Welcome to my PbP game. Hope you would have a blast!
Before we start, I would to share some of my ground rules. (In spoiler tags to not take up space.)
PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.
2. Please post at least once a day, and once over the weekends. If you would be away, please let me know in advance where possible, and we can work something out. Otherwise, if you go missing, where necessary, I will bot your characters for the sake of the rest of everyone else.
3. If you have any disagreements over some of my GM calls or interpretation of the scenario, please take it to the discussion thread or, even better, pm me. I think it’s better not to deal with rules arguments over the gameplay.
4. If you have played and/or GMed this scenario before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot. And please let me know.
5. I would have thought this would go without mentioning until I encountered such a player, so… It is the responsibility of the player to keep track of the game, including referencing the map on google slides. I understand that there are times where it is inconvenient to do so, etc. In that case, please be as specific as you can as to where you wish your character to move, what actions to take, etc.
Combat
6. Once initiative is determined, for the group of characters who can take actions, I would resolve actions in posting order, NOT initiative order. I used to do the latter but it doesn’t work that well in PbP, so am going with the former instead.
Rolls and Skill Checks
7. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any).
8. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for knowledge checks. As for knowledge checks for monster lore, please state what kind of information you want in order of preference together with your rolls, and I'll reveal accordingly, e.g. DR, resistances, special attacks, etc. You can also choose to let me reveal what I think your character would be most interested in.
9. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.
10. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have roleplayed well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, I would give bonuses, or even waive the DC altogether. :)
Roleplaying Matters
11. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)
12. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page for my vetting. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally, please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), CMB & CMD, all three saves and movement. Feel free to include others.
13. Finally, I do enjoy roleplaying more than rollplaying. Whilst I've accepted that PFS games do skew towards the latter, I would strongly encourage posts to be more than simply dice rolls. :)
Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.
A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. I've ported over the info from the last game. Please edit if there are any updates.
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job rolls (if any), and share whatever other OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character.
We'll get started in a few day's time. Fantastic!

Ah heck, I decided to just put up the opening text at the gameplay. Go ahead and post as much or as little as you wish while I'm away! I'll monitor but posting would be difficult with my ipad. Will catch up when I return.
Eadric Brightcoat

Howdy y'all! I made a few minor tweaks to Eadric to help him have some use outside of combat ;)
Craft (Armour): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Begrilda Hammerhild
|
I'm gonna forgo my regular downtime roll to finalize a report for the Society. I'll go ahead and roll it now to get it out off the way.
Profession (scribe): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Mariana Brightpage
|
Oh, Begrilda, we can take notes together!
I'm plan to get a fancy golden pen to help with my calligraphy.
Kitt Theos
|
spending 3010 gp and 2pp on, Rod of Reach (lesser), Spring loaded wrist sheaths x2, and Wand of CLW.
I'll be putting my wand of mage armor and wand of cure lesser eidolon in the wrist sheaths.

Oh by the way, I'll be GMing a tier 1-2 table for Cosmic Captive starting on 9 Jun. Think Hmm will be announcing soon at Flaxseed, but let me know if you want me to reserve a space for you at my table. Just pm me so it doesn't clog the thread.

