Dorn's face is a picture of shock as it is very clearly not a dwarf who comes up on him and starts to attack him.

"...hey.... HEY. That's not-- that's not fair!"

He helps put the blobular brute down, then scrutinizes the dwarves. "You look like you've passed through a dragon. Poor bastards. Eh, we'll see you right. Look, are those sisters upstairs in on things?"

Dorn draws a wand from his pack. "Oi, Tyraneus, mind tapping me with this? Also, our new friends if they need it."

(Assuming Tyraneus uses Dorn's wand of CLW on Dorn):

At the mention of Torag Garret starts rummaging in his belt pouch. After a few seconds he comes up with the holy symbol he found earlier and presents it to the dwarf. "I believe this is yours."

Garret then turns to his companions "Shall we quickly get our belongings and move to the boat so the envoys can continue their journey?"

Radnor shakes his head, "I can't let people get away with behaviour like this. This kind of evil is like a festering boil - it has to be lanced," he pats the haft of his father's lance purposefully.

"Besides it seems likely anyone here is already alerted meaning we would likely have to deal with them, I'd rather do it on our terms than theres, and who knows if they are holding any more unfortunates."

Dorn looks sidelong at Radnor.

"...well.... if we gotta deal with, uh, boils an' all... mayhap our quiet-toed little friend," he pats Garret on the bank, "will take a peek upstairs an' make sure the ladies ain't waitin' with crossbows for us to come out th' door."

Alternately, he can just charge out. He likes that plan too.

Garret grumbles a bit "Sure let the halfling become a pincushion, ah all right, I will do it."

Garret peeks quietly through the trapdoor, at the first sign of danger he will report back to the group.

Garret takes a peek up through the hatch, but sees no sight of the old ladies. Moving somewhat further, out of the bathroom and into the hallway, he sees no sign of any of the Grymble sisters.

Entering the main inn room:

The door to the west, out of the inn, has been barricaded by wagon, and the windows on the western side are too small to crawl through. The only way out of the inn is through the courtyard - which isn't visible from here.

Garret quickly returns

"The main inn door has been barricaded by a wagon, the only way out is through the courtyard. I did not take a peek there, I figure they are waiting for us out there. Shall we move to the main inn room and try to surprise them?"

Garret readies his kama. Although he is quite capable of attacking with hands, knees, elbows and feet, the cold touch of steel is reassuring.

Radnor scowls, "We should head back down, there might be an exit down there, something we can use, or even more prisoners. And I don't want to leave any threats at our back. If they are waiting for us let them wait."

So saying he heads back down and moves to the door near the one he broke.

The door opens to reveal a cluttered room. There's some pieces of broken furniture and some soiled clothing, dwarven-size. A corridor leads to the west, and a ladder ascends to a trapdoor above.

Radnor beckons the others forward, and with Nuzzle taking the lead some ten feet ahead of him he follows the corridor to the west lance at the ready.

The corridor ends in a room stacked with furniture, as well as a few casks.

In the prison corridor, Garret spot a discoloured stone. Behind it, he finds a box containing nail clipping and hair samples.

"Let's check out that trapdoor, do you think you can sneak up again and check things out Garret?" Radnor asks, beginning a detailed examination of the room with Nuzzle, half in the hope that if there is an evil cleric up there she will waste a few spells waiting for them.

"Oooh-err, waitin' in th' courtyard are they," Dorn says with his big smile starting again. It fades slightly at Radnor's suggestion they go back through the dungeon, but he trots along amiably. There's fightin' soon, as he reckons it.

He sidelong glances at Garret. He'd been the one to suggest Garret scout before, but a trapdoor opening in a courtyard may be hard to avoid being spotted.

Garret should recall seeing a frothing, stamping mare up in the stables.

Remembering the layout of the building, the trapdoor does indeed come up in the stables, more or less where Garret remember the mare to be.

"Guys, look what I found. It is a bit gross, bit it seems like someone was collecting hair and nail clippings."

When they approach the trapdoor Garret suddenly remembers the mare
"I think that I know what is beyond that trap door, when I looked in the stables I saw a restless horse. I did not want to approach it to closely as I was afraid it would alert anyone on the lookout. It wouldn't surprise me if this trapdoor opened right underneath the horse."

"Hmmm, I'd not want to hurt the horse and it would seem impossible to get past it silently. I would say our best bet is to smash our way out maybe batter through the wall between a couple of windows? It would not be stealthy, and I'm really hoping someone has a better idea?"

"It wouldn't surprise me if they already know. I say we go back to the other trapdoor and try to burst out of the inn through the main room and court yard. That way we will at least avoid the angry horse."

"It sounds like we do exactly what they expect us to do and walk right into their ambush to me," Radnor says looking apologetic, "they've narrowed it down to one exit, so that's where they will be waiting for us right? How about this, we go around back open a window, I dismiss Nuzzle and summon him on the other side of the window. Nuzzle can then sneak round and tell us what is waiting for us. He is pretty sneaky. If he is seen he can just attack while we force our way out, at least offering us a distraction."

