Asterion Stargard |
seems par for the course you've ony missed with 1 attack so far i think
Asterion will attempt to escape the grapple
Escape: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 and that's f#~%ing typical.. this rng is f#!+ing s~$@
Nevisial |
Since she's blocked from the side tunnel with the amoeba in it, Nevisial moves out into the main tunnel and keeps alert for any other nasties coming along.
Asterion Stargard |
"Many thanks Brayden.. that thing was exceptionally sticky and acidic to boot, I think my buttons are melting... cough.."
Asterion does his best to get goo off himself
Asterion Stargard |
Asterion takes out his cure light wounds wand and uses it on himself... several times...
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos |
Not the easiest day! Thank you all for every good blow and every attempt. At least this was fun. Never been inside the jelly. I'm all covered in the remains of zombies and this liquid thing. I think I'm beautiful.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Wow! Well again to feel fresh. Someone needs last charge?
Brayden Foxley |
Brayden dusts his hands off. "I think we could all use a bath now, yes? Perhaps not in Uori's divine waters, though," Brayden jokes, watching Asterion wipe the nasty globs off of himself.
Brayden stretches his arms out and runs a hand through his white-golden hair. He stares into the distance for a moment. With a very low voice, he mumbles "Janira, Janira... Perhaps I should never have let you out of my sight..." He thinks back to his schoolboy crush on her, then quickly remembers how they had left her in danger. His face turns serious as he turns to the party. "If we're prepared, we should really get going."
If everyone is healed, that is.
I somehow feel as if a minotaur is in our future...
Chyrone |
Asterion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Brayden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Maladash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Mercutio: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Nevisial: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Janira: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Minotaur: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Mercutio's at 8/12, Nevisial's 10/11. Aside from that everyone's healthy.
After your encounter with the disgusting, you pack and head south, by either the perception or the flip of a coin.
This takes about 10 minutes.
The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
As you are about to emerge from the cave, you see Janira and the minotaur in combat. Janira looks badly wounded and tired, looking at her stance.
The moon dimly, but clearly enough, illuminates the clearing the spectacle unfolds at.
Regarding the terrain.
The thicker green area is covered in light undergrowth and is difficult terrain. It thus costs 2x movement for a square, it provides 20% miss chance, however.
The stream is about 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep in this area. It moves at 30 feet speed, as such is considered rough water, requiring a DC 15 swim check to move through.
The log to the left is slippery, requiring a DC 7 acrobatics to cross at 1/2 speed. Should you fail that, you fall into the stream, unless you make a DC 13 Reflex save, at which you drop prone on the log.
-------------------------------
The final exam, round 1
Janira 5ft steps back, whirling her whip at the minotaur's axe.
Whip, disarm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5, but her wounds prevent her from a steady aim.
Maladash & Mercutio
--------------
Minotaur
--------------
Nevisial, Asterion & Brayden
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos |
Dun jaj! Vaj Hegh maH! El jIH legh ABYSS lojmIt! - Maladash yells, and breaks with a roar to the Minotaur. He runs at a maximum available speed, caring nothing for his defense.
Run, half-orc, run!
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Ref: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
My actions ended, or can I even get up?
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
"HA! Forward, my friends! Tonight, it appears, the students must become teachers!"
He, too breaks into as fast a run as he is capable.
Chyrone |
The final exam, round 1
Janira 5ft steps back, whirling her whip at the minotaur's axe.
Sadly her wounds prevent her from a steady aim.
Maladash & Mercutio both haste themselves towards the other side of the stream.
Maladash slips and drops face flat onto the wet log. Can stand up without risk next round.
--------------
The Minotaur steps 5 feet closer, towering above Janira, and attacks with axe and horns.
Axe: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20Dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 5) + 4 = 14
Axe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16Dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
Gore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
His first swing drops her to the ground, heavily bleeding, but the foul beast is not content and hacks into her again in sadistic assurance, before goring into her on top of it.
I'm sorry Brayden. I had something in mind if she'd survive.
--------------
Nevisial and Asterion move closer, Asterion casting divine fervor on himself.
Brayden
Brayden Foxley |
"Janira... NOOOO!" Brayden shouts in anger as he, too, runs towards the minotaur.
Stopping near the log to catch his breath, Brayden calls out. "Great Iomedae, grant me the strength to vanquish this foul creature!" Smite Evil (Minotaur) as swift action
Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.
In addition, while smite evil is in effect, the paladin gains a deflection bonus equal to her Charisma modifier (if any) to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If the paladin targets a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect.
The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.
That's too bad. This is going to bear heavily on Brayden. At least it'll be nothing but anger, for now.
Nevisial |
Not sure if I can cross the log at half speed as part of a double move. If not I'll cross the log next round. Poor Janira :(
Nevisial runs to the log and scrambles across the log past Maladash. After making the far bank she waits for the others to come across. She's seen what chances a lone opponent has against the raging beast!
acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Asterion Stargard |
Asterion will move up to the river and take a running jump to leap to the other side
jump: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
He jumps so high he throws in a somersault so as to slow his arc
divine favour give +2 to hit and dmg due to trait
Chyrone |
@ Brayden: Smite it for all you are, big guy!
