So you do not have Infusion? She would loan it to you, but you already have barkskin, I think. So only Bear's Endurance. Yours to use if you want it. Xen also has potions of fly and Tongues.
No sorry. Never got round to getting that. Too many good talents! I think it's fine. As you've said, he's got the barkskin already and I want to save the alchemical allocation for now.
GM Rinaldo |
The sloped passageway descends ten feet before opening into a large 35-foot-square chamber. Four decorative clay urns stand beside each entrance along the north wall. To the west, an alabaster throne inlaid with gold, lapis lazuli, and carnelian stones sits upon a raised dais flanked by two bronze braziers. The throne overlooks a miniature model of buildings and structures in the center of the room, portraying the city of Sothis. To the south, two statues with the heads of jackals stand with stone glaives in their hands by a huge stone door engraved with the symbol of an all-seeing eye. Hieroglyphs also cover the entire eastern wall, reaching all the way to the chamber’s 20-foot ceiling. The images depict scenes of everyday life in ancient Osirion.
Herrick and Garmit lead the way in, inspecting everything with care, and notice that the hieroglyphs on the eastern wall depict different ages in the life of a man: a small set depicting his childhood, a much larger and more prominent set depicting his adult years, and a smaller set depicting an elderly man. Each of the sets of images also hides a panel that appears to be able to open. To anyone else's eyes they would have been nearly invisible, but the scout at the monk are no ordinary observers.
Feel free to move about the room. Herrick and Garmit are comfortable that there are no traps anywhere in the room itself or on the doors.
Herrick suggested activating the Heroism effect from the sword; Garmit would have to say he is actually doing so. If you do, keep the duration in mind as you search rooms, etc.
Rhuul Irontoe |
Rhuul(s) follow behind Garmit, trying to peer around the slender swordsman. His flag flaps weakly in the still air. Still, the rune of the Open road speaks to the heart of what it is to be a pathfinder.
Lin Kai |
Kai enters the throne room carefully, keeping an eye out for the doors to the east and south. He is drawn to the model city of Sothis and proceeds over to examine it in detail.
Xichikitte |
Xichi brings up the rear, watching carefully.
Take Ten on Perception if possible. If not, please roll for me as needed.
Garmit |
"There are panels in these images, guys!" Garmit points out the hidden openings in the three heiroglyphs. Moving to the small one of the man in his childhood, he quietly and carefully opens it up.
Take 10 on Stealth for 35
Herrick Whiteraven |
odd, my post last night seems to have been eaten... :( That or it will end up in a different thread because I was not paying attention.
Herrick moves up with Garmit, and covers him while keeping an eye out for the southern door
Removed the greater heroism till Garmit decides to use it. 9 mins is ticking on Prot v Evil on everyone though.
GM Rinaldo |
Garmit approaches the first hidden panel. He very carefully slides it open revealing a twenty foot long hallway with a door at the end. His keen senses notice a faint line along the floor, which he realizes could be where the floor is designed to fall away.
From your current location you can't tell where the trigger mechanism is, but you are aware that there is a false-floor trap.
Lin Kai |
When he sees Garmit hesitate, Kai crosses over beside him and asks, "What is it, Garmit?"
Garmit |
Sorry out of town for work today and got home late this evening.
"There's a long hallway behind here, with a door at the end. Looks like it's some sort of pit trap, though. Strange stuff. Can't say I completely know what it is...I'm going to check out the other two panels."
Garmit does as he says, moving down to check behind the other two panels in order.
Same drill on middle one and bottom one as the first (unless something strange happens in the meantime).
Xichikitte |
Huh. My post got eaten. Reposting from memory.
Xichi uses his scroll of Detect Secret Doors, scanning the entire room and glancing down the secret hallway.
One minute duration should be enough to scan all the walls in the room, and the secret corridor, plus a couple rounds at the end to look more closely at anything found, yes?
Rhuul Irontoe |
Rhuul steps to the side of the doorway... just in case a trap happens to send a lightning bolt down it. Or a flight of arrows or javelins for that matter.
GM Rinaldo |
I'm on my tablet and can't edit the sheet as precisely as usual. Ignore the size difference in the squares in the different map pieces; that's an artifact of importing the images independently.
Garmit checks the other panels and sees that the middle one has a hallway with the same sort of door and pit trap as the first. The third has a similar hallway, but it turns at the end, and no pit trap is apparent in this one.
Xichi uses a scroll and for a time his eyes glow with magic. He scans the room and the visible portions of the hallways, but finds nothing new.
Garmit |
"So, this one looks less nasty. I'm going to duck down here and check it out."
Garmit quietly makes his way down the third corridor and peaks around the next bend.
Take 10 on Stealth for 35. Take 10 on Perception.
GM Rinaldo |
The corridor bends and slopes down slightly, leading into a chamber. From his current vantage, Garmit can't make anything in the chamber out.
Garmit |
Garmit slowly continues down the next bend, keeping his back to the wall and walking on tippy-talons.
Continue the scout down the next hall, stealthy and perceptive as always.