Oops, looks like I was too slow. They have opened recruitment and my table is filling up already. Sorry.
Eadric Brightcoat
|
Wow, that was quick :)
Never mind. I'm just glad I got on any table, I completely missed out on Blood under Absalom.
Luurg
|
Thanks for the offer. I'm in a game with my arcanist already. Hope everyone has a good time, I've really enjoyed the two events I've played in so far (the last two).
Bishop 'The Dark Augur'
|
Following the many adventures of not being prepared to his liking Bishop will purchase the following:
wayfinder (2pp)
cold iron dagger (4 gp)
light crossbow (35)
bolts 10 (1 gp)
cold iron bolts 10 (2 gp)
3 vials of alchemist fire (60 gp)
Bishop 'The Dark Augur'
|
Alright so let me start this off.
Bishop's skill bonuses are:
+6 Perception
I can also offer +1 on survival checks due to my wisdom.
I'd say Bishop is likely best suited to aiding whoever we choose as the leader.
With Mariana's knowledge arcana skill of +12 I'd think it's likely best if we go that option. And that is without the +5 bonus that would drive her slightly mad. The madness might help to stave off the bleaching hehe...
Eadric Brightcoat
|
I do like the idea of you puzzling it out, Mariana, for RP reasons as well as the bonus. However, not being able to aid the rolls is a bit worrying, especially considering that it may be the hardest of all the tasks. I feel that Perception is our only other option, but there is only about a 7% (if my quick calculations are correct) chance to even equal Mariana's +12 bonus with her knowledge.
So yea... I'm leaning towards knowledge (arcana), but I'll go with whichever y'all want.
Luurg
|
Heh its too bad I don't have scent yet :( As weak as it would likely be, I think it fits Luurg.
As far as our problem at hand... Of course our chances of reasonable perception checks are pretty good with all the assists and my +6 base. I can also do survival at a +8 if I can use my wayfinder bonus.
The Mariana option may be our best, and if we start having issues she can take the wis damage or we can try a different route.
Begrilda Hammerhild
|
I've got a +6 to Perception, so pretty good chances of aid there, I really like the idea of Mariana puzzling it out, though. Begrilda (or Kitt, I presume) could supply a constant stream of Guidance for each of the checks, so that would make it +13 on her checks. I'm pretty happy with whatever.
GM kuey
|
Looks like Mariana has started her checks. So if you've confirmed to use knowledge(arcana), Mariana, go ahead and make all 20 checks together, in spoiler checks. Then I'll resolve accordingly. (Actually, just 19 more. And don't forget to add the +1 from guidance from your party.) I've got a template in the maps and handouts slides if you wish to use it.
And if you wish to get the +5 bonus, and take the 1d4 wisdom damage, you need to decide before each roll.
Eadric Brightcoat

Eadric has been holding a bullseye lantern since going underground (I thought it was mostly low-light in the labyrinth), would it still be lit?
Eadric Brightcoat
|
Is it possible to try an aid another action with these checks? I'd feel better trying a strength check (+4) if Terra and I were helping each other out :)
GM kuey
|
You may aid but that would be one of the 3 checks, simply because there is only space for 3 people at the door.
GM kuey
|
Kitt, based on my perception of Terra's anatomy, I would rule that she would not be able climb the ladders, in that she does not have the hands evolution which I feel is minimally required to climb a ladder. Please feel free to convince me otherwise though. :)

Ok, that pretty much brings us to the end of the scenario. Will be getting the chronicles up and reporting the game shortly. Once again, thanks for another great run. Sorry if my posting has been more sporadic for this game. Work has more unsettled the last month or two.
Oh, and I did embellish this scenario somewhat because parts of it as written does not translate well to PbP, e.g. the checks to navigate the maze, the water trap room, and I hope my attempt to adapt it worked ok. Also, I like this scenario because of the rich backdrop but as written, none of this would be made known to the players, so I dropped quite a bit of the history along the way. Again, hope it went well. Also, thought I should point that out in case you play this again or DM it in the future. :)
GM kuey
|
Ok, the chronicle sheets are ready. As usual, will also have a link at the top of the page. The games have also been reported.
Eadric Brightcoat
|
Hehe, I often feel like that on the rare occasions I GM: I read through a module with all it's interesting backstory and my players never get to know half of it. :) You did a great job as always!
Thank you Kuey and everybody for another awesome game!
Eadric Brightcoat
|
Yea, a round or two more and it could have been dicey... for most of us anyway, Luurg would probably have a whale of a time :)
@Kuey: I was just filling out the sheets and stuff and wondered if this scenario had one or two success conditions? I get to tick off another box on my faction card if there were two :)
Luurg
|
Thanks kuey! Always a great time.
Luurg really does like his water fun time.
The backstory tidbits are much appreciated. That kind of info really helps make a game great.
Begrilda Hammerhild
|
Thanks for another great game Kuey! And thanks for doing a great job padding the adventure. Made the whole thing feel nice and deep and mysterious, like a proper maze should be!
Quick question - would this scenario satisfy the following Faction Journal Card goal:
Participate in an adventure that directly assists an NPC Pathfinder agent or agent of an allied organization, such as by mounting a rescue, recovering an important object, or defending that group’s resources and reputation.
GM kuey
|
Eadric, which faction card goal is it? Might be easier for me that way.
Yes, Begrilda, I'll count it..
Eadric Brightcoat
|
It's not a full goal yet, just working towards one ;)
Complete at least three consecutive scenarios in which you completed both the primary and secondary success conditions. Sanctioned adventures that do not include secondary success conditions neither interrupt not contribute to this goal.
