The pillar door opens like the others. Within in a small room.
The interior wall of the pillar has a keypad, numbered
0 through 9, next to a panel with an imprint of a fivefingered
hand with fingers splayed
Professor Dario Westone
|
"Dolres, I believe we have found your numbers." Dario inputs the sequence and then borrows the skeleton hand to place on the imprint.
Dolres
|
Dolres joins the professor
"Wait lets all stay together before you start pushing buttons."
I think he is going to have to wait for me to give him the numbers unless he memorized them
Kenji Nishida
|
Kenji is curious and will enter to watch what goes on.
Professor Dario Westone
|
Dario pauses in his attempt as Dolres and the others position themselves and he can get the number sequence from the dwarf. A thought does occur to him.
"Meleren, we know you were studying at the Clockwork Cathedral for a time. I too was expelled from my University for thing they did not agree with. But do you know anything about these devices and what they may do?"
GM Aerondor
|
Meleren notes "They are all some type of technology - probably control systems."
Once you are in and press the button,
With a lurch, this circular chamber begins to rise, but it jolts
to a halt after a dozen seconds or so. A flashing red light
appears next to the door-opening panel, accompanied by a
faint buzzing sound.
A voiced speaks, first in goblin (if you understand goblin) and then in common.
“Negligible atmosphere detected. Do you wish to proceed? Push
open button twice for yes.”
"That means we may not be able to breathe" says Meleren.
Dario, can you do another diplomacy check for Meleren please.
Professor Dario Westone
|
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
"I don't like the sound of that. Where do you think it's going? Up to the top of the tower?"
Is the door closed or can we get out?
Saphera Moonglade
|
Is the entire group on the lift?
Didn’t the other thing says something about the item required to realign the door being used, in another room, to access atmospheric controls?
Saphera Moonglade
|
If we press it twice i think we continue up. If we press it once, it may let us out.
Professor Dario Westone
|
"Well, there only one way to find out." Dario glances at the others for a second. Then he presses the button only once.
GM Aerondor
|
buzz, whirr, "bing"
The floor drops away, but no suddenly and the group gracefully descends.
"Press button to exit"
The same button as above lights up.
Dolres
|
"Well I guess we know how it works now. We just have to fix something so we can breath. How about that last room we haven't checked yet?"
Saphera Moonglade
|
I believe we have checked all the rooms. That was the last one.
Dolres
|
"Well we can carefully search all the rooms again or open the door in the place where it is hard to breath. What do you want to do?"
Saphera Moonglade
|
I'm thinking we will probably need to go up there and either figure out how to fix it so we can breathe, or find the thing that realigns the door. Either way we will probably have to continue up. I am willing to go but, I think there should be at least two in case something goes wrong. We could also bring the skeleton hand in case we need it to operate the elevator or open another cabinet.
Kenji Nishida
|
"I'll go up... Do you think it's wise to split the party?"
Professor Dario Westone
|
"Without access to whatever controls the weather, I doubt that's a wise idea." Dario returns to the table. He looks for anything round on the controls which can move or anywhere which might fit one of the devices he's seen.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
"It said a 'Carousel' must be realigned. That's usually something round. Look around. Or for something to engage these items." He holds up the devices Saphera found.
Dolres
|
Dolres will begin carefully looking around each room we have explored.
She will take 20 since I don't believe we have a time limit for this. This should give her a 24
Saphera Moonglade
|
Saphera helps to search all the areas that have been previously explored.
Saphera will also take 20 for a total of 28.
GM Aerondor
|
The party searches and searches but turns up nothing extra.
In the illusion above the counter, there is a round ring of rooms that appears around the picture of the room you are in.
Saphera Moonglade
|
Saphera examines the round object in the image. I’m pretty sure this has something to do with the door closing. We still need the object that will activate this device. The voice in the lift is stating the atmosphere above us is nonexistent. If we get up there and cannot get out, entering that room could prove to be a fatal mistake. Assuming the lift is fully operational, we should be able to exit the area if we need to. So I’m thinking a couple of us could go up and investigate the area, while holding our breath, to see if we can find the object we need. If that doesn’t pan out, then maybe we can find some way to fix the atmosphere. I agree, splitting the group up is a bad idea, but all of us going up there could be equally risky. On the other hand, there could be combatants up there. Creatures, like the ones we just fought, could possibly exist in an environment without air. Fighting while holding our breath sounds a little scary to me, but I don’t think we have much choice here. I'm willing to go and inspect what’s up there. By the sound of it, so is-- Saphera pauses a moment to consider what she is about to say. --Kenji.
Is anyone else willing to go?
Dolres
|
"I will go up with you. I think you may need some help if something goes wrong. Anyone else?"
Professor Dario Westone
|
Dario tries to interact with the ring of rooms both with his hands, the glove, and the devices. "Meleren, do you have any idea how this might work?"
The half-elf shake his head. "I don't know. Sounds very risky to me to go up there. I don't know if I should go with you or not. I might be the best chance at breaking the controls to get you back down."
GM Aerondor
|
Meleren shakes his head. "It would be interesting to see.. once you can breathe. "
Both he and Shechera look surprised at the willingness of the volunteers to brave the room without air.
"You'd do that to help us get out?"
Shechera doesn't actually say thanks, but you can see she is pretty impressed.
Saphera Moonglade
|
Saphera enters the lift and waits for Dolres and Kenji before proceeding.
Kenji Nishida
|
Kenji enters the lift and waits for it to be activated.
Saphera Moonglade
|
Saphera pokes her head out the door and checks with the professor one last time. Are you sure you want to stay down here Professor? With the exception of our two new friends, you will be the only one in the group staying back.
Saphera holds the door open, giving the Professor an opertunity to come along if he changes his mind.
Professor Dario Westone
|
Dario shakes his head and quickly joins the others. He looks back to the two bandits. "Are you coming or not?"
Not a TPK unless everyone comes!
Saphera Moonglade
|
Saphera waits just long enough for the two new arrivals to decide if they wish to stay or go. Once they make their decision, Saphera pushes the button to proceed up. If the lift flashes the warning again, Saphera will press the button twice, hoping the lift will continue. Once reaching the desired location, Saphera takes a deep breath just before the door opens.
Kenji Nishida
|
Following suit, Kenji takes a deep breath just before the door opens as well.

