How do you put your combat stats just below your character name like that?

Silver Crusade

Male Halfling Rogue 1 | AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 10/10 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +4

You place the stats in the "Character/level" block, right next to Aasimar Cleric 1

Hi! I'm here and ready to go!

CotCT | HR | MM | RoA | RotRL1 | SD | SS1 | SS2 | WftC_1 | WftC_2 |

Rilmor can you select a pic for your guy, so I can move it over to Roll20?

Also, everyone please let me know who you are on Roll20 so I can link you to your tokens.

I'm Kirby S on roll20

Checking in, I'm Khelreddin on Roll20. First time I've done this set-up (using Roll20) for a Pbp, but it looks cool. Let me know if I've goofed anything up.

Your PbP approach looks great. One thing I'd add - can we all write in the present tense? It always sounds weird to me to describe a character's current actions by saying "Terrill attacked" rather than "Terrill attacks." This is especially so when you're trying to relate to something that did happen in the past and you've got to get into complicated tense sequences to do it.

Maybe all of us already do this, and that's great. If not, and anyone really has an issue with this, I'll live with it just fine - but the flow of things always seems smoother if we're all describing things using the same verb tense.

[/grammargeekrant]

CotCT | HR | MM | RoA | RotRL1 | SD | SS1 | SS2 | WftC_1 | WftC_2 |

From what I've seen with PbPs is most people seem to speak in present tense for the actions they are taking, just like you would when playing at a table. Only exception is if turn order gets messed up and someone posts their action ahead of someone else.

As for Roll20, I like it a lot and it gives a little more control over who can move what and grid snapping etc. Most PbPs use Google Docs, but then everyone can move everyone and there is no good snap to grid etc. Also, I can keep track of HP and such easily with Roll20 directly on each PC/NPC.

In reguards to posting in present tense as opposed to past, i would feel weird writing like that unless it was also in first person. Not saying i can't, just noting my opposition. The only books i've read recently that were written in present tense were the pathfinder novels by David Gross and he also writes in first person. Though, i could use this as a way to increase my writing variety.

Male Halfling Rogue 1 | AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 10/10 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +4

Alright! it has begun, I'm going to make my first post in present tense just to see how it feels. I'll edit it later if we decide to go back to past.

@Dak - quick question, as I'd like to see if we can approach today's tasks geographically: Where are we meeting with the Venture-Captain?

@Trippen - thanks for writing as you did! It looked awesome to me, hope it was okay with you.

Will put up a proper post later, being summoned to help a kid with math...

Silver Crusade

Male Halfling Rogue 1 | AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 10/10 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +4

its not nearly as weird as i thought it would be, honestly. i guess i'm okay with writing it in first person.

And yes, i was wondering where, when and in what manner we are meeting him. I assumed it was some type of "post training brief" or the beginning of the day thing. Knowing what task is the closest would be logical, but my character doesn't care too much about about organization as much as what he feels should be done first.

Terrill you are at the Pathfinder Society Grand Lodge, located in the Foreign Quarters of Absalom.

Trippen time of day would be early-mid morning. This would have been after your induction into the Society and after the completion of your basic training.

Just FYI to the group, my work schedule is crazy (shift work) so sometimes I can check the forum a million times a day, other times only once or twice on my phone or iPad. So if you don't hear from me for awhile, just press on without me!

Silver Crusade

Male Halfling Rogue 1 | AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 10/10 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +4

Yeah, for the next week i'm working 12s. i have a smart phone and have downtime where i can post a paragraph or so. but from 7am-7pm i'll be working.

On a separate note, what my character is suggesting is after we deliver the medicine we take a few hours to make gather information knowledge checks, We can do this at any time really but it makes the most sense to spend it after we deliver the goods. I'd assume its around mid day by the time we get to the orphanage, spend the afternoon asking around and get to the Chelish para-countess in the evening when she would most likely be the least busy.

Also, it appears the rolls are with me, first a 20 and now a 19.

in before a streak of <5 rolls.

i have nothing else to say to this imp. Its very likely not going to listen to reason. you can make deals with devils... but imps aren't THAT bright and he clearly wants this case. I say just trash him. I would like to get a suprise round sneak attack off if possible, because i probably won't do damage otherwise (not that my character knows that)

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Cleric 3 | AC 17 T 11 FF 17 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +1 W +7 | Init +1

Yeah, if it were a summoned creature, I might have suggested using "Protection from Chaos" and have that person take the box and not attack the imp. I'm not sure I see any other option offhand.

