Ilya sees an opening in the creature's defenses, but knows she'll be engulfed if she strikes. She moves to the nearest empty space to avoid the attack, preferably so she's still flanking with Vayu, then tries to hurt the mud ball again with an acidic claw.
Not sure how the mud ball moves as it tries to engulf me, so not sure where to move to as I avoid being engulfed.

The only things that is left of Vayu, Ketill and Redke are traces of bubbles. Ilya manages to evade the mudlord, but her punch misses.

Sensing it'll take her comrades some more time to reach the enemy, and realizing her attempts to hurt it aren't very fruitful, Ilya switches to a different tactic. She swaps the tiger style with the crane style and focuses on total defense.
Total defense for AC 34!
+2 shield bonus for starting and ending my turn in the same square. My total defense gives a +7 dodge bonus: +6 instead of +4, because I have at least 3 ranks in acrobatics. +1 to total defense from Crane style.

Yes, staying up is fine.
Vayu also manages to close is, and stabs with his rapier, though the damage seems minimal (DR). Zen'yr hits with her shot as well, and does manage to hurt the muddy critter.

Zen'yr manages to hit the blob of mud, but it seems hard to cause real damage with an arrow like that - only the enchantment seems to cause harm to the creature. Ketill's bomb fares bit better. Even though the shot is off-target, it still explodes on the creature, though it splashes on Ilya as well.

Kellan hits the elemental with a stab imbued by a magical blast of cold. The stab does little to hurt if, but the cold just seems to wreak havoc with it, freezing the mud into clumps of hard earth. With little effort, the creature is shattered.

Ilya takes a bit of a burn, but avoids some of the damage from Ketill's bomb by quickly submerging her head in the water. While briefly underwater Ilya sees Vayu sink to the room's bottom.

Ilya quickly swims to Vayu and grabs his arm.
Swim up: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
She then swims back up and resurfaces with Vayu. "Someone heal him while I hold him up."

Now that the distraction and disturbance of the mudlord is gone, it becomes much easier to manoeuvre through through the waters. Ilya rescues Vayu from a watery grave, and sees two doors below the waterline, one on each side of the room.

There's water breathing, as a potion or (for those with waterproof scroll cases) scroll form. Elixir of swimming helps as well.
