The little gray thing follows Lebraieo, opting to follow the man's example and draw his naginata. Shadowfang follows behind him.

Got an idea. Cast it on the feather of my arrow, and I'll shot it into a wood crate or something. If some others can use the same spell, I'll use the same strategy, so we'll got two or three sources of light.

![]() |

In his mind Archimeles conceives of a system of longbow ammunition where in one of every five arrows has such a spell upon it, but then discards the idea as stupid because once every five shots you'd be able to pick out the archer against the dark from a mile away.
He lights his lantern in hopes of illuminating the situation further.

Low-light vision, no light spell
Lizbeth slips into the warehouse with the others, drawing her Rapier in a smooth motion as she does so and looks around the place.
"Seems abandoned alright, just by the smell, anyone see a crate with three crows or whatever nonesense it was?"
She has a search herself, keeping close to the intriguing gray skinned creature that didn't seem to talk much.

@Lizbeth {Low-light vision, no Light spell secret handshake} What up, sister?
Kara moves into the warehouse, staying behind the annoying philosopher who is doing his character hilariously well done and scans for the noted crate.

Kara moves hesitantly, farther inside.

Kara digs in her backpack for the length of rope tied neatly inside.
It looks like it might fall. Help me run this rope underneath it to support the weight.
I read "precarious" as "about to fall". Is that correct?

![]() |

Knowledge engineering in case it helps to support the crate weight: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Pyrgo helps Kara to put a rope under the crate and looks where to tie his end.
If anyone has more rope we can reinforce this better. I also have one, but I´ll prefer to tie it to me before trying to go to the crate.
Veilblade, you look like the strongest of us. Can you pick the other end of the rope and lift me up if I fall?
Once all the preparations are done, Pyrgo will undon his armor, ask if someone can keep it a few minutes and try to balance toward the crate.
Acrobatics take ten, without armor penalty: 10 + 8 = 18
If take ten is disallowed: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Now I only hope the crate is open. Or at least easy to force open

GM Skipper |

@Kara, It seems stable for now, but might not hold up to much tamperig.
Pyrgo line walks out to crate and avoids slipping into the harbor below. Luckily, the crate opens easily, but the planks he and crate are balancing on start to creek ominously.
Inside the crate is a assortment of gear and mahogany box. The planks start creaking louder now, so Pyrgo will need to think fast.

![]() |

The short gray one is happy to hold the rope for Pyrgo, but suggests that he be very careful when walking out onto the planks.

Can you throw the contents to us before the planks break? Or can we drag the whole crate back onto solid floor?
Those are really questions directed at the GM. :-)

knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"Oh my stars and garters...." Archimeles says in a slow, measured, sage-like tone. Only his slightly widening eyes betray that he is feeling anything. Seeing the stick-figure-like Pygro climbing out upon the narrow support toward the crate is like seeing the perfect platonic image of imminent utter chaos and disaster to his way of thinking (which is of course the only sensible way to do it), and yet he cannot stop watching.
"Keep it up man! We'll name an enigma after you back at the Academy*! Pygro's Paradox! Hah!"
* The name of a tavern Archimeles and a number of other philosophers frequent. Brutal fist-fights are nightly occurrence there as the customers often grapple with really big issues, and it must be said, each other.

Quick! Toss me the contents of the crate and get off of there before you fall!
Kara waits to catch anything thrown by Pyrgo.

Combat over
In the meantime, the crate has sunk to the bottom of the harbor. Luckily enough for you, one of the items Pyrgo managed to save is the mahogany box, which contains a collection of books and cargo manifests. He also saved a footprint book, a bag of chalk powder and two sets of masterwork thieves' tools.

![]() |

Kara looks dejectedly at the spot where the crate vanished, wondering idly what treasures are now lost to the sea's cold embrace.
Well, at least we salvaged the books and papers we came for. Let's return them to Guaril Karela before someone spots us here.
Her rope no longer needed, she gathers it up and prepares to leave.
May I see that book and the bag? I'm sure someone can use those special tools, but not I.

The fight with the rats over before she could even think to act, Lizbeth shrugs and decides to take the chance to rummage through the rest of the warehouses' contents, taking care to ignore the spoiled food.

I'm not familiar with a "footprint book". Is this something Kara would know about?
Footprints Book This 50-page tome contains accurate drawings of various common animal, humanoid, and monster tracks, as well as notes on stride length, tread depth, and similarly useful information. The book gives you a +2 circumstance bonus to identify a creature by its tracks, though the use of shoes makes identifying many humanoids difficult or impossible. Though the book can’t help you identify unique individuals, it can help you tell an ogre footprint from a troll footprint, or an elf's track from an orc's. Books sold in different areas may have different footprints, depending on what creatures are common to that location. Price 50 gp; Weight 3 lbs.

Lizbeth pockets a flask of acid from the warehouse crates and heads back to pickled imp, not glad to leave the docks as that is where she feels most at home. Once inside the shop she shrugs elegantly at Guaril's question.
"Fine by all accounts, as Kara says here is your box, now just back to the Grand lodge for a pat on the backs eh?"

Did anybody else get a chill down their spine? As if we'd just cheerily handed the Death Star plans back to Darth Vader?

Lizbeth smiles sweetly at Guaril and waves the slimy Varisian goodbye as she exits the store and back into the bustle of Absalom's streets.
"Well done to us eh my lovelies? How Ambrus will be pleased!"

Abrus Vlasin's tasks completed, you head back towards the Grand Lodge. On the way a throng of people blocks the street ahead. A performance art group commandeers the street, drawing graffiti to create a jolly hellscape complete with illusory devils comically dancing around in circles. A few citizens avoiding the crowd slip off-street through a nearby alley, the only egress past the gathering. The alley seems deserted, until suddenly, a thick mist blocks the way you entered. In front you, from the shadows, steps a a group of dubious characters; a masked woman bearing the unholy symbol of Norgorber, a beautiful young woman with a crazy look in her eyes, a shady looking man wielding a rapier and dagger and a halfling with magnificent mustache carrying a large axe.
