Did they shoot the beast as well or just us?
Ace casts defensively as he is severely injured after being shot by what he thought was his allies.
CMW - DC 19: 1d20 + 7 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 8 = 24
CMW: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (2, 1) + 7 = 10
His magic is against him as well, it seems. He will ready an action to move 60' away after someone else draws an attack of opportunity and will then drop to the ground. I can't take one of those hits again...

Sorry this is a bit involved...let me know if any of it is not possible. EDIT-just saw this was std action....skip the diplomacy
call up to the elves "Stop shooting at us, friends! We are here from General Theila Tenasi to rescue you...shoot at the centipede only!"
He will then try to summon a leopard (std action)

Darius Swiftblade |
Darius casts Monstrous Physique I and shifts into a Gargoyle type form.. He then flies 40' up and 20' towards the beast.. "Someone get those stupid elves off our back!"
GM Lithrac |
Fendahl: Sure, there's no reason not to allow a folio reroll. It may not look like the summon is very useful, but it technically happens before Kirrah's action, so it draws the AoO from your AC and allows it to survive!
The shaman summons a leopard that can pounce on the beast, but the colossal beast attacks the cat as it moves to strike, slaying it.
AoO: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 244d6 + 27 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 3) + 27 = 40
As soon as the leopard dies, Ace moves away with all due haste, running from his fans for his life!
Kirrah charges, but inflicts only minor wounds due to the creature's tough chitin.
Darius casts a spell and soars in the air.
Initiative - round 2 - bold may act!
1. Fendahl, Ace, Darius, Osric, Julian, Jarlgur
2. BBJ
3. Elves
Fendahl Silvermane |
Thanks, that was my hope since otherwise Kirrah probably dies from the Aoo.
I am assuming some of Kirrah's Magic bites/claws hit...but the chitin resists much of her damage for some other reason...as opposed to her not even hitting due to heavy armor.

Osric Longstride |
So it is! In that case, it's likely not an evil outsider. So Grim loses 4 on every roll if true. Can I just sub my Nature bonus instead of Planes? Its +15, which would get me a 32 and 3 questions.

Julian Bastille |
Having been hit by a rampaging Centipede and by a volley of arrows from a bunch of stupid elves who cannot recognize friend from foe. Julian's personallity is forced back into the deep recesses of his mind while Maul emerges.
Julian grows about 1 foot taller and 100 lbs heavier has new muscle forms. His jaw elongates and his teeth turn all into canines. He nails grow thick and form a point. He growls at those threatening him.

Someone with a positive diplomacy mod might wanna try to gets the dumb elves off our back this next round.. I dunno if we can handle this thing and multiple arrows a round.
Ace of the Flesh Puppets |
Ace would have if he wasn't staggered by the arrows and the trample, thus would have fallen unconscious from the act of the standard action... :(
Ace enjoys the healing of the warrior priest, but is still severely injured...
GM Lithrac |
Technically, Jarlgur channeled before he stepped to the east, so Fendahl should have been included.
I'm doing initiative by order of posting, Jarlgur. Otherise it's too big a mess to solve.
As Jarlgur emits a wave of positive energy, the juggernaut takes a special interest in him, and calls upon the darker powers to smite the prophet. He lunges and bite Jarlgur with its massive mandibles, crushing the rager's ribs in a sinister crack. Jarlgur's broken body falls on the ground, lifeless.

GM Lithrac |
It isn't half-fiend, nor outsider, nor evil. It's a true neutral vermin. As for size, it's colossal.
The titan juggernaut suffers dire blows from the flying, phasing gargoyle, but its chitin protects him well. He still stands.
Yeah, that thing is a monstrosity... Another of these killer custom monsters, just like the high tier end boss of Fortress of the Nail...
Darius Swiftblade |
I also find it funny that vermin have a 0 Int, for the most part, which i again assume applies since its immune to mind affecting, but has the coherent thought to use said smite ability on someone. my curious nature wonders these things i suppose lol..
Jarlgur Flamnord |
Yeah, Jarlgur is dead. (-22 w/ a Con of 12) Smote by a vermin.... Even knowing what was in store, going in, I neglected to purchase a breath of life scroll. Not that I think it would have helped here. Sorry fellas.
Ace of the Flesh Puppets |
Jarlgur isn't Good? He is true Neutral. The Smite Good would fizzle. You should be at -10/12, I think. (Assumption: The +12 was the Smite Damage.)
Yes! Let's shoot the allies! That makes sense, you elvish idiots! We have been sent by your General to rescue you and you greet us with arrows rather than shoot the beast that was previously terrorizing you? Fantastic plan! Maybe focus on the big guy, so we can have a chance not to die?

