Oggil Redhand |
Oggil will carefully work his way around the room.
"Likely as not these things will jump up and attack us." he frowns.
"While Thrune may have made devil-pacts I doubt these folk were angels themselves."
Slowly he works over towards the throne which he examines in detail.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Ledt |
Ledt cast dacing lights and follows the group into the underground. Observing and taking precise notes of the engravings the halfling cannot avoid covering his nostrils at the horrible stench.
"Totally agree with maese Oggil. I do not like a bit this place"
Chip~ |
Chip follows Nemrok's advice and surveys the ground.
Survival (Tracking): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
He doesn't do it very well...
Zipper, defend me.
GM Lamplighter |
Go ahead and move yourself into the room...
As Oggil approaches the throne, he sees a skeleton sitting on it, slumped forward slightly and covered with cobwebs. It wears black chainmail and a dull iron crown upon its head, and appears to be held together and upright with dried vines. The pile of bones is thickest around the throne, and Oggil notices that many of the ones on top appear to be larger than humanoid, with many deep bite marks in them.
Through the open iron gate to the west, you can hear a low moaning sound, accompanied by some gruff growls.
Ledt |
Ledt gets increasingly uncomfortable and approaches the corridor to see if something is coming also from that side.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
He then readies himself pointing towards the west grate with one finger.
Oggil Redhand |
Oggil stops looking at the figure on the throne.
"Can anyone see if that thing on the throne has magic on it?"
He steps away from the body and peers down towards where the sound came from.
Lasaraleen |
Seeing Nemrok cast, Lasaraleen will just move up and have blade ready.
Do you think there are more than one of the dreadful creatures lurky about? Assuming it is a troll, but maybe it has...friends?
Oggil Redhand |
"Surely the plants would have told us if there were more than one troll." notes Oggil.
"Though how long it has been here.." he kicks at the bones "is a bit of a mystery."
Oggil Redhand |
"Bahh. Trolls must have laired here before the plant people came."
He then glances down at the bones.
"Troll bones?"
He picks one up to examine it.
"Why would so many troll bones be in a troll lair? Trolls would normally have people bones or orc bones or... Do trolls eat each other? I'd have thought that was a bit low even for trolls."
He advances to the door and peeks through it.
Ledt |
Relieved whatever the danger it is not coming, Ledt closes by the throne "Trolls... weird they took the mansion, isn't it? Wouldn't they look for a larger place?" he then starts to examine the throne trying to move it, take away the bones and thoroughly examining it "Thrones are known to often hide droll hints. At least in novels" the halfling smiles.

Drixel Von Hielsen |
Drixel pulls a different wand from her haversack. Activating its magic she shrinks to a smaller version of herself. Reduce Person
"Perhaps the trolls came here and have been eaten by something worse. I should think that scouting the western passage beyond that gate is warranted. Is anyone adept at such stealth?"
Oggil Redhand |
Oggil swallows a laugh
"Worse than a Troll? The only thing I can think of that could eat a troll would be a dragon. And I hear they have better taste."
Chip~ |
One thing I've learned about scouting... going alone and being quiet is often more dangerous than going in a group loud and proud. Unless we have a volunteer, I say we go together.
Oggil Redhand |
Oggil nods.
"Quiet as the mouse is, the dragon will still sniff it out."
GM Lamplighter |
Oggil sees down the hallway with his darkvision, and sees another room with a large stone slab in the middle of the room, covered with blood. Hanging above it upside down and in chains is a live troll, bleeding profusely and missing an arm. The troll swings slowly as it feebly struggles against its bonds.
Oggil Redhand |
"As darkness in the middle of the day, that is not something you see often.." mutters Oggil, relating the scene with the upside down troll.
"Either yonder troll has unusual passtimes... or there is something worse than a troll down there. Let us proceed with caution."
Thankful for the mage armour upon him Oggil waits to allow those who might wish to prepare themselves for battle to do so... and then cautiously slips down the hallway.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Chip~ |
Chip sighs. What did I just say about going alone?
Be careful Oggil. I can't come with you as I would bring light into the situation. Chip stand there with his Wayfinder on his hip.
Oggil Redhand |
Oggil isn't really intending to go alone, just slightly ahead of the rest of the group - maybe ten feet.
Drixel Von Hielsen |
"Either yonder troll has unusual passtimes... or there is something worse than a troll down there. Let us proceed with caution."
Drixel stands there, in shock, looking at the dwarf ramble, then looks to the others. "Did the dwarf not just laugh at my suggestion that the trolls may be the victims here?"
She places her hands on her hips and taps her foot a moment, then speaks, "Perhaps the turtle who keeps his head up his shell won't see the weasel who lies in wait!" She giggles at herself.
After composing herself, she steps up next to Chip and looks down the hallway, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever is down there.
Oggil Redhand |
"The dwarf did." acknowledges the dwarf.
"The path to learning is full of wrong turns and missteps. But only by making them and acknowledging each in turn as a mistake, can one truly learn."
He thinks about the turtle for a moment or two, before replying.
"It is a rare weasel that will bother a full grown turtle."
With a gesture to the troll he adds "It would seem in this case the weasel that bothered that turtle is especially vicious."
Lasaraleen |
Yep, good stuff Oggil!
Lasaraleen will move up closer to the dwarf.
Well, whatever can hog-tie a troll is not going to be fun to deal with...if we get on its bad side. I sure hope the weasel has a good side.
Oggil Redhand |
"Well.. " he reports back.. "Those wounds are fresh."
Oggil slowly advances up to the next set of doors, trying to get a glimpse of what is torturing the troll.
Ledt |
Ledt observes the troll from distance "What if the troll is not really a troll? He behaves weirdly for one of those stupid giants"
Chip~ |
Chip would like to do a Knowledge (Local) on knowing about trolls.
Knowledge (Local) to know about trolls: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Oggil Redhand |
"Can you see if there is magic on it? Could it be as the Cuckoo - designed to make us see it as harmless? But who would think a troll harmless?"
As the others prepare he adds
"While the mouse will never lie down with the cat, when faced with a snake, the mouse would better off not provoking the cat. The enemy of our enemy may yet prove to be an ally - at least in the short term."
He peers into the room looking for signs of giants, dragons.. or snakes.
You others might want to move on the map too, Oggil is a long way ahead on the map now.
Nemrok Blacktusk |
Nemrok moves to follow Oggil, trying like Chip to remember some useful piece of information about Trolls.

