Ok thanks Kuey. I moved him over to the bottom of the stairs instead then. Is this something that you need both hands to climb or can I hold my spear in one hand? If not I'll just drop it and do without.

Looking to see how high the weird dangling Elf is, Luurg reconsiders and heads over to the closest stairs after he eats his pineapple snack and starts climbing quickly. Climb 1/2 speed: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 4 = 15 And keeps climbing until he reaches the catwalk where he takes a moment to wipe the pineapple juice from his face. Climb 1/2 speed: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 4 = 14

"Hey dare Elf guy, best you stop whippin dem chains around ok? We's just here for that white mini-tar and maybe someting about a ... oh I forget."

Double move, accelerated climbin. If I can lug my spear I will, otherwise I'm currently without weapon in hand since you can't draw while climbing and it looked like a 30' climb in distance?

Year of Boundless Wonder

It's a ladder so yes you would need both hands. The ladder is 20ft high. You could take a move action to stow the spear (I assume you have some backstrap or something), then a standard action to climb. However, you would only get 15ft high, but you would still have your weapon with you. If you choose to drop it it's fine, too.

Luurg, I don't think you could have moved so far? The ladder is 20 ft high, so would take 40ft of movement, leaving you with 20 ft of movement on the catwalk itself. Have shifted the token.

Alarmed by the closing doors, Bishop and Begrilda rushes through before they slam shut. Bishop races to the other side of the chamber to hopefully get a clear shot at the elf, while Begrilda calls upon her goddess' blessing for the party. Terra dashes to the minotaur but find him unconscious and bounded tight in chains. He is mumbling something about some party, so appears largely unharmed. Seeing that not much else Terra can do without wings, Kitt dismisses her from the material plane. Luurg, in his haste to reach the elven sorcerer, drops his beloved spears and monkeys up the ladders. Mariana, seeking to also get closer, moves towards a ladder itself.

The action, however, is squarely on Eadric who with extraordinary burst of adrenalin, miraculously manages to burst from the entangling chains, and clambers up the ladder.

Abysiel, despite his madness, looks in alarm as two of the party has managed to ascend the to the catwalk. Suddenly, from behind Luurg, a pendulum from the astrolabe swings across the room and smashes into the back of his head, threatening to knock him off

At the same time, Aysiel starts chanting a spell. Wisps of mists start forming around him as he does so and when he finishes his spell, he is completely concealed from all of you by the obscuring mists.

I'll take it that you can't move but don't fall. I mean, come on, someone would really have to be klutz to walk off a catwalk on his own accord. :) Oh, but actually, Eadric needed to make that roll to start walking on the catwalk even before the mist(DC5), so he is still at the top of the ladder. Kitt summons an eagle, but it is disoriented from suddenly appearing in a fog and all its attacks fail to connect with the elven sorcerer. Luurg, perhaps in revenge, has a better aim, and the small dagger he wield plunges deep into the chest of Abysiel, who screams of rage fill the chamber and your minds.

Eadric almost loses his balance as he tries to move along the catwalk, and centres himself to avoid falling over. Instead, he spends some time to refocus his senses as he readies himself to move into the fog. Bishop, frustrated by the fog, stows his crossbow and starts ascending the ladder.

Kitt, the eagle would need to make a fly check next round depending on how it is moving, e.g. hovering, 5-foot "step"

Quote:

Total Concealment

If you have line of effect to a target but not line of sight, he is considered to have total concealment from you. You can’t attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies. A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance

Thus, an attack can target the square that he is in, and hope that it is lucky enough to hit. That would include ranged touch spells like Mariana's acid splash. AOE spells would also work because the entire square is affected. However, spells that have specific target won't work because there is no target visible to target the spell.

Mariana, having a near-perfect mental picture of the location of the hanging elf, lobs a glob of acid accurately where she thinks he is. Her aim proves true, and again Abysiel cries out in pain. Begrilda, unable to see the target, elects to check on the wellbeing of the Minotaur Prince.

Staring at the hulking half-orc directly in front of him through the mist, Abysiel's rising panic seems to exacerbate his insanity. He starts foaming at the mouth, while trying to call upon his arcane powers to strike down Luurg. Unfortunately, he stumbles over the words and the arcane energy fizzles out.

Eadric, yes just one check so you're good.

Begrilda checks on the minotaur. Although he is covered in cuts and bruises, his physical injuries do not look life-threatening and are not the cause of his current state. From his blabbering, some which mirrors the whisperings you have been hearing, it appears that he is under some psychic control by Abysiel.

Kitt's eagle finds it difficult to stay aflight with the enveloping mists and starts to plummet, so Kitt dismisses and summons another in its place. The new one is somewhat more successful and its beak plunges into Abysiel's back, gouging out some flesh. Mariana, following the age-old maxim that if it ain't broke don't fix it, lobs another glob of acid upwards but this time, it splashes harmlessly on the underside of the catwalk. Bishop and Eadric find their footings on the catwalk and start closing onto Abysiel.