Garmit |
Yeah, I had the same issue at first. Right click on your icon, select 'Order' and then 'Bring to Front'. You might need to undo your move first if you can't see your icon.
Rhuul Irontoe |
Rhuul occupies his time with scanning the room for magical auras.

Xichikitte |
Xichi follows carefully behind Xen.
Lin Kai |
Kai similarly moves up behind Garmit, keeping far away enough not to alert anything to his allies' presence, yet near enough to quickly rush in to aid when necessary.
GM Rinaldo |
If I put my icon on the map it goes underneath.
Oops, my bad. I left your icons on the slide, then deleted the old map and added the new one, which put you lower on the z-axis than the map. Glad Garmit got you sorted!
The sloping hallway opens into a chamber To the west, two lines of upright sarcophagi face one another along the north and south walls. To the east lies a diamondshaped table of black basalt, bearing six ornate masks of gold decorated with semiprecious stones.
The artist drew in the sarcophagi, but not the table for some reason. I have added it. :-) You don't see anything immediate dangerous from where you are, but you can't see anything on the northern wall until you actually enter the room.
I've also corrected the map scale, and adjusted everyone's positions to be one person per square.
Rhuul hangs back and scans the room for magical auras. He sees none, but recognizes that the stone door on the south wall is probably thick enough to prevent his spell from penetrating.
Rhuul Irontoe |
As the rest of the team heads down the side passage Rhuul slowly joins them, keeping a wary eye on the large doors to the south as he goes.
"I'm thinking they may be fake. Not the first time a tomb robber has been fooled by such.." he mutters to himself.
Garmit |
"Six statues! Six masks! I wonder if we get to play dress-ups with these things?" Garmit carefully makes his way into the room, keeping an eye out for trouble or traps, checking out the sarcophagi first and then if they don't spring any surprises heading down to scope out the masks. Looking but not touching for now.
Stealth and Perception on Take 10 duty.
Xichikitte |
Xichi inches forward. watchful.
GM Rinaldo |
Garmit steps into the room, and just makes out the outline of another hidden panel on the eastern end of the northern wall.
Garmit |
Garmit signals for those behind him to follow him to the chamber with the statues and then heads to check out the most recent secret panel.
Stealthily perceive the secret panel and then open said panel.
Lin Kai |
Kai moves along, his longspear held out on guard.
GM Rinaldo |
Xen finds no evidence of magic in the sarcophagus chamber as everyone moves to keep up with Garmit, who clearly finds hidden doors much more interesting than large, obvious ones.
The hidden panel reveals another hallway, which once again twists around a corner.
Revealing just a little at a time to make sure everyone has a chance to speak up, give opinions, and place themselves.
Garmit |
A huge grin on his beak, Garmit turns back to the group. "This is so cool! This might go on like this forever. I'm in heaven right now...but if you guys want to go check that big, boring door back there just let me know. I'm just praying there's another secret panel at the end of this hall and I get to do this all day! Only thing missing is some beasties jumping out of the dark every now again to stab in between sneaking around."
I'd sort of like to see where this corridor ends first, but totally fine with checking out the big door if other people prefer.
Rhuul Irontoe |
The entourage of dwarves hussle into the room, checking it for signs of magic.
Casts detect magic
"Time is not on our side.." he reminds everyone. "Let's see where this one goes. We are here now, and going backward and forward a lot will just let our protections runs out."
Garmit |
"Sure!" Garmit whispers back. "...but 'behind' is a relative term. As soon as we turn around to head back to that other room, this passage is behind us instead." Garmit is clearly struggling hard to even stop to talk for this long, his curiosity clearly intrigued.
Garmit is curious... ;)
Lin Kai |
Oops, Garmit's was replying to my post, but I changed my mind and deleted it. :P Sorry, Garmit!
Kai looks back and forth. The city watch in him hates leaving things un-investigated behind, but his teammates want to press on. And Rhuul does have a good point. "Alright, then, let's keep going."
GM Rinaldo |
This 50-foot-long corridor contains a number of dark alcoves. On the floor between them lie six black-garbed figures, surrounded by scattered weapons and a pool of blood. Garmit's keen eyes notice that one of the figures seems to be breathing.
Xichikitte |
One moment, please, my feathered friend.
Xichi casts Mage Hand and steps past Garmit, remotely poking and prodding the figures, moving clothing aside as possible to see more of them, and finally, lightly slapping the breathing one in an attempt to wake them.
Lin Kai |
Kai moves up to one side of Xichi, his longspear raised, ready to strike it turns out to be a trap.
Herrick Whiteraven |
Moved Herrick to keep Garmit in sight, as stated previously. From his position he has no sight into the long hallway with the blood pool and bodies.
"What did you see?" he asks in hushed tones.
GM Rinaldo |
Mage Hand allows for picking up and moving objects, but not applying force, so no slapping the person, I'm afraid.
Xichi moves the bodies a bit and confirms that all but one are either dead or nearly so. Only the one appears to have survived whatever took place here.
Kai, you didn't actually move your token. The hallway is pretty cramped, so you can't really cover Xichi with your spear unless either Garmor or Herrick backs up to make room.