Lasaraleen |
Lasaraleen follows cautiously as well.
Does anyone speak troll? I mean, if it eventually gains the ability to speak. Something is causing those dreadful wounds...and that worries me.
GM Lamplighter |
Oggil Redhand |
From the door Oggil looks into the room. If he can see naught but the captive troll he will call out in Taldane.
"Hello there! How did you come to such a plight?"
He will try again in dwarven and then Tien why not? if there is no response to the first.
GM Lamplighter |
Oggil - Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
As Oggil moves forward, he spots two feral humanoid creatures crouching in the corners of the room. Both are covered in fresh blood, and one of them chews on a piece of arm that undoubtedly was recently attached to the troll hanging from the ceiling. They both snarl and leap to attack!

Surprise Round
The blue creature leaps forward towards Oggil, pushing through the metal gate which swings aside.
Suddenly, from one of the narrow side passages, an arrow flies at Nemrok! arrow, flatfooted, cover: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 10 - 4 = 10 hit!damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Nemrok is unable to see who fired the arrow, although it clearly came from the tunnel directly north of him.
Oggil, you are up in the surprise round!
Oggil Redhand |
Oggil, ready for trouble simply smashes the figure in front of him.

Oggil moves up, trying to stay clear of the troll. He launches another punch at the creature in blue trousers.

"You eat trolls?" he stammers in amazement.
The movement however has put off his aim.

Drixel Von Hielsen |
Drixel steps forward keeping Nemrok between her and the monster. She then summons her arcane power to produce a giant, flaming ball that rools across the chamber floor and engulfs the monster in the blue pants.

Lasaraleen |
Lasaraleen calls out as she moves up to get a better look into the room and offer assistance.
Great job Oggil. What are you chasing now?
She stops short of entering the room, not sure if the upside-down troll can reach (or if it still has 2 arms).
Figuring the ball of flame and dwarf have the other creature handled, she readies to attack any foe moving into her reach.
CI scimitar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 for dmg: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Ledt |
Alarmed by the sounds of combat, Ledt moves towards the fray and casts grease below the feet of the blue creature.

Round 1
GM oopsie - had reversed the actions and the colors of the two creatures. Fixed now.
Lasaraleen readies.
Drixl summons a flaming sphere, which burns the creature in the blue pants into ash in a few seconds. Ref DC 20: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Chip and Zipper advance into the room, eyeing the troll warily.
Another arrow comes flying out of the northern passage at Nemrok, who is still unable to see his attacker!arrow, flatfooted, cover: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 12 - 4 = 18 - hit! damage: 1d6 + 4 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (5, 5, 4) = 20 With a groan, Nemrok sinks to the stone floor, unconscious and bleeding from an arrow to the chest.
Everyone else can re-declare actions since things have changed significantly.
Oggil Redhand |
Oggil, seeing no immediate threat and hearing Nenrok hit the floor, steps back and drags him clear of the northern tunnel.
How big are the tunnels? Could a person fit down them?
Lasaraleen |
Lasaraleen, seeing the other foe burnt, will immediately administer healing to the fallen Nemrok. She switches her scimitar to her off hand as she kneels to call out a spontaneous healing spell.
Good Sarenrae, stop the loss of life and restore the fallen!"
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Thanks Oggil, I have got him. Find that shooter!
Oggil Redhand |
Need to understand how big those tunnels are before making any decision about an action. The one the other side of the troll looks a little larger on the map.
