Johann brews up two extracts of shield and one of Expeditious retreat. He gives one shield to each of Gunther and Walter, unless Walter declines it, in which case he gives it to Dimitra.

He'll brew another dex mutagen, and drink it before going to the arena (40 mins duration should be plenty).

For himself, he has a targeted bomb admixture, an extract of cat's grace and an extract of fox's cunning. He also coats his armor with a dose of Alchemical grease in case someone tries to grab him. (Anyone else who wants to take the same precaution, just ask for one.)

They're magic, and have the extraordinary effect of once, just briefly, striking fear into an enemy, softening them up for more strikes or spells. (Especially good if I have cursed them first, and I may follow it with a screaming bolt, too.) I am guessing Helkit, herself, will be too strong for it."

Possibly backtracking a bit, but can/could Walter tell if Helkit, at least, was evil? I'm guessing she'd be high enough level to 'ping' evil if evi;, and it would make a lot of difference to Protection from Evil spells. He could try to discern her alignment at the arena or as she leaves it.

Technic Siege/Full Map

You have about one minute just prior to entering the ring to buff up, so anything with a couple minutes duration just down right before you go in. Map is up. Also, I'd say that detect alignment is fair game. She is evil. Her henchmen are all human so far as you've seen.

The group's match against Helkit headlines a long day of battle. In the late morning, a handful of naked, convicted criminals “fight” a gelatinous cube, warming the crowd for more brawls to come. After herding the skeleton-filled cube offstage, numerous one-on-one matches fill out the schedule as up-and-coming gladiators face off. By the time your match rolls around, the crowd is rabid with excitement; the return of a retired gladiator is a rare treat. As the challengers, you enter first through the western gate. The master of ceremonies roars an introduction for each of you through a bullhorn, announcing each by name and spinning lists of his or her deeds.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Please welcome to the Arena the challengers! VIZARD'S...VICTORS!"

He pauses a moment for the crowd to quiet down.

"All the way from Absalom, these daring heroes vanquished the undead dragon Illvaster and his mighty horde! They slew the glabrezu demon Koth'Vaul! And they recently destroyed a platoon of demons in the Worldwound itself!"

Yes, he's hamming it up!

“Now, Tymons, here’s the match you’ve waited for! It’s been years since she earned her status as one of our finest, but she’s lost none
of her skill or style with an axe. Let her know how glad you are to see her fighting again—you certainly don’t want to be on her bad side! Helkit! Silverbane!”

The eastern gate opens, and Helkit leads a group onto the floor. She wears a patchwork assortment of armor, scuffed and showing signs of many battles. Nevertheless, it is clearly custom-fitted and in excellent repair. She holds a chain, attached to the collar of a pony-sized beast resembling a cross between a wolf and a tiger. Completing her team are a number of men and women clad in oiled armor and tabards of silver and crimson. They come to a halt. Helkit unchains her pet, then brandishes her greataxe aloft to the vocal pleasure of the crowd.

Ok, Johann will have taken his mutagen beforehand, then down a cat's grace and fox ' cunning on the way in. I really suggest walter, Gunther and naurin drink the extracts I gave them.

I forgot to include the bonus from Cat's Grace in my status line, so I would have actually had an Init bonus of +5 and a result of 13. I'll wait to see what Gunther and Dimitra do first, though.

We probably should have discussed tactics ahead of time, but in the minutes beforehand, Naurin could ask if she should cast Protection from Evil on each member of the party, or just the 'frontline'. She has 6 first level spells per day and the castings would last 3 minutes.

Naurin watches the events with the cube and thinks darkly, "Someday, true justice will be brought to this town."

Naurin will have cast, then, PfE on each character. Basically, +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves v. evil.
"Nearly exhausted, but prevention may be worth more, I hope,", she thinks and prays.

Walking into the arena, she casts Bless from her wand, then stashes it in her belt, causing a wand of ill-omen to spring into its place. She does her best to look for more hidden surprises.

Johann's bomb hits another gladiator squarely. The resulting explosion knocks him to the ground, unconscious, but still breathing.

Gunther's arrow is not quite accurate enough to hit anyone.

No other traps seem evident right now.

Gladiator #4 charges right at Johann, swinging his flail!

The other two stand up and toss their javelins at Gunther!

Walter's spear brings the man down as Johann dodges away.

His bomb explodes right on top of Helkit, causing her to wince in pain.

Nauirn recognizes that the creature with Helkit is called a thylacine, and is indeed a strange beast. No more information comes to her mind.

Dimitra readies her spell, and Gunther slashes a deep cut in one of the gladiators!

OK, so really if Walter got his readied attack from before, that and his AOO drop the gladiator that was near Johann. Then Gunther would probably switch targets. Is it ok if I move him?

One of the gladiators moves around, out of the greased area, to attack Gunther!

Ok, back to you! Yes, Helkit and her companion get a +4 bonus when flanking the same foe due to the Pack Tactics ability. And when that axe hits, it will do 3d6+7. Without Power Attack. So don't get hit!

The force of Johann's bomb sends Helkit's eyes rolling into the back of her head. She falls down, though not dead!

Walter's spear slices into the thylacine, wounding it even more!

The gladiators make no sign of surrendering right now!

Going home from work soon. Posting will be limited to one more later tonight, then very little access tomorrow. If you guys finish another baddie or two, their attitude could change real quick!

Those alchemist numbers are pretty amazing! The ACs, too. My poor paladin will be doing a small fraction of that not nearly as often with a worse AC... He's 'sword and board' too, so it's even less damage, but it is classic. Good saves, at least.

Absorbing damage from both Gunther and Walter, Naurin brings Misfortune on Gunther's gladiator opponent and then sends a burst of healing out, excluding the four opponents.
Channel Heal: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7

Absorbed 5 from each Gunther and Walter (was it the first round each was injured?) and then heal up 7 for each (and myself), so 12 total.

Keep in mind that's with 3 self - buff spells, the mutagen, bless, and demitra's performance.