Meanwhile, Luurg manages to catch himself from a potentially very nasty fall, falling flat on the catwalk, which shakes the entire structure. He manages to get back up without any incident, (Abysiel is not holding any weapon.) and once again, unerringly plunges his dagger into the chest of the ancient elf.

"YOU SHALL NOT DEFILE YOUR GOD!!!" Abysiel screams as blood bubbles out from his mouth. He tries to raise his hand again but it collapses by his side, just as he stumbles over some arcane words. His head lolls back weakly as his body seems to realise that the wound was fatal.

He looks back at Luurg one last time, and sanity seems to return briefly. He mumbles something so soft that none could hear, but the two words nonetheless echo in your minds, like the whispers that have been plaguing you all this while but this time, with a sense of peace and calm. [b]"Thank you.[/ooc] He then collapses completely lifeless, still held up by the chains like a ragdoll.

As the others mill around, Begrilda sends out a wave or two of healing energy, allowing it to wash over the prince, as well as her allies, but making sure to keep the elf outside of the range.

Year of Boundless Wonder

Luurg, save your wand charges. This is the end of the scenario already.

By the way, Abysiel was CN, not evil. So protection from evil would not have worked. :)

Nuar the Minotaur Prince opens his eyes, and is greeted by the sight of the dwarven priestess looking down on him. He mutters, "A heavenly face..." Whether it was brought on by lingering delirium induced by the labyrinth is not immediately clear. He suddenly realises that he is chained up and struggles ineffectually to free himself. He also starts looking around, and realises the strange room that he is in. "What? Where am I? How did I get here?"

Meanwhile, Eadric and Mariana sets out to examine the room. In the shelves, Mariana finds a series of ancient tomes, most which have rotted or faded beyond repair. From the fragments of words left behind, most seem to be treatises on time manipulation, especially in preserving time. An ominous looking tome makes a vague reference to the void dimension and of a Void Whisperer but nothing more useful is garnered. A more preserved one references extensively an artifact named the Izryen's Hourglass, which dates from before the Starstone, when elves stood as the only civilized humanoids of Golarion. Izryen milled her hourglass from white jade and quartz, and filled it with the magic-steeped sands of the northern Garundi desert. Originally crafted to keep time precisely and aid the wizard’s study of the heavens, near-constant tampering and augmentation eventually forged a sympathetic link between the Hourglass and the flow of ages around it. The sands keep perfect time, and anyone studying the artifact can determine the exact position of any given celestial body at that moment. While in the presence of the Hourglass, mortal beings age at half their natural rate.

Some scattered journals of Abysiel Greensummer remain, charting his return to Golarion together with the rest of the elves more than two thousand years ago. It then details his quest to master time to preserve the lives of his short-lived human friends, and how he made contact with a presence from the void who guided him to construct the labyrinth, fueled by Izryen's Hourglass and its time manipulation properties. The journals end abruptly, however, just as Abysiel was about to activate the device and the labyrinth.

Meanwhile, Eadric finds this very hourglass embedded within the midst of the mechanisms which had surrounded Abysiel. It is still pulsating faintly with greenish light, and Eadric feels ... strange ... in its presence, as it *something* was moving different around and through him.

He also finds two wands among the scattered items left from millennia ago, as well as an alchemist's lab and various masterwork artisan's tools.

wand of magic missile (CL 3rd, 50 charges), and a wand of daze (50 charges).

Luurg, with a gentleness that belies his lumbering bulk, eventually disengages the body of the elf from the inhuman device and brings it down the ladders, laying it on the floor. The dessicated body of the elf feels as light as a feather, and seemed to be solely nourished by the magic of the arcane-mechanical device.

Kitt wipes the sweat off his brow, relieved that all has returned back to somewhat normal. "Is everyone else alright? That was some crazy elf huh." As much as he can, he tries to help out with the healing and the explaining, and eventually summons back his faithful ally Terra!

"Now, how do we get out of here?" He looks worryingly towards the door.

Year of Boundless Wonder

Nuar Spiritskin is grateful for the PCs assistance and is quite confused as to how he came to be in the Tangle. In fact, he has no recollection at all of Grandmaster Torch approaching him to enter this labyrinth. "The last thing I recall is being at this grand party thrown by the Countess Delayla. And hmm... chatting with my good friend Torch..." Beyond that he recalls nothing further. Once he has been healed sufficiently, the Minotaur Prince confidently leads the party out of the maze and back to the surface. With Abysiel's death, the labyrinth has turned dull and static. Together with the minotaur's legendary maze traversing ability, a journey that took you more than a day earlier only takes a couple of hours to return back to Absalom.

On returning to the Grand Lodge, Dreng is there awaiting your return anxiously. He received the artifact with great joy, congratulating the party for its acquisition and for the safe return of the Minotaur Prince. Strangely, Grandmaster Torch is absent but Dreng promises to send word. Before he departs, Niam thanks each of you profusely for his safe return. He promises to spread the good word of your deeds to his extensive contacts in the city, guaranteeing your fame for time to come.
