Jal's quiet observation of the land gliding by is interrupted by the twin thumps of scaly bodies on the deck.

Fire springs from the hands of Mordack, turning the snake on the deck into tonight's dinner. Between the effects of Varus's bomb and the burning hands, the Abacus is maybe not looking quite so happy.
The drake rears back, ignoring Jal and his puny blade. Instead it spits out a huge glob of acid, landing on Varus and Brother Tophor. the acid burns and sticks them to the deck...

Between bomb, sword and magical missiles the already wounded river drake never has a chance. With a final howl of pain it is knocked backwards into the river.
It's body floats for a moment or two, blood pouring from the massive gash left by Jal's blade, and then slowly sinks below the rivers surface...
The injured pathfinders look at each other, while the crew looks to fix some of the acid and fire damage all over the ship.
Temel emerges from his hiding spot in the cabin.
"The Pathfinder Society continues to amaze me, and it seems to
me increasingly prudent to enter into a business arrangement
that would certainly be to our mutual benefit—particularly for
those with an eye for spotting profit. Let me make my case
simply: my trade network is growing and already blankets
the Inner Sea like no other, and the dwarves cannot hope
to compete with the prices I offer. Let us not forget that
the Pathfinders have had many mutually profitable business
dealings with me in the past.” He seems to be directing his conversation primarily towards Jal.

Depending on when the acid/healing resolved, I'm either at 5 or 7 hp. If it's the former, could you pop one of these scrolls on me, Shungur?

The pathfinder manage to launch a jollyboat and row ashore. There they find a small stash of gold nuggets and some uncut garnets, maybe buried there by the river drake.
Once you return, Temel adds "I see that even as skilled a crew as you can run into problems. Let me offer you a potion cure moderate wounds as a sign of good faith."
Metella watches, and then approaches the group.
“Yes, Temel has his bejeweled fingers in many pies and can
offer cheaper wares, but consider the advantages of a business
relationship with my mercantile concern: our network is
many centuries old, and the quality of our goods is unrivaled.
Furthermore, an arrangement with a firm with such deep
roots in the Five Kings Mountains would reinforce the military
alliance the Society is already negotiating.”
She too offers the Pathfinders a potion. Bears endurance

Just a bit of a rewind, so I can react to stuff … bear with me. :)
Jal cleans his blade, sheathes it, then fusses with the ragged edge of his scorched sleeve and shoulder. He’s in the middle of pulling out his own healing wand when the jarringly-refreshing wave of Valrus’s healing wand soothe his burned skin.
He looks at the tiefling for a few seconds, his eyebrows knitted in a frown, but finally he gives a small, guarded smile. ”Thanks. Right proper of ya.” He claps the tiefling on the shoulder roughly, his features not unfriendly, though a skeptical look lingers, ”Don’t suppose you have something to patch my sleeve, huh?” He finishes with a smirk that doesn’t quite reach his eyes, then he moves off.
I have my own wand if it's needed as we progress, though I certainly appreciate the Healing, Valrus. :)
When Temel approaches, Jal grins at the man and shakes his hand. ”You don’t have to convince me. I know those I answer to would love to sit down and have some discussions about the possibilities of future mutually profitable arrangements with you. When I give my report, I’ll make sure to put in a good word for you. Your help on this venture won’t be forgotten.”
He uses the distraction of the unearthed treasure to slip over towards Metella, listening intently to her pitch, as well. When she finishes, he tries to pitch his voice so Temel doesn’t overhear. ”I was taught that a good businessman doesn’t turn down good opportunities, and he weighs every choice before he makes a decision. I might not have thought your ideas were the best approach for our team on this venture, but they had merit on their own. Those I work for are just as interested in quality goods as they are in extensive trade networks, and if you’re really interested, I’d love to give them a good word about you when I give my report. I’m sure a mutually beneficial arrangement can be found between your outfit and the one I work for.”
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9; sigh … why don’t Slayers have Diplomacy as a class skill?
He holds his hand out for a shake, ”You up for that?” If she takes the hand, he grins widely and nods at her. ”You won’t regret it, Mistress Metella.”
I don't see any reason why bringing both merchants to the Exchange's negotiating table could ever be a bad thing. :D

As the scroll's energy dissipates, Tophor flexes muscles, tests newly-healed skin. Seeing that the others have things well in hand, he does not intrude on the conversations with their sponsors.
Who's taking which potion?
Nodding to Shungur and Valrus, he expresses heartfelt thanks for the healing energies.

![]() |

Valrus says , "I'd recommend Jal take the potion. He seems the most likely to enter melee with any potential foes and either from my bombs or their attacks, he is pretty likely to get hurt."
He turns to Brother Tophor "I'm sorry you happened to be standing next to me when I pissed that drake off. I recalled it could glob acid, and perhaps I should have spread out instead of trying to burn it, and my allies along with it. I'm glad I was standing next to you, able to use this wand I got after encountering a particular angry halfling. When did you decide it was a good idea to start bringing curative magics on your missions?
" Did you need healing Mordack?"

I'm glad I was standing next to you, able to use this wand I got after encountering a particular angry halfling. When did you decide it was a good idea to start bringing curative magics on your missions?
Tophor shrugs at the Tiefling's comments. "I should have been faster. As for the potions and the like, we must always be prepared. I think this if the first time I've actually needed one, while on a mission for the society. These came in handy at the Blakros Museum, in Abadar," Tophor indicates potions of Mage Armor nestled in his bandolier. "That was a terrible night. So much death. The sight of mist still gives me a chill."

