J. does not know what to do and lets you talk, she has a lot of respect. "Did you find something? If you found the information I'm looking for, please hand it to me. This information can be dangerous in the wrong hands." he asks again.
Bargus Highbrew |
"Aye.", Bargus answers, not feeling the need to lie. He then looks at Arianna for guidance in this situation.
Arianna "Anna" Turvanar |
"Riiight... so you just want to make sure this information does not see the light... we could just destroy it them."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Anna looks at J.
"What do you think boy?"
Bulgo Bluefoot |
"And while we are talking about information not coming to light..." says Bulgo.. "You, as a pathfinder, should know that information always comes to light eventually. Is there anything you feel you might want to clear up?"
He gestures to the yard.
"This is where your brother spent a lot of time. If his spirit is anywhere, maybe it is here. Perhaps you might want to say a quiet apology to him for something. Or even a goodbye."
He points to a tree, far enough away to give privacy, but close enough to allow Grishan to head there if he wanted to.
"Perhaps over there. Away from us."
Maldrek "el liberto" |
After waiting a little to see if Colson Maldris does as Bulgo suggested, Maldrek participates in the conversation.
While I´ll agree information can do some harm if it falls in the wrong hands. What make yours hands right?
It´s the first time we met. No one knows anything from the other, why you will trust me or why I should trust you?
Tell us about your interest in the "information", and tell us the truth, so we can trust in you. This way you could also trust in us.
GM Baerlie |
"I know this looks bad. And I’m not going to try to justify my actions. These notes paint everyone they touch in a negative light. But, Pathfinders, in situations such as this one, it is important to consider the bigger picture, the greater good, and the unfortunate realities of politics. Skilled orators can take even the hint of scandal and spin it into a mountain to bury their target, preventing almost anyone from seeing the accomplishments and value of the people beneath. Remember what we discovered two years ago, my friends, and the seeds of corruption threatening Andoran that sparked the decision to separate Liberty’s Edge as its own entity. Were this information to become public, members of that conspiracy among Andoran’s politicians would use their oratory against all our works, which would deal a crippling blow to our cause’s influence. They would tarnish not only my own reputation, but the reputation of the Liberty’s Edge as a whole, and by extension, the reputations and of all of the Pathfinders who tirelessly work under our banner to promote the cause of freedom. It may even spell the end of our movement to promote the cause of freedom throughout the Inner Sea and beyond!" Maldris answers.
"Grishan had a brilliant mind, and he was eager to do whatever he could to serve the cause of freedom. I suggested that if he helped the cause of the Eagle Knights before he was old enough to be eligible, they would certainly accept him."
Junia shoots Arianna an annoyed glance and releases Grishan. Major Maldris is taken aback. His eyes flash with fury, then soften as he realizes J. isn't playing a cruel joke, and he whispers, "G-Grishan?". "Brother…not yet." Grishan answers. Grishan’s conflicting emotions cause tears to roll down J.’s face. If pressed, J. explains that Grishan isn’t ready to talk yet. Major Maldris is distraught, and he apologizes to his brother for not being able to save him.
It falls to you to decide what to do with the information packet.
He thanks you profusely and ensures them that you will not regret your contributing to the cause of freedom this day.
Maldris is slightly less pleased, but he still thanks them for preventing what could have been a catastrophe.
Colson Maldris shakes his head sorrowfully and departs.
Maldrek "el liberto" |
Just remember some of the notes talk about Junia´s family. Due her connection to Grisham, hurting her will be like hurting your brother.
And this will also mean, breaking our trust in you. So you won´t continue trusting on us knowing nothing about this "information". Maldrek doesn´t sound threatening, he never had been able to sound this way, but at least he hopes to sound sincere when he says they wouldn´t like to see Junia hurt.
Haro はろ |
Haro shrugs, "Common writing is not good. Don't know what these are." he is good with what the group decides.
GM Baerlie |
"I think they have to be destroyed. I'm sorry that I spied on all these families." Grishan answers and Maldris takes out a flint and steel. "You are right, these have to be destroyed." he says and hands you the flint and steel. "But I want to see them destroyed here, just to make sure you are not going to sell them somewhere else."
GM Baerlie |
Maldris watches the papers burn, nods and leaves.
After Major Maldris leaves, Junia speaks for Grishan. "Thank you. From me and Grishan too."
"I always wanted to be an Eagle Knight like Colson. He got his wings so young, and I wanted to follow him anywhere, and fight for freedom, no matter what." Grishan says. "I’m not alive anymore, but I can still help Colson. Good."
Both J. and Grishan have learned much about themselves and their power. J. feels that she is ready to finally leave the Drownyard behind her, but has come to realize that she cannot follow in her mother’s footsteps. She instead wishes to strike out on her own and get to know her newfound powers better. She also asks if any of you might be willing to sponsor her to begin training with the Pathfinder Society.
Grishan, for his part, has a better understanding of his past and his relationship with his brother. He realizes that his bond with her is far stronger than the connection he still feels with his brother, and he is determined to follow J. wherever her journeys might take her.
Colson Maldris sends a hefty sum of gold your way. Several weeks later, Venture-Captain Dreng reports that the haunts at the Drownyard have all disappeared, and he thanks you for their efforts.
The End...