There's a lot of talking going on behind a rampaging imp! :)
I too vote for getting in a surprise round. With his back to us I think we would all get in a surprise round, regardless of stealth, but I could be wrong about that!

The typical solution for this thing is to "scissor" the two boards and bring the object closer (or in this case, away from the whole and on the more solid flooring). It's being held by a the trick that the weight of the box and the bottom plank being "tight" enough to act as a support, while acting as a pivot point for the middle plank.

Of course, that depends on the integrity of the boards and the floorspace around it.

Silver Crusade

Male Halfling Rogue 1 | AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 10/10 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +4

well you can see the boards on the map in roll20, The box is quite clearly larger than the planks and wouldn't fit inbetween the two. The deteriorating planks are about at the 9 and 7 o'clock positions. we could also lower down a hook, lower down a person (Provided there is space on the ceiling) or create a net around the bottom using all the rope that i'm sure everyone has. Or we can (as suggest) use the coffins somehow.

Liberty's Edge

M Half-Elf Inquisitor of Desna 10 | HP 77/77 | AC 34 (37 vs crits) | T 22 | FF 31] | AC 28 | T 16 | FF 25 | CMD 29 | Fort +11 | Ref +7 | Will +12 | Init +7 | Perc +18

@Rilmor - why do you say we don't have the skills to operate the crane? Unless I missed something, I don't see that. If nothing else, we could toss a rope over it and use it to hang Trippen in the air next to the crate, to see if he can open it. Or do as Trippen suggested and see if we can get ropes around the crate, though that could be trickier.

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Cleric 3 | AC 17 T 11 FF 17 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +1 W +7 | Init +1

I assumed because someone asked if we have Knowledge Engineering and I didn't see anyone respond.

GM Dak, are there controls anywhere or is this some kind of manual crane system? Rilmor can look around the room Taking 10 on Perception to at least see what's connected to it (even if he can't figure out how it works).

CotCT | HR | MM | RoA | RotRL1 | SD | SS1 | SS2 | WftC_1 | WftC_2 |

Manual crane system, chains and pulleys.

Silver Crusade

Male Halfling Rogue 1 | AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 10/10 | F +3 R +5 W +1 | Init +4

Well the knowledge engineering was for the planks, should have been knowledge architecture/craft architecture. I'll just see if i can jimmy up the crane. no biggie. i say we don't overthink this. we got a boat underneath, a crane, heck if anyone has swim ranks they could take a crowbar to the bottom of the sea bed and pry it open, as long as its not priceless artwork i think it will be okay wet.

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Cleric 3 | AC 17 T 11 FF 17 | HP 15/15 | F +4 R +1 W +7 | Init +1

That's fine. I misunderstood what you meant when you were talking earlier about Knowledge: Engineering. And I think we've got about as solid a plan as possible.

FYI, from the post covering the conversation for this mission:

"There’s a big crate marked with three crows arranged in a triangle. Inside that crate is a smaller container with a few books and papers in it."

Books and papers aren't going to do well wet.

Liberty's Edge

M Half-Elf Inquisitor of Desna 10 | HP 77/77 | AC 34 (37 vs crits) | T 22 | FF 31] | AC 28 | T 16 | FF 25 | CMD 29 | Fort +11 | Ref +7 | Will +12 | Init +7 | Perc +18

Good point about the books and papers, thank you for checking that.

I think we let Trippen check out the crane, maybe roll to Aid him in any Knowledge check necessary, and work out a way to use the crane to get him in position to open the box. And perhaps throw in Polami and Omar's back-up plans with the nets and boat.

At the rate we're going, there probably won't be any problems, but I thought I would point out this.

They announced last night that they're going to be discontinuing the First Steps, so we'll need to make sure we're done by 8/14 in order to get PFS credit.

That is good news - I get called for jury duty almost every year, regardless of where I live - East Coast, West Coast, whatever. Called more than anyone I know, and can't figure it out. So I'm glad you got to fulfill your obligation and be cleared of it, at least until next year.
