Hello all!
Posting in the OOC thread first.
Quillen's the new-comer jumping into your PFS series.
I appreciate the consideration, GM Aarvid, and hope you guys will enjoy Quillen's company.
His crunch should all be viewable in his profile, now.
As always, I do it all in HeroLab, so there shouldn't be any mistakes. :)
EDIT: Looks like I need to browse for a picture, still.

GM Aarvid |

Welcome. I expect the others will join over in the gameplay thread soon. You all can do introductions as everyone arrives.

I've gone ahead and changed Elindriel's stats a bit - made her a bit more martial (increased Str to 16, decreased Dex to 14 and Cha to 16), and went with Dodge instead of Weapon Finesse. That, plus switching to longsword, should put her solidly in the front lines...with arcane strike, it just seems to make more sense.

![]() |

I changed Hawk's stats a little too. Cha from 18 to 17, str from 13 to 14, dex from 12 to 13. Swapped out Obscuring Mist for Divine Favor (Magic Weapon was a good idea but I decided against it). I'll get the 18 cha back at level 4.
I would have swapped out Toughness for Power Attack but I forgot that you need 1 BAB for it. Oh well, toughness isn't a bad feat.

Anyone have any opinion on using gold to purchase MW equipment early on for the extra boost vs. saving gold to purchase magic items later? Specifically, I was thinking the pearl of power from Part II would be nice, but it's 1000gp. I would need to save all the gold I got from the last run, plus the gold for this one, and possibly more besides, in order to buy it. Stack that against spending 315gp on a MW Longsword or 300gp on a str +3 shortbow...
Thoughts?

![]() |

Howdy all.
Just as a head's up I'll be gaming most of tomorrow in case things get a little busy.
Sallah (who should be our 6th) should be chiming in tomorrow morning.
I believe a pearl of power only helps prepared casters, and not a spontaneous caster like a bard.

I used PP to buy masterwork armor and gold to buy a masterwork longspear. I thought you could 'pay the difference' to upgrade items so long as it was a natural progression of the existing item. Is that wrong?
(you can't go from normal to masterwork, but you could go from masterwork -> +1)
I'll need to double check that though.

GM Aarvid |

Before we can leave the city I need all sheets and gear updated.
I will also need move rate with that gear/load.
Ideally...
"Your name: xxxxxxxx Move rate: 30' Rations: xx days. Init: +x perc: +x"
Sallah, I do not see a sheet yet, so will need that updated when you can.
Quillen, I see a base move rate of 30' but did not see a feat to increase movement from 20'. Admittedly, I am not that familiar with witches, so could be missing it.

![]() |

Quillen has the halfling racial trait "fleet of foot" which replaces "sure-footed". This gives him a 30ft base movement instead of +2 to Acrobatics and +2 to Climb and is great if you're not a roguish halfling.
It looks like HeroLab isn't all that reliable in including that little tidbit in it's BBcode output, although it did manage to include the Adaptable Luck racial trait OK.
Quillen the Lucky
Movement: 30ft
Trail rations: 5 days
Init: +3
Perception: +2
Now I'm nervous about only having 5 days of rations. Someone has Survival, right? :)

GM Aarvid |

Ok, great. Thanks. I knew I was missing something. I guess if rations run out, you can always resort to eating wild nuts and berries or horse meat, or hare. :-)

My horse will carry all my equipement except wapons armor thieves tools. I will update it all in Hero Lab tonight and put it on when I get back from work.

GM Aarvid |

Note the top of the campaign page has a link to the map. Please verify you can see it and find your token. This has been working fairly well, so Sallah and Quillen let me know if you have issues seeing it.

GM Aarvid |

I was wondering the same thing. I will PM him and see. We will continue onward and see if he shows up.

![]() |

we only have until august to finish this before they retire it. I am assuming we have no problem doing that of course.

GM Aarvid |

LOL we should be fine. I accelerated the river crossing a bit...and there are some other parts that I may do the same to keep things moving. More environmental hazards etc.

GM Aarvid |

I have not heard from Archmoon, so he may decide to head back to town or stay here and help the Centaur's hunt down the prowling cat.

I had heard through the grapevine that a PFS scenario usually takes about 4-6 weeks to complete via play-by-post - typically tackling one encounter per week.
I'm kind of assuming/hoping that we'll be good completing by June.

GM Aarvid |

We have been running about 6-8 weeks...personally I think the first steps run longer than the regular scenarios since there are more weak encounters rather than a few powerful fights.
I am running another and it is going much quicker. Nevertheless, we should be able to wrap up by sometime in June.

GM Aarvid |

@Hawk, Since you do not have a picture tied to your profile it makes it easy for me to sometimes miss your comments (like your 4 channels today). If you get a chance, you may want to add a picture to Hawk.
I am going to keep pushing through the environmental stuff relatively quickly. Let me know if anyone wants to interact more...and we can always go back.

GM Aarvid |

Thanks...I had noticed before I had missed some posts and went back and saw them. This will help make sure you voice is heard so to speak.

Consumables found during play question -
I understand that anything we find during play is usable but needs to be sold at the end of the adventure.
If we use those consumables does it count against the money we get at the end? If we find a potion and drink it do we get the money for 'finding it'. If we use the wand to heal us it will need to be sold with whatever charges remain - but do lose lost charges count against the money we would otherwise receive?

GM Aarvid |

Sounds good...although probably not going to see much action at this point in your adventure.
Which brings me to another question. My other table wrapped up and this one is close to seeing most of you pathfinders ready to take on some bigger adventures.
I am probably going to run a 1-5 scenario next and was curious if any of you were interested or ready to for a change of GMs? Eli and Elindriel are the only two to have survived all 3 first steps from the original group. What plans do folks have if you survive the trip back?

![]() |

If we think we'll be wrapped and have chronicles by the middle of next week, both Sallah and I will be attending a local convention over the Memorial Day holiday.
I wouldn't mind the option to take Quillen out for a test drive in person... I need to work on my halfling voice. :)

I would be more than happy to join any campaign you're running, GM, if you're looking to run something after this. As I have gotten a bit more experience at PbP, I've come to realize that getting a good GM is far from guaranteed, so best to keep going with a good one when you can. :-)

Hawk will still be level 1 after this, having not completed first steps #1 but I'd like to stick around. So far he's been fairly handy in and out of combat though and will still have about as much hitpoints at level 1 as Elindriel will have at level 2 :)