A series of glassy panels form a semicircular array along
the southern walls of this circular room. Some of the panels
are lit but blank, while others flicker with a jarring, blackand-
white dotted pattern. Many are cracked or simply dark.
A throne-like chair sits before a mechanical table in the
center of the room. A skeleton slumps in the chair, one
bony hand grasping a large lever. Its other hand, wearing a
strange, silvery glove, rests upon a glowing plate.
The air rushes out of the "pillar" room with a pop, quickly decompressing and sending all sorts of small objects flying.
EVeryone takes 1d6 ⇒ 4 damage.
There is no air to breathe.
Rounds without air: 1
Saphera Moonglade

Saphera begins searching for a way to correct the air problem.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Kenji Nishida
|
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Kenji looks around for a method to restore air to the chamber.
Professor Dario Westone
|
Dario struggles to hold his breath in the room and he rushes over to where the skeleton is sitting. He looks at the lever and then the gloved hand. He pressed the glove back onto the plate and waits a split second. If there's no further response, he pulls the lever while maintaining his hand on the glove.
GM Aerondor

There are various controls, buttons, levers, knobs etc on the desk near the goblin skeleton. And the skeleton has a gauntlet on too.
Rounds without air: 2
Saphera Moonglade
|
Saphera examines the desk with the controls. She checks to see if any of the buttons, levers, or knobs has any markings indicating what they do.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Dolres
|
Dolres moves over to the controls, looking for somewhere to use the device we found or a way to adjust the controls.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Zuriel Heihachi
|
Zuriel walks over to the skeleton, gently moves its hand off the lever, and pulls the lever.
GM Aerondor

The glove on the goblin skeleton is similar, but different to those found futher down.
There is a variety of writing on the control panel. Who can read goblin?
