Brother Tophor
|
@Tophor you would need someone skilled in knowledge(engineering) to tell you that about the door.
The OOC question was just about the door’s general appearance, whether the bowing seemed part of the design of the door, or if it looked dented or damaged. The perception check was to listen for anything opposite the door. Did Tophor hear anything? P:21
Xien
|
And if Tophor does not hear anything/find any trap, can we assume we open the door and progress to the next room please?
I know stone crafting in ancient dwarven dens is fascinating but we want to play! :D
Move on people!
Brother Tophor
|
You’re both, of course, welcome to go ahead – it looks like Xien already is. I’m just playing it cautious, as always. If you’d rather rush ahead, I can take a support position in the back of the group.
GM Aerondor
|
Xien opens the door.
It becomes evident that the reason the door was bowed forward was a mass load of stones behind it. Stones that come pouring down over the Nagaji.
Damage: Reflex DC16 for half: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7
As the dust clears you can see into a larger room with a lot of rubble. Climbing through the room may be regarded as dangerous.
Xien
|
Ref: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Xien jumps back as the rubble starts crumbling over his head.
He stands up as proudly as he can and says "Well, this route seems dangerously blocked. Perhaps we can take the corridor route?"
GM Aerondor

To search the room would mean going into it, which looks dangerous but doable.

"I cannot see anything else than rocks from here... it seems dangerous but doable. I can go there if you want me, but I see a couple of doors so we can perhaps reach from the corridor" says Xien.
If the party wishes to go in, the loyal and dumb nagaji just tries to climb or do acrobatics through the rocks without much regard for his own safety, whatever is needed.

Tophor, my intent wasn't to say that you were acting overly-cautious. I think caution is called for here. My intent was to suggest we could post proactively, giving Aerondor the intent behind our actions and suggested followup actions so our beloved DM can push things forward if we're in a situation where it's appropriate .. as opposed to waiting on specific instructions and/or unique die rolls from us each time.
I think Tophor or Jal leading off is the way to go here. And with Tophor's Perception, he's a good candidate. Jal will provide the illumination so you can do so stealthily. :)
Jal puts a hand in front of Xien, forestalling him as he searches the ground in front of the door as well as the room beyond.
Sharrowsmith didn't go this way, correct? Now that the door is open, any tracks in this next room? Or any sign of traps, threats, or oddities?
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Survival, track: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
"You see anything?" he mutters to Tophor as he holds up his Wayfinder to shed some light.
if nothing is perceived, Jal motions to suggest Tophor move quietly up one side of the new room while Jal goes up the other, holding his Wayfinder to light their way.

Assuming you are taking the corridor here
As Tophor steps out of the door and into the corridor, there is a flurry of crossbow bolts down the long hallway toward him.

The range of protection from evil is touch, so I've moved Shungur into the doorway next to Tophor.
Brother Tophor
|
Tophor nods at Shungur’s suggestion. “We were instructed to avoid stirring up the kobolds... Perhaps if I go back through the collapsed section? You can cover me down the hall, or through that portcullis, as I advance.”
If that works for everyone, I'll sneak to the red crosshairs on the map, bow and blunt arrows at the ready.

Call it bravery, or just silliness, Xien walks taking the spot of Tophor and calling the kobolds to appease, he effectively distracts them.
"Kobolds, you are nagaji friends. We are not here to fight with you. Appease and talk with us"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Not utterly stupid, Xien places his shield high, protecting himself against the arrow attacks.

Jal shrugs and follows Tophor. ”I still say this would be a helluva lot simpler if we just remove those two pests.”Until we have to explain to the VC why the kobold raids begain again in earnest.”

Xien looks at Shungur and shrugs "They talk about some big people. Perhaps some giants have attacked their lair and they blame us for that?"
The nagaji turns to the kobolds and says in draconic "What big ones you say?" he shows his trident "I will tear them off with this to demonstrate kobold cousins we just want to investigate the ruins and recover the old ugly humanoid known as Sharrowsmith"
"We can share some food afterwards" the nagaji holds still up his shield.

Tophor finds it hard to walk quietly over the stones, although somehow Jal manages to do just that.

”So what’s the play, here?” he mutters. ”Sounds like the thunder lizard is trying to talk to them.”
Step in front of Tophor, quick-draw shield, and go full-defensive. If combat continues, Tophor should be able to 5’ step and flurry every round, with Jal stepping back into defensive position each round.

Oh, is that throughout the rooms? I thought it was just in the rubble squares.
If 5' steps are possible, then Jal will act as he did. If it's reduced movement, he'll move adjacent to Tophor and do the same actions without restricting Tophor's ability to flurry on them unhindered.
GM Aerondor
|
The movement hazard is just squares with rubble in them.
Tophor fires off a flurry of arrows, one hits as you hear a yelp of pain, but only the one. Jal then steps in front of him.
Two crossbows fire off in return, they don't seem to worry about Jal as he is not an obvious threat.

Selena follows. One part of her wants to unleash a sweeping channel at all enemies around her, but the darkness and confusing nature of the discussion with these kobolds discourages her from unleashing such an attack...yet.
Jal Vaduva

Jal gives the bolt sticking out of Tophor’s body a critical look. ”Tophor! Xien! How long do we let them pin cushion us before we switch tactics?!”
”Watch my back,” he concludes as he rushes forward, keeping his shield forward and blocking the little buggers’ firing lane.
Move forward to the door (map updated), stay full defensive for now.
GM Aerondor

Tophor, resembling a bit of a pin cushion ducks back behind a wall.
Xien burbles something that the rest of the group can't understand, but causes a bit of excitement from the kobolds.
The rest of the group takes various routes to advance.
With Xien charging down the corridor, two more crossbow bolts are directed at him.

Ouch, another bolt straight through the armour. These kobolds know what they are doing.
When Jal emerges at the doorway, another kobold sqwarks in dismay, discharges his crossbow and scampers to the darkness out of sight of the doorway.

GM Aerondor

Selena and Shungur combine their healing, but it must be something about the fell history of the place, as Tophors wounds only close a little.
Xien, realizing the portcullis might prove a bit of an obstacle tries to head through the other way to join Jal who delivers a solid whack with his sap to the kobold, but doesn't knock it out. Tophor also manages to lodge an arrow in it, but while the shot was good, it was not enough to take out the beast.
Crit didn't confirm
Tophor also notes that the passageway that Xien had walked down seems to have some type of pressure plates in it.
Xien however is stymied by the rusted iron door. He belts it as hard as he can, but doesn't make an impression on it. You can try a strength check if you would prefer to try and burst the door open rather than attacking it.
Two kobolds that were hiding in the back of the room snap off shots at Jal as he comes though the doorway and then retreat through a hole in the wall. The pathfinder group note there are a number of small sized holes that seem to be well positioned to allow kobolds movement, but hinder larger creatures.
attack: 2d20 ⇒ (15, 3) = 18
One of the bolts hits him.
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The kobold in black retreats from the fearsome form of Jal through the same hole.
Note, only Jal is aware of the movement of the kobods.
Jal has a moment to look around the room, and note the face of a dragon carved in stone that looks down the passageway. It almost screams 'trap' at him.