Shungur looks at the group. "It seems like many of us attack from afar...besides Jal, I suppose I may be near the front, although I am no fighter. I could take the other potion, or perhaps Brother Tophor."
Dip to Metella: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
"I am no tradesman. But you honor us with your gifts, and I would be happy to suggest that the Pathfinders work with you further." His simple words sound quite sincere.

![]() |

Amauhak watches the discussion with a hint of amusement in his eyes. "The sands of time wait for nobody. We should continue up-river" Both Temel and Metella nod in agreement at the wisdom of the sand dwarf of Osirion.
Did you decide on favouring Temel then?
Also I'm assuming your plan is to go as a group of individuals travelling together. Jal as the bodyguard for Mylitta as the only ones who know each other outside of the trip. Shungur and Tophor as religious pilgrims? I can't recall Mordack and Valrus's cover stories.
Near dusk, the captain of the boat points out a pleasant
country inn up a hill on the north shore of the Glass River,
where a small dock offers a berth for the Abacus. Passad
and the envoys indicate they’ll wait out the night in their
cabins while you execute your mission at the Gray
Revelation Inn. Before leaving the boat, Amauhak strongly
advises the party to "refrain from violence on Razmiri soil
if it can be helped"; Metella and Passad, in rare agreement,
concur.
A stone path leads from the dock about 200 yards
through some light tree cover to the villa.
All appearances suggest a very cozy establishment, and
the inn obviously serves as a way stationfor travelers.
Heading up the path...
A sign above wide wooden gates reads, “Welcome to the Gray
Revelation Inn.” The gate leans open invitingly, and the smell
of fresh flowers wafts on the cool breeze.
It appears the wall of the inn's yard stretches between the inn itself (to the left) and a stables (to the right).

![]() |

Also I'm assuming your plan is to go as a group of individuals travelling together... Shungur and Tophor as religious pilgrims?
That will work. Although, to draw less attention, Tophor will focus more on the abbey's brewery business, sampling the regional libations.

![]() |

Valrus strides into the yard and looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Upon seeing the Inn he awaits his more charming companions heading ahead of him.
It'd be better to assist on the story we're a traveling caravan rather than have people who are not good at lying try their own checks
Once they enter he does as well, stating " I'd like a room for the night, as I've spent enough of them on a boat lately...
I don't think this is a lie.

![]() |

Entering the gate, the pathfinder team comes into a large courtyard.
The profusion of flowers planted around this lovely courtyard
fills the air with an enchanting fragrance. An oaken door to
the north (left) is the obvious entrance to the inn, while south
(right) are the broad doors of a stable. Wooden gates allow egress to
west and east, and a roofed well lies at the east end of the
main court.
A man comes out of the stables signing to you with hand
motions and grimaces. He points to the northern door.
Assuming you enter the inn itslef..
Dark oaken tables, chairs and benches fill this comfortable,
L-shaped common room, and the faint odors of tobacco and
ale permeate the air. Narrow windows with panes of smoked
glass along the north and south walls allow some light into
this welcoming space.
A old matronly woman clad in peasant
clothing and an apron sits at the centermost table of
this room. Her voluminous white hair is piled atop her
head and secured in a conservative bun. She wears a red
scarf about her neck and a wry smile on her face.
She rises when you enter and approaches.
"Good day to you young folk. Good day. Welcome to the Gray Revelation Inn. I am Addas Grymble."
She looks hopeful and asks "Are you looking for lodgings for the night?"
When Valrus answers in the affirmative she looks to the others while asking the Tiefling "And what brings you to fair Razmiran. No, wait, wait..."
She turns from the Pathfinders and raises her voice "Eugenia, Tarsi, come meet our guests."
Two more old ladies shuffle out of the kitchen to greet you.

![]() |

Mylitta inwardly frowns at three people all at once listening to her story. She didn't like how Addas had phrased things.
Putting her misgivings aside, she begins, smiling happily "Greetings, myself and the group behind me have journeyed together to save on costs...I'm visiting my boyfriend, and Jal is protecting me, Brother Tophor is on a trip to sample beer, Valrus is exploring the local fauna and attempting to find the various healing properties of certain plants, while I believe that Mordack and Shungar are on religious duties. We would be ever so grateful if you could house some, if not all of us for the night, for some of us, a little longer"

"Ahh, young love." cackles Addas. It appears it has been a year or thirty since she ever experienced this, if ever.
While complementing Eugenia on how nice she looks, Mordack notices a yellow scarf around her neck. He has seen something like that before somewhere.
"We can certainly house you this night. Come this way, come this way."
Addas hands you over to Tarsi, while she takes the stable-hand, Rosh, firmly back outside again. Eugenia looks like she would like to show off the rooms too, but is directed back into the kitchen by Tarsi.
"Religious pilgrims eh? Come to pay respects to the Living God? We are not religious folk ourselves. Hospitality is our creed, though we honour the Living God as our overlord." gushes Tarsi.
"How many rooms will you be needing?" she asks, giving a pointed look to Mylitta and Jal. "We have a few fine rooms available, but also some single rooms as well. The single rooms are 5sp for a night. Our better rooms can take two or even three.." here she cackles as if at a private joke "and are three gold for the night.
She pauses, taking the group on the rest of a tour. "[b]And these are our best rooms." Silk shees and a thick comforter cover a large bed in the lavish chamber. The room actually has a window (unlike the others) - tall and narrow though it is.
There is also a bathing chamber that she gestures to, just down the hall from the best bedrooms.
