Tomren gasps.
"The map!"
He casts a spell and darts into the room with extraordinary speed.
Casting Expeditious Retreat.

GM Merisial the risen |

Iago having slid across the pool then falls as he tries to make his way back to the gnoll. As Iago gets up with all the grace of Bambi on ice the gnoll barks in laughter. " You will make a great clown slave "
Tomren darts into the room as some of the ribbons on the map catch alight and begin to spread the fire over the entire map

"I get to you later shorty" Chau snarls at Bravo
the red dot is the ball of flame. Borrowed bravos arrow to indicate Chaus movement. Due to Chaus position putting out the fire and saving the map will provoke an aoo from Chau. If you don't put out the fire this round it will be burnt to a crisp

With a shrug, Numair directs his sphere to target the Gnoll again...

...then follows that up with a Force missile chaser.
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) + 3 = 10 Force damage.

I have nothing to estinguish the flames ! says Galant seeing the precious maps in flames.

Tomren darts past the flind, attempting to dodge it on the way.
Acrobatics to tumble: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
He then tries to put out the fire. Dunno if there's a roll to make.

GM Merisial the risen |

reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Again Chau dodges the ball - but not the force missile chaser as three flaming bolts slam into him with force not flame damage just Numair seems a fire flavoured sorceror so his magic missiles appear flamey.
Galants efforts are easily dodged. Tomren gracefully darts into position but can do nothing to prevent the flind bar whirling in his direction
flindbar attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17

Yay! This may be the first time Bravo has hit anything with his glaive since it became masterwork. It's wonderful when the rolls are higher than 7.

He takes a 5' step back and slashes at the gnoll
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

GM Merisial the risen |

Bravos finely balanced Glaive catches Chau in the thigh. She winces in pain but easily deflects Riceak's Glaive with her shield.
"I have beaten lots of humans. I will not be beaten by a tiny gnome" Chau snarls at Bravo

I returned Bravo to his original positioning before starting his turn. A 23 does not hit him currently as per his stat line. Either way, where he's stepping it doesn't matter that much anyway as he could five foot step to the same place from either spot.
"I ain't getting out of the way of nothing."
Non Action

What a most peculiar weapon, it hurts. states the cleric. Gathering his companions together he calls upon the blessings of his goddess and channels to heal2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7

![]() |

No worries at all! :)
"Shame. She's a tough warrior too, but I'm not sure if the Society is accepting gnolls right now." At least there's not a boon. ;)

![]() |

Tomren takes a look at the partially scorched map.
"I hope this is salvageable...

![]() |

This is probably why we don't use magical fire to catch things on fire that we might need states the cleric.

GM Merisial the risen |

Tomren tries to recall what was on the map before it caught fire and piece together what the map could tell him about Muhlia Al Jakri's scrying network. It seems to be focused on noble houses but there are a few points of local interest. and the very nature of the map piques Tomren's interest in geography
As Tomren was the most interested in the map I will give him opportunity to roll on the three knowledge skills to learn what he can from the map. The dc of the check is up to the high tier option. Unfortunately the damage means the option of carefully rolling it up without dislodging pins and ribbons from the map is gone
Chau had some magic items
She also had a bottle of liquid ice but as that doesn't make it to the chronicle sheet so its obviously from a dodgy batch.
The other gnoll
In the far end of the room is a chair with manacles on it. A broken glass fronted cabinet with vials of blood in it. A bookcase, a desk and a singed looking bed

![]() |

Maybe there is a secret door or passage way here. p remarks the cleric.
How is ewveryone doing in hps?

![]() |

Iago looks on the wizard's efforts to piece together the map and wishes he had spent some time paying attention to what was going on in Kreighton Shane's classes

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Tomren studies the map before starting to catalogue the gnolls' gear.
Item identification:
Heavy Wooden Shield: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
Wand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Cloak: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Potion bottle: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Wand: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Greasy Braid: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
"The cloak's function escapes me, but the other items are as follows..." Check the other spoilers.

![]() |

"I could use that Bear wand." If others don't mind, the Aspect of the Bear wand sounds great for Bravo. Might buy that afterwards honestly.

GM Merisial the risen |

Numair restores the original paper of the map including some of the pin holes. This helps Tomren slightly but restoring it properly would require make whole. And the number of discarded pins and ribbons still litter the floor
Tomren studies the map carefully and realises there was a concentration of pins around the arcanarium and Forae Logos. It appears Muhlia is spying on lots of areas in Absalom not just the noble houses. This will be a most useful piece of information
A detect magic shows a moderate source of divination magic beyond the north wall but where the secret door might be and how to activate it you have yet to discover
(Chair, bookcase, cabinet , desk, bed)

GM Merisial the risen |

What else does Tomren know about this moderate divination aura spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 sadly not a lot
Numair finds a slim volume entitled slave masters mirror as he tries to take it a catch clicks and the book case and wall begin to turn. The bookcase and wall spin around a central pole hiden from view to form the secret door. In the room beyond is a large mio with a curtain draped over it

![]() |

"Nice job, Numair." Bravo heads into the room. "Hrm, you think they use it for the Silver Mirror Broadcast?"
Anything else in the room?
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

![]() |

Galant seems absent for a moment before turning to his comrades.
I think it's the mirror we are looking for. Lets take it and get out of here with all the slaves. he takes out from his bag a napkind with holes in But first lets let a message for these slavers!
He begins to apply paint of it to let a written message Liberty!.

![]() |

Assuming the the divination aura was the mirror:
"The mirror's magical, alright, but I don't know how it functions. Let's take it with us anyway."

![]() |

Bravo sets his glaive on his shoulder, ready to head back to kick some gnoll butt, if required.

![]() |

Iago asks, his voice heavy with good natured sarcasm: "Does the mirror shut off if we break it?"

![]() |

Tomren gives a shocked gasp.
"We shall do no such thing! Even if we weren't specifically tasked with retrieving it, we should bring back for study!"
Sense Motive is for chumps :P
@Riceak: 3 HP from full.

GM Merisial the risen |

As the party begins wrapping the mirror for transport there is an first excited then rapidly receding barking from the corridor to the room outside. "That was Hargur" Espanas chuckles "He was yapping about showing the dog killers who's really in charge - Then he saw you handiwork and legged it" You wrap the mirror up and take the rest of Muhlias notes and blood samples and head out.
The Djinn bows to you and says "I will await my mastes summons." and disappears. Tomren thinks he may have plane shifted back to the plane of air. You pick up the remaining slaves and find a courtyard deserted of gnolls and hyenas. The journey back to Absalom via Okeno is uneventful. Ambrus grills you on how the chest perfomed. Lady Darchana on what you learned of Muhlia and the mirror.
It tuns out that The mirror functions as a crystal ball. In addition, a creature who looks into the mirror and sees its own reflection is targeted by a bestow curse effect (DC 16 Will negates), imposing a –4 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Wearing a mask, veil, or exceptional disguise negates the effect.
Congratulations you have completed the adventure in the most prestigious manner
