Pouncing

Rules Questions

Does my enemy have to be in a straight line to pounce? Can I pounce diagonally or mostly straight with one square off to the side?

Pounce is just a charge. If you can do it on a charge you can do it with a pounce. The straight line does not have to bear any relation to the grid.

If you can draw a straight line between your start and end points with crossing difficult terrain or another character you can charge/pounce.

You are not restricted to cardinal directions.

As others have said, it only needs to be a straight line between you and your target, no relationship to the grid system on the map.

Unless you're a Rogue Pirate, then you can pivot off posts and trees and need not worry about straight lines for charges, so long as the proper structures exist in your environment.

There might be other exceptions, as well, but I'm probably just complicating matters at this point.

Dragons style lets you charge through allies.

Grand Lodge

Dragon style also allows you to ignore difficult terrain on a charge.

As we're seemingly listing ways to make charge easier, there's always the Equipment Trick (Boot) feat.

Whenever you use the charge or run action, you can make one 90-degree turn during your movement. You must move at least 10 feet in a straight line after this turn if you are charging.

Hmm. Does it have to be exactly 90 degrees? That'd be kind of weird considering charging doesn't have to follow grid lines. Must I get out a piece of right-angled cardboard or a protractor?
