I'm hoping there is not too much social in this scenario... we look martial very heavy and about as anti social as it is possible to get. max charisma of 12 on a wizard... urgle.
Mavarion |
Don't worry, we'll be fine! Right? Right?
GM Derek W |
Well, there will be a fair amount of investigating, but you'll get to flex some martial muscle as well.
If you wouldn't mind, Please post your PFS numbers and Day Job rolls if you have them. List your faction if it doesn't match the icon by your character's name.
Sorry for the huge wall of text, but there's obviously the big info dump to start things off.

PFS 100387-3 - NB SLOW advancement
Faction: The Exchange
Day Job - Runs a keep *recovers one PP from keep boon* This means at the end of the scenario his fame goes up one, but his prestige two.
Iso Soturi |
What is the population of the city we are visiting? Looking at FJC stuff, it sounds big, so here is hoping it has more than 5000 people.
Iso Soturi |
If Nantambu is >5k then Iso will also buy
Wand of infernal healing 750gp (so long as Mylvwara doesn't object to using them)
and a belt of giant strength +2 (4000gp)
Mylvwara Elberion |
Now that celestial healing is a spell, you can get a version of that wand which is much more PFS-friendly.
Or not, just checked the duration: that is a terrible spell.
Mylvwara Elberion |
Shopping list
headband of vast intelligence
10 scrolls of lesser restoration (demon hunter/paladin caster)
2 potions of lesser restoration
Actually, forget the scrolls: nobody can use them on this trip.
Iso Soturi |
Yowser. I was excited for a moment then. Talk about a complete waste of time for most purposes. At 20th level you are as good as a first level caster of infernal healing.
Mylvwara Elberion |
An arcane caster is much better off summoning a healing outsider.
Which I may have to try out soon... Nope, not possible until Summon Monster IV
Iso Soturi |
Nope, you can do it with SM III, well, kind of. Lanton archons can use aid, which give temporary hp. I've used that for in battle "healing" before.
Van Potter |
Van has a wand of Infernal Healing, can use someone else's if you want to buy it. If you're going to need a lot of healing, please purchase one.
Skug |
Skug will pass out the following items to those able to use them:
scroll of align weapon (5)
scroll of cure critical wounds
scroll of darkness (5)
scroll of invisibility purge (2)
scroll of suppress charms and compulsions (5)
scroll of versatile weapon (2)
wand of infernal healing (36)
Mavarion |
I don't think so, so long as you're not a good cleric or paladin or some such class with such restrictions.
Also, Mavarion has Boots of the Earth from Inner Sea Gods, they give infinite fast healing so long as the user stands still. If we have enough time, he'd probably be willing to pass them around.
Iso Soturi |
Theyare awsome. Very much what Iso needs, full healing between encounters most of the time. He is a bit of a hp sponge, and rests after fights anyway due to rage fatigue.
Skug |
A wand of infernal healing recovers 500 hp for 750 gp, or 1.5 gp/hp. That means you need to get 3,334 hp from the boots of the earth to receive a better return. It takes 18 fame to open up access to them, so the boots could be used in 24 scenarios. For simplicity, let's assume 33 days of combat in 24 scenarios. That requires an average of 100 hp per usage. Unfortunately, most martials won't have 100 hp until around 7th level, so it is rather difficult to get value out of the boots.
Of course, if the character plays modules past 11, gets the boots at a discount through boons, and/or morally refuses infernal healing, the math changes considerably. For characters with a conscience, the tipping point drops down to about 67 hp per usage.
"Skug mad. He think then talk. Iso change words. Skug hurt Iso now."
Iso Soturi |
Iso plays slow, so he would get twice the use! Iso is already level 5, and half way to 6th, so let us assume 6 full levels, at six scenario's per level, that is 36 scenario's worth of healing, plus a little more as he is not actually 6th yet, and they are slowly opening up higher level scenario's as well. So that would be maybe 40 scenarios. Currently he sits on 71hp, but one would hope he doesn't run through them all in an encounter before he uses the boots - although to be fair rage gives extra damage that still needs healing. He'l be likely gaining 11 or 12 hp a level, so let us assume that average of about 110hp.
3334/40=average of 84hp healing per scenario, so over that time he'd need to average being taken down to less than 25% before rage is taken into account. That is probably doable. Just. If there is more than one day on a proportion of scenario's that is just gravy. I may need to change my purchases!
[ooc]Very helpful as a backup healing item post a big fight anyway. Iso could almost drain a wand by himself during a bad scenario even at level 5. Four combats x 81hp (with rage) =324hp 33 charges.
Skug |
I didn't even think of slow progression, that makes a huge difference!
I actually have a core barbarian who would love these boots, if I can find them on a chronicle sheet. She is level four and already takes 95 hp to go unconscious, 107 hp when raging. On top of that, her raging AC is only 6. Between the high hp and low AC, she would definitely get value out of the boots.
Iso Soturi |
How did you get 95hp at level 4 in Core? I though Iso was doing pretty well with 71 at 5th. Also is there a rage power than gives you an extra hp/level while raging?
He doesn't have Toughness, which would be and extra 5
and he doesn't have a 20 Con, which I considered, but would have meant totally dumping int and Cha and probably dropping a point of STR as well.
Slow advancement makes a huge difference to the viabilty of the boots, as you get twice the scenarios. If you use wands that is a big wand drain without corresponding pp or gold to make up for it.
Iso Soturi |
Scarb Sages eh? Of course you lose the safety net of unconsciousness. Apart from the SS FJC, which other boons help enhance your effective Con for not dying?
Skug |
There is another Scarab Sage boon like that in the Destiny of the Sands series (+3). And once she hits 7, I'm going to GM The Waking Rune for a third such boon (+7). I don't remember the math exactly, but I think at level 11 it's going to take something like 260 hp to knock her out. Of course, her raging AC at level 11 will be 7 at best, so she'll need the hp!
Mavarion |
Huh, didn't know about that PFS ruling for the boots. It makes perfect sense though, otherwise they'd be crazily powerful. I don't see it in Additional Resources, but it's probably somewhere else.
There's also the new retail incentive boons, for a nice, albeit temporary, boost. My friend has a 12th-level Ooze-barian, as he calls it. Massive amounts of HP, AC of 6-7, I don't remember, before rage. There are few things more terrifying than an angry un-killable Pastafarian who jumps and forgets to land.
Iso Soturi |
The boots change is in the campaign clarifications document they have started putting out.
While technically PFS only, it also serves as a bit of defacto errata for things that are broken but they are not going to officially change.
GM Derek W |
If I may:
Iso Soturi |
I found it by accident, and well, it was just made for HP sponges like Iso. Even on slow track, it will take almost three levels to get back the PP investment, after that though, I'm net credit.
Van Potter |
As per the PFS FAQ, using Infernal Healing wands doesn't turn you evil: Here is a link to it.
Although many individual PC's do have issues with it from an in character perspective or are paladins, etc.
GM Derek W |
I'm taking a short break from packing and will be traveling all day tomorrow. I will have computer access on my trip, so I should resume posting by Thursday (sometime between large meals).
I will see if I can at least get the map up tonight.
GM Derek W |
Sorry guys, no luck extracting the map image last night. I will try again either late tonight or tomorrow.