Jarlgur is both CG and N on his character sheet, and we cleared that up. True Neutral it is, so the smite fails and Jarlgur is at -10. He still needs to make that Fort save against poison, though, as well as a stabilization check.
Ace's sarcasm doesn't seem to work well with the elven archers, yet one of them stops firing at you.

In an overwhelming esprit de corps, the Pathfinders strike as one to bring down the beast! Lion and wolf tear through the chitinous armor while a beast of a completely different kind rends the juggernaut with formidable might. The vermin cries in agony, swings back and forth before crashing down on the ground, lifeless.
End combat.
Seeing the great beast being brought down with such righteous might, the elves stand down and hail you from the top of their rock. Their leader, an elven woman, addresses you.
"Hail the foolish who venture into Tanglebriar. Who are you, and what are you doing here? You're obviously not a trick from the demons. State your business!"
Jarlgur Flamnord |
Jarlgur sits up, rubbing his head, and looking around. "Ick, that hurt." Digging through his pack, he removes two wands. "I have both a normal healing wand, and a devilish one, though I can not use the latter." He says, glancing at Darius.
CLW and IH. If Darius will use it, Jarlgur will just take six charges off the IH. Anyone else is welcome to use either.
@GM: Does Jarlgur need to keep making Fort Saves vs the Poison? I forgot he had drank the antitoxin, but it wouldn't have helped with the initial roll.

Ace of the Flesh Puppets |
Ace trudges from the brush and wrinkles his nose at the temerity of the Elvish rangers. The foolish? One must wonder if that applies to the speaker as your arrows would barely have scratched the beast. In my line of work, it is usually best for those who have been saved from death to thank their saviors, especially when those saviors were sent by the beautiful General Tenasi.
He pulls an arrow from his shoulder and tosses it on the ground. Perhaps we can call this a misunderstanding, however I don't take kindly to my own shooting me or inflicting other such pain upon my person... Ace looks over at Darius.
Waiting a moment, Ace continues. Since this is a misunderstanding, let me introduce myself. I am Ace of the Flesh Puppets, Chelish diva extraordinaire, head of the most famous of all Chelaxian rock bands. It has been said that my songs make the angels in Heaven and the devils in Hell weep in awe of the chords that strum from my guitar.
Ace flourishes to his compatriots. These are Pathfinders. Jarlgur Flamnord, the holy oracle of Gozreh and barbarian lord from the north. Fendahl Silvermane and his majestic feline companion Kirrah, half-elf archer and shaman of the lions in the plains of Eastern Golarion. Osric Longstride and Grimtooth are the finest of rangers and the stoutest of companions anywhere on this continent. Julian Bastille, a devout fan of the Flesh Puppets due to his Chelaxian heritage and supplier of some of the finest mind-altering and body-shaping effects... Ace looks around and counts on his fingers before counting the bodies. Hmm... Oh and Darius.
Ace bows deeply. Would you care to introduce yourselves?