@ Nevisial: Yes, i agree. Yes, you can 2x move at half speed.
On the other table, she's taken to the negatives, but is just bleeding out. The three times i've played the mission, she hadn't died, just passed out.
Brayden lets out a yell of grief and anger, and asks Iomedae for divine smiting power.
----------------------
The final exam, round 1
The minotaur's attention has been drawn by the newcomers, especially the white mained man with the vocals of a claxon.
Nevisial's first to cross....and first to be attacked.
It moves closer, swinging its axe at her.
Axe: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11Dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 = 9
----------------------
Maladash & Mercutio
Nevisial, Asterion (will jump across) & Brayden
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
Mercutio is a tad preoccupied with the treacherous log to be hit by the tragedy just yet.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
Reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 20
The encumbrance of his armor betrays what could otherwise have been a graceful few steps; like a champ, however, he makes those scales and the pointed bottom of his shield redeem themselves by digging him into the wood as he falls to his knees.
"Hmm, at least these fungal growths help to soften the landi- oh, pardon me, Maladash."
Chyrone |
Oky, you might like Maladash for his character, though you can't occupy the same square, so you'll be prone on the 1st square of the log.
The final exam, round 2
The minotaur's attention has been drawn by the newcomers, especially the white mained man with the vocals of a claxon.
Nevisial's first to cross....and first to be attacked.
It moves closer, swinging its axe at her, and it misses.
----------------------
Mercutio dares to cross the log, but slips on the slippery surface.
Maladash
Nevisial, Asterion (will jump across) & Brayden
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Here was a really big text about furious half-orc. But two freaking purple goblins and a strange iron box swallowed him. Second time no strength to write ((
If I can charge, than:
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
If I can't, than Maladash will stand right in front of monster and spitting and showing obscene gestures to require to beat him.
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Here was a really big text about furious half-orc. But two freaking purple goblins and a strange iron box swallowed him. Second time no strength to write ((
And I really tried many times to send even this... bad day )
So
If I can charge, than:
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
If I can't, than Maladash will stand right in front of monster and spitting and showing obscene gestures to require to beat him.
Nevisial |
With the minotaur occupied by Maladash for a moment, Nevisial darts up and lunges at him with her rapier.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Chyrone |
Sorry, you can't charge on the slippery rock.
Aoo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 82d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10
The minotaur's aim is way off, for some reason. Maybe Maladash is quite an intimidating sight?
He hits the minotaur's leg for 3, followed up by Nevisial dealing 8 dmg.
Brayden
1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 - 4 = 0
1d20 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 5 = 5
Janira's not quite dead, her chest faintly rises and lowers.
Divine intervention, something went wrong with the minotaur's attacks. There was a tiny mishap when rolling for attacks.
She's at -5 and bleeding out.
Brayden Foxley |
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (7) - 3 = 4
Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Brayden does his best to get across the slippery log, toppling from side to side as he makes his way across. Burdened by his heavy armor and weapons, he falls into the stream with a loud splash.
Chyrone |
You can make an immediate swim check, DC 15 to prevent being dragged away 5ft.
Brayden's luck on traversing the wet log is not good today, as a splash ensues.
---------------------
Final exam, round 3
The minotaur, under attack, swings his axe at Maladash & Nevisial.
Vs Maladash: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18Dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 6) + 4 = 14
Vs Nevisial: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21Dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 = 13
Gore vs 1 Maladash 2 Nevisial: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Gore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Yikes....
With its axe, it takes both combatants down, and jams its horns into Maladash's unconscious body.
Con roll time guys.
-----------------------
Maladash Con roll please. d20+con -# of negative hp.
Mercutio
Nevisial, Asterion & Brayden
Asterion Stargard |
move done in advance
The minotaur might understand and finish her off.. I'll cut him off first then tell.. and after that round moot
"She's still alive Brayden.. get over here now!!!"
Asterion then casts shield of faith and moves around to the minotaurs other side AC21 and +2cmd
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4 FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU....
Reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 2 ...UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
Swim, Bloodrage: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18 -_-
"NOOO! Not now! Not yet! Not...like...THIS!"
Mercutio's attempt to stand is ruined comically as he topples like a wine bottle set too close to the edge of a shelf, and falls in the river with a loud splash, before he wrenches his way to the other bank with a sudden defiant burst of energy.
If I'm still able to do so this round (I'm not sure if I spent my standard action after all that), I'll toss a javelin.
javelin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Chyrone |
Running water won't harm you? You're half vampire..... ;)
Plus you'll be keeping the javelin on you.
Maladash just needs to roll for con. If he fails he'll bleed 1 at the start of his next turn, so moving along.
Mercutio makes quite a display by falling into the stream, yet his anger gives him strength to swim across.
Like this guy
Nevisial is experiencing some near death dreams...while Asterion gives a big revelation to Brayden.
Being flushed 5 ft to the east, it's Brayden's turn
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
Running water won't harm you? You're half vampire..... ;)
The irony had occurred to me.