If there are no objections to this Radnor dismisses Nuzzle, heads over to the western side of the Inn and opens or smashes one of the narrow windows, he then summons Nuzzle some twenty five feet away outside. The eidolon scans his surroundings and then begins stealthily creeping around to get a look at what awaits in the courtyard.

Radnor moves to a position out of sight of the courtyard where he can quickly rush to aid the eidolon should things go badly.

"Sneaky," Dorn says to Radnor's plan. "I like it! What about shootin' out th' windows at 'em too-- they think we've got us trapped, but I reckon they've given us a nice fortification..."

Are there any windows facing the courtyard? If not, then ignore Dorn's words about shooting through non-existent windows, heh.

The main inn room has two windows flanking the oaken entrance door. They are very small through - not even a halfling could crawl through - but an arrow should work, provided you can see the target.

Outside the inn the eidolon sees a wagon blocking the west exit. Walking around, the main gate (E1) is barred from the inside, but the back door (E13) is unlocked.

Dorn grins as he notices the window gaps, and digs out his sling.

"Hey, Radnor... can your big blue fluffy horse dragon thing move that wagon? That'd be a laugh, eh-- they think we're barricaded in here, we come around on their arses from behind!"

Meanwhile, he presses one eye to the windows by the door, to see if he can see anyone in the courtyard waiting to ambush them.

Radnor smiles, "Maybe, he can give it a try!" Radnore replies, and when Nuzzle returns he asks the eidolon to try mioving the wagon.

Nuzzle will take 20 for a 22 strength to move the wagon if he has time.

In the courtyard, Dorn sees a person, dressed in a cape and wearing an iron mask, leaning against the well in the middle, waiting.

Nuzzle manages to roll away the cart with ease, opening up the western exit.

...except that would mean he doesn't get to bash in anybody's skull.

"...cept we gotta, y'know, lance boils an' all that..." he quickly amends before anyone takes his first suggestion seriously. "C'mere. I got some fella with a funny mask on his face. Anyone know what he might be, eh?" Dorn asks, pointing out the window to the 'fella'.

Though some sounds can be heard when the cart moves of the west side, the 'fella' in the courtyard does not seem to hear it, or move in any particular direction.

Nice job on the cart situation, I like how you handled that. Note that the delegation (on the Abacus) actually asked you to refrain from violence of Razmiri soil. You can give 'em the laugh and sneak out, but I can't deny you a good spite-fight :-)

Radnor grins as they are able to escape clapping Nuzzle on the shoulder fondly, "Good job Nuzz! Now is suggest we deal with these villains, and burn this horrible place to the ground so it can never be used again for torture and infamy. Who is with me?"

Few questions:

The docks were about 200 yards from the inn, as I recall. Can we still see our boat? Is the boat still there? It doesn't seem like a great idea to kill some people deep in Razmir if we have no escape route... and I somehow doubt our presumed enemies would just leave our boat alone while trying to barricade or trap us.

Also, do we have any idea what those amorphous blobs were? The ladies of the inn just keep monsters in their basement, apparently? It seems like there's some more here we should maybe know about...

Aside from that, while I OOCly favor getting our dwarves to safety first, ICly, Dorn is a violent dwarf with brain trauma, so... saner heads may want to suggest prudence to him. If this is not a saner-heads kind of party, never mind then. :P

Inside the sisters' rooms, Nuzzle finds a small shrine to the living god of Razmir, as well as a letter with an unbroken seal.

Reading the letter:

The letter is from Holy Adenhile, commending the sisters for their 'cooperation' in support of the 'sacred cause'.

Rakuska, meanwhile, grumbles at the suggestion of Radnor to set fire to the inn that would surely draw attention from miles away, and it would create a lot of difficulty escaping. I would love to see this holy Adenhile punished, but we have a far greater priority in getting to safety.Let alone the implication for international politics such an incident would have.

"I still think we should pay attention to our mission and get the envoys to Mendev. Even if we take the envoys to the boat first it does not mean that they are safe. There are still a lot of miles between this place and Mendev and these priestly barges are also operating on the river."

Garret looks at the envoys for support

"Now I love a good scrap as much as anything, and the letter convinced me of the guilt of the sisters. It still is not our mission to go about and put down punishment. I suggest we take the letter and tell everything to the authorities in Mendev and our superiors in the Society, they can then decide on a course of action."

Sorry guys, it is very much against Garret's nature to just go in and put down the law himself if he is not authorized to do so.

The mooring location of the Abacus is not directly visible from outside: it is somewhat dark and there are some trees between the inn and the mooring location. On the other hand, there is no direct reason to assume it isn't there.

Garret straightens and looks defiantly up at Dorn and Radnor (as good as that goes)

"I will escort the envoys to the boat then and keep them safe, as we are supposed to do. I will wait for you there, but if you are not back an hour before daybreak we will cast off. Good luck, I really hope to see you all back on board safe and sound."

Garret turns to the envoys "This way please" as he leads the way to the boat, through the previously barricaded doors. Over his shoulder he adds to Tyraneus "Are you coming with us or are you staying?"