"I am Darius Swiftblade, Gish Master. We have a deal with your General to bring you back. All are of you present? If so we can get out of here.."
He pulls his own infernal healing wand and takes 3 charges..
GM Lithrac |
Jarlgur: Yes, you'll need to roll these. DC is 24, frequency 1/round for 6 rounds, effect 1d4 Dex damage, cure 2 saves.
"A wonder indeed why General Tenasi chose you. A bard using the power of the... rocks? What a weird choice. But you make a point, apologies are in order." She bows respectfully, unable to hide her tremendous exhaustion. "Sometimes a tired mind plays the best tricks. I am Cecilla, and while I'm by no means a leader for the Uprooters, I'm speaking on behalf of the probable survivors." Her tone is grim when she speaks, and you hear a sudden cry in her voice when she glances at the now-defeated demonic juggernaut. She points at it, and you spot what she caused so much distress: a belt, wrapped around one of the beast's legs. "That belt! It belongs to Lanverel, our commander! Gods, this means..."
The elves take a moment to confer before reporting their thoughts to you. "It is a message, a taunt of sorts. It is typical of Fihralaz, a hezrou demon that only recently carved out a lair for itself nearly a day's journey into Tanglebriar. I assume it's his forces that have been harrassing us, cutting us from our safe hiding places before attacking two days ago. As a result, three of the Uprooters died, and the demons captured Lanverel and four others before we got away. You see, this Fihralaz not only enjoys sending other creatures to do his dirty work, but also delights in sending trophies of his victims back to their loved ones as a calling card. We know how to reach the hezrou's territory, and will draw a map with various landmarks on it. However, even with good directions Tanglebriar is a difficult place to navigate. Will you save the captures Uprooters and Commander Lanverel?"
Ace of the Flesh Puppets |
Ace listens intently to the words of Cecilia. We are few in number. The aid of your bows and the knowledge of the region would be of greater help than a map.
Ace unties the belt from the monster's leg and moves to hand the elf her commander's token. We will continue on with the map, but you and your men's aid would be more appreciated. We have been sent to rescue all Uprooters and I never finish a gig before the crowd cheers for the third time.

"I will join you, Pathfinders, though I am too weak to be of any help in battle. However, my tracking skills and my knowledge of Tanglebriar can mean the difference between life and death. As for my companions, they will withdraw further into Kyonin."
The Uprooters give you some of their supplies to help you in your mission: 6 antitoxins, 3 potions of cure moderate wounds, 2 potions of lesser restoration, and 20 cold iron arrows. They also wish that you use the commander's belt to aid you in your rescue mission. It is a belt of physical perfection +2.
A moment later, the Uprooters wave goodbye and leave you alone with Cecilla, about to enter the dreaded Tanglebriar...
At this point, I'll ask everyone to list their speed, as well as their AC's, please.
Osric Longstride |
Osric smiles grimly.
"Well met Cecilla. We certainly appreciate your company. Though my bardic friend worries, he does perhaps forget that neither Fendahl nor myself took arms in our last fight. "A Hezrou huh? Stinky bastards they are.. How long will it take to reach this creatures lair?"
GM Lithrac |
"It is a message, a taunt of sorts. It is typical of Fihralaz, a hezrou demon that only recently carved out a lair for itself nearly a day's journey into Tanglebriar.
I guess this will answer your question, Darius.
Lowest speed in the group is 30 feet, which means that you'll cover a mile in an 1:20 hour in Tanglebriar's twisted vegetation.
For each hour that you remain in Tanglebriar, you must make a DC 14 Fortitude save as you are exposed to its myriad of poisons and diseases. Immunity from poison or disease grants you a +2 on that save, while immunity to both makes you immune to the ill effects of a failure on these checks. If you fail one of these saves, you take 1d4 Strength damage, which I'll ask you to roll.
Time spent in Tanglebriar: 1:20 hour (1 save)
The trek through Tanglebriar weaves between trees drawn into moaning visages whose cracked bark sweats black sap. Tortured howls punctuate the constant buzzing of bloodred flies, and at times the ground itself seems to spasm as if alive. Approximately a mile from Mount Armiya, a twisting briar patch of arm-thick vines with thorns like armor spikes impedes further travel south, leaving only narrow gaps that a creature might step through.
This dense but potentially navigable briar patch is one of the features marked on the elves’ map, which notes that it is possible to negotiate one’s way through the half mile of thorns to the other side.
Cecilla voices her opinion. "This is Claw Brush, an infamous maze of poisoned thorns. There are several ways of bypassing this obstacle. The first would be to travel around the briars, which is equivalent to 3 miles of travel. It's the longest way, but also the safest. The second is to fly over the briars, provided you have the means of doing it. It's the quickest way, but I personally don't have a way of flying. The last one is to pick our way through the intricate maze of thorns. It's only one and a half mile, but we might get lost in it, though I'll do my best to guide you. We Uprooters typically choose the last solution if we are in a hurry, but otherwise elect to walk around it. What say you?"