That would be a cool racial trait/feat/alternate features thing for Dhampirs, though - we already get some quirky weakness, it would be cool if you could take on additional vampiric weaknesses to go with additional vamp-powers...the Chocula Bloodline, for example: Tooth decay means that you lose any bite attacks you may have and can never gain bite attacks otherwise, but you gain Part of a Complete Breakfast as a bonus feat!
Brayden Foxley |
Is it possible to pull me out?
Swim: 1d20 ⇒ 7
"This is infuriating!" Brayden's anger is boiling over as he sees his friends falling over, one by one. Neck-deep in water, he flares his arms around recklessly in an attempt to swim to no avail, as he is pulled even further downstream.
Chyrone |
Stabilize Janira?: 1d20 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 1 - 5 = 4
The final exam, round 4
The minotaur steps 5ft NW, within reach of 2 new targets.
With a loud roar, it starts swinging its axe again.
Axe vs Asterion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 272d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6) + 4 = 16
Crit?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12Extra ouch: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10
Axe vs Mercutio: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 172d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5) + 4 = 15
Gore vs Asterion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The beast swings its axe in a brutal way, gravely hurting Asterion.
Its following backswing hits Mercutio, upon which the dhampir passes out.
The horns then make a turn for Asterion, hitting him into unconsciousness as well.
:/
Everyone but Brayden, con roll please.
Brayden
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
*PicardRikerDataWorf quadrafacepalm*
If it wasn't for my Bloodrage AC penalty (which I only used a round of to get a Swim boost I didn't even need), he wouldn't have hit me.
Is there any chance I misunderstood how Rage rounds work, and I might no longer have had that penalty if I weren't going to continue it this round...or that maybe, just maybe the DM decided I hadn't Bloodraged this round past round, since it wouldn't have made a difference this time?
Brayden Foxley |
Swim: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Again, Brayden embarrassingly splashes along the stream bed attempting to somehow make his way across. Unfortunately, he's only pushed along further in the wrong direction.
This... Is bad. I'm going to hope DM sides with Mercutio's request.
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos |
Stabilize: 1d20 + 2 - 8 ⇒ (14) + 2 - 8 = 8
The body of Malagash weakens. It feels like his soul starts to go down, somewhere beyond the world. In his ears sounds like beautiful music. He already feels the flames of the Abyss, which still seems to him so desirable and affectionate...
Chyrone |
@ Asterion: don't blame me...blame the dice bot.
I got jumped by a worg, almost eviscerated by a lumber cutting machine and several other KO. GM rolled me a nat 1 vs paralysis facing 3 really scary undead.
I doubt you have preferred the crit confirm to have been the last roll? :)
@ Mercutio: To use bloodrage was entirely up to you.
It would have helped to say you dropped rage after when you swam across.
You'd be fatigued and take a -2 to str and dex for 2 rounds, including current, which is enough to not get hit just now.
Brayden splashes around, and Asterion stabilizes.
Mercutio is able do dodge the blow by the skin of his teeth.
Mercutio

I didn't know I could do that, but I can honestly say I would have if I did, since I was antsy at the time about the consequences of the AC penalty.
DM's right, Asterion - you can't blame him for the dice...
Mercutio looks up at the Minotaur defiantly...as a lurid fog begins rising from the ground....
Svetocher power, m%#!+!!$&+*$! Rather than take any chances, I will then simply 5-foot step back and fade into the mists....
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos |
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
Crap, I forgot spell-like abilities provoked.
concentration: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 S+*&shitshitshitshit...!
Brayden Foxley |
Mercutio Menschjaeger |
Riiight, I forgot about that. Okay, Tier 2, that's the other problem....
Chyrone |
The minotaur snorts at the sudden spellcasting, but can't act due to Mercutio's defensive casting. Unfortunately the sight of his team mates falling, causes his concentration to shake, making the spell fizzle.
He wisely steps into the undergrowth, gaining some cover.
20%
---------------------
Stabilize Janira?: 1d20 + 1 - 6 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 6 = -1
The final exam, round 5
*Snort...MOOOO*
The bullman steps 5ft to the edge of the undergrowth.
Axe: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 272d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9Hit %: 1d100 ⇒ 44
Crit?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 202d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
Despite the growth giving Mercutio some cover, the large bullman lands a hit, causing Mercutio to fall unconscious.
Asterion had stabilized. -7/17
Maladash bleeds 1. At -9/11
Nevisial needs to make last round's con roll. -3/11
Brayden
What will it be, big guy.

CON: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 4 = 1
I knew I'd fail this roll before I rolled it. This is seriously the weirdest dice thing I've ever seen. This is my 5th time playing this scenario if I remember correctly. I've played it at tier 2 with a 1st level character once before. It's more difficult yes, but not enough to make that much difference in the the face of universally hot DM dice and cold party dice. As far as decisions and consequences go, I think the dice have trivialized any decisions we've made. In game decisions only matter if you can act on them successfully or you choose very badly. We can't do the things we decide to do. The tier decision only matters if the party doesn't have the strength to succeed, more or less on average for some reason. That's not the case here. I don't think we would have succeeded at tier 1. Honestly I stopped caring what happens some time back because it wasn't worth the investment.
