Ali reels at the amount of evil in the room, while the professor lives up to his name.
Everything in the room is undead. Mostly the smaller creatures are ghouls, but a couple appear to be Festrogs. The thing in the middle he has never heard of before, but it seems to be sometype of undead focus. He guesses it is akin to a queen bee - unable to move but central to the long-term 'live' of the colony of undead.
Professor Dario Westone
|
The Professor watches the odd undead feast with a mixture of horror and fascination. "It's some sort of hive collective. Like a colony of bees, but undead. Those feeding on it are ghouls and festrogs. Both of them carry disease and the ghouls can even paralyze you. Fascinating. The thing in the middle seems to be controlling them like a hive queen would, though I doubt it can move." Dario continues to watch the horrifying scene.
Do they notice us?
Aria Tamber
|
"If its unable to move, wouldn't it be best to handle it last, I don't fancy our chances at those workers just letting us walk into the middle of them unharmed, do you?"
Sumil
|
"Whatever we do, it should be soon, if they don't see us they are likely to in a moment. I'm not thrilled about fighting them, but we need to go deeper if we're to complete our mission."
GM Aerondor
|
The undead seem too busy feeding to have noticed you. Yet. Surely it is only a matter of time.
Professor Dario Westone
|
"If we attack the hive center, surely they will all come after us. It might happen anyway. Give them enough time and I'm sure of it. What we should do is to concentrate our first attacks on one or two. If we can kill them outright before the others have time to react, then it will help. And I think staying away from the hive center is prudent for now. Once we destroy all the ghouls and festrogs, then we can see how to deal with it."
The Professor draws a shortbow, putting his rapier away for now.
We should all enter the room, but stay as far away as possible. Just entering the room though, might make them take notice.
Ali Salujah

Ali shrugs Got it, take down the children. Follow me into the breach! , and declares smite evil on one of the ghouls and charges across the room at him.

Did you add double smite damage as they are undead? I think you may have undercooked your attack by 2 points!
Ali charges in and knocks one of the ghouls flying!
In their feeding frenzy, the rest of the undead are slow to react to the Paladin.

That is right, you have two and a half rounds of actions, given you are pre buffed, the only confusion is likely to be if you target something that has already been killed. To help with that, I'll give you a break and let you know they all have ac14, ghouls have 13hp and the Festrogs 9hp

Aria and Chak Chak follow-up the initial assault but with slightly less effect.
I moved you each round opposite sides, so you could get in an attack without suffering an AOO yourself. Given the distance, you each spent the surprise and first turn moving, and I used your round two attacks which were better anyway.

The huge pulsating blobby thing is still there, in the middle of the room. Six bodies of formally undead creatures lie around it, their blood slowly draining toward the centre of the room and back into the blob.
- recap of description
This cathedral-like hall has a vaulted ceiling supported by eight square pillars. Dominating the middle of the hall is a huge mound of undulating gray-green flesh covered with weeping scarlet boils. The entire mass stinks of a weeks-old corpse.
There is a collapsed passage in the middle of the western wall. A single door is also set towards the northern end. Between them there is a series of scratched symbols.
Professor Dario Westone
|
Dario makes some notations in his journal after retrieving his shortbow. He also pulls out a flask of alchemist's fire, thinking this could help later. He waves his hand dismissing the scratched symbols. "Sorry, etymology is Professor Jonas' area of expertise. I never had too much use for it."
GM Aerondor

The big hunk of meat proves quite resilient to damage. After a minute of hacking, you all notice that not only is it hard to hurt, but it seems to also regrow at an unnatural rate - maybe explaining how hungry undead such as ghouls and festrogs can survive here...
Ali guesses it would take hours of hacking to make a substantial dent in it...

Sumil opens the door and looks within.
This large chamber has a relatively low ceiling. The far southwest wall is set at an angle, and against the center of the wall sits a heap of bones and skulls resembling a large makeshift throne. To the left of the throne sits an oak and brass sea chest, carved with images of sea serpents chasing their own tails.
Three more of the horrible undead creatures are in the room. One reclines on the throne, while the other two stand to each side.
The one on the throne raises his hand in greeting, while the two slavering creatures at the foot of the throne look on, their mouths watering at the sight of such a lot of fresh food.
"Approach, and introduce yourselves" suggests the creature on the throne.
Professor Dario Westone
|
Dario enters the room, his eyes going wide at the undead lounging in the chair. "Well, this is interesting." He bows his head slightly. "Professor Dario Westone. And who might you be? Lord of the Hall of the Flesh Eaters?"

"Now, now!" the creature on the throne chides Ali.
"What may be wrong in the streets of Absalom is not necessarily wrong here. This is my land, and as such you are subject to my authority."
He looks hard at the group.
"Why have you come to my realm and slaughtered my servants?"
His gaze turns to Sumil.
"Many treasure hunters come here, but few leave. I may let some of you leave in search of your treasure. Perhaps. Leave one of your number to replace those of my people that you have slain, and I will allow you to pass undisturbed."
Ali Salujah
|
Ali swallows hard , hating that he has to treat this creature with a modicum of respect.
We were sent here, to Old Sevenfingers Tomb as it is known, to investigate this ruin and take notes of it for historical documentation purposes and to retrieve the Orb of Stars. We are also to make it safe for future expeditions from our society. Is that something we can work out? You seem reasonable, but I could see you not taking too kindly that I killed your servants - but you see I am a servant of Shelyn and it is in her vision of beauty that undead be seen as abominations against nature. I did what any Paladin would do.
